I don't know how I've managed to drive past here for so long without actually knowing what I've been missing out on. At least from my first experience today. The presentation & even the taste of everything was even better then I expected. I try to eat & drink healthy when I can. Which when you do you can actually taste the difference when quality ingredients are used. Even the full feeling afterwards doesn't weigh you down. Instead it energizes you & when my body feels good I'm happier, it shows. As for an example, I'm not a beet fan because of their strong earthy flavor. However I know they are good for you so I'll try adding them into my diet every once in awhile. So I pored myself a shot of beet juice thinking I'd swallow holding my breath. Except I was caught off gard. With the added ingredients the earthy smell wasn't as potent, it was even smooth going down. Plus it didn't have that bitter aftertaste. This is the first time I've ever tasted a beet juice this good I finished the bottle & was still craving more. Being that this was my first visit, I'm definitely intrigued & need to come back to try out more of their menu. Plus just to figure out all my new favorites. Broth is located inside of Alive & Well (which the store: On one end are vitamins and health care items, the other side has some snacks, a small pet food area, some produce and a cooler section with things like milk, cheese, Kim chee and my favorite, fresh coconut water bottled. I never noticed it, but there is a vortex water station as well). Regarding the cafe, Broth: Everyone is always so friendly here at this quaint little shop! They have a little cold case filled with yummy things like vegetarian and shrimp summer rolls, raw tuna sushi, vegetable sushi, wraps, tapioca, sandwiches and some bakery items. The menu isn't super extensive, but they've got some good stuff; some of the things I've tried are - different types of avocado toast - tan tan ramen (pretty good, light sesame flavor, hefty bowl) - congee: the chicken and mushroom is the same except chicken just has chicken in it - lemongrass bahn mi Overall, it's a great place! Stopped in for lunch after flying into Maui as it's nice and close to the airport. Friendly, clean, and quick. We got a smoothie, mushroom congee, and the Mac crack fish bowl. The smoothie was good and enjoyed the congee. I was hoping for tan tan ramen but there was a sign upon arriving that it was not available. I tried the fish bowl with barley. I didn't love the veggies-texture, taste, and sort of looked shriveled and old. The fish was ok and the bowl as a whole all tasted bland. I finally made it in! My last attempt failed due to construction closure of the store. ATMOSPHERE: Broth opened a few years ago inside of the Alive & Well store. Tucked away in the corner, the takeout-only counter also sports a "ramen bar" top but it wasn't operational (yet) according to a posted sign. MENU: Healthy bowls, two styles of ramen, sandwiches, salads, coffees and smoothies. FOOD: Tan Tan Ramen - $15.00 Early iterations of their ramen were totally customizable (flavor/broth/noodle/protein) but now they're pre-selected for you. First off, the broth. Made from chicken, pork bones and ground sesame seeds, it tasted exactly how a tan tan broth should - creamy and with a little thickness. Spice comes from diced chilis. For the noodles I was going to choose buckwheat soba but it comes with wheat noodles which was actually really good. It didn't have a grainy texture like I had imagined nor was it brown in color. It actually tasted like traditional flour noodles but minus the eggy-flavor. Speaking of eggs, the six minute egg was perfectly gooey but wasn't seasoned. The choi sum was too big and crunchy, making it difficult to eat in a ramen. I wasn't a fan of the tough Queen Beet char "sui" as they had a sweet note, I'm guessing from being prepared with beets. More hits than misses - a definite reorder. SERVICE: A friendly guy assisted me. Received a greeting, professional service and was thanked. Really a rarity these days. Total order time took about 10 minutes. OVERALL: Fresh ingredients, fair pricing, good service. That congee is calling my name! read more

