I've been to Vault 232 a couple times now. Both times did not disappoint! This place is seafood centered if you like seafood but they also offer a various dishes. The first time I went was for happy hour and they offer an assortment of appetizers, tacos and a few cocktails at a reasonable price. This time I went after happy hour. The ambience is very nice, spotless and rustic. My waiter Marc R was very attentive and personable. My French martini was very good and the lobster and shrimp and pasta dish that Mark suggested was fantastic and plenty for two people! There was a generous amount of shrimp in that dish too. I just asked for the spicy sauce on the side. This is a must dish when you come here! I will definitely be back to this restaurant! I give them 4.5 stars.

If you are looking for the freshest fish this is your place to go. We have not yet dined in but we always get the fish from Fish Market and the owner Frank is the most wonderful guy. Always friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this place.

We visited for a family dinner and had a great experience overall. This restaurant seems ahead of its time in the revitalization process of downtown Lake Zurich. The restaurant is beautiful and inviting. The history of the restaurant is reflected in the decor. The staff was welcoming and friendly. We had a table right next to the vault which the kids loved. Our server quickly got a round of drinks ordered and started us on a round of appetizers. Those who ordered oysters were thrilled with the presentation and taste. We had quite the range of entrees ordered. Some left us wanting, others had us drooling. There was also some confusion about the modifications needed for allergies. We were told that the chef was new so I'm guessing that is the reason for most of the issues. The lobster Mac was the best bite of the day. The Mac and cheese was so creamy, rich and flavorful. The char grilled ribeye was cooked perfectly and flavorful. The surf n turf left us wanting. We were surprised by what a small plate it was based on the price. The steak was over cooked and we didn't get our slaw. We were grateful to have been able to eat some of the others leftovers to satiate our remaining hunger. The drinks were strong and inconsistent. The first old fashioned was perfect, the second was overly strong and contained a cheap maraschino cherry. Our dessert spread was excellent. The three desserts shared between 6 of us was the perfect amount. Overall, this was a great experience and we'd be happy to go back and try again.

Scallops Arborio. Fabulous. With my old-fashioned in the background. Drinks are always on point at The Vault.

We came here on Easter. We've been here before for my birthday. This is a beautiful restaurant decorated very well. When you walk into the restaurant, you see doors to a "vault "the bar is large and expensive. The dining area has plenty of room. There's a beautiful wall of water that divides the dining room in half. I looks like a modern restaurant but also with some touches of maybe the app prohibition? The drink menu definitely reflects prohibition time crafted cocktails. Whenever I have been here, the crafted cocktails are on point. Everyone at the table had different entrées. One of my sons had the state Diane recommendation from the bartender. We all tried a piece and it was excellent! I would provide a note of caution. Previously, we had had the crabcakes that were on the appetizer menu. And they were your usual larger size crabcakes. Now they have decreased the size to four small balls for the crabcakes. For me I would pass on the smaller crabcakes. On other person, our table had their massive burgers. Which are always exceptional. My other son and myself had the scallops Arborio. There were a generous portion of scallops that were cooked perfectly. And the Arborio was excellent and also add some spinach and sun-dried tomatoes. With just enough taste of lemon and the dish. We always start with the shrimp appetizer. It has some spicy chili sauce on the side. The shrimp is deep fried, but not with a heavy batter. This is a hidden gem in downtown Lake Zürich. Even though it looks like there is construction on the street, you are allowed to get into the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Our first visit to Vault 232 was enjoyable in every way. The interior was stylish and refined, with soft lighting and a beautiful water wall separating the dining room into two sections. The combination of brick and wood in design is always an appealing combination, especially in such a historic setting. My husband and I were very impressed by the menu. Everything we ordered was exceptional, with multiple preparation options for the fresh catch section. Our server Katie was helpful, professional and well-informed on the menu. The beautiful music provided by the violist during the evening greatly enhanced our experience.

These are the clams that were supposed to be shucked. See the first two pictures. Third picture shows what they should look like.

I hate to keep picking on this restaurant but I want to love it so desperately but I just can't. First two pictures shows what they called shucked clams. What I paid extra for them to do. Third picture shows what they look like after my husband, and I shucked them. All we received were clams that were cracked and broken. We had to clean them up. Frustrating and a total ripoff! Third year in a row that we were disappointed. LESSON LEARNED!

    "Shrimp Scampi" - delicious!

This was an unexpected treat! We walked in from a lackluster attempt at a dinner experience at a place up the street (looking at you Consume), and this was a balm on our weary, hungry souls. The ambiance was great - the wandering jazz sax was an added amusement. The food defied all expectations - I truly cannot overstate the quality of the seafood. The oysters were phenomenal, the shrimp GIGANTIC. I had the Lobster and Shrimp Pasta and it was divine. Atmosphere was relaxing and intimate, even with Halloween decor :) Service was prompt, proactive, and polite. The chef stopped by the table and asked about our evening, and subsequently served us an amuse bouche of fresh tuna sushi. Five stars! Drinks were the only (minor) drawback, but can very much be overlooked for the service, ambiance, and food quality. We'll be back!

Perfect date night spot! The cocktails are creative and delicious, the food is absolutely amazing, and the vibe strikes that perfect balance of lively yet intimate. Everything felt thoughtful and special -- we'll definitely be back.

