This is a classic NJ diner! We had breakfast on a busy Saturday morning for four people and Joy was our server and she was nice and polite and recommended dishes for breakfast. The food was fantastic from over easy eggs to baklava French toast to gluten free waffles all excellent ! Ideal location off route 35 for a quick bite to eat. The food is average. What you would expect from a diner. Went around 11 am on a Friday and it was pretty busy but no wait. Waiter was very nice but had to be reminded a few times to bring things that we had originally ordered. While on vacation in the area, we stopped at the Blue Swan Diner today on the recommendation of my niece-in-law who went to college in the area a few years ago. The other recent reviews aside, there were women working here, there were Greek speaking waiters and both our French toast and eggs with home fries were excellent. We stopped on this diner on the way home from two breweries (Carton and Kane). Needless to say, we were famished. We walked in at around 4:30pm on a Saturday. The left side of the restaurant was dark (literally). I can understand not seating people in certain areas if it is not crowded, but the atmosphere was not too welcoming when we entered. I got the burger deluxe (burger with fries) for $7--not too bad. They brought out coleslaw and pickles before our meal was served--I would have rather had everything at once. The food was fine, although my burger was definitely not cooked how I ordered it. Two friends ordered their burgers rare and I ordered mine medium/well. My burger was clearly cooked for the same amount of time that their food was cooked. I'm sure I could have sent the burger back, but I ate it anyway. I'm not too picky, but I could see other people getting very irked at meat not being cooked to their preference. The salad bar was "open" when we entered the restaurant, but I did not see it notably advertised in the menu, nor did the waitress tell us about it. Salad bars are usually a huge sell, so I would have liked to have more information about it (although from other users'reviews, it seems like a "meh" salad bar). Favorite diner at the jersey shore. It's refreshing to have a diner that actually served fresh locally caught seafood and not the typical monotonous frozen melange of unappetizing fish. The prices are extremely reasonable and you get a lot for what you pay. It's an incredibly good value. read more

Food was surprisingly good, the potatoes had a great flavor and the eggs were perfectly cooked. The English muffin was a nice touch. However, I got bacon and the whole plate was covered with it! Too much for me but I guess if you like bacon...my sister was surprised I thought it was too much, being a bacon lover! This is our go to diner as we live down the street from it. We come for breakfast and lunch and it's always a quality experience. It's a pretty typical Jersey diner and while the menu isn't going to blow you away we always have a great experience here. Food was more expensive than other diners and they nickel and dime you. (Example, only one soda refill). Server kept touching her nose with her hand everytime she put an order in. A solid diner: Well managed, good food and friendly. Been a customer for years. One of the few diners that has a salad bar, a big plus for me. Huge selection, large servings and price range. Dinners are averaging $14-$18 now; But it includes a lot. Burgers, gyros, Rubin's wraps etc. start around $7 and go up to $12 depending. During the week they have lunch specials that are quite reasonably priced. The good: I've always had good luck with their seafood; most notably their salmon dinners. Steaks and chops are always good as well. I often find their sides to be surprisingly good; just today I enjoyed an excellent side of spinish. Made with fresh garlic and herbs;,I wanted more. Disappointments are; "asian" burger, meatloaf recipe could use a refresh. Soups are ok but could use some upgrading and less salt. Roast turkey and chicken are fine but nothing exceptional. There "baked" macaroni and cheese should be skipped. Taste like pasta with cheese sauce poured over it. Management and ownership is always present. Very attentive. They always check in see how you're enjoying your meal. If I had a complaint; it would be that occasionally they nickel and dime me. Charging me for the to go coffee, despite the fact that I had a meal paid for coffee with it. The staff often sneaks me a paper cup which is appreciated. When I have forgotten things there, they have always find and return whatever it is. Thank you. The wait staff tends to be excellent. A diverse crew age-wise, which is appreciated. Ordered the chicken sandwich on a hard roll instead of pita with claw slaw and found plastic in my claw slaw for one and the Manager only wanted to offer free dessert, when I nearly started to chew and bleed on it! Alright, this was always a tough one for us. We used to live in this crappy little apartment right next door and found ourselves here on many nights, both drunk and sober. The most disappointing thing about this place is that the owners mean well. They are the nicest people and always want to talk to you and know whats going on in your life. The food would do the trick but it was also not as good as it shouldve been. I'd always get the french dip while kim would change around her order from time to time. Basically everything seems to be a little under-seasoned and dry and sometimes cold, and sometimes overcooked, sometimes undercooked. Just general inconsistency. We had gone here dozens of times over the course of one summer just hoping to get a good meal and it was really hit or miss. I liked the french dips but ive had wayyyyyyy better. Kim had meals that were more bad than good. I hate to give this place two stars but we have no choice. The one saving grace is that their breakfast is on par with that of all diners and is suitable for any palate. Give them a try, maybe they worked the kinks out. I hope they did :) read more

I've been eating at the Blue Swan Diner for years. Great food and friendly servers. Yesterday your hostess denied us service when my wife walked in with a small cup of coffee--which, we were told, goes against diner policy. We both planned on ordering beverages with our lunch, but that wasn't good enough. Later I called to speak with the manager, who just happened to be the hostess. It made no difference; a silly and rigid policy will keep us from ever going back. Refusal of service over a $2.00 cup of coffee means you don't need our business during a global pandemic. We went to the Americana Diner in Shrewsbury -- with coffee cup in hand -- and enjoy a nice lunch. read more

Clean place, great service at 6am on a Sunday. My coffee never ran low (it was also fresh and not bitter) and the speed & quality of the food was excellent. This is a hidden gem with the star of the show being the food and it came in at a great price too. Came here on a busy Thursday for lunch. Parking was difficult as the lot is awkward. Given the large crowd I expect a lot more. Was seated timely but waited about 15 minutes to be greeted at our table. Took our orders right away and the food came out quick. I ordered a pesto chicken sandwich which was mediocre. For the price I expected A larger portion of fries. When finished we waited another 25 minutes for the check and then found out they charged extra for BBQ sauce. What a joke.
