Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Bluebeard, and while the restaurant had an incredible vibe, I must admit that it just wasn't my favorite. Spoiler alert. I had only heard of Bluebeard prior to my visit, and I was drawn to the restaurant because my friend was celebrating their birthday. We love turning up for our friends! Upon looking at the menu, I noticed some awesome offerings, but unfortunately, many of them didn't appeal to my personal taste. It was a tough decision between the bolognese pasta and the steak, but I ultimately chose the bolognese. However, it was just okay. The taste didn't leave a lasting impression on me, and I ended up only consuming about a third of it before taking the rest home, where it met its fate in the fridge. That being said, there were two aspects that truly stood out and deserved a solid 5 out of 5. Firstly, the customer service was exceptional. Our server was incredibly attentive and provided helpful recommendations when it came to selecting cocktails. Their attentiveness added to the overall positive experience. Secondly, the bread pudding was outstanding. As someone who loves desserts, I can confidently say that this bread pudding did not disappoint. It was the highlight of my meal. One thing to note is that Bluebeard's menu changes daily, and I appreciate their commitment to offering new culinary experiences. Despite my mixed experience on this visit, I am open to returning in the future to explore more of their offerings. I would like to extend my appreciation to Bluebeard for making my friend's birthday celebration a special one. The ambiance and attentive service contributed to a memorable evening. I ventured into Fletcher Place for a luncheon this afternoon and was immediately drawn to a grand establishment sporting the prominent exterior signage: Bluebeard. The initial arrival was entirely seamless, as the venue features a wonderfully accommodating, dedicated parking area. Upon crossing the threshold, I discovered a lovely sanctuary that felt absolutely perfect for a relaxing intermission. While the exterior facade hints at a grander scale, the interior architecture is actually quite intimate, elegantly centered around a beautifully structured small bar. The atmosphere was delightfully quiet and serene. A thoroughly charming gentleman extended a remarkably warm greeting and promptly escorted me to an excellent, highly comfortable seat. To begin my mid-day refreshment, I requested a crisp Flower Girl cocktail. While enjoying my beverage, I engaged in a brief, lovely conversation with the bartender regarding their premium, high-end spirit selections. He was immensely knowledgeable and friendly. The interior aesthetic possesses a wonderfully warm soul, and the caliber of customer service is entirely flawless. For my luncheon entrée, I selected a small chop salad from the menu. The efficiency of the kitchen was highly commendable, presenting the dish to my table within a swift ten minutes. The culinary execution was a complete triumph remarkably fresh, beautifully composed, and exceptionally healthy. This delightful find has completely captured my favor. We have been wanting to try this place after hearing many different reviews ranging from outstanding to really bad, so we had to try for ourselves. We chose a Tuesday night to try an easy night to relax and take it all in. The atmosphere was very casual and unassuming. Not at all what we expected, but okay. The crowd seemed to be a mix of trendy hipsters and suburbanites trying to be trendy. Our server was pleasant; not friendly, not cold, just pleasant. She was somewhat knowledgeable of the menu, but when everything on the menu is "fantastic" I do get a bit suspicious. The menu sounded amazing; unique parings and choices of foods. We ending up ordering one "small" and two "medium" plates. The small plate was very small for the price. Three pieces of duck heart bruschetta. The duck was very good - well cooked and tender. The concept was good; duck heart, mascarpone, and pickled onion - but it just missed. There was too much creamy texture and not enough of the pickled onion or crunch of the bruschetta. Our medium plates were the Buffalo Sweet Breads and Coho Salmon and Fried Green tomato. If all the dishes were like the salmon, this would be a five star review! Fantastic mix of texture and flavor; it lived up to the description. The sweetbreads were a complete miss. Overcooked, tough, chewy. My date said they might as well have been chicken nuggets in buffalo sauce. Overall it seems like they are trying too hard to be trendy. Let the food speak for itself - don't try too hard and this will work. read more

We've been to Bluebeard a handful of times over the years, including for what was then called Devour Downtown, and have enjoyed ourselves every time. The service is consistently impeccable, with highly personable staff that don't get too into your business but keep your drinks full. Bluebeard is great because the menu is limited, using more seasonal items, and they use local bread. After a trip to New Orleans, the SO and I decided that we were v into raw oysters, and when I saw that Bluebeard had them on the menu AND had them for $1 on Sunday's I knew we had to stop in. The oysters, although smaller than what we saw on the Gulf Coast, were quality and came with traditional cocktail sauce as well as a tarragon vinegar type dressing. I'm all about the cocktail sauce and horseradish in general, but I'm 90% sure that tarragon dressing was a spiritual awakening and I can never look back. We ordered two rounds of oysters, and it was a perfect match with cocktails. One thing I really appreciate about Bluebeard is that we weren't made to feel guilty about not eating a full meal while taking up valuable space in the dining room - something that has happened at other establishments before. It's definitely going to become one of our regular go-to's for Sunday evening drinks Pro-tip: if there's a wait for a table, hop across the street to Hotel Tango and have a cocktail! read more

