Ate breakfast here today. They have dine-in and outdoor seating available. There is adequate seating inside with enough spacing. It would have been more comfortable if there were back pillows on the wooden benches so you're not just sitting against flat hard wood. There's a wall inside of interesting artwork for sale. Staff are wearing masks and there's hand sanitizers on the counter right after you walk in through the front door. Currently, they are charging 5% surcharge for the extra cost they incurred due to COVID. Placed my order with the cashier at the counter, then she gave me a number for my order. Chose one of the tables to sit at inside and the food was brought over by the waitress when it was done. I love sweet breakfast meals so it was disappointing that their menu didn't have many sweet options, other than waffles and parfait. Ended up trying the buttermilk waffle with blueberry compote and yogurt. You can alter the order, such as substitute something else for the yogurt as well as ask for the blueberry compote and yogurt on the side. The waffles were cut into quarters and stacked on top of each other, covered with the blueberries, yogurt, and syrup. I liked that it was soft, fluffy, had some crispy edges, but I didn't like that it had fake syrup. The fake syrup gave an unpleasant aftertaste. Could only finish about half of the waffles. I also ordered one of their popular hot chocolates, cookies and cream. Definitely recommend to try their hot chocolates. It took a while to get the hot chocolate-it arrived after I got my waffles. It was served in a compostable 16 oz double-wall cup. The cookies and cream hot chocolate basically tasted like Oreos. It was thick, creamy, and sweet, topped with three toasted marshmallows and garnished with small pieces of milk chocolate. Either eat the marshmallows right away or let it slowly melt into the hot chocolate. The only thing I didn't like was that the marshmallows were not thoroughly toasted and evenly browned. I was hoping more of a campfire-like toasted marshmallow, but sadly these were not that. I have tried their mojo pork dinner entree in the past, which was decently good. For those that care, straws are usually not given with drinks in order to protect the turtles. Staff were friendly. In summary, this is a good place to catch up with friends over a good meal. read more

Well, we have been coming here every time we are in town for years. But this will be the last time unfortunately. The kids burger is a full size bun with a breakfast sausage patty. Beachy with a white and blue color scheme, the room is big and airy. We liked the place when we walked in. The menu is on the chalk board above the display of drinks. Choices are sandwiches, salads and burgers, and desserts. Most meals include a side. There's a kid's menu, too, that includes the regular offerings, plus quesadillas. Drinks include sodas, beers, juices, stelzers, and hot and cold coffees. Breakfast is served until noon and all day on Sunday. For lunch we had the Cuban sandwich with red potato salad, and a seasonal curry pumpkin impossible burger with a marinated chick pea salad. Everything was delicious. The food is good, and the servers work hard, but they are understaffed, the tables are stickier than the Waffle House, and the coffee today was served with coffee grounds floating throughout the coffee. Decent sandwich shop, good food, but staff needs to remember that clearing a table includes wiping down table tops, not just removing dirty plates. We are there two days ago, and the first three tables we were going to sit at had not been wiped down. Another customer wiped down his own table. I have no idea how this place has four stars. It is testament to just how low the bar is here in Wilmington. Ordered breakfast. I really didn't want meat, but eggs, breakfast potato and toast. I asked to sub fruit instead of the included Sausage AND bacon and was told there would be a substitution charge. Really? Then the order taker remarked to a friend that she "cannot drink our coffee without some sort of sweetener." She was right. Coffee was harsh, acidic and bitter. Half of the potatoes on my plate were inedible as they were burnt to a crisp. Not crispy, which Is good, but burnt to the point of being inedible/ unchewable. See photos. Bread was not sourdough as requested (thick white) and was dry. No butter or jam was brought to the table. The eggs and the few potatoes I could eat glistened with the oil they no doubt squirt over the food/grill. The food was just yuk. It looked as bad as it tasted and no one returned to the table to ask. But of course I was treated to the flip of the screen to add the tip for walk up service upon ordering. Yes! Thank you for existing. Good quality food that you can feel good about eating. This is a place I would feel comfortable bringing my mother when she comes down to visit from coastal Connecticut. Clean, beachy and relaxed, "healthy," without being obnoxious, options for everyone, even the kids. A place where I don't need to worry about hidden butter or cheese. Truly a blessing. I think it's pretty rare to find a vegetable wrap that I don't have to modify to avoid cheese. It was delicious and perfectly portioned. The vegetable quinoa was great too. It's also rare in my opinion to find a warm, flavorful, side of quinoa served and not just a cold quinoa salad. To be honest I would have been happy with either option, but the quinoa I got was so unexpectedly warm and comforting to eat. Even the pb&j I got for my 3 year old was good quality. But Blue Surf totally delivered! They have gluten free bread for a small fee (standard) and many delish sandwich combos. I had the classic Cubano Sandwich and it was jam packed with ingredients, enough to split for a light meal. I opted for the side salad which I'd skip next time & try one of the more enticing sides (like the quinoa veg). After grabbing coffee with a friend we hunted around for a place to have some brunch. It seemed all the regular haunts were full up, being a Sunday morning I wasn't surprised and I'd heard about Blue Surf. The menu boasted the usual breakfast/brunch favorites and I immediately gravitated to the maple bacon waffles. I'm a girl who doesn't like eggs, omelets or anything of the sort and usually is perfectly happy with biscuits and gravy for brunch but unfortunately the waffles had me wowed. Big and fluffy and the bacon....SO MUCH BACON. My companion sampled one and was equally as pleased. I would say that adding mimosas to the menu might help for brunch but you can't necessarily have everything you want. Will definitely put it on the list of brunch places for friends! read more

I have been here a few times since moving and I have to say it is surely a go to spot for lunch for me. It's adorable inside and out with plenty of seating at both. If you're eating alone, there's a few spots with bar tops that you can people watch (who doesn't love that?). Breakfast and lunch have been checked, all I need is someone to go to dinner with me there! For lunch, my go to is the Baja Tacos with shrimp and the mango arugula salad - YES. I didn't think I would like the salad but it was so so refreshing, my breath might smell like onions, sorry friends. The tacos are a perfect size for me and not too messy. I went for breakfast the other day and ordered the buttermilk waffles with caramelized banana and I was not disappointed in my order! I cannot eat that much but still decided a side of scrambled eggs would be nice. The sirracha ketchup, I think that's what it was, was a nice touch. The waffles were stacked with tons of bananas, syrup, slivered almonds, and granola - A DREAM. I took it with the daily lemonade that just put the cherry on top.
