I have struggled all day with whether or not to even write this review. I am a frequent customer and absolutely love making a trip all the way out to Puyallup to Blue Max because of the quality of product and exceptional service I normally receive. Unfortunately, today did not hold up to their excellent standards. We arrived to a busy store earlier in the day to pick up some jerky and steaks. We waited at the counter and were promptly helped by JT. He was absolutely fantastic and a perfect representation of the normal level of service we have previously experienced. We found a new jerky flavor that we ended up loving so much that we made a second trip later in the evening. This is where things went downhill quickly. Upon arriving, the store was at the same level of business as earlier in the day. Myself, my daughter, and another customer entered at the same time. I forgot I left something in my car so I quickly stepped out and returned to walk up to where my daughter was looking at all the choices (just in case we missed another great new flavor we didn't see the first time). At that point, one of the employees quickly marched up to me and the other patron and proceeded to berate us by basically shouting loudly about all of us cutting the line in front of a number of other customers. So loudly in fact nearly all customers in the store spun around and stared. I have NEVER felt so embarrassed or unwelcome. It took me everything to not walk out of the store, but my family enjoys the products so much, I tried to tell myself it was a fluke. It was when the other shopper who entered the store at the same time as us came up to me and told me she was snapped at as well about cutting in line, and additional shoppers telling the three of us how uncalled the response by the employee was, that I realized it was as bad as it made me feel. I understand there are Covid restrictions and it puts merchants in a bind, but something as simple as a "please line up here" sign inside the door or an employee monitoring the number of customers coming in, this whole situation could have been avoided. In the end I still spent around $200 between both trips because the quality of product stands for itself. The normal level of customer service is what puts them over the top. The second visit was unbelievably uncharacteristic for Blue Max and extremely disappointing. Hopefully they can come up with a solution to prevent patrons from feeling like they aren't welcome in the future. read more

Amazing selection of meats, every cut is superstar status. Staff is very friendly. My grandma has a collapsing lung and cannot mask up and the staff was very accommodating and non-judgmental, non-confrontational towards her. Much respect deserved. read more

My favorite butcher shop in the Tacoma area, I am happy to see that they might start mail order. I miss the beef jerky and homemade beef sticks. They have the best around. I moved back to Southern Calfornia and miss their products. read more

Not sure what happened. We have been going here for 6 or 7 years or so, we like supporting local. Normally, sharp counter/ phone staff consisting of an army of young men in bow ties to make sure you are being helped. They also answer phones, My issue is with the butcher staff. We called ahead to get some boneless Chuck roast cut into approx 1.5 " cubes, something we have routinely done in the past for stews. What we got this time, when we called ahead on the phone, was a zero fu*#ks given, dismissive attitude AND our order was poorly cut. The kid on the phone would not even take my order...after telling him what I wanted, he simply said.."umm, can you just come in?" 4lbs of beef cut into fist size chunks. C'mon guys, do better. Don't answer the phone if you are in a shitty mood. The experience of getting a piss poor attitude on the phone AND getting a sack of fists will make us think twice about returning. read more

I'm so glad to see the store back up and running like it should have been in the first place. I just can't get enough of this place. I love getting the different flavored pepperoni sticks, they're so fresh. There 2 dollar huge avocados are yummy too! I'm always been helped as soon as I walk in or someone will at least acknowledge me. The guys are all so friendly, love this place, it's my new candy store and I'm lucky enough to live right next door! Now I just gotta learn how to barbecue and get some off juicy steaks and I'll be set! read more

The Blue max offer really good cuts of meat and cured products such as bologna and brats. My favorite is the beef and cheddar worst and also the pepper jack Italian brat. The service is fast and friendly. And they have ample parking. read more

