I had an appointment in the area and decided to explore the town for some eats. I saw this was a super popular restaurant in the area with great reviews and I completely understand why after visiting. The staff was super friendly and nice. They genuinely seemed to love working there and their energy made my bar experience that much better The food was out of this world. The Tartare de Boeuf was delicious. The beef tasted so fresh and went well with the crostinis. But the Confit de Canard easily stole the show. The skin on the duck was so crispy and added a nice crunch to every bite. The duck itself was also so tender which made each bite that much more satisfying. I've never had mandarins with a protein meal before but it somehow compliments the duck and sauce perfectly.

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner at Bluebird recently. The weather was perfect and we decided to dine outside, although the inside ambience is lovely. I chose the salmon entree which was cooked to perfection. My husband went with the gnocchi and French onion soup, and thoroughly enjoyed both. Highly recommend for an upscale local dining experience.

Another wonderful dinner and service at Bluebird. Our favorite person, Alex, was our server again and he always brings the great recommendations, good chat, and laughs. We went around 5:45pm for dinner and our food came out quickly, but we never felt rushed. Tried a lot of new food items and everything was outstanding as usual. The oysters were fresh and paired perfectly with their champagne mignonette and a fresh squeeze of lemon. The trout was buttery and melt in your mouth. The sauce and veggies created a harmonious dish filled with a balance of salt and acid. The roast chicken was some of the most tender chicken I've had recently. I loved the creamy mash and having all the components of the dish in one bite was perfection. I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed this seemingly simple dish. I was REALLY blown away by the pork dish. I usually don't enjoy pork as much, but tried some anyways, and I am so glad I did. It was incredibly juicy and well-seasoned.. didn't even need the sauce (although it was a lovely addition). The polenta was well-cooked and crispy on the outside. It was just okay on its own, but the sauce took it up a notch. The steak frites was great-- cooked medium rare and seasoned perfectly. Also, it was a nice thick piece. The horseradish was milder than I had anticipated, but was a nice bite all together. The fries were nice and crispy-- there were just a lot of them and some of them were a tad salty. The dessert was pretty good- a tad dry, so I could have used a lot more of the blueberry compote and whipped cream. The crunchy almonds were the best part. Also, would definitely be elevated by a vanilla bean ice cream. Always an amazing time at Bluebird and I look forward to my next visit!

I don't know why it took me so long to come here. It's fabulous. Service was very friendly and helpful. Interior was very adorable with white and black tile floors and decor to match. The open kitchen was gorgeous and seemed to be very well run. Food was tops. Everything cooked to perfection. Not a single complaint. Will definitely come back.

Bright, clean and a bit on the noisy side on a brunch Sunday. Food is very good. Service less attentive than other places. Will definitely return for an evening experience.

I hosted a dinner party here in their private room. The food was exceptional... everything that delicious! I liked that their tasting menu wasn't filled with stuff I can make at home.. we got oysters, short rib, flourless chocolate cake, delicious soups, and so much more. The service was somehow even better than the food! All our food came out quickly, on time, and like a well oiled machine. Our server was so kind, funny, and bright. I forget her name (sorry!) overall a really exceptional dining experience that I would recommend over and over again!

Birthday Dinner at Bluebird At Bluebird we gathered, a birthday to cheer, With my wife and two friends, bringing joy and good cheer. A table for four, under soft evening light, For a feast full of flavors and hearts feeling right. We started with fries--gold and crisp to the touch, And a cheese board that pleased us a little too much. Brie, cheddar, and gouda, with grapes in between, A beginning so tasty, it felt quite serene. Then came the mains, oh what a parade! Two salmon fillets so perfectly laid, A roasted duck rich with a deep, sultry tone, And boeuf bourguignon slow-cooked to the bone. With sips all around--what a fine liquid score! Two whiskey sours, an IPA, and a Pinot Noir. Each glass raised in laughter, each toast a delight, As the candles burned low into shimmering night. Then dessert made its entrance, the final sweet cue: Lemon almond cake and two cookie cake cubes. So simple, so sweet, every bite such a thrill, The kind of indulgence that gives you a chill. Yum yum yum when you dine with your chums, With laughter and stories and full-bellied hums. But one star shone brightest, a clear standout spark, Waitress Ericka--now that's service with heart. Competent, confident, cordial and keen, A guiding delight, like a birthday-time queen. If Bluebird's a haven, she's part of its song-- I'd vote to name the whole restaurant 'Ericka' before long! So here's to good food, good friends, and fine cheer, At Bluebird, where birthdays are brilliant each year.

Their food quality is not "consistent", they are better and better. Do not take it as a grant. Because most restaurants in the area are worse and worse.

This restaurant is a must go. The service is top notch. Definitely a great spot for a date night. The highlight of the night was the escargot, it was delicious.

