One of the high end Taiwanese restaurant in SGV. First of all, food was amazingly good. We basically ordered almost every dish on the menu. The Crispy-Skin Roasted Duck Breast, Pan-Seared New York Strip, and the Sour & Spicy Parchment-Baked Branzino stood out the most. Service was excellent as well. Ambiance was well decorated given its high end atmosphere.
They say third time is the charm. This was definitely the case for last Sunday when I visited Blue Magpie with my family. We were there to celebrate a birthday and booked the private room. Since we had a large party, I got the chance to sample more of their dishes this time. We ordered more than 15 dishes and these were my favorites: 1. Taiwanese braised pork belly with fried eggs and rice - The pork belly was perfectly cooked; tender in texture and flavorful in taste. The rice soaked up the savory and sweet soy sauce. It was so delicious! A must-order. 2. Lobster - Succulent and tasty. Fresh. 3. Taiwanese fried rice noodles - The texture was perfect: not too dry and not oily. Moist and delicious, could use a tad less salt and white pepper. 4. Truffle poached chicken salad - This was a fusion dish done right. The truffles were not overpowering. It was refreshing yet flavorful. 5. Chicken soup - this was almost better than the chicken soup at Ding Tai Fung. It's different and just as good in a different way. 6. Scallion pork with crispy scallion pancake - This dish looked like tacos with the scallion pancake serving as the taco base. We also ordered the coffee short-ribs. Some pieces were dry. The lamb chop with broccolini was good. The duck was pretty good as well. The steamed fish didn't taste fresh. We had several chicken dishes, I liked the three cup chicken dish with mushroom the most. Service was good until they forgot one of our drinks. The presentation was refine. All in all, I do hope they stick around. There were some outstanding dishes.
I stated in my previous review that I wanted to try Blue Magpie's Happy Hour in the future, so here I am again. To summarize some previously stated facts: the restaurant opened in June 2025. It's an upscale Taiwanese place; the name is Taiwan's national bird. The restaurant's exoskeleton is not at all "Asian", but there are lovely Asian design details in the decor, design, and serving-ware. They have a small parking lot, but street parking can be a challenge. Happy Hour is offered Tues- Fri 3-6 pm and Sat/Sun 3-5 pm (closed Mon). There are 12 dishes on the menu and they are half-off during HH. Non-alcoholic drinks are half-off the second drink. When I came at 3:00 on a weekday, the place was quiet. A young man who looked like a proprietor or manager remembered me, maybe because I take a lot of photos; it's the Yelp way! He answered all of my questions and was more proficient in English than the waitress. I ended up ordering 7 of the 12 dishes. Each dish was well-prepared, beautifully plated and presented. Niggles about particular dishes are based on my personal taste and preferences. First off, be aware many dishes are garnished/topped with greens, which usually was cilantro shoots/baby cilantro. Their appearance isn't as distinctive as mature cilantro leaves, but their taste is just as potent and can easily overpower any dish. I picked off all of these greens, because just like my idol Ina Garten, I can only withstand cilantro in small doses. Here are the HH dishes I tried: 1) Seared Scallop with Aiyu Jelly. The scallop was seared, but sliced and combined with the jelly, had a soft texture. The jelly is a Taiwanese dish made from the seeds of a type of creeping fig plant. 2) Silken Egg with Sakura Shrimp and Seafood. Basically a chawanmushi, a warm egg custard with seafood. The custard and seafood within were delish, but the dish was topped with petite whole shrimp that had the taste of dried shrimp that I recall, not fondly, from my childhood, plus cilantro. So the 2 toppings were no's for me, bad dreams from a Chinese-American childhood. 3) Scallion Pork with Crispy Scallion Pancake. This dish was on the DineLA lunch menu. It's a soft taco topped with pork, pickled onions, corn and other things, including cilantro. Very nice, sans cilantro. 4) Drunken Shaoxing Shrimp. Whole shrimp in a Shaoxing wine "broth". Tasty, but very messy to eat since you have to behead, de-shell, de-tail and de-vein each shrimp. Yes, cilantro. 5) Golden Shrimp Toast & Pineapple. A modern and delish take on traditional shrimp toast, it's basically an open-faced shrimp salad sandwich. Very similar to their lobster and pineapple salad sandwich that was on the DIneLA menu. The bread was thick toasted slices of brioche (I think) topped with the shrimp salad, a squiggle of a sriracha aioli and chives (no cilantro!). 6) Chicken Pate with Crispy Youtiao. Another delish dish. Squiggles of chicken liver pate atop traditional fried Chinese donuts, topped with something that looked like pork floss (?) and chives. Again, no cilantro! 7) Crispy Fried Tofu. The tofu cubes were indeed fried but still soft. They were topped with a pickled slaw (cabbage and carrots) and alas, cilantro. Tasty, but I wish the tofu had retained some crispiness. My drink of choice was a Sparkling Fruit Refresher, very refreshing. Overall an excellent Happy Hour, great service and ambiance. I must return to try the other 5 HH dishes. My top 2 dishes from this visit: the shrimp toast and chicken pate.
