Came here for Sunday brunch. Food was good and quite fresh, we had been seated instantly and our waiter was very good and attentive. I would have wanted bigger variety of breakfast food and not as much lunch options for brunch. I really liked mini tacos and baked salmon. Eggs Benedict were blah, sauce was blend and had no flavor, eggs were undercooked. Also limited variety on fresh fruit, just 1 large bowl of melons mixed in a fruits salad, no other options... Right off the top, the best waiter at this location is Adrian, if anyone in management at this Blue Mesa is reading, give him a holiday bonus or something! My girlfriend and I have the Frisco/north Plano tex-Mex scene pretty locked down, where we rotate through a few places. But on the weekends we make it a point to take in brunch at this blue Mesa. To start, if you haven't had their queso, you need to get on that right now. It's the best, hands down. And if you are looking for a brunch to share with friends, this is the place! Just be aware that it can get busy, make sure and factor the church crowd in on Sunday, and you'll be fine. My one complaint is that the kitchen needs to keep up with the brunch buffet.... Just saying. You shouldn't run out of anything and have to make more. The rush should be well anticipated and you should have more ready. read more

Not near as good as it use to be. My favorite has always been the Blue Crab Enchilidas. They changed the recipe! Not near as good as it use to be! Corn cakes weren't good either another favorite of mine. Something weird in one might have been cabbage? Why? Service wasn't good either. I worked in the service industry for years as a server up until just recently, so I really hesitate to write a negative review - but this was one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. We had a large group of 9 adults with a reservation at 6:30 on a Saturday night, we were seated right away upon arrival but the restaurant was pretty empty for our entire visit. After being seated it took at least 10 minutes for our server to great us, an additional 10 minutes to have waters for our table, and 20 minutes for our margaritas to be brought out. We ordered our food at 6:50 as soon as we all had water and did not have food to our table until 8pm. During that time our waters were almost always empty, our server came to fill our glasses once and did not have enough water to refill the entire tables but did not come back. We ordered a second round of margaritas and it took 30 minutes to get those drinks. We also were constantly having to ask for more chips and salsa and were waiting at least 15 minutes between asking and having them at our table. We saw several tables sit down, be served, and leave all before we got our food - but there were also several table in the same situation as us, hungry and waiting. The manager did come by and offered to get us something because we had been waiting so long, but discounting anything we had already ordered was not offered, we also saw him go to talk to the other tables that were there for long periods of time with no food. After we finally finished eating, we waited an additional 20 minutes for our check. The server did not ask if we would be all together or separate, so he had to go and split the bill which took quite awhile and once we had paid it took 10-15 minutes to get our cards back. Our food was wonderful, but definitely not worth the wait. I had the blue crab and shrimp enchiladas which I will definitely get again - but take out, I will never dine in again at this location. The rest of our table had more traditional Mexican food entrees that can be found at every restaurant and they were nothing special - including fajitas that were brought with no tortillas. After asking for tortillas twice and never receiving them we just went without. We had also asked for sour cream which was never brought and a high chair for my daughter which we ended up going to grab ourselves since waiting for a high chair for 20 minutes is a bit ridiculous. We also had a 10 month old baby with us. Slightly beside the point, but the changing station in the restroom is very tall. I'm 5'9" and it lands at my chest. I'm not sure how a shorter mom would change her baby at this station. It was clearly designed by someone who does not have children or who has never used a changing table in a restroom before. In summary, our reservation was at 6:30 we finally got our food at 8pm and ate quickly because by then my daughter was having a meltdown since that is her bedtime, and we were unable to leave the restaurant until 9:30 after waiting for the check for a considerable amount of time. Only dine here if you have several hours to kill, otherwise there are tons of great Mexican food options in the area and several other great restaurants in granite park - I recommend you check out Chips just a few doors down for burgers. read more

Just all around bad...came in on a Saturday for lunch and immediately regretted the decision. Every other restaurant around them was busy and had a long wait so we thought we would give them a try since they didn't seem busy. Had to wait 10 minutes for someone to show up to the front to seat us and that should have been the first sign. After we declined to partake in their "brunch" multiple times we were seated and sat for another 5-7 minutes before we we served some stale chips and salsa. Another 10 minutes before our drink order was taken. We then sat with empty drinks and empty chips patiently waiting for our waitress to return, who was also apparently tending bar inside. Each drink refill had so much ice I only got about 3-4 oz of drink but each refill took another 10-15 minutes. We finally had our order taken and then proceeded to wait for almost 30 minutes for the food to show. It was partially cold, partially missing items and just ok as far as taste and quality. We finished our meal and the waitress told us she would bring some drink refills. Well, another 15 minutes goes by and I finally ask about our drink refills after watching her pass our table a half dozen times without drinks. We had to stop her and ask to bring our check. Almost 2 Hours to eat lunch...ridiculous...never once did we receive an apology for the errors or slow service. If they would have just said they were short staffed and would do their best that would have been good enough. But it was like they didn't even care. Someone who appeared to be a a manager delivered meals to several tables and couldn't even be bothered to properly wear a mask. Won't ever try them again and suggest they take a hard look at if they even want to be in business. read more

