Favorite of all is probably "shiitake to me." We recently came here for a birthday and we were treated so kindly! I wanted to especially mention our server Billy. Billy was INCREDIBLE. He was so kind, efficient, and really made us feel special. He even came by after we ate dinner and wiped down our table before serving our desert. Our server never refilled our water, forgot adjustments we requested, and asked if we were ready for the check while we were mid-bite. I can't stop trying all the different sushi spots Lincoln Park has to offer, and the fact that they've all been 5 stars to me is a blessing (so many great options) and a curse (so hard to choose). For Blue Sushi Sake, I gotta say what sells me on them is their happy hour deals. We dined here for the first time on a Sunday which has all day happy hour!! Amazing cocktails, many of which are under $10, awesome appetizers and sushi rolls at decent discounts ($1-$3 off regular price on average). Our server was also so sweet and cool! She explained the whole menu to us and gave us some great recommendations, like if you order the shishito peppers, save the extra sauce they're sautéed in to dip your sushi. 10/10. read more

I genuinely don't know what's going on with Chicago sushi, but after multiple places now, I'm convinced California has completely spoiled me. We came here because the reviews were actually pretty solid, and honestly, the presentation gave me high hopes. Everything LOOKED amazing. The sushi rolls came out beautiful, well plated, visually impressive... and then somehow tasted incredibly basic. No "wow" factor, no freshness explosion, no flavor depth just very average sushi hiding behind good presentation. Now to be fair, the Tuna Tower was fantastic. That dish actually packed flavor, texture, and balance. It ended up being the best thing we ordered by far, which honestly made the sushi even more disappointing because clearly the kitchen IS capable of making something good. But the biggest issue here wasn't even the food.. it was the service. Our waiter looked absolutely miserable to be there. Not overwhelmed, not busy... just genuinely unhappy that customers existed. We came in Monday evening, got seated at the bar area, and expected quicker, more attentive service because the restaurant wasn't packed. Instead, everything felt awkward, cold, and inconvenient to him. It completely killed the vibe. To make things worse, the windows were open right next to the outdoor smoking area, so the entire meal kept getting hit with cigarette smoke drifting inside. We eventually shut the window ourselves because it was ruining the experience, but honestly by then we were already mentally checked out. I'm usually a very generous tipper, especially when service is even halfway decent, but this was one of the rare times I left a $0 tip and genuinely didn't feel bad about it. Service matters, atmosphere matters, and when the food doesn't fully deliver either, there's just no reason for me to come back. Standouts were my roja roll and the crispy brussels app. Def could've passed on the seaweed salad, usually I like this dish but this one had these huge pieces of seaweed that were a weird texture. I stumbled upon Blue Sushi while wandering, and lo and behold, they've got quite the vegan menu. And by vegan menu, it's not just cucumber and avocado rolls, or "boring as shit rolls," as they are also known. They thought this one through with some pretty intriguing plant-based experiments, and I think it's fun. Non-traditional, absolutely, but that's cool sometimes. Let me spell it out with some examples: Vegan Hot Popper: vegan smoked salmon, vegan cream cheese, vegan jalapeño tempura, soy paper, sriracha Cowgirl: pickle vegan tempura, sriracha-fried onion rings, bbq sauce, soy, vegan mayo, tonkatsu sauce Shiitake to Me: mushrooms sautéed in coconut milk, shiitake & sweet potato vegan tempura, truffle oil, thai basil, sweet soy sauce That's just three out of the nearly 20 custom vegan rolls, folks. And the others are just as wild. Combine that with several vegan nigiri options and starters, and this is one big ol' plant-based hot spot. They also have a kids' menu, including a kids' bento box that my son was super jazzed about. With a lot of the vegan options on happy hour, I really have no reason NOT to be here. The service could be a little better. Everyone is friendly for sure, but the food lags out of the kitchen, and we had to chase down our server for basics like water and napkins. My wife and I got all of our food, several rolls and starters, about 20 minutes before our kids' food came out. Have fun trying to explain to a five-year-old and his three-year-old sister why they have no food and the grown-up food just keeps coming. The place is large with a great patio for warmer days. Trendy decor, smooth vibes, the place is a total "fun date" or "late dinner hangout" spot for friends. I'm surprised they aren't open later, but 10 PM is decent. I'm definitely a fan. Happy hour all day Sunday... need I say more?! Arrived around 7:15pm, the wait for two people was over an hour. Luckily, there were two seats left at the bar so we grabbed those and were served right away. Inside was cute, had a lounge feel. They have a cute patio outside as well. NFL on the TV by the bar, which is essential for Sundays. We got a little of everything, and it all came out super hot like we had to wait for it to cool down before digging in. Everything was good, but special shoutout to the mango crab Rangoons and crispy rice cake! Happy hour has a limited selection of rolls to choose from, but still plenty of options. Went here on a Thursday for happy hour with a party of six and we had such a great experience! Service was super attentive as our server checked in often, kept waters full, and made sure everything came out quickly even though the place was busy. We got edamame (get the garlic- it's not spicy, rather strong fresh garlic), crab Rangoon (yes, please, more), truffle salmon (fine but not really truffley so I wouldn't order again), salad with carrot ginger dressing (two people can share this), a blue kani roll (fine, I'll try something else next time), and the tidal wave (very filling and yum). This place is such a vibe and the service is phenomenal but the quality of food was pretty mid imo. We got 2 types of sashimi and I thought the fish wasn't as smooth as other sushi places I've tried. The crispy rice in the cherry bomb nigiris were more soggy than crispy. The cucumber salad had a weird aftertaste and I paid extra for the grilled octopus which was dry and chewy. Crab rangoons were ok but you can definitely find similar ones for cheaper elsewhere. I think this would be a cute spot for a cocktail and small bite or IG pics but after my dining experience here, i can't really recommend a full fledged meal here. read more

