The cheesecake is fantastic!!! I came for my birthday week to redeem my free table side guacamole, passion fruit tea (ask to add agave), and dessert with any entree. What a deal! This location has a great patio for a fall lunch and is kid friendly. I ordered the lunch combo steak street race & chicken enchiladas with rice, beans and corn cake (basically a small corn ball). It was enough to share with my 1 year old son! The guacamole was very good. But the cheesecake. Chiiiiiiiile, the CHEESECAKE! So. De. Licious! I attached some pictures to show how beautiful the presentation is, and the flavor does it justice!!! Also, I watched a few orders come out at tables nearby and the veggie plate, chicken fajitas, and seafood sampler looked VERY good. My husband and I had the Sunday Mimosa brunch here yesterday, and it was soooooo good! Our waiter, Alfonso, was the BEST! He was so friendly and on top of everything. We never had to ask for anything because he was already on it! (And he kept the mimosas coming!) :) The food was tasty, and there was such a great selection. We had a very large party for dinner after a wedding rehearsal. Originally it looked like we would have one server but luckily they realized that wouldn't work so they added another server to take our orders. The chips and salsas were yummy. I love when tortilla chips are good! I had the fajitas with shrimp, chicken breast and steak. The chicken was flavorful, the steak was thin so seemed over cooked but has nice flavor and the shrimp had good flavor. We ordered a pitcher of margs which was priced right and quenched the thirsts of 3 adults. Our server was weird. She seemed a little stressed, it may have been the number of guests and she was just focused on getting it done but it made me just not want to ask her for anything so I'm glad we got the 1 pitcher in. Ol Blue...hmmm I'm not quite sure if it was a bad night for you all or not, but when we went it was about 40-60minutes before closing and it was dead on a Saturday night.. When we walked in we were seated promptly, and the server took our orders. My hubs got a chicken salad and I got the shrimp salad that I've had before. On this day, the salad was just okay for me and my husband said his chicken was very very dry. It was so dry that he took 2 bites of his salad and couldn't continue it even though he was very hungry. Okay, let me just say Happy Hour at Blue Mesa Grill was great! I met some of my friends and co-workers after work today at Blue Mesa (612 Carroll Street) for Happy Hour, Monday-Friday from 4:00-7:00. It seems the large blue margaritas was a hit with the grouping however we did have a few draft beer drinkers. One of the quirks with coming to BMG is the Free QUESADILLA BAR (free with the purchase of a beverage or $3.50 if you have a soda like I did). The space's decor is eclectic, with an energetic atmosphere. Which creates a great vibe to meet friends and catch up over snacks and cocktails. Probably one of my favorite brunch buffets. It has something for everybody. For $22 you have an all you can eat buffet, including mimosas. The waffle station is very good. I also really recommend trying the fajitas - the flour tortillas are freshly made and are amazinggg. They also have salmon and brisket. They have a made to order station for omelettes, huevos rancheros, etc. And if you have a sweet tooth, such as myself, there's amazing flan, churro bar, and ice cream sundae stations. I love this place. I think of Blue Mesa Grill as my first American (new) food sub genre experience. Everything I've ever ordered here has been delicious. And, I'm a big fan of the variety of chips and salsa offered at every table. When I needed a place to bring someone for their first margarita, Blue Mesa was the obvious choice. The waiter and bartender took great care of her, using better tequila than I paid for and and adding special care to the creation of the drink to suit the occasion. Service is always great. And the atmosphere inside feels modern and classy for a chain restaurant. Blue Mesa also provides outdoor seating in pleasant weather. This particular visit I came here on a Sunday afternoon and ordered a bowl of the Painted Desert Soup, my first time to try this dish. It's a bowl with half black bean soup and half corn chowder. The black bean soup had a robust, lime-influenced flavor, and the corn chowder was creamy and sweet. Over-the-top was a dab of pico and a spicy sour cream drizzle. It was absolutely fantastic, and on par with both flavor and presentation of all the food here. I also tried a cup of coffee, which was surprisingly smooth and had a touch of cinnamon. I don't know why it surprised me that Blue Mesa offered great coffee, but they certainly do! No gaps in the menu, great drink offerings, fun atmosphere, Blue Mesa is a winner! read more

Epic Sunday brunch. Unlimited Mimosas and Bloody Maries. Dangerous! I sit at the bar cause it's easy seating when people pile in at 11:30 am, so the bar tenders are extra accommodating. Make sure you have a driver if you indulge. I got a Prairie Oyster one time (which is not on the menu) on a Sunday morning, 6 Voodoo Ranger hangover and the dude had no problems doing it for me. The buffet is legendary. Carne asada chicken, pulled pork, grilled salmon (my favorite), carnitas, it doesn't stop. I think the carver helps you with prime rib, I know I've seen it once. They have a waffle station, A WAFFLE STATION, that has nothing short of flambé berries, fried chicken, whipped cream, plenty of syrup, it's the works. Then you have all the side dishes any breakfast would ever have from grilled potatoes, biscuits, ham, sausage, scrambled eggs, gravy, black beans, rice, mashed tatoes, grilled onions/peppers, it keeps going. Before you try anything else, the black beans and dirty rice is the main attraction. It will spread your legs. Huge bowels of guac and salsa, all sorts of chips, cheese for nachos, you can do whatever here for brunch. Feeling light but want something good and worth the cost? Their salad bar has you covered with fruit salad, spinach/arugula salad, Ceaser salad, seaweed salad, they have whatever you want. Then there's the desert table which has multiple tiers. I'm not going to list it all but if you need cobbler, pie, or crème brûlée, it's here. It's a great place for kids. The place gets noisy after 11:30, and this is a big Yuppie spot for people from all over Fort Worth, so get here early or make reservations. The Weekend Warriors can be obnoxious just by virtue of being Weekend Warriors. Also, even though the bartenders are cool, the wait staff kinda sucks. I never see the same hosts or servers twice. Regardless, you don't really need customer service that much here, at least not for buffet. It is pricey; I think I paid $32 last time I went. But going here once in a while will lift your spirits and bulk you up for winter time. Last thing: forget major holidays. If you come here on Mother's Day you will see the line of cars trickling into Carroll Street. read more