This place has a cool atmosphere. Very unique take on Mexican cuisine, a lot of chipotle bbq taste in their food unlike regular Mexican or Tex-Mex food. Everything we ate was really good. The serving staff was adequate; nothing special, nothing bad. read more

Thoroughly enjoyed my brunch experience at Blue Mesa! So many great options: an omelette bar, a taco station, and plenty of Mexican inspired dishes. I honestly wish I had taken pictures of the buffet labels bc I'm not positive what I ate. But there was a cheese enchilada, some kind of black bean stuffed corn cake, a Mexican casserole, sweet potatoes and sweet corn cake. All of it was delicious. For dessert, I highly recommend the Mexican cheesecake. I was so stuffed by that point that I could barely get one tiny pastry puff in my stomach. There's also chips and salsa- tho I preferred dipping the chips in the very fresh/avocado chunk filled guacamole. $20 gets you the buffet and unlimited mimosas. Great deal if you ask me! I've been to Blue Mesa for their brunch, but at their addison location. This time, i came here for a friend's bday dinner. Big mistake. Through out the whole night, the service was very spotty. Needless to say, our waiter was this guy who seemed like he was a sophomore in high school. He was extremely timid and it showed with his service. He spilled cups of water. He forgot orders. I was very sympathetic towards him cause i bet he had a rough night. The boo and i ordered chicken enchiladas and the inside skirt steak. Our food came out room temperature, the once melted cheese had already congealed. The inside skirt steak had the look and texture of rubber. It was very odd. We made the best out of the meal since it was for the bday girl, but i would stay away from any menu items at Blue Mesa except their brunch on sundays. read more