I gave it two stars because we like the service, the waitresses are very attentive, very polite and the atmosphere was nice. I'm actually very excited to try the restaurant but I'm actually quite disappointed. Now onto the food which is the main point, I'm sorry but the food here simply does not justify the price. Out of all the fish that we ordered, I would say only the fish taste ok, everything else was just either plain or not good. The two dishes that I like to point out, the bamboo shoots were extremely tough -- almost impossible to chew. We asked them to replace the dish, and although they did, the new one was still not very satisfactory. I think you can buy this from the supermarket and just get cheese to spread on there and it would taste better. For the chicken, I don't even know where to begin The chicken was very dry and lacked flavor. The soup that came with it was also bland. It's hard to believe this dish costs $50 -- honestly, even the one from Costco tastes better. The four of us spent over $300 on maybe 5 dishes. That's about $75 per person, we didn't order lobster or steak, just veggies, fish, chicken etc. What I'm saying isn't even about whether the food was worth the price -- it's simply that the food itself just wasn't very good.
Have been wanting to try this place and decided Dine LA was the perfect time! Went on a Friday for a late lunch and the place was pretty full with folks also doing the Dine LA menu; small lot in the back was completely full, as were the immediate street spaces, so we ended up parking on Santa Anita, just before Huntington. Restaurant was very pretty and the bathrooms are quite lovely. The service was a mixed bag; the owner/manager guy was nice, the other waiter guy with the native level English was great, and the rest of the staff was friendly, but seemed frazzled. Food came out in a weird order, seems rhetorical kitchen was also frazzled, but we enjoyed what we ordered; portions were pretty big. We also added on a Taiwanese sausage, which was good, but a lot less sweet compared to traditional Taiwanese sausages. Won't say too much about the food since there are already a lot of reviews for the Dine LA menu, but I think the shrimp salad was better than the duck, and the wintermelon lemon drink is a lot less sweet than a traditional one. Also, some reviews saying the dessert was a bit bland, but we really enjoyed it. TBH, would probs not be back for a dinner if I was paying for myself, but would probs pop in for a lunch or take lunch. And, we do want to return and try happy hour.
It was an amazing meal during DineLA week, tomorrow is the last day for this special menu. I might come back tomorrow to try the other selections! Today, the appetizer was a scallion pork taco made of scallion pancake, scallion oil, chipotle mayo, greens and pickled red onions. I had the tea-smoked duck breast salad, mandarin orange slices, pickles, delicately seasoned dressing with the smoked flavor on the duck, for the salad. The main course was a pineapple lobster salad brioche with a side of salad and French fries, quite tasty and with a crunchy brioche. The dessert was a boba tea panne cotta, nicely decorated with tiny boba pearls. Overall, a very nice menu for DineLA week.
Came for DineLA! We got the lunch DineLA menu, which comes with a mini pork taco, choice of crispy shrimp salad or tea-smoked duck salad, an entree of either chicken and waffles or lobster brioche, and a choice or specialty drink with panna cotta dessert. The inside is nice and upscale, though there was a bit of an open area near the bar that could use some blockers. Bathrooms are really nice, they're all-gender but have clean private stalls. We enjoyed our taco and salads! They were refreshing and just enough food and flavorful to get started. The lobster brioche was filling and hearty. The bread was nice and toasted on the outside and still soft. The lobster was tasty with some crunch (maybe pineapple?). It came with shoestring fries. The chicken and waffle was pretty substantial. It could be for two! The waffle was already sweet so no need for syrup. The chicken portion was huge! It had the same taste as Taiwanese popcorn chicken with the five-spice flavor and crispy outside. It also had a runny fried egg to put it all together. Parking is available in the rear lot or on the street. We enjoyed our lunch! Service was quick and they cleared our plates promptly and packed our leftovers in a neat package.