Not a huge French food fan but decided to give this a try. Our service was impeccable, the ambiance was great, and the food was incredible. French onion soup was hot and delicious, cauliflower soup was well balanced and tasty, the scallops were incredible and well proportioned, and the steelhead was equally as good. For sure a place worth the visit.

Service is excellent. The staffs were friendly. The food was delicious!! We were glad to have extra bread to soak up the sauce from our dinner. The menu changes every few months, which is very nice if you're a local and like to come here now and then.

Excellent dining experience Came here for some dinner and was not disappointed. Started off with some good crusty bread. We weren't sure what wines we wanted so let us taste a few before we made our decision. To start we started off with the salad de laitue which was light and refreshing. Also had some frites which were...frites. For the mains, we went for the steak Diane and coq au vin. Both were served hot with super tender. The sides on these dishes complemented well. Portions were generous and we ended up taking some home. Overall excellent experience and service. PSA: If you have a nut allergy, they don't have any options for dessert other than the crème brine.

We had a great dinner at Bluebird. I give this restaurant 4.5 stars rounded up to 5. I recommend it for a nice meal out in Chapel Hill. Being big fans of sister restaurant Hawthorne & Wood (https://www.yelp.com/biz/hawthorne-and-wood-chapel-hill), my wife and I had high expectations for Bluebird. Those expectations were met. The food, drink, and service here were excellent. Understanding the restaurants are different -- Hawthorne & Wood is casual fine dining and Bluebird is a French bistro -- if I had to pick between the two, I'd give the edge to Hawthorne & Wood simply because the food and drink there wow'd us more. That said, both are among our favorite restaurants in Chapel Hill. Bluebird is located in Meadowmont Village, just down the road from Hawthorne & Wood in East 54. My wife and I walked past Bluebird shortly after it opened in July 2022. It was during one of their Sunday brunches and the patio was bustling. It looked like the place to be. Bluebird serves brunch every Sunday, 10am-2pm. They're only open for dinner, Tuesday-Saturday, otherwise. This place has been popular from the get-go. Reservations are recommended. The restaurant is beautiful, from the mosaic tile flooring to the storefront drapes to the five-bulb fixtures. There's a fine attention to detail here, both in the interior decor/atmosphere and in the food and drink. I love the open kitchen. I like how the menu unfolds. The patio is spacious and covered. In addition to the main dining room, there's a bar and a private room that can seat up to 24 people. We were seated in the private room. Our group of four had a Saturday 6:45pm reservation. The restaurant was packed when we arrived. We stayed for three hours and it was still busy when we left, about 45 minutes after closing time (9pm). Below is a list of what we got, except for a few drink orders (I'm missing those). This should give you a good idea of what Bluebird has to offer for dinner, what the cocktails are like, and pricing. Cocktails * Uncle Henri ($11) - white rum, gin, lime, mint, tonic * Last Word ($15) - gin, green chartreuse, Luxardo liqueur, lime * En Garde ($14) - bourbon, cognac, dubonnet, Campari * Espresso Martini ($14) Les Hors d'Oeurvres * Rillettes de Saumon ($10) - smoked salmon rillettes, toast points * Pate de Foie Gras ($15) - duck liver pate, preserves, toasted brioche * Tartare de Boeuf ($14) - beef tartare, sauce gribiche, toast points Les Petits Plats * Salade de Betteraves ($12) - heirloom beets, goat cheese, hazelnuts Les Plats Principaux * Poisson aux Truffes Noires (market price: $30) - market fish (North Carolina flounder), leeks, celery root, black truffle * Confit de Canard ($29) - crispy duck leg confit, Brussels sprouts, apples, caraway jus * Agneau au Four ($28) - slow-roasted lamb, braised greens, piperade, polenta * Boeuf Bourguignon ($31) - red wine braised beef cheeks, pommes puree, mushrooms, persillade Les Desserts * Creme Brulee ($7) - caramelized vanilla bean custard * Marquise de Chocolat ($7) - rich chocolate mousse, toasted walnuts, fleur de sel Generally, everything was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. High quality. The one thing that stuck out about the drinks to my wife and me was they weren't that strong. That's saying a lot coming from a lightweight like me. The cocktails were yummy, though. Our server asked for our appetizer and entree orders at the same time so the staff could properly pace the courses out. They did a good job with that. The apps were equally terrific. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the foie gras pate. It had a really smooth, appetizing texture and rich flavor. However, you can't go wrong with the salmon rillettes or beef tartare either. The rillettes were filled with umami. The tartare was melt-in-your-mouth. The only dish I wasn't crazy about was the beet salad. It was good, but not great. It seemed like it was missing something. As for the entrees, the Boeuf Bourguignon and Poisson aux Truffes Noires were my favorites, followed by the Agneau au Four and Confit de Canard, in that order. The beef bourguignon here is the best I've had anywhere, that I can remember. The flounder was fresh and meaty with a wonderful creamy sauce. The lamb was nice and tender and the polenta was served as soft, savory loafs. I really enjoyed it. Both of the desserts were very tasty. Bluebird's creme brulee was solid. The creme brulee was ordered by many. It was fun to watch a chef finish them off with a torch in the kitchen. The chocolate mousse was delectably fluffy and full of chocolate flavor. Joanie was our server. She was amazing. She was super attentive, knowledgeable, and on top of her game. I could tell she was keeping an eye on our table. She paced everything well and she was there when we needed her, all while juggling several tables. The other staff I interacted with was great too, including the hostess, bartender, and food runners. They provided a high level of service here.

