Amazing!! I am in love with this place. Was worried about the service based on reviews, but we had no problems. Had the spicy drunken noodles, crab fried rice and orange chicken (for my son). Everything tasted fresh, authentic and satisfying. The waitress asked if we were sure we wanted spicy and we said yes. I think it could be spicier so next time I will ask for extra spicy. The food here is fantastic, very fresh and great portion sizes. If you are traveling east or west on Hwy 58 near Tehachapi, it is pretty freeway close and service is pretty fast. I do wish the bathrooms and customary fish tank were a little cleaner..with that said... We always order the chicken pho. Hubby orders only white meat in his pho and I get the special which is white and dark meat (chicken). These are big chunks of tender meat. The dark meat does have a little chicken fat attached to it so if you are a "no fat" kinda person, order the white meat only. The menu says you can order large or small. Trust me it is so good you will never order a small size. When you leave the restaurant you will tell yourself, "Next time I am going to order a small."....but when you come back your gonna order the large. It happens to me every time. If you haven't had pho before, it is like a basic chicken (or beef) broth soup. There are a pile of rice noodles at the bottom of the bowl along with your meat choice. Pho is served with a side tray that has cool, crisp mung beans(those are the white sprout looking things for you non foodies), fragrant Thai basil, delicious lime wedges and a couple of slices of fresh jalapeño pepper. I always put a dash of Siracha sauce and some houchin sauce in my bowl and mix it all up. I then add a big handful of beans. I grab a bunch of basil stalks and strip off all of its leaves. I shred the leaves in my hands and then add them to the soup. I like lime so I add the juice of an entire lime. This makes the warm, yummy soup have a bright, fresh, flavor and your fingers will have a fragrant basil smell. You are going to use your chop sticks to grab some noodles, beans, meat and green for the perfect bite. I love this soup because where else do you eat soup with chop sticks. Remember the chop sticks make it perfectly acceptable to slurp your noodles. Who doesn't love that! They leave the napkin dispenser on the table...so slurp away. There is nothing better on a cold day or night to warm your belly. The good news is Tehachapi is in the mountains so it is usually cool enough to eat pho anytime of the year. We found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try because of it's high ratings. Right when we walked in the restaurant, there was a bunch of non asian people. Immediately, I thought " uh oh ... Usually when the restaurant is filled with non viet people, the food is usually nasty or bland ." it didn't help either that this is located in the boonies... I've been to this restaurant several times over the last 5 years. I enjoy the pho and the spring rolls and the prices have always been reasonably priced. I moved away from Tehachapi a few years ago and stop in when I can when driving to Bakersfield. I was disappointed and embarrassed at my last visit here and it's deterred me from wanting to return again. I stopped in and a lady approached me with a menu, I always order the same items, a bowl of pho and spring rolls as an app. When she was about to hand me my menu, I told her I already knew what I wanted and she wrote down my order. She brought out my food at the same time, I ate it and was satisfied and told her I wanted to place an additional order of spring rolls to go. She came back out when my to go order was ready and presented me with my check. I was shocked when my check was over $40! I had never paid this much before on my previous visits so I reached for one of the menus to review the price and she sharply told me that I was looking at the incorrect menu that it was an "old" menu and I told her, I was just checking why it was so expensive? She repeated my order to me and said "two large orders of spring rolls" and recited the price of them. I replied that I wanted an appetizer and didn't ask for a large order, she then told me they came in two sizes, small and large. So I replied, "when I told you I was ready to order and asked for spring rolls, why didn't you ask me which size I wanted instead of ASSUMING I wanted the large order which is more expensive?" And she rudely replied, that "I should have said small" I felt like she was taking advantage of me and making me feel like it was my fault, she knew very well that I didn't take the menu from her, she should have indicated there were two sizes and given me the OPTION to select which one. This is going on at the front of the restaurant, mind you, so other patrons are looking back at us as we are debating over the price. I have never had this experience there before. I believe the lady is one of the owners and she was using a walker to get around so I felt ridiculous arguing with her but, felt she could have handled this better. I can appreciate when someone can take accountability for their actions, no one is perfect but, rather than taking any accountability whatsoever, this lady put all blame on me, did not offer to reduce the price or even APOLOGIZE. My "go to" place in Tehachapi. I first moved here four years ago and the restaurant was under a different owner and not so great. Mai bought it and definitely upped the taste and quality level, so now i eat there at least once a week. So Pho-King amazing! This place is delicious and the best pho I've ever had, and I come from a place that has one of the largest Vietnamese/Hmong populations in America! The fresh spring rolls were absolutely delicious and the authentic peanut sauce that they come with is so good you'll want to put it on everything. I chose the Pho that has both beef steak and brisket in it and I can't even put into words how delicious it was. This place is a gem! It's very small and no frills, we went there two times because we liked it so much the first time and the owner waited on us both times. He is very very nice and accomodating and will sit and chat with you, and seemed to really like answering questions we had about the menu or his food. We tried the spring rolls with shrimp and pork, you really cant mess that up. I tried their Pho and enjoyed it, my bf tried their vermecelli noodle dish with pork and shrimp and then pork and meatballs, both times it was good. They make their own fish sauce, and it's not very overpowering. We also tried their chicken curry which was OK, they use more marsala in their curry so its more of a brown curry and it wasn't to spicy even though I asked for it medium. So ever since I came to tehachapi about 6 years I have loved Blue Ginger. I was eating there about once a week. I absolutely love their fresh Vietnamese spring rolls with a side of peanut sauce. In the last year I was becoming very disappointed in their food and service. I felt that it was time to find a different favorite spot. I haven't been in over a year until today. I saw they had new ownership and the letter A was posted in the window from a C. I thought I'd try again and surprisingly I was the only one in their but was able to talk to the new owner and enjoy my all time favorite spring rolls. Everything was clean, fresh and the owner was extremely kind. This made me extremely happy that I may have my spot again. Definitely would recommend going and trying out the new owner and try to put the old ginger aside. Will bring my mom next time. read more

