Great place for an excellent burger! Green Chile is served on the side and now I know why! It's juicy and if they put it on the burger it would be soggy. They have outdoor seating and it was a perfect day for lunch outdoors! Service was awesome. We called ahead and our order was ready when we walked in! This is a great local burger joint. Their burgers really do stand out. Living in Dallas, we have a lot of local and speciality burger spots, and I think that Blue Sky could hold their own. They have a no nonsense type of burger recipe. Everything is layered perfectly: lettuce, tomato, onion, etc. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with a side of tator tots. The burger patty is slightly smaller than I was expecting. But with the veggies, it was a good and filling meal. This is a great spot and a delicious burger! Great for lunch but even better for dinner because then I feel less guilty about enjoying my green chili cheese burger with a cold beer. Friendly and efficient staff serves delicious two-handed burgers. Sides are big too (after all, it is TX) so I recommended half orders. You'll be torn about what sides to pick but you can't go wrong because they are all excellent. My favs are the jalapeño chips and chili cheese fries. Additional observations and more reasons to love Blue Sky: - Counter service's lack of a tip jar. - Intelligent staff. - Hygiene is excellent. - Nice variety of iced teas, and a treat to find unsweetened peach. - "Still hungry counter" so you don't have to stand back in the regular (usual long) order counter line. My friend and I got takeout from here, and I was super disappointed. First of all, my burger was supposed to come with tomato and pickles, but I didn't receive either of those. I specifically ordered it without lettuce, and when I opened it, there was lettuce everywhere. I had to pick it all off, which took all my mayo and mustard with it. The beef itself was good. I just don't understand why people can't follow simple instructions. We ordered one bacon cheeseburger, one double cheeseburger, sweet potato fries and one chile sticks. This was $37, or roughly 18.50 each! Their online menu had no prices on it, but I never thought it would be so expensive for two burgers and some greasy sides!! Needless to say, we won't be back. Food was great, but workers can't seem to get simple request right. I asked them to put paper on top of my wings as well as underneath, of the togo box . So that the hot grease from the wings don't burn the plastic if the box , and I'm not eating poisonous melted plastic. And her answer to that was , I can give you a new box. I've been in town for almost 4 months and never stopped in here until tonight. Mainly it was because I'm trying to stay away from hamburger and fries kinds of meals. I finally broke down and started going to some of the hamburger places in town, Five Guys, Coyote Bluff, Sonic, just maybe once every couple of weeks. I was actually headed for Olive Garden, trying to make it in time for their early bird special which ended at 6 but I got caught at a long light and it was going to be after 6 when I arrived. I popped in to Michaels since it was after 6 anyway and asked the clerk when I checked out if she was familiar with Blue Sky, except I called Big Sky, LOL, since I'm not from Amarillo. After correcting me she told me it was one of her favorite places so I decided to go there instead. They don't have a menu board posted that I could see and I didn't know where to get a menu but while I was in line with a couple people ahead of me I heard the guy ahead telling his people that this was the best hamburger in Amarillo. I'd already eaten at Coyote Bluff so was hard to imagine this could be better than that but I figured it must be pretty good. The menu board says they cook them slightly pink inside but there was no pink inside mine. It was very juicy with great flavor, though. I ordered a cheeseburger with the works on it, decided to splurge $0.99 on guacamole, and asked if I could get half fries and half onion rings instead of all of one. She said yes. That turned out to be about $4.50, more than I realized. I just ordered water but when I went to get my water I saw that they had many different flavors of tea. If I'd known that I might have gotten a mint tea and I will definitely get one next time or stop by for just that sometime. Anyway, my meal came to a little over $12, more than I was expecting, but everything was delicious. The fries weren't as crispy as I would have liked but they tasted wonderful. They must be hand cut fresh potatoes because they sure didn't taste like frozen. The onion rings wouldn't hold their shape and we're definitely very greasy but again they tasted delicious and I wasn't sorry I got them. I probably ate enough sodium and grease tonight to hold me for a week or more but it was a very good tasting meal, and it will be tomorrow because I was only able to eat half of it. I brought the rest back to my room and will eat it tomorrow. The bun wasn't very thick and I don't know if it was toasted or not but it didn't take long to get soggy. However, it didn't start to fall apart immediately like the burger I had at Five Guys. In fact is held its shape to the end even though it was getting pretty moist. They are very efficient