I met a friend for happy hour on a Thursday. We arrived just after 4:30 when the quesadilla bar opens for happy hour. I definitely recommend trying to go earlier rather than on the later end of happy hour to get a table. While we stayed for 2.5 hours catching up I was surprised to see that they were not as crowded as I remember them to be back at their old location on university- maybe this is because they are slightly further from TCU. I ordered a regular margarita (not the blue one) but after 2 sips it just didn't taste great. I don't drink too often so I do get a little picky when I do decide to have a drink. I mentioned it to our waitress and she happily took it back and brought me one for their house margaritas (the blue one). It honestly didn't taste much better to me so it must be the tequila they use that I'm not a huge fan but I stuck with it anyway not wanting to be rude. The quesadilla bar that comes with happy hour hasn't changed too much from the past. The options were chicken or veggie and I had one of both. You help yourself to chips, salsa, sour cream and jalapeños. What I really miss though is the nachos they used to offer at happy hour. That was one of my favorite parts! While Blue Mesa has one of the best happy hours in terms of the best bang for your buck I just wasn't impressed with the margarita and still sad they got rid of the nachos. Brunch is a joke here. You get 3 different plates with small portions of rice, scrambled eggs, zucchini and red bell peppers, corn bread, build your own tacos and mini French toast casserole, churro and brownie. The randomest combination of items that do not taste good or go well together. The flour tortillas, churro and french toast taste store bought and pre packaged. This is microwaved food, not worth 18$ a person. We mentioned to our server that the food was not good and all she did was bring the check out. read more

I stopped by here for the Easter special brunch. I figured they might be packed so I called ahead and reserved a spot. Once I got there I was promptly seated and began to explore the buffet. They had omelets, ready made egg and custom order. There were brisket tacos, fried chicken and waffles and all types of other dishes. There was plenty to choose from and the servers kept every thing well stocked. The mimosa that came the meal were flat because I assume they were making them ahead of time and they prob just sat in a table til someone asked for one. Cute little Tex mex place in downtown Fort Worth. We came for their AYCE brunch but unfortunately that's sundays only so we just ordered off the dinner/lunch menu. For drinks we got the mango Chile, strawberry fields, watermelon smash, and boozy limonada. They were all good but we did feel a little skimped out on the Tajin rim for the mango Chile. We even ordered a second round of them and those drinks didn't even have a tajin rim. As for food, we got the Blue Crab Enchiladas, Churrascaritas, and Blue Corn Cheese Enchilada. I was able to sub out one of my blue crab enchiladas for a coconut shrimp taco and both were good but the enchiladas were really salty. However, It balanced out with the coconut lime rice which was a hit with everyone at the table. The chimayo corn was also a hit it was basically elote on a plate. Blue Mesa handled our large group very professionally, with five-star service on the part of our server and fun, unique Southwestern-style food. The "corn cakes" (polenta?) were so good I ordered a dish a la carte, even though they didn't come with my meal. Other highlights included the crab enchilada, salmon, and adobe pie--a southwestern pot pie bite, featuring cornbread, black beans, and meat. Tableside guacamole=yes. The most difficult part of the whole experience was choosing WHAT to get, as there were many appealing options. My recommendation: go with a group and share. So I decided to order from Blue Mesa and I had it delivered by Favor on Saturday and after tasting some corn on the cob that my son brought me. I wanted to explore more in the menu, so I ordered the combination fajitas (beef & chicken), it was so delicious, it came with a delicious rice & black beans and all the normal fixings, it had a jalapeño relish, which I enjoyed with my fajitas so much. This was our second Mexican-type stop of the day and we came for Happy Hour. It was a great choice! Our friends had never been to Blue Mesa before and we hadn't been since they made the move from University Drive. It was wonderful! The ambiance is great - kind of upscale, but at the same time, laid back. We beat the crowd to the bar where we ordered Blue Margaritas, dStrawberry Margaritas, and Billy Jenkins Beer - all were wonderful. The complimentary hors d'ouvers were enough that we didn't even order food. There were cheese & chicken quesadillas, chips & salsa, sweet potatoe chips, sour cream, jalapeños... plenty for us. All for FREE people! Service was very good in spite of the crowd (thanks Shane!) that completely filled the place within an hour. The manager even stopped by to check on us. This was a horrible Experience and set up for MOTHERS DAY brunch. $30 a plate. Over packed. Sat immediately on the second floor because we had reservations.The Buffet was downstairs. Two lines but two different options through the lines. If you went through one line which took about 30 minutes and you wanted to go to the second line it would be another 30 minutes and all your food would be cold. There was people cutting in line and it was total chaos. Very bad set up on the staff. Once we were sat we got drinks but never saw our wait staff again after that. On top of that the elevator stopped working so 2 flights of stairs with your plate. I'd rather go to sonic drive-through, Or go spend twice the amount per person and actually get a decent meal. The food wasn't even that good. I witnessed several people complaining. Even a few arguments. Everyone looked miserable. My husband didn't even eat. When I went to speak to the manager. The design and ambiance of this place is curious to say the least. We had a nice server who was quite attentive. The food tasted like 2007 southwestern cuisine, except not as fresh. Seems like the plates have a lot of rice and little protein. The whole menu could use a re boot. read more