Everyone else at the table loved it! For my main I got the hanger steak. Instead of tender and flavorful, it lacked any taste and was incredibly chewy, it was incredibly disappointing. The fries were okay - pretty crispy. I had a bite of the duck and it wasn't for me - the only source of flavor was the sauce and it wasn't a hit with anyone at the table. For dessert, we got the mousse and crème brûlée. The mousse was incredibly dense and rich. If that's your jam, it's for you but I was expecting something much lighter. The crème brûlée was fantastic! The sweet potato pancakes were really good, and the steak and eggs surprised me because the steak portion was huge and cooked really well. Starters (lettuces, asparagus) and firsts (risotto to lamb) and mains (from chicken to beef to duck), Cab-Franc wine special. The best classic Negroni w/o Campari (which I don't love), was amazing. Dessert was also a topper (Hazel Nut pastry). Bennett was a pro. Give him a raise. He earned every penny, knowledgeable beyond expectations. The ding: the foyer room on the high-top where we were seated. I get it, you're trying to squeeze folks in...but that room, which is a combo lounge, view into the storage closet, right next to the exit door, looking into the parking garage needs some help. (hire my wife, she's an interiors expert...or hire someone.). So, with apologies to the chef, here's my classic score: food: 28 service: 27 ambiance: 16 Fix that room (which has so much potential!), and you could have a private dining experience, or something else. We'll be back. But not for that room.

We don't believe it was worth that cost. You would have thought that kind of bill would have included a bunch of drinks, but it didn't. I was very disappointed that my check arrived with a mandatory 18% tip on it. It was good service, but was bothered that I had no choice. Plus the restaurant was ridiculously hot! I sweated through dinner. That really killed any sort of vibe. I don't see my wife and I ever going back.

I attended a business dinner at Margaux's in January 2026. This is a nice atmosphere, although a…read morebit dated. The waiter was really good and very helpful. The reason for the low rating is the food. My colleagues could not believe that I ordered the liver entree, but I didn't care, I love liver, and my wife won't fix it. I'd never heard of Mustard-Seared Calves' Livers, but, loving liver the way I do, I was willing to try it. When the liver came out, it looked like a huge pile of greasy slop. I was not deterred and took a bite. The liver was mush; it had absolutely no texture, and the taste was just awful. Not wanting to tempt fate (I have had food poisoning before), I did not eat any more than that first bite. As I mentioned before, the waiter was excellent and removed the offending entree. He offered to put in an order for something else. I opted for the calamari appetizer, which was okay. They comped my calamari and didn't charge for the liver. I hope the restaurant will rethink this dish. I suppose it could have a following, but at the very least, make sure the liver is fresh and high-quality.

They were so professional and personable and just made the evening perfect. It was night to remember and I will go there again when in the Raleigh/Durham area. Thank you so much to the Chief for the wonderful food but especially to Bill and Sara for their expert service!

The vert salad is the classic Julia Child's dressing that is bright and zesty and such a light start to the meal - can easily share with 3-4 people. The NC bigeye tuna was fine, the taste was somewhat muted, but I thought it was interesting that the rice actually tasted like a hashbrown! For the main, I got the steak Diane and wow. This contends with some of the best filet I've had. Perfectly cooked and that sauce to pair it with is to die for. Finally to finish, I got the chocolate soufflé which came paired with caramel ice cream and I probably could've eaten 4 more. So ooey-gooey warm, decadent but also so light and fluffy at the same time. This was my first time coming to East End Bistrot, but definitely not the last!

There was a party of 10 near us that seemed to get all of the attention of the kitchen. The restaurant was already out of one entree when we sat down at 7:30, then they ran out of the entree I had ordered, so I had to switch to the Steak Diane, which I really didn't want but the entree list was so minimal that I felt it was the only decent choice left. We were a party of 4; my husband and I got our starters at the same time, maybe about 15-20 minutes after we ordered. The other couple who was with us didn't get theirs until about 15 minutes later, with minor apologies. Once those were cleared, we waited over 30 minutes for our entrees, and when they finally showed up, my steak was severely undercooked. At that point, given how late it had become (past 9 pm), I didn't bother sending it back. I don't mind unhurried service, but this was beyond slow.
