Honestly, so surprised to find a restaurant like this in the middle of Alhambra. Yang's Kitchen is a scratch kitchen that focuses on locally sourced, organic ingredients and sustainability. You can definitely taste the difference in the quality of food. For appetizer, we really enjoyed the Chicken Liver Mousse. The house-made seasonal jam is so good (we just had strawberry) and pairs really well with the mousse. For brunch, we got the Grass-fed Hangar Steak Breakfast Plate which is an elevated version of your typical breakfast staples. Amazing flavor and they cook the steak perfectly every time. We also tried one of their seasonal desserts and it is a must-have. I forgot the name, but it was a melon sorbet paired with fresh mangoes, coconut milk, and sago. Super unique and refreshing. Highly recommend this place if you are looking for an upscale restaurant with a casual feel. Service is amazing, especially if you have Kai. Finally got to check Yang's Kitchen off my brunch list! The restaurant serves Asian fusion cuisine with fresh/locally-sourced ingredients in a bright and welcoming space. They don't take reservations for brunch, but they have a Yelp waitlist you can join ahead of time. There was only around a 15 min wait for us when we went on a Sunday for brunch. Service was friendly and attentive, and the dishes we tried were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared. - Cold sesame noodles - so yummy and flavorful! The sesame sauce was so good and nutty and the chili crisp added a nice extra kick. A big portion size so great for sharing too - Breakfast plate - comes with your choice of protein, so we got the grass-fed hanger steak. I love their take on the hash brown - it was hearty and thick with a delightfully crispy exterior - Cornmeal mochi pancake - was so excited to try this one! Loved the mochi texture with the cornmeal flavor, and it was not overly sweet or heavy. Very sharable! I've been here before, but was told by my friend who comes here frequently because it's one of her favorite places that I had just ordered the wrong things. Wow, this might be my favorite bite of the year. I fell in love with literally everything here. My two favorite dishes were the steak and eggs and the cornmeal mochi pancake. I don't usually get scrambled eggs, but this was so velvety and soft, it was heaven sent. the steak was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The pancake was also very pillowy and had an amazing chewy to it. No syrup is needed. Also, didn't leave here without mentioning the hash brown. it was also amazing, get one if you can! All outdoor tables were rotatingly occupied with people with doggy, so much doggy love in dt Alhambra! The staffs were nice and friendly. I'll be honest, this place didn't look that amazing from the photos but I'm so glad I gave it a try. It is a fusion restaurant between Asian and American breakfast and brunch, although it felt more Asian Italian fusion. We ordered: Cold crab noodles - it is cold but despite that, it has amazing flavor Dan dan noodles - 10/10 very flavorful. I love the el dente noodles and the peanut sauce was thick and coated the noodles well Pork jowl cha siu - 8/10 the sauce was delicious but a bit on the slaty side so went well with our cold crab noodles. The meat was very very tender and so good, but I just wished that half of it hadn't been fat. Secret potatoes - 10/10 very delicious. Highly recommend this as part of your order. The wait wasn't too bad, I was able to join the waitlist before leaving the house, cutting my wait time down to 25mins when I arrived. I ordered the Breakfast Plate with the Grass-fed Hanger Steak as protein and a Yang's Set Meal with the Yuzu Miso Salmon. Both were mediocre, considering the price. Understandably, everything is sourced locally, but flavor wise didn't meet my expectations. Service: We joined the waitlist remotely and was given a 70-110 minute wait estimate. We ran some errands while waiting and I missed the text that our table was almost ready. Once I caught it I called them to let them know I missed the message and that we're still interested in dining. They were extremely accommodating and made sure we had a table when we arrived. It was not the food I expected - a lot of it isn't all that Asian, but all of it is delicious! The Chicken Liver Mousse is rich and fatty, meant to be lavishly smeared. Yang's Fried Chicken Wings are simple...and simply irresistible. Most people who don't like salmon have never had good salmon, and I think the Salmon & Ikura Bowl could make anyone like salmon. There's also a Breakfast Plate with all the basics for those who just want that. The super-crispy hash brown cake is the best part, and the hanger steak is perfection. Yang's is such a great place for a fancy lunch or date night! They have free parking and it's shared with the other neighboring businesses. They are a popular place so I do recommend making reservations in advance. Staff were very informative and attentive. This place serves some dope food. The wings are whole and taste just like your classic Cantonese Chinese style fried chicken, but so much cleaner. You can't go wrong with the sesame toast, and did I mention the cornmeal pancake? While it's not worth an $18 price tag, it is dang tasty. