I've lost track of how many Thai restaurants I've eaten at during my work travels, and it still amazes me that one of my favorites is tucked away in little Tehachapi. Whether it's the rich, creamy curries, the incredible soups, perfectly balanced Pad Thai, or just about anything else on the menu, I've yet to have a meal that disappointed. Every dish tastes like someone actually cares about what's coming out of the kitchen--which, unfortunately, isn't something you can say about every restaurant these days. The flavors are bold without being overwhelming, the ingredients are fresh, and every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. It's the kind of place where you tell yourself you'll try something new... and then end up ordering your favorite because it's just that good. Thai Hachapi is proof that you don't have to drive to Los Angeles to find outstanding Thai food. Sometimes the best meals are hiding in plain sight. If you're in Tehachapi and craving Thai, don't overthink it. Just go. Your taste buds will be doing the wai while you're still asking for a to-go box. read more

This is the second time I've been here over a couple of year span. Impressions are hard to overcome and this second impression let me down. The restaurant was overwhelmed by a very large party and the service of other parties severely suffered. There was barely any checking in with other tables as the larger party was served by all the staff. I couldn't even get a refill on water the entire time of my very long stay due to patiently waiting for my order to come out. I pretty much never come here because I would eat at the other Thai restaurant. The last few times we've eaten at the other place, we have not been happy. I placed a to- go order that my daughter picked up for me. I ordered pad see eww with chicken and shrimp, and pad Thai for my son. My dish was perfect. Phenomenal!!! Reminds me of Thailand with the authentic flavors and spice. Papaya salad, Thai spicy, isn't for newcomers! Delicious and perfect heat, for me. My tongue is still burning 20 minutes later :) The Pad See Ew with tofu was full of fresh basil flavor and tofu cooked perfectly with a little firmness but still soft. Busy for a workday lunch but nice and calm with a great wait staff. Coming back next week for some more! read more

Don't think my lisinopril is going to save me here! Had the pad see ew with tofu and it had way too much soy and oyster sauce (salty). Good amount of tofu though. A little too much salt for my taste. The Thai ice tea s good but very sweet. Get it to go, as they serve way more than in a glass. They say it's also priced more but I don't see a price for it on menu so I think it's same price. Would I come here again, probably not. Only one server and probably only one cook. Last thing, prices on menu are different than the prices at the end as they'll said it's the old price. Thai ice tea on menu was $3.75 but the price on receipt came out to $4.25. Definitely not coming back. read more

If you're going to open a restaurant in a town with a name like Tehachapi, why not open a Thai restaurant and play upon the name. I came to Thai Hachapi for a birthday lunch recently with some family. Our order included panang curry (my lunch), sweet and sour chicken (mom's lunch) and Mongolian beef (step dad's lunch). My curry was great. I love panang and this was a good rendition. Rich, creamy and a little spicy (I ordered mild). Chicken, bell pepper, peas and carrots. I loved every bit of it. At least as much of it that the rice could contain. The rest came home to enjoy again later. My mom's sweet and sour chicken was not quite as she expected. She was thinking more of the battered and fried style. This was naked chicken with lots of veggies and fruit (peppers, carrots, pineapple) in sweet and sour sauce. It was good but the chicken was maybe over cooked. It was not as tender as the chicken in my curry. Good flavor in the sauce though. My mom said she would order the panang curry like I got if she goes back again. I didn't try my step dad's beef dish. He ate it all so it must have been good enough for him. It looked pretty good. Since I ordered curry I missed out on the pot stickers and soup that came with mom and step dad's lunch. Their meals were on the lunch special menu. Mine was not. I did try a sip of the soup and liked it very much. Clear broth with cabbage, carrots and cilantro. Very nice. I had been wanting to try Thai Hachapi for quite some time. But I don't live anywhere near it so I didn't ever have much of an opportunity. I made it a point to go this time. I'd go back given the chance. The restaurant is located basically in the heart of downtown Tehachapi. I like the old town feel of the area. And the small family owned feel of the restaurant. Plus the curry was dang good. I may try pad woon sen, pad thai or pad see ew next time just to get a feel for the noodles. Hopefully they are as good. read more

The food is great and the staff has prudence and integrity which makes the restaurant feel like a home for the guests and staff to enjoy themselves while enjoying their meal together. They have sports on the television as well as some good music on their speakers. read more

