There are some things they do particularly right at Blue Mesa (the fact, for one, that there's quite a bit of nuanced light in here strikes me -- the fact that you can drop in on a sunny day and catch the advancing shadows within seems interesting), and then again, I couldn't help but be struck by the fact that there were some additional elements of my recent stop here that seemed to indicate that staff was, well, more or less mailing it in. Maybe it's me (a possibility), but I find that you can tell quite a bit about a restaurant by how much they pay attention to reasonable special instructions, and in this case when I ordered the lunch take on Mahi Mahi (with some asparagus to boot), I asked for the pineapple salsa on the side. Well, they apparently blew that request off, so with a little scraping I made my way through the filets (well executed) and the asparagus (a favorable compliment). But it did make me wonder....are there any cooks in this town that actually heed reasonable special instructions? Perhaps there are. But they're not here. This place has a great happy hour. The blue margaritas are only $4 but they are strong and will do a good job of giving you a buzz if thats what you are going for. The happy hours comes with sweet potatoe chip, regular chips, salsa and they give you a free quesadilla too! This place is a must for happy hour. The brunch at the fort worth location is pretty awesome too! The Fort Worth location has so many more food options than other locations. They have sweet foods like icecream and pasteries, breakfast foods like waffles, they have mexican food, some pastas and of course eggs and sausage ect. It is around 18 bucks a person, but it is all you can eat AND drink. As I said before, the drinks here are effective so its worth it. The only thing is that for brunch and for happy hour the place gets packed, so dont go late unless you are okay with sitting outside!! I'm on a bit of a chain resturant review kick, which is something I am not accustomed to. That said, this place is a great place for a quick brunch. We came here and for $17.95 a person, you get bottomless drinks (champagne, sodas), and a buffet that has a made to order eggs benedict or huevos rancheros. I had the eggs benedict and the hollandaise sauce was too runny. The rest of the buffet was average at best. They have a bevy of breskfast foods along with mexican dishes. The steak for the fajitas was the only stand out part of the meal. For dessert, they have mini cheesecakes along with ice cream. At 12:30pm on a Sunday, there was a 20 minute wait for a party of 4. Also as indicated by other kind Yelpers, too many people and not enough wait staff. Management may be behind the scenes in the kitchen, but for crowd control a visible manager might be effected to manage in today's case, the pooling of shepardless people to allow freedom of movement and ease server and guest flow to navigate the restaurant and table. As a former wait staff, it's hard to serve a crowd, and perhaps...the staff would benefit from a brush up on table service and refilling of water, etc. Nice spot, but would not return for brunch until staffing can be supported. We were meeting friends on Easter Sunday for brunch and Blue Mesa was THE place to be. Our reservations were at 9:30 and we were glad they were when we left and saw the mass of folks waiting for their table for Easter Brunch. Now for the great news is that Blue Mesa doesn't raise the price of their bunch on holidays. The price is $18.95 and one of the best brunch bargains in town. In fact their brunch is a "fan favorite" in many of the DFW polls. The brunch menu is massive and has items to satisfy all tastes. When it comes to food, Blue Mesa is one of my "must go to" restaurant stops when I'm in town. However, I often find it hard to convince my family to come along with me because the service is not always on point... They serve three different kind of chips to the table (black, white, & sweet potato), and two different kinds of salsa. The street tacos with the black beans and jasmine rice are my favorite. This place is definitely still a keeper. :) The chips weren't as great as before but my entree helped me forget about that. The Red Chile Salmon Salad wrap was awesome! It was quite large but I was fortunate enough to have Paul H.'s appetite to help me. They dress their salads with a heavy hand so you might want to ask for the dressing on the side. Visited Blue Mesa on Sat with the family as we had heard great things about their lunch specials. We had a great time there. We ordered the guacamole which was freshly prepared in front of us at the table by the waiter, and it tasted Devine! We also had the corn soup and the seafood special which came with huge shrimp, beautifully seared salmon and fish enchilada, with some ginger rice it all tasted delish. I think we will come again to try some of their other options. Parking was a problem as there was a formal event upstairs, hopefully it is not as bad all the time. read more

I really wanted to give this place more stars. I know covid has been a pain for the food industry. You still have to remember if you are charging $30 a person for a brunch then at least have plenty of options for people to choose from. The salmon was way over cooked. The waffles were floppy from sitting so long. The berries for the waffles was a syrup crap you get in like a can. The potatoes from the chef were cold. There's an easy solve if you've read reviews stating there's barely any champagne in their mimosas - ask for it and ye shall receive! We asked for a champagne mimosa with a splash of juice and that's what we got :) YUM! Now I won't go into buffet details - several awesome Yelpers covered all of it's yuminess in full detail - but I will say given it was a Sunday brunch buffet and there was a long line of people waiting to get in, I applaud the restaurant planners for not making the seating ridiculously tight. Thank you management for going with the plan! There was comfortable walking room to get around and the lines at the buffet weren't too long. The food did go quickly so I didn't find that it was cold or stale, and waitstaff was nearby to get the next round of bites out pretty quick. Speaking of bites, if you like salsa - you'll love their salsa and chip station! The salsas are made from scratch and there's an ample variety to please various tastebuds (mine loved all - especially the delish guac!). I definitely found it tasty enough to give them a try when hubs and I have to wait it out with everyone else in line. Blue Mesa moved! Back in my TCU days, I was a frequent patron of Blue Mesa. What college student can resist the quesadilla bar for the low cost of a $4 blue margarita? I know I couldn't! My friends and I spent many an afternoon/early evening at the University location before Blue Mesa relocated. One of my TCU friends came to town and wanted to go to Blue Mesa so we made our way to West 7th and to the new location. We were impressed with the nice decor and settled in for happy hour. The blue margaritas did not disappoint and we had a nice time catching up on life over the past few months. We did not take advantage of the quesadilla bar as we had already had lunch earlier but next time we will certainly leave room so that we can relive our college days of loading up on quesadillas and blue margaritas. read more