A beautiful restaurant with very nice and friendly staffs. Their foods is very excellent and very tasty. I didn't have a chance to try their drinks. But we will be back very soon to try their Happy hours and lunch specials. Very nice place to celebrate birthday, anniversary and more. I think our server's name is Sean? He is very good and helpful. We will be back.
DINELA to try list: I finally visited Blue Magpie, Taiwanese modern fine dining, in Arcadia for Dine LA. The ambiance is a classy upscale modern. As soon as you walk in, the stunning wall of tea pots and sleek marble tables create such a gorgeous backdrop for photos. While the 45 dollar price tag is a bit of a splurge for lunch, the atmosphere makes it feel like a special treat. We enjoyed the Scallion Pork Taco and the Pineapple Lobster Salad Brioche, but the absolute best part was the Tea Smoked Duck Breast Salad. The duck was tender with a unique smoky flavor tea infused, that stole the spotlight. You also must try their drinks because they were fantastic! We finished with the silky Boba Tea Panna Cotta which was delightful. Service was wonderful and attentive. If you are looking for a fancy spot with great vibes to treat yourself, this is the place!
If you're looking for a quality spot with excellent service, this is the spot! I want to start off by saying the waiters were on top of their stuff the entire time. Not only were they fast, but very thoughtful and observant 10/10 service. Decor was nice. Personally I would replace the white light with warm light and lean in to the culture more by playing eastern music instead of western pop but that's just me. I had some extra time and got the pi pa gao cocktail which was a fun combo since the base is the Chinese herbal couch syrup Prices are on the higher end but justifiable with top notch ingredients and big portions. The Hakka style pork belly and salted pork jowl were our favorites. Def want to try the mala popcorn chicken, beef noodle soup, and lobster next time.
I actually thought most of their food were pretty solid but it's honestly way too pricey. They also give a fried burdock root in the beginning which I was personally addicted to (coated in salt and pepper ). I tried all the drinks (except one) and they were all pretty good. Personally liked the moonlight blossom the most because of osmanthus but all of them were all on the lighter end. Food wise, I personally like the pork belly rice the most. This might not be the same thought on everybody because it reminds me more of the canto style pork belly than the taiwanese style(love both btw). The cabbage which I thought was ok but personally loved the dried shrimps on it. The duck was pretty solid and I liked the skin and overall it wasn't dry. The mapo Lobster was ok for me. The Lobster itself was fresh but I'm not sure if that's the combination I want on my lobster BUT I do like how they already deshell it. The chicken appetizer was ok...I personally wouldn't get it.... I honestly thought the food and drinks were pretty good but the price range of this place is prob the hard no for me. It's good to come try it once but I personally can't imagine myself coming back solely on the price range. The service was definitely on the better end. They were all pretty friendly and always there to clean plates and even open door for customers.
I've been coming here since the soft opening! Dinner is best for groups of 4+ (ideally 6+) so you can share everything family-style, so I prefer the lunch menu since I'm usually a 2-3 people group. The cold noodles with peanuts are amazing in this SoCal heat. The staff is really attentive, and even the takeout containers feel high-end.
