All I can say is amazing! Today was my first time going into Blue Oak, and I have no complaints. I ordered the berry smash toast and it was amazing!!! I also tired the banana nut bread latte (I think that's the name) it was the best latte I've had. The latte was perfectly made not to sweet and really taste like banana bread. I just found my new favorite coffee shop. The customer service was also great! The two ladies in there were whom I believe are the owners were amazing! Tucked in a corner of 20th there is a great new coffee place that is doing it right. Roasting their own coffee on site and baking fresh everyday this place serves the treats with smiles. There were out of the makings for the sticky toffee latte (morning after the parade) so I went with the banana bread latte. I am usually not a fan of banana flavors but one smell and I was excited to taste. It is a little sweet (i will request less sweet next time) but it really tasted like a warm piece of banana bread! Fantastic New coffee shop! I love, love, love that they roast their own coffee locally (Tehachapi). I tried their "Butterbeer Latte" and it was wonderful. The kids downed a strawberry smoothie in no time and shared a maple walnut scone with no complaints (a rare thing with kids, I know!). Definitely will be coming back here again soon. The Iced Caramel Banana Latte is uniquely delicious! I was a little skeptical on ordering this because I was afraid that the banana flavor was gonna outshine the flavor of the coffee. But to my surprise, the flavors the coffee, caramel and banana are perfectly balanced. The Iced Thai Tea was also great! This is the most disgusting coffee shop I've been to in Bakersfield. The place is a disgusting mess. The owners are sloppy and don't wash their hands after handling money and touching the cash register. There is also the sweetest feral cats they fed in front of the store therefore they have cat food all over the front of the store and cat food stored with their coffee. The owner came out of the store and screamed at my 3 year old little girl for petting "her" feral cat. Clearly these sloppy people don't know the definition of feral cat because that means unowned stray cat therefore means it's not her cat and my kids CAN pet the cat. When I confronted her about yelling at my kids and my concern for the shop being filthy she told me to get out and that I wasn't allowed in her shop ever again. That to me is discrimination and I'll be taking this very serious. I'm being discriminated against because my kids were petting a feral cat. read more

I am a Starbucks fan, but decided I needed to support local businesses more often, so my husband and I went to Blue Oak. We noticed that the employees were not wearing gloves or masks, nor was another patron. When I said "No masks here??" The employee answered unapologetically "up to the customer!" Not ok for the person making and handling my drink to be unmasked, even if this is Kern County! I don't believe anyone should be unmasked in such a setting, but especially not the employees!!! I love banana bread and lately I've been seeing them on coffee shops menus and this one by far has been my favorite to this day. My buddy has been raving about the pastries and coffee at this place, so I gave them a try. Bought a few drinks and pastries for myself and my family a few weeks back. When I arrived to pick them up, I realized not a single person was wearing a mask, I felt bad, so I purchased them anyway. Needless to say, I had to toss everything out due to the possibility of getting Covid; no coffee nor pastry is worth that hell. I appreciate a great coffee joint so I acknowledge this review may be too strict/picky for some: Pros: relaxing environment, nice music, overall service, friendly staff, extremely fair prices on all items, love the coffee bags, decent menu options, they offer some tea options too Cons: espresso was not great, no pour-over options, big one for me: their drip coffee is kept in carafes (who knows how long it's been there?) made me not want to try it, no roast date on their bags of beans, minimal selection for roasted beans. No inside bathroom for guests. If you call yourself a coffee roaster, I believe there should be options to really accentuate your roasts and bring out their best qualities. It's your business and you're competing with Rig City which is literally 1 block away. Multiple brew options and professional brewing techniques would really let this place shine a little brighter.
