Visited this Blueberry location, during my recent stay in Chi Town. A diner still run by the family members,it can't get better than this. This is a classic example of how family run establishments should be. Staff here is super nice, helpful and the whole place lives up-to it's name. The portions here are very very generous and food is super tasty & is priced very reasonably. Though I tried a couple of things off the menu, I must say the skillet and pancakes really steal the show. Definitely a diner not to be missed when in the area. read more

My 10 years old son loves exploring different restaurant deals with me on Groupon and Local Flavors so we came across this deal for Blueberry Hills cafe in Darien. It was buy $15 for $30 coupon but you get two $15 coupon where you have to go twice to get your money's worth. But we decided to try anyway. The place looked like a nice diner type of restaurant. I didn't really like the water pitcher already filled and out in the open before I sat down. Maybe I'm picky but all the ice was melted and I had no clue how long it's been sitting there so we didn't drink any of the water. We ordered a lemonade mixed with Sierra mist to share instead and that's ok. I don't care for water either way. My son ordered the chunky monkey which was a huge waffle with fresh bananas, pecans, chocolate syrup, powdered sugar and whipped cream. We shared that and it was excellent! Not too sweet and it came together very nicely. Whoever thought of this combination was a genius. I ordered the King of the hills omelet but we took out the onions and potatoes because well....my son didn't like the ideas of having potatoes inside his omelet and he hates onions of course. So it ended up being sausage, ham, bacon, green peppers and cheddar cheese on top. It was very tasty. It came with a side of pancakes with powdered sugar and I don't get pancakes often but it fell apart so I'm not sure if that means it's fresh? I took it home for my little one instead and he inhaled it in two minutes so it was very good I take it haha My waitress was very nice and friendly. She cracked jokes with my son and he was laughing left and right. But the service desk where we paid, those girls was not very friendly. No smiles and too busy counting their cash register to even look up. I waited with my son until they decided to acknowledge us. After we paid, no thank you, please come again, no eye contact. Is it because I paid with a local flavor deal? Not sure. I have to come back to use the coupon again so we will see. I would have given a 4 star or even a 5 star because the food was excellent and our waitress was nice. But until the minute I walked up to pay...the great experience was over. Oh well. The only location I will go to is on 22nd Street in the Oakbrook Promenade. It is newer, more efficient. Parking is tough on weekends but that's anywhere. The La Grange location, where it is the most difficult to park, I will not go to because it is not clean. Floors are dirty and tables are greasy. The Darien/Willowbrook location has great service and is always busy. However, the restaurant could use a good remodel. Booths are tight (1side is bigger than the other side. This restaurant is also greasy feeling so my family does not go there anymore. Carpeting is gross. Food is overall decent breakfast/lunch but the atmosphere in LaGrange and Darien locations is "icky." What a shame because the Oakbrook location is further for my family to travel but undoubtedly a better overall atmosphere for breakfast and lunch. read more

We tried this place out based on reviews. I'm so glad we checked it out. There was a bit of a wait because the place was packed on Saturday morning for brunch. The food was delicious and prepared pretty quickly. The portions were HUGE. I probably could have split one savory and sweet dish between two people. We had plenty of left overs. I ordered an omelette and crepes. Both were fresh and really hit the spot. My total came to about $30 for two dishes and a coffee. Service was great. Blueberry Hill is in a strip mall and parking can be a bear, so I would go a little early for breakfast. They have a good sized menu and the service is very friendly. I love their pancakes and eggs. I have also had eggs with hash browns that were very good. I have had the eggs benedict and they were pretty good, but not great. We're here 2-3 times a month. Food is always good. It's the service that's inconsistent. Our waitress today was great. Paying was a different story. They occasionally offer coupons on local flavor. My husband tried to use one. Three women at the register. First one was having trouble getting verification on it and handed it to the next woman who entered it in a different device. Not uncommon for local flavor to run slow. Second woman also having trouble.Third woman gets involved. I'm watching through the foyer window right next to the register. Third woman says it's fine, then says no, it's already been redeemed twice. Then realizes it's from the previous two attempts and says it's ok. Then they're trying to figure out the total. A discussion on what the correct amount should be with coupon and tax. Woman one gives him too much change. He tries to