Now they do a buffet style brunch on a Saturday AND sunday at this Plano location from 10am -3pm. $18.95 sounds steep But the quality and choices of foods is so amazing that you won't walk out feeling scammed. Actually you might not walk out of there at all, more like roll out of there They have bottomless mimosa as part of that price and as well as all their southwest favorites there is a small carvery table, taco bar and omelette station. I have been here several times for dinner, lunch, happy hour and also for a office gathering but went in for their weekend brunch only recently. The food is great and service is always friendly. I really got to taste a variety of food on their buffet - Adobe Pie (my absolute favorite) , Blue Cheese Enchilladas, Tilapia, Waffles and a variety of desserts. Its a really good spread. And the mimosas, poinsettias and champagne are bottomless(whats not to like about them). I loved the place where we were seated - near the windows overlooking the fountains. Went here for Brunch on a Sunday and had a great time. Come hungry and take breaks! There are so many things to choose from at their buffet. A huge omelet bar with a slew of ingredients. I taco bar made with fresh corn and flour tortillas. A huge section dedicated to breakfast foods and to lunch items. The Chicken Adobo pies are a must. Along with the sweet corn cakes and the chicken enchiladas. The taco bar has a wide variety of meats, I went for the chicken tomatillo. Complimentary mimosa were a bit weak, but hey they came with it, so I can't complain! Service was fast and friendly. I'm sure the regular menu has just as great a selection as the brunch did. For about $20, you could be in Sunday Brunch Buffet Heaven! This buffet is nicely laid out with a Mexican American flare. You won't get bored with the options, because there is a wide variety of dishes from which to choose. If you feel that nothing has been made to your liking-no worries. Just walk over to the stations to request your personally customized omelette or scrumptious taco. The only thing that I was a bit down about was that there were no pancakes or French toast served. However, I quickly got over that after seeing the dessert/pastry bar area. If you're into bread pudding, you don't want to skip this one! Did I mention mimosas?? Nice place, but did not wow me with really anything. I think 3 stars is just right. Went for their brunch and they had a good selection of different items. Just for the record I have a love hate with buffets. I love to hate them. And as a recovering fat person it does make it hard to stop. Off of my rant about buffets in general, nice location, I thought to myself walking to the table that it would be a great stop for after work drinks as I loved the bar area. Sadly though it's a little too far from my house to have more than one drink, so would never be able to really enjoy it enough. And an UBER from there to my place would be expensive. But fun, just loud enough, place for friends to meet up. The food was good, had a roasted stuffed hatch chili, a blue corn cheese enchilada, a street taco, and some raspberry bread pudding. The hatch chili was like a cheese enchilada but instead of a tortilla it was a chili pepper. Couldn't tell if it was breaded and fried like a relleno or just toasted with bread crumbs but boy if you like cheese enchiladas and you like hatch chilis- you might like this too. Cheese enchilada was ok, but can't say that it was bad as it may just be the loss of awesome because it was on a buffet table for who knows how long. A taco is a taco, right? It was good but can't say that I can remember a taco that was that good to remember it. Lastly, I love bread pudding. Period. And they had bread pudding. I don't like bread pudding that is bad. And this was NOT. I do like bread pudding that has the right balance of soft parts of bread to harder and crunchier parts of bread. I like when the sauce or the other flavor in the bread pudding doesn't overpower the bread pudding-ness of the bread pudding- which this place hit the proper balance if it all. All good, like I said earlier, I could have eaten 2-8 more of them but trying to watch my weight. I went as part of a group of 60 people for a wedding rehearsal dinner. They were very cooperative and helpful during the reservation process, which took several days to finalize due to the large number of people in our group. The room we were in was great for such a large group. The service before and during our reservation is the reason for the four star rating. The food, on the other hand, was only ok. The food provided for large groups does not accommodate vegetarians, which was a problem for me seeing as I am a vegetarian. The desserts were no good. Came here for Sunday brunch with some friends. Service is great! The wait was about 20 min on a Sunday afternoon, definitely reasonable. Buffet was set up nicely and as we were guided to our table our host walked us through all the items in the buffet. For those that like a little buzz with their buffet, 3 mimosas are included. Our server was very good. She was attentive and helpful. Now to the food. Lots of variety and everything was flavorful and HOT! The make your own taco station was the highlight, the barbacoa beef was beyond words good. For dessert the Mexican cheesecake capped off a great meal. Overall great food and great service! This is our default brunch spot on Sundays. Unlimited mimosas, Tex-mex, and football when you sit at the bar. What could go wrong? The tex-mex brunch is unreal - go for the enchiladas and ham with a biscuit. The build-your-own taco bar is always fresh and delicious, you can see the tortillas being made just 2 feet away. There's also a to-order egg and omelette bar. Please try the sweet potato muffins, they are a little piece of heaven. My first visit back to Blue Mesa in a little while. I'd say the service was decent and the food was as well. I just wasn't impressed by either. I had the quesadillas which were plenty for me. It was 4 massively stuffed tortillas. The flavor was great. Their charitable table side guac was also on point. It had enough spice and the creaminess was perfect. The waiter was pretty quiet and I think he was probably new. He wasn't familiar with the tequilas they offered nor was he overly familiar with the menu to answer questions. Nommmm. This place confirms why so many people in Texas have a few pounds to spare. With this kind of eating, you gotta let it loose. First up: chips and salsa. The chips were a mix of sweet potato, blue corn and seasoned white corn. The salsa was perfect: fresh, chunky tomatoes, onions and jalapenos with just the right amount of smokiness and cayenne for a light nip of the tongue but not overpowering. Next up: a cup of the painted desert soup. Ooolala. This was half black bean, half corn chile chowder with cream drizzled on top. Order a bowl if you come hungry enough; you'll thank me later. It was 110 degrees the day I went but I nearly gulped down this soup, it was so good. And for the entrée: the signature taco street platter with three tacos (mushroom, salmon and bbq pulled pork) with sides of chicken adobe pie and the seasonal veggie, which happened to be an au-gratin-y potato, tomato, cheese and jalapeno concoction. The adobe pie was a bit like eating a sponge, with a white sauce on top; I would go for something more tasty next time. The tacos came with a side plate of toppings, including diced jalapenos, red onions pickled in apple cider and a sweet carrot and jalapeno relish and a squash and zucchini slaw. The bbq pork taco had more fat than meat (a little gross to me), the mushroom was portabello and sautéed mushroom, and the salmon taco was something to write home about: three large chunks of perfectly cooked salmon with a light cream sauce on top with diced cabbage. Maybe it was late and they wanted to give me all their salmon, but no expense was spared in its quantity. The au-gratin potato side was amazing, too. It was literally like a lasagna of cheddar cheese, sliced potatoes, onions, tomatoes and jalapenos. Really fun to look and and to eat. I only wish I had had room for the tres flans dessert. It looked absolutely heavenly. And while I am from the north, the southern, Texan hospitality rings true here. Attentive wait staff, hostesses and bartenders. They also have free/discounted tequila tastings on the second Tuesday of the month. Great news!! Look for their $4 margaritas at happy hour (until 7:30) and their tequila selection; there is something like 30 bottles in stock. Definitely stop here if you are in town. They do to-go orders, too. Delectable and definitely new wave Tex-Mex fusion. Had the opportunity to try this place out for free with a Christmas party we were invited to. We were so impressed with the food that we decided to try it on our own a few weeks later. We were still equally happy with the food! The sweet potato chips are excellent and a nice twist on the southwestern style food. The only thing memorable about Blue Mesa - Plano is their space. If you look past the Ikea dorm-room tables and chairs, the space has a great flow, multiple set-ups of individual and group seating options, a lot of natural light, and close access to the kitsch-y complex boardwalk. After you are seated though, the experience is underwhelming. Our server was a 20ish guy with dark hair whose name we could never catch because he refused to speak above a mumble and never even made eye contact. His entire body language screamed that he did not want to be there and it showed in his attention to detail. Once before the drink order and after, we twice requested an appetizer plates for two people and he forgot each time, as soon as he was out of eyeshot. We ended up walking over and pilfering plates off another table's setup. The table side guacamole was truly strange. We were unsure if it was intentionally supposed to be served without any seasoning or it if was just accidentally left out in the making? We're also glad that they donate a portion of the sale for this item to charity because otherwise, we would have felt like we threw our money away on this. As our meal progressed, we noticed a theme recurring in the unseasoned, bland oeuvre. Most everything that was ordered was mediocre plated, under-seasoned, under-salted, or lacking any acid (all of the seafood). Weirdly, the Adobe Black Bean Pie and the Corn Cake tasted overly-sweet and absolutely identical, save the the lone black bean in the middle of one. The only item that stood out is the Corn Chimayo. And while it resembled more of an off-the-cob elote, rather than a true traditional chimayo, it was balanced and well-seasoned within a generous portion - very nice. Overall, the general observation at the table was that no one in the kitchen is tasting this food when it comes off the line. I guess other people must have been ordering more than drinks but it took virtually the entire meal from the buffet to get our drinks. I love the decor and the food, and the server was a nice person, but if we are just getting drinks and clearly they expect a tip maybe don't take forever for a cup of coffee and a glass of water. read more

