To answer this question, I had to engage in field work, so I entered the restaurant and proceeded to the bar. The restaurant is laid out in a similar manner to all the others. People talk about cookie cutter homes; there are cookie cutter restaurants as well. I guess if it is working, why change? I sat at the bar and ordered my favorite: Meserita, straight up. It was very good, indistinguishable from Inwood Village. But as all good scientists know, sample size is important. One may be an outlier. So, I had another. There, proof was confirmed. Love this spot for the chicken flautas, guacamole, and mole enchiladas--they're consistently my favorites. The complimentary chips and salsa are also a great touch and always hit the spot. Service has been friendly and quick each time I've visited, and there's plenty of seating available. I especially love the sunroom seating, though they also have darker/shadier sections if you prefer a less bright atmosphere. Plus, they offer a full bar, which is a nice bonus. Upon arriving it was very busy and I thought we wouldn't get a seat but we were seated right away. Our table was not fully wiped down and the seats were dirty as well. YUM!! Really loved this restaurant. They start by giving free chips with a trio of 3 salsas and each one had such great flavor. They give each person there own little cup of chips which I thought was so cute. The queso was on the thicker side but had a great cheesy flavor. The dine-in space was well-decorated and had a lively vibe. One of the main highlights of this location is the beautiful view of the water fountain just outside the restaurant -- you can enjoy your meal with a view, which really adds to the experience. We tried the chicken and shrimp tacos -- the food was okay, nothing extraordinary. Parking was a bit of a challenge as the area is quite busy. Overall, a decent experience. They bring you a trio salsa platter which the green salsa is my favorite as it has avocado pieces in it but the only minor complaint is the chips they brought with it was a bit cold. For the main meal, I ordered the shrimp tacos, and they were absolutely delicious. They shrimp tacos were very fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The staff were phenomenal, the drinks were amazing, and the food left me absolutely stuffed. The marg was tasty, just the right strength to get a little buzzed. We had the ceviche to begin our dinner. It tasted nice and fresh with a healthy citrus squeeze. I loved that the chips for the table were served in individual cups and the salsas went well with everything. We kinda shared everything amongst the table. We dined at Mesero for a family luncheon on a Wednesday afternoon. All the dining venues were packed, but Messero was practically empty.. RED FLAG!!!!! We declined appetizers, and ordered our entrees. 3 of us got a pork dish... not certain the exact name, but thinking it would be like carnitas. Our pork entrees arrived, and it looked like a roast on the plate, with a tiny scoop of rice. We tried to jazz the meat up with some of the salsa that comes with the chips, but it was still rather plain. No guacamole or sour cream, or any tortillas even!!!!! One of us ordered the seared tuna nachos, and when it came out, thete were 4 chips......4 topped with a meager portion of tuna. Now to be fair, we didn't specify this was for our entree, but we declined appetizers, so thought the entree portion was a given. Our server was very nice, and our drinks were never empty. The food was yummy - 5 stars! The ambiance (especially the patio) are amazing - 5 stars! The service was not great - 2 stars. This was our first visit, double date night! and we were treated to a patio seat on the first amazing night of the season. We had a reservation for four and when two of us checked in early, letting the hostess know we were happy to wait until the other two arrived, she assured us it was no big deal to seat us early. Our waitress was not too thrilled, nor did her mood or attitude change through the evening. We were accidentally seated with no menus, so when our waitress arrived a few minutes later asking what we wanted to drink and we were not ready, stating we'd like drink menus, she huffed and walked away to get us menus. As she handed them to us, again she asked "what would you like to drink?" As kindly as we could we asked for a moment to read through the options, but could we have water. She turned and walked away. A few moments later a kind & smiling gentlemen brought us water, chips & the salsa trio. When our waitress finally returned to get our drink order we were ready! When the rest of our party arrived, they had literally just picked up the drink menu when the waitress did the same to them. We all did our best to be as patient and kind as we could to her, giving her the benefit of the doubt (maybe she had a bad day, her kid was sick, she got some bad news, etc). She was clearly frustrated we wouldn't be ordering any starters and I don't recall if she checked on us once our meals were delivered, but I'd like to say she did. Our dinner plates had been cleared for some time when we finally flagged her down to ask for dessert menus, she acted put-off and was even more frustrated (body language and a verbal "huff") when only one of us ordered dessert. She dropped the checks at the same time the dessert was brought and when she circled around a few moments later she picked up clearly EMPTY checks (we hadn't put our cards in yet) she made an big deal of saying "oh they're empty" and laying them back down in the middle of the table! We all cringed for her and without waiting another moment handed her our cards. She brought them back very quickly and we never saw her again. Our waters were never filled again and our chips, which we had asked to be re-filled during dinner, had never been refilled. We all agreed we would try Mesero again, the food and ambiance were good enough to come back, and hopefully this waitress has moved on or her future days got better. read more

We were greeted by Fernando (General Manager) and promptly shown to our table. It was our first time dining here at this location after over five years. Food was still delicious, service was still attentive without being intrusive, and the traditional, classy ambiance and modern flair with the pops of color had the wow factor I remembered and so loved on our first visit.