return the overage. Woman one thinks he's wrong, he says fine, he's done and turns to leave. SHE FLIPS HIM THE FINGER. I walk in and ask if she just flipped my husband off. She says yes- he was being rude. Woman three says she didn't- in fairness she may not have seen it from where she was standing. I say yes, she did, I saw her through the window. Woman one once again admitted she did it and again says he was rude. Woman 3- one of the managers I think- says nothing. I tell woman one I won't be discussing it with her and leave. Blueberry Hill- as a customer (maybe former now) a couple suggestions 1)Train your employees A) on how to verify the coupons you choose to offer B) being rude to customers isn't good For business. Flipping them off Behind their back is immature and shouldn't be tolerated C) how to make correct change. Hadn't eaten here in a long time because the last time I ate here the food wasn't that great. However I wanted to get delivery this morning (breakfast) but I also wanted to order something for later in the day since I was home and a bit under the weather. I ordered my usual favorite (really good) their pumpkin pancakes which I love because the vanilla sauce they serve with it is extra good. Ordered it with "crispy" bacon. Bacon was crispy but tettering on the edge of burned, but still acceptable. I did ask for crispy, so maybe I should have said "crispy but not burned." Now I know. I'd rather have almost burned than flabby bacon so it was fine :) For later I ordered fries and a tuna melt. For me fries are fries. You rarely get amazing fries anywhere. These were basic fries. The tuna melt was fine, except the tuna was perhaps the most boring tuna salad I've ever tasted? It only had two flavors, tuna and mayo. I mean it didn't even taste like it had salt and pepper in it. There was a scant amount of something very very tiny and possibly green (celery minced so tiny it was unidentifiable? maybe a hint of the top of a scallion?) Whatever it was I couldn't identify it because there wasn't enough to make an identification, LOL. They really need to up their game on the tuna. Add some seasoning folks! How about a little sweet pickle relish to give it some zip? Salt & pepper? Maybe some small chopped celery and a dash of onion powder?? Really it needs some flavor. This spot is OK w Covid - offers indoor dining with seats separated w plastic barriers, also outside dining. Staff is friendly and accommodating. Menu has plenty of options, and price is good. No waiting time to be seated (Sat noon) and service was quick. Dishes are big. We ordered Oakbrook Omelettes (5/5), Veggie Omelettes (son said a little bland, but can add hot sauce), pumpkin pancakes (loved it), veggie burger w tomato soup (delicious) and avocado toast (with eggs). Hushbrown potato is also delicious. To top it, coffee is delicious too. Staff offered us free samples of coffee to try at home when asked about its brand. Nice mom and pop brunch place. Nothing extra special but it's clean and the staff are nice. Large menu with whole wheat and turkey sausage options. I got scrambled eggs with hash browns and whole wheat toast. Hash browns had chunky potatoes and no extra grease ;) friend got chocolate pancakes which she loved. Have always had great service and food here until an incident yesterday that has made me decide to NEVER return here. We ate our breakfast and a group of 12 young girls came in and sat down and ordered. They were loud and obnoxious and then threw some food around. As patrons and parents, my friends and I had to say something. The girls were very rude and disrespectful to us. And then the waitresses were also rude to us. No bad language was used but the disrespect from all parties was something I have NEVER encountered in my life. Place was packed on a Sunday about 10:40. Only a 15 minutes wait though and we were in (3 of us). Waiter was great and got us drinks a food in at a good rate. I got an egg white scrambler + raspberry pancakes. Mom got the mile high crepes and my Dad got a scrambler as well with pancakes. Everyone enjoyed their food. It came literally within 10 minutes piping hot! Pancakes were good (way better than IHOP or Dennys). Scramblers were great with fresh veggies. PROS: -Despite being a Saturday morning, the restaurant still managed to get us sat and fed relatively quickly. We were on a time crunch, so that was important to us. They seem like they're pretty experienced with handling the weekend crowd as we regularly saw people sat and tables cleared seconds after the occupants left. -Service was friendly as well. The waitress we had was pretty friendly and refilled our water container a couple times without prompting. She was clearly busy, but we never waited for anything we wanted. -The S'mores pancakes are definitely dessert-type pancakes you aren't going to find anywhere else. -Both of our meals were particularly filling, and we ended up leaving food on the plate. While you may not have enough to require a to-go box, it's definitely a full experience, and you don't leave hungry. -Noise level, even at a full restaurant, wasn't terrible. It definitely was loud, but there was no overarching music trying to compete or anything else. -Booths