Stopped in for a late meal. It's been awhile since I have come here. Looked really clean when I walked in and you can definetly.smell the food. I was greeted instantly. I ordered hot tea they do have several decaf options I was surprised Almond cream, blueberry, peach, and lemon ginger. We are trying the peach. Love that they have loose leaf tea! Me and my husband were on a work trip in Tehachapi for a week and wanted some Thai food and loved the name of this place. Thai Hachapi, so clever! Some dishes were better than others. To go order. Had Pad Thai, which I always try on first visit. Not too impressed. Not much flavor, not enough tamarind sauce. Ordered with tofu added. The quantity was a bit small. Im used to containers twice the size, but that alone wouldn't keep me from returning. But they also didn't include a lime wedge, which is essential to Pad Thai. However, I also got satay, and that too was very flavorless The peanut sauce was not much improvement. And the size of the skewers was less than I see at most other places, and even though they had visible turmeric, they too could use some seasoning. My sister and I just ate dinner there. We were going to go to 4 seasons cafe because of the reviews. Let me say I was skeptical of the whole place. We chose to go to Thai Hapachi instead. The service was great. The food was fresh. I'm not a big Thai person so I ordered the chow mein. It was excellent. My sister ordered the Thai chicken lettuce wraps. I wanted to try this place because of the name. Smaller sized restaurant & very busy. The staff is very quick and friendly. The place is bright and clean. We ordered the appetizer sampler It had fried shrimp, chicken wontons & eggrolls. They were each so good, the eggroll was a standard eggrolls, the chicken wontons were so simple but so tasty. The shrimp coating or breading was amazing. the texture was just so crispy. Chicken satay was great the dipping sauce was great. The little cucumber salad is refreshing. Our entrees we got were chicken pad Thai, panang curry with chicken, spicy basil pork belly. Pad Thai was great, lots of chicken & had a hint of sweetness. The panang is amazing, it was my first time trying it and oh my good I'm obsessed. Has a sweetness to it and so much chicken it was delicious. The spicy basil pork belly is a must try, we got medium spicy and that was great for us. The pork belly is fried to perfection, the veggies aren't soggy, super tasty. The sweetness of the Panang & spicyness of the pork belly dish went so great together. This is by far my favorite Thai restaurant. Came by on a Friday afternoon, and there were a few tables full but they had room for us. We were a party of 6, and they have a table that can accommodate 8! We all ordered various items from the Lunch special menu which is $11.99 for a meal. A great price in my opinion. I got the Lunch special: spicy basil with pork 8/10 Very flavorful with good spice. I got the mild and thought it was great. I also go Mango sticky rice, which was not as fresh as I'd like. The sticky rice seemed to not be fresh or soft and quite hard. Upon arriving at the restaurant, there was no one available to greet us or direct us to seats. We eventually took our own seats and waited for someone to ask about drinks or orders - surprise, no one ever came. I went and found a worker myself and ended up ordering to go. First visit last week while working in Mojave, we decided to stop on the way back to Bakersfield and try out Thai Hachapi. It didn't start off on the right foot as the server didn't notice us come in and left us sitting at our table unattended for several minutes. We finally had to catch her attention to even let her know we were there after she had taken menus to a group that came in after us. The food came out pretty quick and I'm happy with the portion size. There was plenty of food and the crab noodles use a good amount of real crab which is nice. Overall the flavor was a little bland, it needed something. A little spice, some salt, something to bring the flavor out of it a bit more. I expect big bold flavors with Thai food and it was a little bit of a miss on that. Overall the portion size, quality and speed were good. I'll give it another shot and try something different next time, I think there's a lot of potential there, maybe I ordered the wrong item or just caught the chef on an off day. read more

I was the last person to be there last night. I ordered the beef jerky and the combo appetizers. When I got home I opened the containers and thought that the beef jerky look too dark and it was because it was burnt it was like eating charcoal and the combo was awful everything was hard as a rock it was egg rolls and shrimp and 1 other I can't even remember what it was I think my brain is blocking it out. Everything looked so good in the pictures on the wall but unfortunately we can't eat pictures. I was highly recommend NOT to go there I paid $35 for way over priced and way over cooked food. The containers it all came in probably taste better than what was in them. Sorry Thai Hachapi but you all should take the name of my hometown off your restaurant I don't want you representing my hometown with your over priced over cooked and over to another restaurant I'm going next time!! read more

Food was ok. We were meeting our friend half way and chose to eat here. I was craving spicy eggplant and it just didn't do anything for me. Actually, this place just didn't do anything. Maybe the waitress lady killed the vibe. I enjoyed time with my friends but the food. It was just there. We had the pad thai too. She brought us chicken when we told her pork. I can't remember what my other friend ordered. It was like a parang curry but had crispy noodles and some other stuff. It was decent for something new. I would eat it again. Cute name and good food! Perfect for passing through town. We phoned in the order after trying a few times and getting a busy signal on a Friday night. Thinking they were really busy was quoted 15 minutes wait, not bad. When picking up the order there were hardly any customers though, perhaps they do a lot of take-out? I had the fat rice noodles with Chinese broccoli and chose chicken as the protein. The taste was on point but it lacked the broccoli and that was disappointing especially because that was the only veg in the dish. My husband had the veg noodle soup with shrimp added. We had dinner here the night before Christmas Eve. We intentionally picked this place knowing that places like Big Poppas would be packed! Thankfully we were right and it was a fairly slow night at Thai Hachapi. The service was attentive. We ordered hot tea and a soda. The tea was as expected. We decided to get some egg drop soup to share. I haven't had egg drop in years. It was a huge portion of soup for the 3 of us. Soup was good. My partner and her aunt said the pad Thai were very good. Based on the child sized bite that was left of the plate, I'll take their word for it. The crunchy noodle thing we got wasn't my favorite, but it's just something I wouldn't order. The spicy eggplant was very good. We ordered ours at a level 3 (which I think was spicy) the waitress said that level would be SUPER spicy, but it wasn't an overpowering spice. More like a mild spice. Anyway, it was good. The spicy eggplant came with steamed sticky white rice. The rice was also good. They also bring you a tray of spices/sauces to use in your food. That was a nice addition. If we go out to dinner in T town again it will definitely be at Thai Hachapi. read more

We decided to have dinner at Thai Hachapi at 17:00 since we were planning on attending an event at 18:30 at Fiddler's Crossing. What a HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. First, it was like eating at a Day Care Center. A family arrive after we ordered who had screaming kids. Other people were annoyed and making loud comments regarding the screaming kids. Parents were not concerned their unruly kids were effecting the dinner of other customers (typical). I felt the restaurant should have made some sort of attempt to the parents to control their kids. I realize the restaurant has limited control over their customers BUT something should have been done. Second, we placed our order at 17:10 and there were two other couples in the restaurant at that time. We did not get our food until 18:15 and other were being served who arrived after us. We had to rush our dinner to make the 18:30 event. When I brought this to the attention of the staff they used the excuse they were very busy. I said we placed our order before the rush.
