This place was so good. Everything we ordered came out fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The portions were huge and we definitely got our money's worth and still had leftovers. We tried the pho, pad thai, and shrimp fried rice and honestly couldn't pick a favorite. Everything hit. The service was really good too. It felt like a family run spot, which made it feel more welcoming and genuine. Only small thing is it was a little quiet inside and some background music would make the vibe even better. We used to eat often at Blue Ginger years ago when we lived in the area, and were pleasantly surprised to find it still open when we were visiting recently. The menu has been scaled back a bit, and when we asked the servers about the missing items it was clear they had very limited English. Which wasn't really a problem; service was still friendly and attentive. The food was just ok; we got the phô, which was decent sized but not very flavorful. The fresh rolls were also pretty big but likewise bland. The decor was exactly as I remembered it from long ago. This little restaurant is located in a strip mall in Tehachapi, a place where I would not expect to find Vietnamese food. I ordered the #18 pho ga (chicken). The broth piping hot, I could hear it being heated in a wok. It was fresh tasting and light with chunks of breast meat. Hubby had the #1 pho beef special that was also quite delicious. I had a taste of the broth and it was redolent with cinnamon and star anise. The quality is as good as you will find in the Bay Area. Pricing is extremely reasonable. Two small bowls of pho and a pot of tea set us back a whopping 18$ - definitely NOT Bay Area prices. Would definitely eat here again if I am staying the night in Tehachapi. read more

We love a good bowl of pho on a cold winter night. The brisket pho is the preference for our whole family. Their spring rolls with peanut sauce are nice too. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. My only complaint is that their to-go soups come in plastic containers. I don't like all that plastic leaching into my food during my half hour drive home. I've started bringing my own glass jars, but they don't fill those up for me, so I just really quickly take the broth and pour it into the glass asap upon purchasing. read more

I'll give this a second try,but the first was abit of a disappointment. My favorite desert island food is Bun Thit Nuong, bbq pork with rice noodles. It's a staple. This version was very americanized sweet bbq, lacking the usual range of veggies - no carrots, no cilantro. The pour over sauce was a bit of a miss also - no spice, poor fish sauce. First noticed Blue Ginger Pho last week. A few nights ago we decided to eat dinner here. The landlord of that stripmall really needs to get the sign of the restaurant fixed. If I did not know the restaurant was here, I would have missed it because their sign was not lighted up. Since their Blue Ginger Pho sign was not lighted up, you could not see the restaurant from the street. Anyways, we made it inside and grabbed a table to dine at. They were not busy at the time so service was quick, efficient, and courteous. My wife enjoyed her Pho. I think it was #8. I sneaked a taste, and I thought the broth was tasty. My critic to this place is that they did not add mint to the spring rolls or have basil to add to the pho. These two items are vital in these dishes. I'd rather take a trip to LA to get the authenticity with all the fixings and spend the extra money on gas. Due to the lack of these ingredients, I took a star away. Another star was taken due to the costs, unfortunately the cost was higher than most pho restaurants I've experienced. Smiles go a long way, wish the service had come with one. The place was clean and tidy. I don't think I'd be back even though I live in the area. Had to give a second follow up review.. Not long after our first visit, we had bad info that the restaurant had closed. We were sooo disappointed. Thanks to other Yelpers, this weekend we were delighted to find this little gem is STILL open and just as good as the first time we stopped in! The owner is so friendly.. He remembered us from our first visit. Probably because it's not every day a new customer comes in and raves wildly about how magnificent everything is. He even said, "I remember you from a long time ago-you said we have to get on the Internet to get more people in". Apparently the husband and I will fail as bank robbers if we are that well recognized by someone a year later after meeting us once! Pho (#3 with "rare beef" brought out raw on the side so I could add to hot broth as I ate) was still fabulous... Bo Luc Lac was seared in a hot wok to perfection and full of flavor.. Even the simple Chicken Chow Mein was fantastic! We couldn't decide between egg rolls and spring rolls, so the owner made the order half of each. Now THAT is service! Just before leaving, he made us two boba drinks to go for dessert... Mango and Taro. Mmmm.. I only wish that the restaurant was close to home or the office. How can this place have five stars? Came here based on the great reviews and ordered a large brisket pho and a brisket clay pot. The quality of the brisket was horrible, very fatty and no flavor. The noodles were rather hard when served and took a long time to soften. There was hardly any meat in the large pho, mostly a giant bowl of noodles. I've had great pho on both the West and East coast. This is exactly the kind of pho I would expect to find in the middle of nowhere. Only took a few bites and didn't bother to finish. The clay pot was ok, a lot of veggies, really hot. The quality of the brisket was still very poor in flavor and quality. This was a great place to stop by and grab Pho to go! On our way to Mammoth we came through Tehachapi for a bite to eat, and we were craving something on the healthier side. We both got the rare beef pho and it was awesome! We also got the chicken fried rice for our kids. They loved it but said the chicken was a bit fatty. I went to the Blue Ginger today for lunch. I'm not from Tehachapi nor do I spend much time here so i was kind of just driving around the different shopping centers looking for lunch when I was surprised to see a big PHO sign, YAY! So I parked (I scored a shady spot, yes!) walked to the door and saw it was rated a "B', hesitated a second and thought what the hell, right?... I'm no expert on pho but I thought it was really tasty and fresh. I got the #18 which is seafood pho. It had imitation(i think) crab, shrimp, squid, and fish paste(like a fish meat ball sliced). I really liked the broth and the squid which was really tender. I got the small which was too large for me to finish it all. The service was very attentive, never letting my glass get below half full. I felt slightly offended that he was directing me how to eat the pho and explained to me what hoisin sauce and saracha was, dude this isn't my first asian rodeo, but whatever he was being nice and I guess I Iooked like a noob to him "you gonna try with chopstick?". Went Oct 18th passing thru on my way to Vegas. The server looked like he hated his job. The guy at the cashier a bit more pleasant still did not make us feel welcomed. I have dined here many times on my way to Vegas. The tables changed so it may be under new ownership? My pho was good but the customer service was bad and I ordered a small order of eggrolls it was around $4.75 you only get 2 eggrolls so it's pricey! And then they have the audacity to serve me 1 eggroll that is burnt, it's baffling the lack of pride this restaurant has. I definitely won't be returning again. I have only lived in this town for about a year, but so far this is my family's favorite restaurant. I had the steamed bao buns and an order of chicken fried rice and my wife had the vegetarian pho and fresh spring rolls. Absolutely everything was delicious. The fried rice had charring which added so much flavor, I can't get over it. The bao buns were so good that I had to order more to take home for later. My toddler son absolutely loved everything we put in front of him, and he is normally a very picky eater. The couple who were working were very nice and attentive. So PHOking good! The beef pho is extremely tasty. They have small and large bowls, and I'm telling you the small is enough---packed with noodles. I tend to get the vegetable pho, with beef broth at all the Vietnamese restaurants I go to. The last 4 times I went to this location and asked for the veggie pho with beef broth, it wasn't beef broth. *sigh*. So now, I just end up getting beef pho or one of their stir fried dishes and call it a day. With it being so chilly out here, Pho is sooo good on a cold day!