I've never ordered from Blue Max before, always used Butcher boys so I thought I'd give them a try today. I called at 11:42 this morning and spoke with a very kind man and asked if they were taking orders for their Meat packs as I know with demand being high some places stopped taking orders. The man on the phone asked what meat pack I was hoping for and I said the Jumbo pack, he sounded like he was calculating how much they had vs. How much the jumbo pack contained and then told me that yes, they could do that so I should just come down and I quote "they would set me up" I arrived at the Puyallup store at 12:15. I went in and stated what I had been told on the phone, and the man helping looked in the freezer and then spoke with 2 other employees and then told me they were out of almost everything for the pack. I said I had just spoke with someone and was told to come down and he just shrugged. Then another man stepped in and said they had already done 10 pack orders since Tues. and pretty much oh well for you. I get it, meat has been in high demand, and had they told me that they were out of everything on the phone it would have been no big deal, but to tell me to come on down, so I could get my order was frustrating. They wouldn't even let me place an order for a later pick up. I work as a senior home caregiver myself, I totally appreciate everything the employees have been through, their work and long days, I just wish they would communicate better before having someone come down on their only day off this week to get food for their family only to be told it wasn't possible. I guess I'll be sticking with Butcher boys. 2 stars because the man on the phone, although he was incorrect, was very kind. read more

Today was my first trip here...I've been told about them but never stopped. Not going to lie, I went for the beastmode sausage! If it was possible to leave 0 stars I would. They have a lot of workers to help you. Get in and get out and are happy to take your money. Even if their meat is garbage! I have bought meat from them three separate times and everytime was blown away by how terrible the quality of meat was. I thought that the other two times may have been just a coincidence, but this last time was blatantly terrible quality meat being passed of as quality. I bought a prime rib roast. After cooking I tried to carve the roast and could hardly cut through the gristle. The meat was also super tough and mushy at the same time. I have never had prime rib this terrible. When I went back to talk to them about the roast, they told me that there is now way to know what the meat will be like and you get what you get. I tried to call and talk to a manager and they will not answer their phone. NOT A REAL BUTCHER!! Does not provide quality meat even when you are paying their premium price. I will never go there again and I will tell everybody that I can that anywhere is better than Bluemax! read more

Was in today followed a group of people at around 2:00 , everyone in front of me was taken care of fast , when it became my turn - nothing not even a hello ! I stood at the counter waiting and waiting with nothing I guess I'm invisible in this place ! I waited 10 mins with nothing totally ignored , employees standing around doing nothing off to the left laughing and conversations about the weekend , Customer service here is hit or miss .. this is my 10th or so time in I guess my money was meant to be spent elsewhere. I was on a vacation recently to the Puyallup area to visit some in laws and was assigned to make some Portuguese soup! Not knowing the area I decided to yelp some local butcher shops to see if I could find Portuguese sausage. I called four places and no one carried it. But the guys at Blue Max meats were kind enough to refer me to another shop that might carry it. But much to my surprise I was able to find it at Winco. Not exactly what I wanted but close enough. They carry a linquica that is not as good as Hawaiian style Portuguese sausage but I'll will do. read more

this place is fabulous! really nice employees, great selection of different types of meats, love the sausage sticks. i recently bought some frozen stuffed chicken breasts - and we made them for dinner recently - they were OUT OF THIS WORLD, i will be back for more, for sure! the only downside of the place is that i think they are overpriced.... but it's nice to have a great local business like this for good meats with nice employees. thumbs up! read more

Always been hard to find good beef jerky in the South Puget Sound area so when I discovered this place I was delighted. They have a good variety of jerky and pepperoni sticks that are of great quality. I typically get a pound each of the Hawaiian and Kalbi beef jerky which is $24 / lb. I like that its not too far of a drive and the staff is super friendly. Will keep coming here as long as their prices stay competitive and they keep selling good quality beef jerky. read more

Not only is the service here awesome but all of the meat, poultry and pepperoni is to die for. Everything is prepped perfect and nothing has been injected with hormones (since all butchers and farmers stopped that like more than 10 years ago). The duck breasts I get her are some of the best. I love this place and prefer them over some of the other butcher shops that are closer. Don't forget to tip those guys...they work hard. read more

I love to shop for good deals. So one day I stopped in here. Looked around and bought some jerky. I also noticed that they had 10 pound meat deals too. I've tried them out and there hamburger meat is far superior than the chain stores and if you buy it at 10 pounds or more u save a dollar per pound. I've stopped buying meat at the qfc and marketplace and have just been coming here. Awesome customer service except it can get really busy sometimes. read more
