50 year reunion.

I'm a bit late saying thank you to the whole gang. We celebrated our 50 year St. Anne's grade school reunion and we had a wonderful time! The food and drinks were great. Thanks again from the class of '73.

A place where everybody knows your name! I hadn't been to the Blue Heron in several years after having been an "out of town" regular for some time. A family illness kept me away for several years. A couple days ago I was in Barrington for the first time in a long time. I walked into the Heron and was treated like the Prodigal Son. Addie, still running the place, tending bar and cooking amazing pub food. The same bunch of regulars that I'd said goodbye to years ago greeted me as though I'd just left the room a minute ago. All sitting 6 feet apart and watching whatever sports can be found on TV. But there's more to the story than that. You see that ill family member was my wife of 33 years, Mary Jo. I had returned to Barrington to lay her to rest in the town of her birth. Upon learning the reason for my return Addie organized a (very) impromptu wake. He whipped up a rum and lemon concoction based on her drink of choice: Bacardi Limon and Diet Coke. He dubbed it the "Mary Jo Shot". Toasts were given and eyes grew misty. The Blue Heron is more than a building where you can watch a game, have a beer and get a great pizza. It's a community. It's an institution. One for which I will always be great full. I'll see you all next time I pass through town.

Based on the great reviews posted here, we wanted to try the Blue Heron. When we asked, we were told that the kitchen was closed "until the owner gets back because he is the cook." No indication when that would be was offered so we finished our drinks and left. Disappointing.

Fun dive bar. Good bartenders and nice patrons. Pretty good pizza as well. Give this place a shot if you're in the area.

Not sure if Addie serves the perch and walleye on other days but he has it on Friday for sure .

Food reviews: Saigon branzino--perfect balance of citrus and heat. Crunch of the fish skin was perfect. Crispy rice and bok choy was nice too, just wish there was more of it! Berkshire ribs--deeply developed flavor and fall of the bone cook made this an unforgettable dish! Highly recommend

She was friendly and great at recommending dishes. The busboy (we didn't catch his name) was positive and attentive. The staff really make the spot wonderful. It's modern inside, dark paint, and updated decor. However it feels friendly with the trendy atmosphere. The way these dishes look also match the ambiance at the restaurant. We ordered lots of dishes and they mostly looked great! The Salat Roasted Beet Salad is fruity, thanks to the berries and citrus, with a pistachio whip on the bottom of the dish. It's a heavier dish for a salad, but absolutely delicious and fruity. I also had the San Francisco Style Cioppino was good, but I wasn't expecting it to be like a zupa di pesci, while the flavor was good, I was having FOMO of others eating monkfish and the walleye. The Cioppino had a Louisiana flavored sauce. There was a variety of fish which were all cooked and not overdone. It's a massive dish! We finished off with English Sticky Toffee Pudding and Italian Citrus Mascarpone Cake. The cake was amazing! It wasn't too tart and light. The sticky pudding was also delicious and very sweet. It's a very beautiful restaurant, service is great, the plates look amazing and tastes great. It's definitely a spot to try again!

I am a wine club member and am a huge fan of the wine tasting experience there. Though most months there are only two brand new wines to try, it's still fun to revisit additional wines I've already had and sometimes the tasting room associates will recommend blends of two wines that I haven't tried mixing before. I recently found out from one of the associates that you can bring snacks to the tasting, which has been a real lifesaver as generally I'm doing the wine tasting on an empty stomach before dinner. Now I bring pistachios or pretzels. I wish they'd offer their pretzel bread during the tasting, but maybe that would make people linger too long for the tastings. Dinner is consistently good here, with my favorite order being Dana's Parmesan Crusted Chicken, second favorite being the Gnocchi alla vodka, and third the Crispy Asian Sesame Chicken salad. And of course, all of these are made better with a side of the complimentary pretzel bread! Cooper's Hawk also has the best espresso martinis! Just sweet enough but not creamy.