人生的無常， 說穿了就是悲歡離合， 過日子無非就是心理的話，有人聽著就是溫暖，鬱悶的事，有人懂你就是幸福，人這一輩子呀， 入眼的是風景，真正入心的才是 人生呀～ 介紹完便宜的美寶會， 今天來介紹在 Arcadia 也算是新開沒太久，蠻受歡迎的新店， 藍鵲，這家一進門看到別有風格的裝潢就知道，菜單應該不便宜，走的是台式fusion 菜色，我們去時是中午。中午大部分都是簡餐， 麵啊、飯呀為主， 看他們yelp , 晚上有 很多的菜色， 可惜中午不能點 ，我點的東坡飯， 很好吃， 鹹中帶甜，有適合台灣人的口味，台式香腸， 非常道地， 兩個很台的呆丸人都很喜歡， 最後花了20 分鐘才上來的三杯雞麵， 個人覺得沒有香味，也沒有發揮三杯雞應有的特色， 這道我不推薦，去的早，一開始只有兩桌， 12 點多後就全滿， 而且年輕人居多， 環境高雅， 有包廂， 很少吃台菜有這麼有格調的餐廳，很適合請客的地方， 服務也不錯，價格稍貴兩個人出門一百出頭，晚上的菜色很多，有興趣的自己來試試！
A newly opened restaurant with beautiful decor and ambiance. It's quiet and thoughtfully designed. The service is top notch while the menu is a bit limited that's still being developed - the cuisine is Taiwanese. The cod (entire fish), lobster and dragon whiskers (veggie dish) are my favorite. I have been trying to come here since they opened and was so excited when I was finally able to for Chinese New Year!!! It was not very busy compared to when I tried to go the first time, so we got pretty lucky. When we ordered the food, they gave good recommendations and we were overall very satisfied with our meal. Unfortunately, the most *expensive* item we ordered, the Tomohawk Steak, came out well done. When we ordered it initially, they didn't ask us how we wanted the steak cooked, so I just assumed that was the intended result. However, when I asked the server, they told me it should be Medium Rare. Fortunately, the kind staff was kind enough to comp the item and so it was removed from the bill. Overall, the staff was great and *most* of the food came out delicious, but I have to dock one star for overcooking their most expensive item and still sending it out to the table. If you are an upscale restaurant, that should never happen. read more
To celebrate our one year anniversary with my wife, we were looking for something super fancy in the Arcadia area! We came across this gem, their mid autumn menu is 14 course of flavorful Taiwanese food! This course is highly recommended their steamed egg custard with seafood extremely tasteful and egg is extremely fluffy and sweet! This course has a lot of highlight and most importantly it's filling! It was a lot of food for its price! And we had to pack to go! Parking is at the back of the restaurant. Their bar is awesome too. The food quality is amazing and on the edge of decadent. There were many exotic cars in the parking lot, which is indicative of expensive cuisine and small portions. Well, I was half right, as serving size was decent and much left over to take home. I must admit the cost is rather high, but considering the quality, justifiable. It is something special to bring a special person, and share some delicious dishes not available at other Asian restaurants. read more

We came to Blue Magpie for a birthday celebration. It was our first time visiting after getting the recommendation from our Taiwanese friends. It's a fancy creative Taiwanese cuisine. It aims to elevate some of the traditional Taiwanese dishes into a fine dining restaurant. I absolutely enjoyed our visit! The restaurant is gorgeously decorated. Elegant and modern. The service was also fine dining level, absolutely perfect! For a group of 6, we sat at a long table and had several waiters helping us! We started the night with the bubbly oolong tea. Perfect for the birthday celebration! They even served the tea in tall champagne classes! We, of course, did the family style dinner. Sharing all the best dishes is the way to go! All 6 dishes were excellent! The tea smoked duck was great! I wish the portion can be bigger. The fermented rice short rib and salted pork jowl were both great as well. My personal favorite of the night was the salted egg squid! It's not easy to find such unique dish and done well. Overall, I am so proud to see the restaurant takes the effort to make fine dining Taiwanese food! We will be back again! read more
Taiwanese fine dining. Prices are very steep. The restaurant itself is small, but beautiful. Their bar is definitely stunning. I really liked their veggie dishes (dragon whisker, pea shoots). The sesame oil chicken rice was not worth it, I've had better for cheaper in TW. The salted pork jowl and fermented rice short ribs were pretty good. They also include a burdock root appetizer. Had an exceptional lunch this weekend. Been metro try this place out and glad I did. Very impress with the interior and decor. They have a $20 lunch special and we opted there add on item. Service were excellent and very tentative. Come back again for dinner. read more