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Yang's kitchen! We ordered the steelhead belly tartar, braised duck leg with taro and the Hainan fish rice! All of these dishes tasted amazing. Our personal favorite was the Hainan fish rice; it's a must order. The rice and fish were buttery and flavorful. The ginger scallions sauce added another dimension to it and the pickled cucumbers that came with it were well marinated. The braised duck leg with taro was also pretty good! The taro was interesting, it reminded me of mashed potatoes with gravy. The duck was tender but tasted more like a chicken leg, but also didn't taste gamey either. The steelhead belly fish tartar was delicious! It's honestly such a small appetizer but the steelhead belly was fatty and blended well with the rice cracker. Service was excellent. The servers there were attentive and made sure that we always had our glasses refilled and that we received new plates. The restaurant is on the smaller end, with limited seating so I envision it gets pretty packed during peak dining hours. Before we get started, the picture you see below is worth $24. That's 5 pieces of fish, with some ginger sauce that is COMMONLY added on Hainan chicken rice, but just added on fish. It's also pre-prepped, left in the fridge. If this is what you're looking for, congrats you found the spot. Now, that you've saw the picture, lets share my experience with my family here. Previously, my mom wrote a yelp review, and it got ignored, and we specifically talked about the absolute terrible service that many others agree on. Half a year later, we come back to try again, hoping that it would be better, and we concluded that this will be our final time going. The main problem was that we ordered that fish dish, as it was considered a "special" on the menu, so we would assume that it would be good for a lunch. Go and read the caption under the dish name. If you can't see it online, let's just summarize it, it's Hiramasa from some company, covered with some green onions and the ginger sauce. When we got the dish, we complained to another server, saying that it was their responsibility to tell us what was on the dish, because if they knew, they would let us know that it wouldn't be enough for a lunch, NOT TO MENTION IT WAS $24. My dad did raise his voice, which is important to remember later on. But I stand by it, since we have the right to be angry, if we're getting ripped off. You're ripping us off. Whatever, we got a refund, great. We got our other dishes, and until we got the check, everything was fine. The manager came along, gave us the check and straight up let us know we are not allowed to come back. Didn't even let us explain, and decides that we're in the wrong. We asked why not, and he STATED we attacked the server, and cursed at him. So without any hesitation, we argued. 1. We never attacked, physically attacked, Cursed, let alone even stand up to talk to them. We stayed sat down, we did raise our voices, which sure, caused some concern, but the point is, they lied. I'm so confident that they wouldn't DARE check their cameras to try and argue with me. 2. We called the police, because he wouldn't admit that he just straight up lied saying that. They think we won't do it, but we did. 3. We argued that the dish wasn't worth it, and it was the server's responsibility to let us know that it wouldn't be enough for one person. Unfortunately, we had to be the ones to let him know that he wasn't doing his job right, and sadly enough, we can see that the manager did not train the servants correctly. His only argument back was that my father raised our voice, and even TOLD MY MOM TO GROW UP. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE TELLING YOUR ELDERS TO GROW UP. If anything, the manager believes anything someone says and lies to protect that. Genuinely pathetic. We raised out voice because its crazy to just rip of customers like that. For 5 pieces of fish with green onions. 