Acceptable pho. I had the white and dark chicken meat traditional pho. Just did take out the first time and it was good enough that I went back and sat in the dining room. Had the all white meat chicken pho the second time, and both times the broth was rather Bland. A good broth makes the dish and this is lacking in this place. The food was about a two, the service was even worse. My husband ordered the spring rolls and the large #2. The wrapper on the spring rolls were hard and his soup was just ok. I ordered the egg roll and the chicken chow mein. My egg rolls were over cooked and showed up after my dinner was brought out. They didn't bring any silverware with my food and couldn't even be bothered to refill our water. My husband got up and walked across the restaurant to get me something to eat with and ask for more water. We went about eating our dinner and when I was out of water again the waitress was no where to be found. The cook was outside and started knocking on the window to get the waitresses attention. I love this place so much that I had to write a second review. We walk in and our "usual" table is taken, so I pick another table. No big deal. The owner walks up, greets us, and APOLOGIZES for our table being taken! Seriously, this is the nicest man on earth. Anyway, they get 7 stars for service. We typically walk in after 8 p.m. and feel bad since it's pretty late for Tehachapi. Never mind the lateness, the staff here still manage to turn out the freshest and best tasting food and give us the most amazing service right before closing time (9 p.m.). The cook comes out and makes sure things are good. Drinks are refilled. Last night, they had the best egg rolls -- we had to ask for a second order because they were so great. I love their pho and they always throw in a ton of good stuff. There's no better cure for that cold Tehachapi wind than Blue Ginger Pho. read more

I'm not in Tehachapi very often, and look to Yelp for dining recommendations. We've tried the Redhouse BBQ and it is pretty good. But we were looking for something different, and maybe less crowded. The review for Blue Ginger Pho looked great, so it was a no-brainer. Blue Ginger Pho is located in a strip mall. Nothing fancy, but that's fine by me. Inside there are plenty of tables (maybe 15ish?). The service was prompt and friendly. It was kind of odd that we had about 3 different servers during the course of our meal. But I'd rather a place be overly attentive than under. Prices were average and on par with most Pho places in Bakersfield. I believe most Pho's were under $10, and you can choose between a small and a large. Unless you plan on sharing, the small should be more than enough for one person. The food came out very quickly. Granted we were 1 of 3 tables there, but I would the food made it to our table in under 10 minutes. The options for Pho are endless. There's plenty of options, including white and/or dark meat. They also are kind enough to supply very large containers of Sriracha and Hoison sauce. The basil, cilantro, and other accoutrements were nice and fresh. Overall, our experience was nice. It wasn't absolutely outstanding, but the Pho was solid especially for a place like Tehachapi. read more

All the accolades are deserved. Tonight we had chicken pho, two clay pots, 2 appetizers, & a shrimp dish ordered by my bil. All top notch. Bill was maybe $44. I have had Vietnamese food from coast to coast and Blue Ginger is right up there in quality. Plus the owners were so helpful and friendly. The only thing keeping them from a five star rating is the lack of ambiance. For my book, good food trumps ambiance. They are sandwiched in between a failed bookstore and Radio Shack and a Dominoes. Not a good spot but I would hope people will overlook that and go for the excellent food. When back in Tehachapi I am gonna return and try some other dishes they offer. Well done! read more

I don't usually travel to Tehachapi often but I was up there visiting friends and decided to visit Blue Ginger Pho for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised that a little place hidden in a strip mall could produce such an amazing meal. Every person working the dining room greeted you with a warm greeting. The Vietnamese spring rolls were delicious and the peanut dipping sauce as just as great. The pho was full of flavor....glad the broth wasn't weak - like most places can be. I've found everything here to be good- the pho, the bun, the egg rolls, the fried rice, etc. They've got more than 20 varities of pho- pho ga (chicken soup) being my favorite. Friends who've traveled to Vietnam compliment this place for it's authenticity (especially considering the local context...) but the food is just dang good. A big bowl of pho is just perfect for blustery Tehachapi days. The food is fresh, hot, and all around a flavor-fest. The service here is always polite & friendly. There's one guy who is the host/waiter/server and he's just the nicest. The prices are fantastic ($6 for a small bowl, $7 for the large). Wonderful people, fresh, fresh fresh ingredients, excellent prices, and some of the best pho I have eaten, from SF to Garden Grove! I did takeout, so I didn't get the restaurant experience, but it was cute and very welcoming inside. The Thai iced tea was delicious, not overly sweet, and the fried rice had lots of chicken and tons of vegetables. The serving size was enormous! They took my order over the phone quickly and very politely, and got it exactly right! I would eat there every day if I lived in town, and I'm sorry I didn't try it the first night! They don't have to-go menus, but they do offer you a menu and suggest that you take photos of it, which I thought was cute. I may post mine as they are a little clearer than the ones on the site right now (no offense! I'm glad someone posted them)! We decided to give it a try. The owner was super nice and greeted us immediately when we came in. They are for real viet and even had an accent. We told him we found him on Yelp and he laughed. We chatted briefly after we ordered, which was great. Granted we were from SF, this pho couldn't quite compare, but was still pretty good for being located where it was. So I came just to get boba. I asked for the mango Boba drink. I misunderstood what the lady said. The mango drink was super sweet and weird and the boba was frozen and she microwaved and then put it in. 10 minutes later my boba was rock hard and the drink had separated. I feel I wasted $5.