Unique Taiwanese fusion menu that leans on the rich side of flavors that seems popular with Chinese/ Taiwanese locals. Menu isn't particularly descriptive so you wouldn't know that the Lobster Crisp sandwich is deep fried like a Monte cristo or that the Steak & Eggs has a little heat. This was recommended by my friend in Arcadia. We made reservations today. Came in. Services was good. Nice and clean deco. Has a very nice bar. But no TV. Not sure why ? It's Sunday. We ordered four dishes. Beef noodle was great. The steak and egg was good. But the avocado salad was below my expectations. It's more like guacamole on the top with some fried tofu. The sandwich we ordered was not exactly we were expecting. It's say in Chinese 胡椒餅。which is a famous Taiwan street food. But it came out just some fatty sliced beef with some chips. Not like it. I normally has very tolerable criticism. But this sandwich was disappointing. Over all I gave a three starts. I'm an old school foodie , If you looking for the authentic Taiwanese food. Great modern fusion twist on Taiwanese food, plus a tad bougie vibes without breaking the bank. Overall a solid experience. We came for brunch and the Tainan noodles and San Bei Noodles were both flavorful. The meat bits in the Tainan noodles did get quite salty towards the end so I think the San Bei noodles were a tad better although mild spicy. Definitely will consider stopping for dinner next time. read more
Living in Arcadia with lots of Taiwanese people, I was wondering when they were going to open a place that reminds me of home and flavors I would only get in Taiwan. I finally found that place in Blue Magpie, but with an elevated twist. They just recently opened in mid June, 2025. As soon as you walk in, you are warmly greeted at the door and you can see the beautiful decor that pays homage to Taiwan. We quickly sat down at one of their cozy booth and were given their brunch menu. We ordered their: Beef Sacha Orzo San Bei Chicken Noodles Century Noodles Tea Egg Sandwich Fried Chicken Sandwich Blue Magpie Milk Tea Each dish has a unique taste and reminded me of the flavors I had when I grew up or visited Taiwan. The Beef Sacha Orzo had a wonderful satay flavor and San Bei Chicken Noodles was delicious, but may need a little more basil flavor to it. Their Tea Egg Sandwich was light and the Fried Chicken Sandwich will remind you of those giant chicken steak you get in Taiwan or the flavor of a good popcorn chicken in a sandwich. The pickled cucumber in the sandwich gave it an additional crunch and acidity to cut the heaviness of the fried chicken. We loved that each of the sandwiches came with crispy burdock root chips. Our favorite was the Century Noodles. I was a bit caught off guard since my BF doesn't like Century egg, and he said it was his favorite dish. It's probably because of the chewy and bounciness of the noodles and the peanuts, sesame sauce, and truffle chicken that made it taste so good. We finished the meal with a glass of their Blue Magpie Milk Tea that was rich in tea flavor yet light as well that you won't find in boba shops. We didn't get to try their steak and eggs in a sizzle stone dish, but I took the picture of it from a neighboring table and will definitely have to be back to try that and their dinner menu. All in all, Blue Magpie lived up to its name and mission, where they celebrate the rich culinary heritage of Taiwan through traditional flavors and elevating it with refined techniques, thoughtful presentation, and premium ingredients. They are still working on the timing of their dishes because there was a little bit of a wait in between the dishes, but their excellent service and food make up for it. Can't wait to come back to try other dishes that make me reminisce and miss home. read more

Excellent customer service by Manager Jaylen and staff today. They have lunch specials and plenty of parking space. Love the interior decor, great place to hang out for drinks, private rooms as well. The bar is also nicely set up. Good clean Taiwanese food!! read more

We tried Blue Magpie and left feeling pretty disappointed. We spent $180 for: * Sausage - $28 * Morning Glory Stir Fry - $22 * Claypot Shrimp - $66 * Scallop and Bean Sprouts - $45 * Rice - $2 While the presentation was nice, the portions were small, and the food didn't feel worth the high prices. Sadly, my stomach was upset afterward too. Overall, it felt overpriced for what we got. Wouldn't return. read more
Blue Magpie is tucked away in the corner of a pretty busy and lively street in Arcadia. The parking around the back isn't the best but it's close and convenient. Service is pretty quick and my water glass was never empty for long, but I can't help but feel like the water glasses need to be a bit larger. Portion sizes were all fair for the price. The Lobster Crisp Sandwich was a bit of a letdown. It looks amazing and had a satisfying crunch, but the lobster had too much mayonnaise. Steak and eggs were solid, a bit salty for my taste but the table enjoyed it. Cold noodles were a bit bland. read more