4. So if the server did her job properly, none of this would have happened. He acknowledges this, but doesn't apologize, and the server behind acts like he doesn't' know what he said just escalated the situation. (The girl who took our order never checked on us, so we told another guy server, and he told the manager. Not sure why the girl hasn't been fired yet, but she genuinely looks like she doesn't know how to do her job.) 5. The reason we emphasize the word "attack" is because they are accusing of attacking, rather using the word "impolite" which would have been a better term to use. You're giving us the idea that we are being discriminated as we never had any servers check on us and we felt absolutely no respect as customers. They're looking down on us thinking that we wouldn't understand and thinking they can say that we "attacked" them even though we never even stood or said anything about the customer. Customer service includes figuring out both sides on what's going on and how to solve this, however, the manager originally shut us down by not letting us speak until we went up to him. He never tries to come and solve the issue, but basically lets us know we aren't welcome back. He doesn't show any qualifications of being a competent manager. They decided to "kindly" let us come back, but to make sure to not cause a scene, and okay, I said I want better service. So train them properly IF we ever decide to come back. We paid, an officer even came to check on us. We told him the whole situation, he went in to check, and we explained that they straight up lied to us. And he said that they wouldn't dare do anything because they have cameras recording the whole thing. The point is, the service is bad, and the manager won't admit the server's fault. Food might be decent, but crazy small portions, and I cannot LET ANYONE GET RIPPED OFF, LET ALONE COME HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. read more

My family made a dinner reservation for Valentine's Day; we were very excited to try Yang's as we've heard so much about it! We were sat shortly after we checked in and they accommodated our 4yo with softer tableware. The ambiance of the dining room was so cozy and romantic, with really good music at the perfect volume. Our server was very kind and they recommended 3-4 dishes for the three of us. My fiancé ordered a beer (HPB Timbo Pils). For our meal, we ordered the market salad with the nuts on the side to start, secret potatoes, fried chicken wings, and claypot mussels. We also got a side of pickles. Everything was made and cooked well, but there was something about the level of flavor that was severely lacking. The secret potatoes with chili crisp had great texture, along with the fried chicken wings, but the wings were just crispy and juicy. Even with the accoutrements of salt, pepper, and lemon juice, they were just very well-fried chicken wings. The salad was fine, the avocado, watermelon radish, and greens were crisp but the vinaigrette was barely there. The claypot mussels were also very good, but just didn't have a satisfying flavor. I hate to say that we weren't satisfied, but unfortunately we were just that. Maybe we didn't order the right dishes? We absolutely love this restaurant, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review! We've been regulars here for years, and it has become such a special place for our family. The staff are truly amazing always warm, welcoming, and genuinely friendly. You can tell they enjoy working here!! One thing we especially appreciate as parents is the Yelp waitlist feature. Being able to join the waitlist online makes such a difference when you have a baby or toddler and helps minimize wait time at the restaurant. This is actually our 5-year-old daughter's favorite restaurant too! It's the only place where she'll happily hand out her favorite stickers to the staff That alone says a lot about how special this place is to our family. As for the food, hash is an absolute must-order, super crispy but not too oily! My go-to dish is the hanger steak cooked medium rare, and it is cooked perfectly EVERY time. We were seated outside near the street, so we missed out on some of that ambiance, but it was still pleasant. 1. Pork Jowl Cha Siu- a mix of lean and fatty tender barbequed pork, served with hot mustard sauce on the side. It was good, but not overly unique or extraordinary as an appetizer. Portion size was a bit smaller than expected. 2. 'Hainan' Fish Rice- a creative twist on the classic Hainan chicken rice, but with dry-aged sea bass instead of chicken. Btw I came here in October!! * Dry Aged Hiramasa (7.5/10) - Absolutely insane texture, like it melted in my mouth. The ginger-scallion sauce was flavorful, but leaned a bit too oily/greasy for my liking, which distracted from the fish. * Cold Crab Noodles (8/10) - Sweet, generous chunks of crab and a really satisfying bite. Again, a touch heavy on the shallot oil, but the crispy shallot garnish added great crunch. Cute little brunch and dinner spot in downtown Alhambra. Gets busy on weekend and closes around 4pm. I would join yelp waitlist if you can. I would get the breakfast plate options. All three were good. My favorite one is the american breakfast plate. Mochi pancakes was delicious as well and a huge portion to share. The drinks are refreshing. Get the mimosa kit. Worth it. We came for the smoked fish dip! I can eat two servings of these. It's so scrumptious! However, since it was still breakfast time, we also ordered breakfast. Ordered Doordash and got my order in less than an hour Got The