and have a lot of people back in the cooking area to produce those Burgers and Fries. It did not take long at all for me to receive my food. They seem to have a good system going. They post your number in a lit up sign over the pick up counter and you just watch for that and go get your food when it's ready. If I was in the mood for a burger I would definitely choose this place over Sonic or Five Guys. I haven't tasted burgers at a lot of other places. I noticed they had a protein plate on the menu so I might try that next time, two burgers are two pieces of grilled chicken and a side salad. This a very family-oriented atmosphere also. Lots of chatter and friendliness going on. I even saw signs of a birthday party, a dad carrying a cake and a mom carrying some presents. Last month we were driving through Amarillo and stopped at the Blue Sky for an early dinner and oh my, what a delicious burger! The burgers were super tender and juicy, no gristle at all, and a perfect size; not too small but not so big it stretches out the corners of your lips (if ya know what I mean). The bacon on top the burger was perfectly cooked; crispy. The cheese perfectly melted and the lettuce, tomatoes and pickle were fresh. The bun was perfectly heated; soft where it needed to be and toasted where it needed to be. The fries and thin onion rings were delicious and a right amount. The atmosphere was great as well. Service was friendly and fast and the place was very clean. You can see the pride that they take in every aspect of their restaurant. Currently visiting Amarillo and we decided to try this place out since everyone here raved about it. Came on a Thursday afternoon for an early dinner. You have to order as you walk in, menus are in the register area and one posted on the wall while you wait in line. We opted for the kids Hot Dog and Fries for our small children. My Husband got their famous cheeseburger with everything plus guacamole. I got their grilled chicken sandwich with everything plus pickles. For sides we got their large order of half onion rings and half fries. We didn't wait long for our order to be ready, which was great. The place was somewhat packed when we got there. Our order was well presented and looked great, but quite honestly their 'large' order of fries & onion rings did not look like a large at all, more like a small. The portions were not that much either. The onion rings were pretty good though and went well with their ranch (you have to ask for some at the register area). My chicken sandwich was okay. The chicken itself was very dry and the burger buns was drenched in mayo. What helped it was the added pickles. My Husband didn't care much for his cheeseburger, he said it lacked some seasoning (the burger patty) and was somewhat dry too. My kids liked their hot dogs and fries though, they ate all of theirs. I usually get full off my burger/sandwich, but for the first time I can honestly say I didn't get full at all. Was still hungry after the onion rings/fries and my sandwich were gone. Somewhat bummed about that. Reason for my three stars is due to the dry meat patty & chicken breast along with the small portion of sides. For some reason Blue Sky was all the rave amongst out of towners, but I was a little perplexed after my experience. Now, I'd like the preface that the service was great, the restaurant was clean, which can be a struggle enough at some places, but here were some things I sadly fell a little flat. A handful of local brews, but wishing for more. The green chile cheese fries were a soggy and limp disappointment. Fries in general are not Blue Sky's strong suit. The burgers I would rank average. It wasn't anything life altering, but it was... ok. The soft brioche-esque buns allow the grease to soak in and make for a nice burger eating experience. I think a milkshake would have been a great addition to the meal, but declined on this trip. Do I think Blue Sky make's Amarillo's best burger? Probably not. I think I'd rather seek a more hole in the wall type place, than settle on Blue Sky as the best of Texas. You'll find the hints of Texas here, but I just feel like I've had better. I ordered a cheeseburger with mayo, mustard, onion, and lettuce. My husband had a plain bacon cheeseburger and we shared an order of half fries/half onion rings. My burger was a little heavy on the mustard but overall it was a fairly pretty good burger. The star if the day for me was their onion rings. They were crispy and thin so the onions cooked down and got sweet. The breading was salty and delicious. Overall it was a good experience but neither of us were blown away. read more

I had to stop for supplies at a nearby store, and when I pulled this place up on Yelp I saw it had great reviews and was only about 2 miles from me. It lived up to the billing, depending on your burger preferences. This style of burger is very juicy and quite big around. If you order it with "everything" it comes piled high with lettuce, tomatoes, and pickles. I also ordered green chile (I'm from New Mexico, after all) and it made the burger even more juicy -- a generous portion served on the side, and nicely spicy. You burn through a lot of napkins eating one of these guys, but they are really tasty and incredibly satisfying (unless you're a dry burger fan).