When I first came to LA, Taiwanese food was everywhere, but mostly small casual eateries. Now they're much rarer. I had long heard about this new restaurant rooted in Taiwanese flavors with a creative twist, but always felt it was too far. Then I saw their special Mid-Autumn Festival tasting menu and finally went! The restaurant is stunning and packed--reservations highly recommended. Many guests were speaking Taiwanese, and I also noticed families gathering in their gorgeous private rooms. My husband said this is exactly the kind of Taiwanese restaurant LA needs: a place where people can come together for holidays, enjoy a refined environment, and still taste authentic flavors. Perfect for business dinners or date nights. Although the Mid-Autumn menu was listed as 14 courses, each section actually included multiple dishes--felt like I had dozens! I was so full; definitely eat light beforehand. A few standouts for me: * Tea-Smoked Duck Breast & Scallop Aiyu Jelly - a creative pairing of Taiwanese street snack and premium ingredients, smoky yet refreshing. * Seafood Steamed Egg with Truffle - silky, creamy, and bursting with flavor. Highly recommend! * Yakitori Skewers - surprising to see so many in one tasting menu. They were grilled over fruitwood charcoal, incredibly aromatic. * Shaoxing Cream Lobster - the sauce was divine, especially mixed with butter rice. Desserts were also lovely, each carrying a sense of Eastern festivity. The bar area is worth a visit too--the backdrop painting has a refined Oriental elegance, and the bartender (who reminded me of actress Wan Peng) was stunning and chic. I tried a fruit tea and a Long Island Taro Milk, but next time I'll go for their quirky popcorn cocktail. What's special about this place is how traditional Taiwanese snacks are elevated with creative presentation, yet the flavors stay authentic. Even older generations would feel right at home. read more

After all the hype on social media - I was excited to give this place a try. It took over an old American diner and Arcadia needs an upscale fine dining establishment. Decor - 7/10 Since it's new everything is nice and new. The small details in their cutlery, plates, etc are all spectacular! Loved the light fixtures and cleanliness of everything. Service - 10/10 Eric is awesome! He is so helpful and personable. Another gent with glasses was amazing and he was our main server all night. All of the staff members were attentive, quick with service and handling requests and provided professionalism. Drinks - 2/10 I ordered some drink with the name Fizz and it took so long to make. I was waiting at the bar before my friend arrived and was hoping to get a drink in while waiting but the service was so slow at the bar (was not even crowded) and my drink took long because I was told it needed to "sit" and I have no idea what that means. Drink came out and tasted like cotton candy. Not a great way to spend $18. Food - 5/10 Now this is why we came, right? After reading all these blogs and posts on social media, we were most excited to try all the dishes. And oh boy did it fall flat. We ordered a little of everything and the dishes were either bland and lacked flavor or over salted and caused us to drink so much water. The best dish was the cabbage. At first I was hesitant for $26 for a plate of cabbage but it ended up being the best dish, so good out group ordered 2! The crab dish that seems to be their highlight was overpriced. Rice was hard and sticky - like the Vietnamese sticky rice and I don't think they used an entire crab like the presentation suggests. The short ribs dish was like beef jerky, so tough. The clams had an interesting flavor, I enjoyed this but it's a tomato broth so it's light in flavor but it helped balance out the salty dishes. The salted branzino - looked so good coming and how it was presented. Some parts of the fish were extremely salty and some were ok. Very inconsistent! Overall - my group was happy to try it because we all wanted to check this place out! But we all agreed we would not be doing back anytime soon nor would we be recommending this to anyone. Arcadia and the greater San Gabriel Valley have long been hungry for a new chapter in Chinese dining. Something more refined than Din Tai Fung, more modern than Bistro Na. The niche was waiting, wide open. Into that promise stepped BlueMagpie. Opened June 11, 2025 by Chef Leo Lo and entrepreneur Kevin Tang, it stands across from Santa Anita Park as if to declare that Arcadia, too, deserves a seat at the table of ambition. To enter is to step into a dream of glass and porcelain that could easily be the set of a K-Pop music video. Chandeliers scatter light across bird-patterned tiles. Two private rooms whisper of exclusivity. The main hall hums with elegance and confidence. The décor dazzles. The staff move with warmth and precision. For a moment, the illusion holds. Then the food arrives. The meat is tough, beaten down by its own marinade. The fish turns out gummy, more silicone than sea. A stage this polished, a vision this careful, a team this attentive--all