have a decent amount of privacy/space - even when the restaurant is entirely full. If you get nervous being seated close to other people, booths are where you're going to be comfortable. -They have coupons on their website that you can use. Their prices are already pretty fair, though - especially for being in Chicago. CONS: -Bathrooms were apparently a madhouse. I found my thrill on Blueberry Hill. On Blueberry Hill where I found you. I mean, don't you really just want to sing that song to the hostess and your wait person? So, keep your eyes open, because if you are traveling south on Route 83, there is no signage and the entrance is hidden by trees, but trust me, that's where you will find this place, right on the corner. Never having been here previously, I found the hostess desk hidden to the left of the front door, even with the booths. If there is a crowd, you would never see it. Ah, the crowd, mostly seniors, which is fine with me, and then young families. I can understand that ~ the prices are very reasonable and the food is tasty. Servings are generous and ours arrived very quickly and very hot, just like it should. Carafe of ice water left on the table and coffee refills frequently. However, I found it interesting that despite open tables spread throughout the restaurant, when someone left, the table was quickly cleaned and the next party seated, that means a little nudge to vacate your table and get on with your day. The last time I was in the area I stumbled upon this place as a place to get breakfast before flying back to New York. It was nearby, served breakfast, and seemed like it wouldn't be bad. On this past trip, eating there was built into the plans long before we even landed. It was just something that you have to do if you are around. The pancakes are that good. I even got the same thing as I did the first time. And it was just as good as I remembered it being the first time. We stopped on a Thursday morning, around 10 and had no problem getting a table. I definitely remember on the previous visit, a Saturday, there being a wait of about 30min. But the staff is so organized and on top of things that they seat you, feed you and charge you with almost no wasted time in between. And they do it in a way that doesn't make you feel rushed either. The coffee was good and constantly being refilled, and the food is solid breakfast fare. The Blue Moon Pancakes (Whole Wheat with Pecans and Walnuts and Blueberries) come with the highest recommendation. They manage to be as light as traditional pancakes, but have this nutty, earthy flavor because of the whole wheat. And they don't skimp on the pecans, which is a plus in my book. And the best part is you can eat a whole order and not feel (as) weighed down. It even comes with a side of fresh fruit. Some reviews talk about the price point being a little on the high side, but I don't think the bill came to more than $15 with tax and tip. So it may not be affordable on an every-day-of-the-week scale, but it's by no means inherently expensive. I'm already looking forward to Blue Moon Pancakes Round 3. read more

My wife wanted to try this place since her friends said they enjoyed it. They must have gone to a different location because the server gave terrible service, the food was just as terrible and we noticed that some of the utensils were dirty. In addition, we came the morning of Mother's day and this server had no clue how to be polite to the mother of my children, not even one word of greeting for Mother's day. The table was missing cups and place settings from the start and the waiter never came back with cups or place settings after he came back with our drinks, so my son's who wanted to drink water, wasn't able to drink anything until I flagged someone else down. We needed an extra minute for our food order, but when we were ready, I tried flagging this waiter down again - and he clearly ignored us. Other wait staff had to tell him that we were ready. When he finally came to us, he immediately said, "You weren't ready, so I took everyone else's order," without an apology, and in a way that made it sound like it was our fault. Then he never came back to check on our drinks. We finally got the food and every dish we ordered had a problem with it. The turkey bacon in my omelette that I custom ordered was not cooked. The 3 orders of blueberry french toasts were dry, like old french toast. A large portion of the waffle we ordered was cold and other parts were warm. So the waffles must come from a freezer and warmed up somehow! The way he responded when we told him that a side dish was still missing, was rude and uncalled for and the waiter never even came back to check on our food while we ate. He came back to give me coffee, but that was when we got the food. After that, we did not see him again until we got the check. Even so, he did not ask how the food was, he simply gave us the check. This was the first time we ate here and I told the manager that I'm never coming back again and there will be no tip. They discounted my meal, but we left unsatisfied and upset since the waiter was so rude to us. It felt as if it was because of the color of our skin. Do not go to this restaurant. read more
