So at a recent Yelp event, one of our table mates told us about this great sushi restaurant in Carrollton called Blue Maki. We decided to visit immediately. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The dining room was bright, white, clean and open and their huge bar was in the middle.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was immediately greeted by the hostess who sat me down and gave suggestions. I started with the Japanese Highball cocktail which had flavors of yuzu and lychee mixed with Japanese whiskey and topped with Topo Chico...Best drink I've had in a LONGGGGG time. My appetizer was the kaarage chicken. It was good, the pieces were crispy but they were also huge. I'm used to karaage being bite sized but I had to take bites out of this huge chicken lol. I ordered two hand rolls, Rainforest Roll and the Wagyu Roll. The rainforest roll had flavor of fresh tuna, topped with a tempura shrimp. Amazing! The Wagyu roll was good but it was very simple and to the point. Not a burst of flavors in every bite. Literally just meat and rice. My friend and I stopped by for lunch for some highly recommended hand rolls and it was everything we expected and so much more! Our favorite hand roll place changed their business and we were so bummed. I just so happened to look-up "hand roll" today hoping to find something similar and came across this review. We were in early so the place was near empty, so it felt like we had the place to ourselves. As we were leaving the crowd was coming in. We loved the decor, very fresh, clean and inviting Our waiter with the fresh fade was really friendly and provided top tier service, he also made great drinks. For like $40+.....that was very disappointing. The wrapping is very smart...but in order to figure it out you have to destroy the first one you eat bc the directions are covered by the food. Takoyaki balls did not come with bonito flakes. I was SHOOK. The fried chicken bits were so dry and over cooked. And then...the very best part---a short while later....I'm trying to go to bed, I get severe pain in my stomach and...let's just say, I got to spend a lot of time in my bathroom. Follow a dfw food blogger, and she recommends this sushi lounge place. It was a late night craving, and they were still open, so I decided to go to Carrollton and grab a bite. The inside was very nicely decorated and clean. They have nice lighting, and I love the sushi bar area where you can see the chef does all the yummy magic delicacy! My server was very sweet! She's quick and attentive. I asked her about some popular handroll, and she recommends some of her favorite ones. I got 6 varieties. All were nicely wrapped in a plastic cover to keep the sushi wrap crunchy and fresh. You just pull the plastic wrap at the end, and it won't mess up the topping. Very cool and smart idea!! I also got the crudo samplers of different sashimi. Very fresh and yummy! They have my all-time favorite torch salmon belly! That was super delicious and lucky. I ordered 8 pieces to satisfy my tummy before the night end. It was very awesome food, and the service was top-notch! Will come back next time and try out more delicious dishes. Highly recommended! I find that I keep coming back to this spot when I want to treat myself. The sushi here is always so good, it's worth the price every time. They've made some changes since the last time I came, updating the menu and ditching the plastic water bottles in exchange for glasses. Their new menu doesn't have descriptions of the handrolls, so I recommend looking up the menu on Yelp in advance if you're a chicken like me and too shy to ask the staff yourself haha. Finally visited after seeing all the posts on social media. The variety of hand rolls was impressive, offering a perfect balance of flavors and stuffed to the brim. My favorite was the blue fish and negi toro. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the presentation was top-notch. The ambiance was nice and the staff were attentive and friendly. So fresh! We ordered 3 regular + 2 premium hand rolls and a toro roll. They were all delicious! Thanks to Chef for also giving us a complimentary salmon torched sashimi! Everything was good! The place is very clean and nice looking. As my fiancé and I were walking in, we were welcomed by the staff. The server was very nice and gave us some recommendations. They are well known for their hand rolls. We were given water bottles with their logo on it. I thought that was really nice! Once the hand rolls we ordered came out, everyone single one of them was really good! I love the concept of the plastic being on the nori so it won't get soggy but it did took me a couple tries to figure out a technique to take it off without ripping the nori. Since they opened recently, I've been wanting to try Blue Maki out. I decided to swing by for lunch today and was blown away. The food is absolutely phenomenal. I ordered the pick 3 handroll and chose the TNT roll, the Spicy Tuna roll and the Yellowtail Jalapeno. The fish was extremely filling and the portions were the perfect size. I ordered Takoyaki as well, which came out delicious. The restaurant has a more traditional sushi bar concept with most of the seats right around the sushi chefs so we chatted directly with the chefs. They're super friendly and really welcoming. The were also more than happy to walk us through the menu and what to try out. Amazing service all around! I'll definitely become a regular here! read more

GPS Problem - The manager knows Google Maps and Apple Maps (TomTom) point customers to the wrong building in this strip center complex. They are located between the building where GPS will point you and the building immediately behind it. There are so many restaurants in this large strip center that parking was a real hassle. We were new to hand rolls and were expecting regular rolls, but the hand rolls and sashimi were amazingly good! Layout of this restaurant makes it a little noisy when they're hopping, but we were still easily able to carry on a conversation. We enjoyed spicy tuna, yellowfin and California rolls and a great wine. I would only say wait staff needs to better monitor customers. Our server was all over us to get an initial order, but when we weren't in a rush to order, it became difficult to find her, let alone get her attention. I came to blue maki on a Friday between when they opened at lunch time and when the dinner rush began and was surprised to see a decent crowd during a time that is normally pretty quiet time for most other restaurants. There was still plenty of seating both available at the main seating area at the sushi bar as well as tables around the edges of the restaurant as well though. I ordered the 3/2 regular/premium hand roll combo (Spicy Tuna, Dragon, one I forgot from the bottom left of the regular menu, Bluefin Tuna, Waygu ~$43) and a classic Yuzu Highball (~$13). Overall the Hand rolls were great with the Dragon and Premium Tuna being the standouts. The highball was fine but had a pretty heavy boozy taste in the back half and a bit less fruit flavor that seems to be the more popular style these days. I think this is fantastic spot but I think I'd go back for dinner as it ended up being a bit more spendy than I prefer to do as a late lunch/early diner option. I think 3-4 hand rolls is likely enough for me for one meal so I think I could likely get the similar joy on a tighter budget than I managed this first trip though. read more

This place is above and beyond expectations. The ambiance sets the tone. When you walk in, you get greeted by a large sushi bar seating arrangements, and the host will contact you and your guests seated either at the bar or at a table. Was surprised to see this place open for lunch on a Saturday so finally got to try it out, and the food did not disappoint. We got the shrimp tempura for the appetizer and it wasn't overly fried, and breading was light and crisp. We also got a sashimi dish that was for $100 for two people, and there must have been at least 15-17 pieces of fish. Visiting Dallas for work. My colleague was looking for a Blue Fish location (fairly mediocre sushi at best) and found this little new hidden Gem...I ain't mad at it...in fact I would say its 20x better than the regular Blue Fish Restaurant! Sunday evening and everything was absolutely perfect. My husband and I live in the area and decided to come in for our anniversary. Quickly greeted and seated at the bar and brought water/menus. Started with a crudo sampler which was a great way for a couple to try a few of their raw offerings. My favorite was the tuna topped with the crab. I ordered a 3-roll regular combo and my husband opted for the 5-roll premium option. Every single thing was delicious and fresh. Even the options with sauces were very nicely balanced and not overdone. My favorite was the salmon option with the mango. My husband loved the yellowtail topped with a jalapeño. Chef gifted us a couple of pieces of salmon belly sushi which was my favorite bite of the night! It was lightly smoked and came with a dab of a wonderful sauce.