I am so happy we went here. My sis and I decided since we haven't been feeling well, we should get some congee. Also, my sis is pescatarian, so she's pretty limited. I am so happy to have looked Broth up before coming to Maui and signed up for their text messages to get $5 off a $25 purchase. We ordered the Matcha Smoothie and Island Greens smoothie. They were both slightly sweet which was perfect for us! We both got the congee which is a Chinese rice porridge, with a mushroom base with mushroom slices, so it's vegan, but I added chicken to mine. It's so flavorful, and the addition of greens gives it more texture and of course, health (hehe). The Fish Banh Mi is flavorful, bread is soft with a good crust. The fish is thick and is the length of the bread which is nice. Everything is packaged up in compostable materials and presented well for take out. I'm very impressed and the prices were very reasonable compared to my horrible and very expensive experience at Fork and Salad. Do yourself a favor and skip that place and go to Broth. Always super delicious and fresh! My go-to options are the Green Bowl or the Taro Bahn Mi. Being vegetarian, I want really good veggies, with amazing flavor. These two dishes always satisfy me. The green bowl is beyond good! Every bite is a different yummy flavor and texture. I get it with the quinoa, but I'm sure it's just as tasty with any other grain. I could eat this bowl e-ver-y-day!!! The Taro Bahn Mi is otherworldly! Again, the perfect balance of flavor and texture. I also hear that the TanTan is beyond good, but I can't stop ordering these to dishes long enough to try one. As soon as the chef brought the dish out my mouth was watering. Portion size the banh mi was smaller than I was accustomed to but it was no deterrent. The pairing of congee and banh mi was fantastic. Super excited to come back and try the rest of the menu. Wait time was average and the seating area was modern. My wife had avocado toast, the slice of bread it was put on was a bit small for the price and the avocado had some gray spots on it, compared to our friend who got another avocado toast and had nice green avocado all over his... They have a nice selection of hand made lemonade which were great. Lots of to go options in the ready made deli counter including a delicious vanilla tapioca pudding. The service was adequate but not overly friendly. The food selection was great and we could easily come back and find many more things we'd want to try. They also have a self-serve touch screen inside to order. The place was clean, organized, and staff was friendly. Everyone was very welcoming! I ordered the Lemon Grass Chicken bowl $16 with brown rice and my husband got the Fish Bahn Mi $12. My lemon grass bowl was packed, filled with vegetables and the chicken itself was nicely cooked and delicious. It came with a citrus parsley pesto that I requested on the side, my only complaint is, I wish it had more pesto flavor only because I love pesto. My bowl had a variety of vegetables such as asparagus, pickled red onions, cauliflower, baby bok choy, lettuce, red cabbage, and kale. I definitely felt healthy after eating and full! My husband ate the Fish Bahn Mi which he enjoyed and is usually not a fish guy, but he ate it all. We will return again to get our healthy food options here. read more

Alive and Well has gone through a remodel of the store and a major upgrade to the prepared foods section in the form of a sit down cafe. Prepared salads, sandwiches, and smoothies are still available in addition to cafe offerings. It's clean and bright inside with wooden seats, metal counter stools which are fine for a quick snack or meal, but not so comfortable that people will hang out for hours on end. You order at the counter and when it's ready ,they call your name and you pick it up at a different counter. I arrived before the lunch rush having my choice of seats , but by the time I finished the cafe was over half full. I went it to try the Ramen after reading about the care the chef puts into making the broth, but I was lured away by the Bahn Mi sandwich. There's always tomorrow.... The chicken was marinated in a traditional lemongrass marinade, served with pickled carrot and daikon with cucumber and cilantro on a toasted sourdough baguette. A vegan sriracha sauce is drizzled over. I enjoyed the flavors of the sandwich but had problems with the execution. The roll was over baked, then over toasted making it hard and brittle. It was so difficult to get a bite off I ended up eating the filling then nibbling away at the bun. The chicken was nicely flavored, but "pulled" into small chunks. It fell out of the bun as I tried to take a bite . I might try it again , since I went in early in the day, maybe I got a bun leftover from yesterday? I will definitely get back to try some of the new offerings and get back into the habit of picking up summer rolls for a lite meal or snack, or ordering one of their delicious smoothies. read more

I usually really love going here for a DJ blast smoothie and a chicken banh-mi. This time, I had ordered my food ahead, over the phone and when I arrived to pick up my food and pay, I was told that the machine was down and they were only accepting cash. (could've meantioned something over the phone as well). Unfortunately for me, I didn't have any cash on me so I had to run to the bank to take cash out. I was super excited for my food and they had never disappointed me before so at this point it wasn't that big of a deal. The reason I am deciding to give 2 stars this time is because I had ordered a Dj Blast Smoothie and some Avocado Toast but when I finally received my meal after an unwarranted trip to the bank and back, I was majorly disappointed in the fact that my smoothie lacked it's usual sweetness and pizazz as if there were a couple of ingredients missing?? and then when I finally opened up my Avocado Toast, it was upsetting to find that it was just half of a plain avocado on some sourdough bread (i was hoping for at least some seasoning and MAYBE a mashed avocado?). I'm not expecting perfection, i just find it funny that they are allowed to sell this to customers at such a price. I'm thinking there might be some new staffing/training going on so I'm hoping that these mistakes will subside as time goes on.