Yang's Set Meal with Grass-Fed Hanger Steak ($30.80) and it came with multi grain rice, omiso soup, seasonal side, pickled veggies, and an egg. The steak was pretty tender and good but wish it came with more than just a few slices! The omiso soup was too salty and was definitely not enjoyable. The egg was very soft and flavorful so I really enjoyed that. Overall, it was decent but definitely not worth the price so this was 7/10 Strawberry Amazake Smoothie ($8) was good but I wish it was bigger since $8 for 10 oz is quite pricey! We went in for a brunch menu and it exceeded our expectations! I didn't think much of it as brunch menu can be mid, in my opinion. But we had the smoked salmon hash, smoked fish dip, david's arroz caldo and cold sesame noodles with a bottle of orange wine as they have a happy hour drink menu. Our favorite was surprisngly the smoked fish dip as it retained its smokiness quite well and the toast from bub's grandma (i love that place). All dishes are very healthy, fresh and delicious as they are farm to table, but on a rather pricer side. But I think good, clean food makes it worthwhile. Their chicken thigh and hangar steak set meals were delicious!! The meat was tender, juicy, and perfectly flavored, paired well with the side dishes, and portion size felt just right. Left feeling healthy and content. However, took off 1 star for priciness and service. The wait staff were really hard to call over as they mostly stayed at the counter and avoided eye contact. Our waitress, in particular, also made an effort to serve and do everything first for the next table of regulars, even though my party arrived first, so my service ended up being pretty slow. Small seating area inside that was pretty comfortable and some tables outside. There is a free parking lot behind the restaurant and I often do free 4-hr parking at First Street Garage. This is an Asian fusion restaurant. The place is quite small. My group had to sit outside on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant. This seating area is not the most pleasant or enjoyable. We ordered the following dishes: (1) cold sesame noodles (2) chicken liver mousse (3) set meal with steelhead (4) set meal with Barramundi (5) set meal with chicken The set meals come with soup, half a soy egg, seasonal vegetables and multi-grain rice. All the dishes were delicious but the portions were small. Prices are quite high for the portions they serve. I am giving this place 5 stars for the food; 3 stars for the environment (seating); 3 stars for the price and service. Taiwanese fusion always catches my eye. A cute and cozy brunch spot and there are some unique dishes here. This place was buzzing on Saturday for brunch and every plate coming out of the kitchen looked like a work of art. Unfortunately, the taste was just okay for our group. Everything tastes healthy and clean and we didn't fell too stuffed after so that is a pro. Got the oolong fresca which was Joimo oolong tea, lemongrass, lime, with mint and it was pretty good, definitely a bit steep for $9 though. The portions on some dishes was questionable too like the Yang's set meal with dry-aged steelhead for $33 was not it. It was the smallest piece of fish I've ever seen. The chicken wings were a little bland but they do serve them with a lemon and some salt and pepper so you can season it yourself. Everyone was so kind and explained the wine/food menu to us well. There was also an in house sommelier that can help you narrow down what kind of wine you want to drink! Cute brunch spot on Main St in Alhambra! Decided to eat here with a friend after our workout and we loved the aesthetic of the inside. I ordered a cold brew and my friend ordered the oolong Fresca. The Fresca was so good!! Definitely worth a try. We shared the smoked salmon hash and cold sesame noodles with chicken. Both dishes were really good! I would order both again. They both have very good flavors, the hash was crispy and the noodles a little spicy. The staff are all really nice and the food tasty. I resonate with "Yang" so I had to come check out "Yang's Kitchen". I read some great reviews. One item that stood out was the Yang's fried chicken wings so I got an order of it. I wanted to get something else and ended up with some pickled veggies. I placed my order over the phone. The lady I spoke with was pleasant. My order was ready upon arrival. I walked in, grabbed my order, and walked out. They were very busy inside (adequate seating) and outside (limited seating). Chicken wings were very good. Skin was lightly crispy. Meat was moist. Good size wings. I would definitely get the wings again. As for the pickled veggies, they were okay. I felt they had too much vinegar taste. I'll pass on the pickled vinegar next time. If I'm in the Alhambra area again, I would like to return and try some of their other popular dishes. Btw, free parking is available at Mosaic parking structure a few blocks away. read more