So, we've been here a few times for Sunday brunch and quite honestly, I've never been impressed and despised the crowds. Today was different. The buffet was super-fresh! I really enjoyed the blue corn cheese enchiladas, shrimp ceviche, roasted veggies, jalapeño cheese grits- really good! The honey flan was outstanding. I truly enjoyed the food. The waitress was not very attentive, but it was a packed house. So she made some good $$$ without doing much ;) After my experience today, I'll be back. We went during brunch times yesterday. We opted not to have the brunch bc it was my first time there and I wanted to try their food. My husband had just been this week for work and was excited to take me this weekend. We sat in the bar area which was fine, the dining rooms were full. The first table we sat at there was a loud group next to us so we asked to move. Much of the seating in the bar seemed like it hadn't been put back together. Tables were cleared but not cleaned off. We found one right by the bar and asked the bar tender to wipe it for us. Then when we got the menus, they were dirty as well. I just felt very icky going in. My fajitas were good, not spectacular. The drink (grapefruit something) was pretty good and strong. I did love the sweet potato chips and salsas. I won't be in a rush to go back. read more

Great brunch special for 20 bucks!!! Mimosas and brunch buffet. My only qualm was the fact that the strawberries were a little frozen on the inside (near the waffle station) but I'd much rather have them a little frozen than a little rotten! Will be returning for sure. read more

The Guy: WOW Brunch! Absolutely the best brunch I have ever had. For, as I remember 18ish dollars a person, you get access to a buffet style/cook in front of you spread. They have everything, a dozen dishes, tacos, sides, omelets, desserts, etc. (their sweet potato chips are great.) The entrance fee includes basic drinks and mimosas. So its a little pricey for most, but its a great splurge. Will defiantly be trying this out for dinner sometime. The Girl: The choices in their brunch are endless! Waited quite a while to be even noticed by a host. A nice server finally came up to seat us. Manager came up and made excuses why we had to wait and didn't even apologize. Blamed our having to wait on a 33-top coming in. Since I worked in the business I know the jargon, but that should have never been said to a guest as an excuse or otherwise. Server was okay at first and then apparently got a lot of tables and we were forgotten with another excuse of the large party that came in. If they can't professionally handle a party of that size, maybe they shouldn't except the business because it ruins the rest of the guests' visit. Another server stepped in to finish helping us. Same manager who made excuses at the front door brought our food out. She stepped on my husband's foot and in passing said 'Sorry for whose ever foot I stepped on' and clearly did not mean it or act like she cared at all. Water glasses went dry more than once and it was an overall disappointment for never going there before. Not planning on going again. Food was bland. Service was poor. As a Blue Mesa customer for close to 30 years my meal today was the most disappointing I've ever had. I got the Mesa sampler to go. When I got home there was no jalapeño relish or guac or garnishes of any kind. It was just quesadillas, nachos and chicken McNuggets rather than the flautas they used to serve. I would have done better today at Taco Bell. Come on Blue Mesa let's show a little pride in the food you serve at pretty high prices. read more