What a delight - from the decor to the personal and of course the cuisine. This restaurant is also a bakery so forget the carbs and start by getting the bread with three spreads. Then dive into the craft cocktail menu - my choice, True Stories (fords gin, fruitlab hops, honey, lemon, cucumber, absinthe, peychaud's bitters) was declious. I then gorged on a dozen and a half oysters ($1 each) these days a bargain. My wife ordered the Halibut and I the Duck - both cooked perfectly. Coffee was served in French press and the desert of Bread Pudding got even my wife, who has never found a bread pudding she likes, was raving about this one. That's high praise. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. Our meal ran about $230 including cocktails, 2 glasses of wine and tip. In the category of what I consider a "gastropub" it rates 5 stars. They have al fresco dining available - which was full when we arrived but the interior was very cool with the what looked like the original beams, brick and wood of the warehouse it used to be. Give it a shot - I'm confident you'll enjoy a wonderful meal at Bluebeard. read more

First and foremost, definitely sit on the patio. It's splendid. Be outside. Enjoy the light. Enjoy the fresh air. Enjoy people watching as people stroll or bike down the street. Do that. Secondly, Bluebeard is top notch, but it's more of a "special occasion" or "I'm feeling rich today" kinda restaurant over being a "I'll just pop in" kinda place because it is on the higher end price wise. Though, I won't discredit them at all for it because by the end of the experience there, you'll feel that it is worth it. The beverages are all remarkable and complex and pleasing. I love that they use the local bakery Amelia's for their bread (which is my fave bakery probably ever). The dishes we enjoyed the most were the beet salad and the roasted cauliflower, though everything we tried seemed special and unlike any other dish that was presented before it. I would recommend going on a week night because I tried three separate times before on weekends and the wait was approximately 90 minutes. But anyways. Finally had the opportunity to visit for lunch- and it was amazing. The hostess was friendly and seated us right away. We barely had the opportunity to gawk at all the cool decorations when our server arrived with water- in an old green bottle, cool! He explained that only fresh bread is served- they bake it everyday. All ingredients are high quality and local- that this is the freshest food you have had in a long time. And he was right! I ordered the Polpetta (basically a meatball sub) and my co-worker, on the suggestion of our server, had the Citta (ham sandwich). The portions were just right and the homemade chips were delicious. When it was time for our bill it was delivered to us in an old (1948- we looked at the copyright page) book. All in all ...nothing is overlooked at BlueBeard from the nice, attentive folks that work there to the funky details like old typewriters on the wall. Attended an event here and the experience was absolutely amazing. One of the best dining experience ever. Everything on the menu was great, like what they say salad here is perfect dressing is really good. I also try salmon and it didn't disappoint me the sauce is flavorful. I tried spaghetti, it so cheesy with a kick of lemon. deserts here is a must too! chess pie, bread pudding, chocolate torte they're all good. The food here has a different kind of flavor which is I like. They also have a variety of drinks from wine to cocktail. They also offer $1 oysters every Sunday which is fantastic for those who love oyster. Staff was easy to call out. The place is so elegant. I highly recommend it especially when you are adventurous type of person on food, this is a place to go! read more

So we walked into this place and the cold hearted, dark haired hostess told us we had to order food to get drinks so we sat down. We walked up to the bar to look at the taps and the same terrible chick came and told us to sit down because we should be waited on. We sat down and the same girl came up and reminded us we had to buy food to order any type of drinks. Our party of six assured her we would buy some food. Then this evil waitress/hostess demanded our order. At this point we gave up and left because this chick obviously didn't want our business. All we wanted was some appetizers and cocktails! Found myself in Indianapolis over the weekend for the Final Four and needed sustenance that fell outside of empty Midwestern carbs. Did a bit of research and came across this gem. What I would say felt more of a neighborhood spot but one that could easily be traveled to from all around the city. 15-20 minute walk from Lucas oil. Food and beverage selection was fantastic. I wish I could have tried more. Service was fantastic, I sat at the back bar where the keeps were engaging, knowledgable and attentive. Atmosphere was great, place was full but not too loud. I love seafood specifically halibut, it's such a gentle and sweet fish and the meat typically melts in your mouth. Blue Beard definitely knows how to cook the halibut and any time I have it from this place it's absolutely delicious. The service could be a little bit better and the staff could be a little bit friendlier but overall the food is really good so I'm gonna keep coming in. My husband loves the beet salad so it's our go to place for date night. read more

Wow wow wow! I get the hype of this place now. The food is absolutely incredible - some of the best in the city. It is very small inside and unfortunately they don't take reservations, so expect to wait if you come on a busy weekend. But wow! It is worth the wait. Visiting Indy for Gencon with four friends and we decided on our last dinner to look for something tasty, near the convention centre and unique. Bluebeard fit every facet of what we were looking for, friendly staff and amazing food.