Love Blue Mesa. The service is good. The new location is gorgeous and the food is just different. It's fresh, well prepared, beautifully presented, generously portioned, and most importantly, its incredibly delicious. I've been several times over a span of at least a decade now and they are always consistent, and offer unique tastes that always please my palate. Try an entree that allows you a variety of the different items on their menu. Also, their brunch is nuts. So. Much. Food. Haven't visited here in about ten years..Same great decor--timeless. Excellent service and seating. Table salsa and chips were still excellent. One general difference I did notice was that food needed salting. But that's a preference of mine. Entrees and table side guacamole were amply served. Their guacamole is just about the very best restaurant version I've had. My entree consisting of marinated beef and chicken skewers was very dry and tough. I imagine those skewers were not cooked to order, rather, grilled ahead of time and kept under a food warmer. The range of food they offer on days like Thanksgiving makes me happy. However, on a non-holiday when we ordered off the menu, its ok. I had the New Mexican enchiladas, which aren't worth the nearly $20 price. I do love their variety of chips they offer (blue corn and sweet potato). BEST happy hour ever!! Their happy hour is Monday - Friday from 4pm - 7pm, and their free quesadilla bar is open from 4:30pm - 6:30pm. Since I have started school in July, I have been probably once every week or two weeks to destress and enjoy something other than the school library. Seating is open at the bar, and if you go fairly early, there is a lot of seating available both inside and outside. However, it can get busy and hectic very fast, and not only does seating become sparse, but the times of being served also get longer and longer. There was one time we waited around 20 minutes just to get our drinks or glasses of water, which I found pretty ridiculous. Staff is very helpful when a large group of us comes. There was one time that 20+ people came together, and they were kind enough to put tables together in the restaurant portion. I believe you can also call ahead and reserve seating at the bars for large groups. Another huge plus is that there is a very large parking lot, which isn't common on 7th street. I've never had problems with parking, which I've honestly been shocked about since there is so many people in the area. I usually order a $4 blue margarita or a draft beer, depending on what I'm feeling. The best part is a purchase of a drink gets you unlimited quesadillas, and I always have to go through the lines multiple times because they are so yummy. You get the option of chicken or veggies (you can also just get cheese), and you get 2 at a time. There are also Terra chips, salsa, sour cream, and jalapeños available. If you want to go to happy hour, and also have dinner, you have that option too! My boyfriend got the beef fajitas, so we split that and also had ourselves some quesadillas and chips. The fajitas were delicious and cooked perfectly! They didn't originally come with enough tortillas, but you can ask for more. The meal also came with the typical beans and rice. Overall, you can't get a happy hour better than this. I can get a drink and pretty much a whole meal with the purchase of a $4 blue margarita. The atmosphere is very nice, and is a great place to go with classmates to get a study break or meet up with old friends to catch up. read more

We started with the fajita bar which honestly blew us away and was delicious, partnered with fresh tortillas! Unfortunately that was where our positive experiences began to wane. I must admit I was a little confused at the selection of Blue Mesa as the location for a Sunday birthday brunch. I've been before for dinner, and as was not overly impressed. It was OK, but I felt one could do better if looking for this type of cuisine. However, things started looking up when I was offered a mimosa upon sitting down. The brunch is done buffet style and the choices are quite impressive. There are several serve yourself stations, as well as eggs and omelets made to order. Tortillas (corn and flour) were being hand-made at another station. A third station was cranking out waffles. The coffee, which is brewed with cinnamon, went particularly well with the vast desert selections (I liked the churro balls). I did my best to sample everything, and liked it all. I particularly liked the flour tortillas with either the picadillo or the brisket (augmented with some of the jalapeno relish from the chip/salsa/salad/soup bar. If ever asked for a brunch suggestion, I would not hesitate to recommend Blue Mesa Grill for this. Do be prepared for a crowd though, as on the temperate Sunday the place was packed, and a people waited for seats, the entire time we were there (from 11AM to about 12:30PM). read more

The staff is very sweet. The food was good - very creative. However, the basics - the chips and the tortillas - were blah. The tortilla chips were mixed in with a lot of sweet potato chips which were overdone. The tortillas in my enchiladas were too thick and not tasty - added nothing to the enchiladas. I ate around them. That seems really easy to fix, no? It's a weird mix. Nice decor, huge restaurant. But then store bought salt and pepper shakers dressed the table way down. The parking is easy. Stopped in here recently for an early dinner because we happened to be in the area. The place, especially the bar, was already packed at like 530pm, most likely because the after work crowd had rolled in. That wasn't a real problem as we only had to wait about 10-15 minutes for our table. The chips and salsa we nothing spectacular. They have the regular and blue corn chips which look cool but that's about it. No real taste difference. For an entree I had the chicken enchiladas. They were fine but nothing to really get excited about. I know that Blue Mesa has a good following in several cities but it seems to suffer from the all to common chain eatery syndrome where the food taste doesn't quite match the hype. I would definitely come here for after-work drinks because it is a cool atmosphere and they offer outdoor seating, but I wouldn't necessarily make a special trip just for the food. We love Blue Mesa! We live in the neighborhood and it's one of our favorite spots to get a drink and food that is consistently good every time! We've even had my boyfriends birthday party there the last couple of years and they always do an excellent job accommodating our large parties, while also maintaining COVID guidelines.