of it dissolves against the plate. The cooking is not just a disappointment. It is an abomination that mocks the beauty surrounding it. With ambition set at Beverly Hills levels and prices to match, the food needed to soar. Instead it collapses under its own gilded weight, like Ace of Spades champagne, glitzy on the outside yet hollow within. No chandelier shines bright enough, no service smooth enough, to mask that truth. What a weird and unwelcoming experience. They close at 11pm. Arrived at 10:05pm Doors were locked. I pulled quite hard thinking it would be open. Everyone inside stared at me because of the ruckus but no response and everyone inside went about their business. So maybe it's one of those cool spots you need to be invited. It's also on the one way part of Huntington Dr so it's kinda hard to get to. They should really put up signs for private event or soft opening or that they don't let people in past 10pm. Commercial businesses should not lock the doors for fire safety. I don't think the doors were the push to unlock from the inside. I really wanted to try the place but left feeling confused. read more

I really love the decor and ambiance of Blue Magpie. It's an upscale restaurant with amazing food and service. They put so much thought and effort into every little detail. From the interior to the take out containers, everything has been carefully thought out. Since this was our first time here, we wanted to try a little bit of everything. We had the duck, chicken soup, popcorn chicken, steak, Taiwanese sausage, morning glory, and chicken. The food was not only delicious, but beautifully presented. One word: lackluster. My partner ended up choosing this restaurant without reviewing the menu or scoping it out beforehand. We decided to try it anyway and I was kind of disappointed. Parking was easy as there's a lot and street parking. The front of the restaurant had reflective windows so I thought that was a bit odd and uninviting. The restaurant had a more upscale vibe but the food itself didn't really live up to expectations, especially not for its price tag. We ordered the sesame oil chicken rice. We couldn't really taste any sesame oil since it was so heavy on the ginger / white pepper taste. The chicken didn't seem to have much skin on it, and it lacked flavor. It was okay. We also ordered the hakka style pork belly, it was good for what it was flavor wise. It was just also heavy on the white pepper as well and kind of greasy. They gave us take out boxes for our leftovers and since the dishes were so oily the boxes soaked up in oil and kind of disintegrated. Overall, I don't want to say the food is bad because it wasn't. But it is definitely not worth what we paid. The service was okay, sometimes the servers would be attentive and sometimes they would need to be flagged down. It wasn't that busy so i'm not sure what was happening. The concept of the restaurant is supposed to be upscale modern but it didn't really feel that way. The decor clashes and it just gives a cold vibe. Prices are expensive so I just expected more. read more

Blue Magpie, I'm still thinking about it days after stepping foot inside. The space has a warm, modern vibe...make sure you look closely..every little detail so thoughtfully curated and custom handcrafted. The nostalgic fusion dishes brought back the best memories of Taiwan! We went for brunch and started with a very special Taiwanese Imported sparkling tea and their house made milk tea... both were so refreshing and worth coming back for on their own. Maybe open a teahouse with just those drinks please? :) The Tofu Avocado Salad is their Asian twist on a Caesar -- so good we had to order another one...with taro as the croutons???! You got me at Taro. The Fried Chicken Sandwich...just imagine..the best popcorn chicken you've ever had made into the perfect sandwich. Tender juicy chicken with the perfect crunch in every bite. We tried a couple noodle dishes as well which were nice flavorful options capturing the best parts of Taiwanese dining. The chefs clearly understand the culture, elevating traditional flavors while still keeping it familiar. Everyone there welcomed us and made us feel at home. For the dishes we shared, the servers even helped to plate the food table side!! They were very attentive and sweet. Other awesome highlights.. Bilingual Staff! Cutest take out baggy The burdock root they serve upon seating is addicting, try not to fill up on it. 2 Beautiful private dining rooms! You know, I was thinking about going back home to Taiwan, but...now I can just go back to Blue Magpie. Stopped by Blue Magpie for drinks and lucked out with the best seat in the house: the bar. My server Erick was funny, attentive, and made sure my water was never more than three sips from full. Amor was behind the bar and I suspect she may be a mixology magician. I gave her a few custom drink requests and she turned them into absolute masterpieces. Every cocktail was unique, balanced, and somehow better than the last. The ambience was slightly on the brighter side. With a dimmer setting, it could really set the mood. That said, the overall experience was excellent. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Ask for Amor and thank me later. Blue Magpie is not there, yet but has potential. We ordered 5 dishes. The Good: Complimentary fried gobo at the beginning of the meal with refills is nice. Braised pork belly rice was excellent. Large portion with 6 eggs and lots of tasty tender pork cooked perfectly. Excellent flavor and not overly salty. Our favorite dish of the night. Steamed seabass was also excellent. Servers were all very nice and speak a combination of English, Cantonese and Mandarin. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and plates and utensils are very fine. The Bad: Stir fried morning glory dish was overly sweet. Very odd. Beef short ribs had great flavor but overcooked and dry. The fried squid with salted egg yolk was terrible. So overcooked it was like chewing leather. We should have sent it back! The first two dishes arrived fairly quickly. But it took another 30 minutes before other dishes arrived. It was not a full house. A friend at another table waited 40 minutes for their food! Guess we were lucky to sit there half full between dishes. Although servers were nice, service was inconsistent. When the steamed fish arrived , they didn't debone it until we asked them to! And serving utensils didn't arrive at the same time. We sat there looking at the food while the server went to the back to get the utensils. (Utensils should arrive first before the dish comes out or at the same time.) For a restaurant that calls itself fine dining, these little things are a big miss. In the middle of our meal we noticed that the server at another table was portioning the pork belly rice to little bowls and serving it to each guest. They just left a stack of bowls at our table for self serve. No consistency of service. Please know how you want your staff to serve and train them. Staff is attentive and nice so I think it's on management. The Ugly: No dessert. Nothing. Server told us they took dessert off the menu because no one was ordering. (You opened for one week.) Suggestion: Offer complimentary green/red bean dessert soup. It's simple and not costly for you. And it'll make your guests forget that you don't have a dessert menu. I had such an amazing time last night trying their tasting menu and it honestly blew me away. The steamed egg with truffle was next level umami, so silky and earthy. The skewers were perfectly grilled and felt like such a thoughtful nod to the mid-autumn festival tradition. That oyster? So bomb! Briny, fresh and topped just right. The scallop dish was Michelin level for sure! And don't get get me started on the desserts! I love this Arcadia gem! read more

An elevated Taiwanese dining experience, with meals that would make you remember your grandmothers cooking with a modern twist. The sparkling tea felt was bubbly and refreshing. The caramelized condense milk tea with orange zest was not too sweet and delicious. The sandwich that stole the show was the fried chicken sando. Think juicy tender popcorn chicken that's fried to perfection. Century Egg Noodle was a nostalgic dish for me. And the cold noodle with truffle chicken was the perfect summer dish. There are two private rooms that you can reserve for larger partied and gatherings. If you're looking to impress your Taiwanese family, highly recommend Blue Magpie. dinela is what brought us in, but now that we know, we will be back. everything was delightful. the dining room is decorated beautifully, the food is delicious and the presentation is on point. there were a couple strange looks from the staff wondering why a white person was in their store(lol) but not an issue. sorry, i have no idea why that dictated in all caps. we went at lunchtime without a reservation, and because the dining room is small i would probably suggest making a reservation for dinner time. lovely location in arcadia near the racetrack. the space obviously used to be something else, i'm not sure what, but whatever it was they have transformed it. read more

This restaurant is beautiful! Absolutely stunning job on the remodel. You can tell there was a lot of thought and effort put into every aspect of the restaurant. The staff was great and attentive. They were great with my two kids and made sure we were all taken care of. They also have top of the line high chairs! I've gone for lunch and dinner, and enjoy the menus for both! The food is creative and expertly executed. I would recommend the Mala Popcorn Chicken and Napa Casserole! Their cocktails are top notch as well! Can't wait for my next visit. read more