Blue Sushi has SUCH a great happy hour! I recently came here for a girls night and we basically took over the bar. We were all able to enjoy happy hour cocktails, apps, sushi rolls, and dessert! I especially love this spot for their vegan / vegetarian sushi since I don't really care for seafood. Not only is it offered, but it's really good! I recommend Thai Hippie for a roll and the Blue Tini or White Peach Daquiri for cocktails. The bar area is always nice and has a friendly bartender ready to answer questions if needed. read more

We came to Blue Sushi during their Happy Hour; 2pm-6pm. I suggest visiting during Happy Hour, so you can taste a variety of things at a fraction of the regular menu price. I was interested in their vegan items, being that I eat plant-based. They have a very extensive and impressive list of vegan options on the menu. The kombu miso soup is vegan and was very delicious. I had the Spicy Kaluna Crunch Roll which was good, just good, but nothing exciting or that I'd order again. The star of the show was my cocktail; the White Peach Daiquiri. It was just the right amount of mango rum, and the mix of flavors were on point. Normally, I don't like boba, but the boba in this drink isn't that tapioca chewy boba balls, they were like little flavor bubbles, they were delicious and complimentary. I highly recommend this cocktail! My brother enjoyed his food; especially, The Lion King. He didn't care for his cocktail, the China Doll, he said it was lacking alcohol. Our waiter, Lane, was lovely and attentive, and gave a great recommendation to my brother. Fresh and delicious! I appreciated how the salad had no extra moisture so the wontons were very crunchy, and the dressing was delicious. The chicken was a little dry, but everything else about the salad was spot on. The Spicy Tekka was delicious. It had a lot of flavor, fish was buttery smooth, and the spicy flavor had a kick that was not mayo base. There is a lot of searing room and there was a host right when I walked in. We're big fans of Blue Sushi in Indianapolis, and wanted to give this location a try. The restaurant is conveniently located near Lincoln park and is very nice inside. We got seated right away, and our server was very friendly. Food quality and the menu between the two locations are excellent, and we appreciate the quick service. You can't go wrong with Amazon, South Pacific, Roja, Hawaiian, or Philadelphia rolls. For rolls I ordered the Lion King, which was a crab roll with cucumber, salmon, eel sauce and chili aioli. The roll had a great flavor profile the spicy salmon really elevated the roll. Additionally I ordered the the Thriller which was shrimp tempura, crab, ponzu and a creamy thriller sauce. While a similar vibe to the Lion King, the thriller sauce was so bold in flavor had a good spice and was saucy so added a different texture experience to the sushi! I loved it! I had two cocktails during my visit both tasty with a good punch. Trust me you only need two lol. Bluetini was a blueberry martini and the Saketini was a martini with sake in it. I should have seen previous reviews, but sushi was in fact expensive for the quality and amount of fish each roll had. I was also hoping for a more authentic vibe but I had overestimated what I was expecting. These rolls are a spin off of your usual rolls, with non-raw, raw, and vegan options. Nigiri (2 for $10) and sashimi options (5 thin pieces for $17) were also very expensive. The waitress was slow to fill our waters and our food took longer than expected to come out despite the place being empty. It was definitely an experience trying out their rolls and sashimi on the menu, the Hawaiian roll and Hotel Cali (both warm and fried in tempura batter) were not great, one had mango in the center that gave the roll a tart taste, the second had a sweet thai dressing, not a fan unfortunately 2/5. The Lion King and Cabo rolls lacked flavor and the filling overwhelmed the small amounts of raw salmon/tuna filling that went with it 3/5. The Tuna Tatake was refreshing but very thin, it was almost translucent. I think this establishment is suitable for those who are new to or trying creative sushi rolls. However, I wouldn't recommend it for people who crave the natural and fresh taste of seafood/fish. read more