This is all with plenty of parking, friendly service, attractive looking interior, varied menu, and very reasonable prices for the generous portion sizes. This is one of the nicer hidden gems, as the experience feels a bit more upscale relative to the prices. Food is very good here, if you're looking for well executed comfort food. The food is plated well and colorful, with good textures overall. The vegetables are fresh and meat quality is generally good. Maybe not the most complex versions of each dish I've ever had, but the pricing also reflects this as you're getting elevated versions of familiar dishes at only a few more dollars than a cheap carryout spot. Here are some quick thoughts on the items I tried: Honey Walnut Shrimp - Very generous amounts of shrimp which are large and have a good firmness. This is nice and crispy and the broccoli on the side is fresh. Dry chili chicken - One of many great versions of this dish you can get nearby. This was fairly crispy and not too spicy with a low amount of numbing oil. There was a good ratio of chicken versus chili in this dish. Sweet and Sour Pork Ribs -- Pretty good, good level of fat and there wasn't too much vinegar. It was enjoyable but probably would get something else on a future visit. Wok fried squid - Squid has a good texture, wasn't too firm or chewy and had a good flavor to it. Overall dish is very colorful and i enjoyed the vegetable combination. Sichuan string bean - Quite surprising, excellent flavor and the string beans were very fresh. This was packed with so much umami that it filled in the gap of another meat dish for me. Pea tips - I had the preparation with garlic and the flavor with excellent, with very good quality of vegetables as well. If I ate a fully vegetarian meal, I wouldn't mind having this with the string beans as both were super fresh and full of flavor. Fried fish with sweet sour sauce - This was presented in a very large portion size with tons of fish. This isn't as good as the expensive specialty ones you can get at some other restaurants, but definitely punches well above its weight given the price point. A must have for any lover of sweet and sour seafood as this really hits the spot for that specific crave. Braised pork belly - If I could order only one dish for a meal, this would be it. The meat is crazy tender and the sauce is super flavorful. This is one of the best options for comfort food you can get and you won't be disappointed. Overall, great food and a very nice setup. Bring a group if you can to try a variety of dishes. Make sure to come hungry as you'll get plenty of food no matter what you order.

Date of visit: 4-7-2026 - early evening…read more I've never been there before. I usually go to other Mexican food restaurants in the area. The place was clean and roomy. I took a booth and was given an extensive menu. The server offered chips and salsa. I was brought a small basket with about 10-12 large chips and a small shallow dish of watery commercial grade salsa in the basket with a tablespoon in it. Not having been given any additional plate, I guess I was expected to spoon the salsa onto the chips over the basket, because the dish was too shallow to dip a chip into other than the very tip of each chip. I ordered what I usually order at most Mexican food joints - taco dinner al pastor with onions and cilantro no cheese on anything including the beans. Service was prompt. The beans had cheese on them which I returned, and a dish came back without cheese, except when I took my first fork full, there was a strand of cheese left. The cook had just lifted the cheese off the original dish instead of replating the beans. The rice was formed into a perfect half moon shape on the quite large square plate. That is usually a signal to me that the restaurant is into portion control, as the aesthetics as can be seen from the photo attached make the rice look like a small amount. There was little flavor in the rice but something I did not expect - a slight fish flavor in the rice. Every fork full (only a fork and napkin provided - I guess the spoon from the salsa can be used as double duty) tasted like fish. That was a big minus. Either they use a fish base as part of the rice cooking process, or the cook used the pot for fish and didn't wash the pot prior to cooking rice in it. Or he was using a spoon that he was using for fish as well. Either way, I don't find fish flavored rice appealing. The beans were not puree and also contained whole beans, but were bland. I ordered the tacos with corn tortillas because I like the tortillas a little crispy, but these were somewhat soft. The al pastor meat has plenty of sauce and was minced. The meat sauce was very average in flavor, hardly any spice. Maybe the meat needed salt, but it sure needed something. There were two squirt tubes for sauce on the table, one green and one red. I tried the green sauce, it was too creamy, wasn't spicy and didn't do anything for the tacos. I finally used the remainder of the red salsa from the chips. I was given a few tiny wedges of lime (probably sliced also for the bar drinks) for three tacos, another indication of portion control over focus. I took a photo of this meal, not for reviews, but to show my girlfriend who was out of town what I was eating since she hadn't been here either. So I looked at the photo before leaving, and I then noticed that there were NO onions on the tacos despite asking for onions and cilantro. The kitchen wasn't slammed, so I just chalked it off to further inattentiveness by the cook despite the server's instructions. That may have added to the lack of flavor of the tacos, but it was really the al pastor sauce and seasoning that didn't cut it. All in all, I was disappointed in the meal. I didn't go to my regular place just to give this place a try. It seems the ball was dropped at every turn for this very simple staple meal at a Mexican restaurant. I would give this place a 4 out of 10 for the reasons given above. I wouldn't go again. The food was not terrible, but lacking in flavor, and the cook was obviously not into what he was doing. There are other places close by where the food is superior to theirs.

We made one, just in case. The inside is nice but not pretentious feeling for a steakhouse. It looked like there was a lot of seating at the bar open - might try that out if we come back. We were celebrating our anniversary, so that was noted on our little reservation card & our server acknowledged this - but nothing was done to really wow us or make us feel like we were celebrating until the very end of our meal (more on this in a bit). The food was pretty good - we both got some sort of meat. I got the prime rib and I was seriously missing some sort of horseradish sauce. The cut of meat though was very good and not super fatty, so extra points for that. The portions are very generous, so we didn't have room for dessert. After we paid, our server remembered it was our anniversary and offered us champagne.. it was nice, but a total afterthought. I was SO full that I really couldn't drink it. Lastly, the parking. The lot is shared with all of the other businesses in the mall area, so just beware. It might be better to park behind and walk through the path.
