Foster, Puli (Hungarian sheep dog), age 13 1/2 years.
J D.

It's never an easy decision when the time comes to part with a well loved pet who has been part of our family for 13 1/2 years. Our veterinarian recommended two businesses and Blue Pearl Hospice was one of them. We made the decision on a Tuesday and Dr. Brooke Clark came to our house two days later on Thursday. She was professional, informative, and more importantly patient while guiding us through the process. At the end, she asked if she could include poppies with Foster as it had a special meaning (and of course, is the state flower). We were touched by her kindness and compassion. Two weeks later, we received a card from Dr. Brooke, with words of comfort. We highly recommend Blue Pearl.

He thought he was people.

Professional, wonderful, caring, respectful, and empathetic people. Dr. Audra Pompeani was so "All about our comfort and sadness" at a time when we had to put a very sick pet to sleep. Our dog Charlie was surrounded with love and affection from everyone. Dr. Audra was so gentle with our 125 lb big boy 1/2 Newfie 1/2 Bernise Mountain Dog. But cancer had won its battle. His quality of life was over and we would not allow him to suffer. She was gentile and soft spoken. And when it came time to let her take him, she handled him as I imagine she would handle her own. God bless you for being an Angel on Charlies shoulder. We had up to 2 hours to say goodbye to our furry friend and be with him in the last moments. I will share my poem with you. He Thought He Was People by Thomas Burford November 20, 2020 © When did our Charlie suddenly get old? His back turned gray; his nights became cold. Not interested in walks, we look for answers, His joints so swollen, invaded by cancer. His chin has turned grey, and his colors subdued, We just love him more, and hand feed him his food. You lie on the floor with him counting his breaths, Ensuring another night so he is safe from death. His walks are now shorter, returning home fast, You look at him lovingly, wondering if it is his last. As you look in his eyes, you remember him young, While his life slips away, he fights to hang on. In our house he will leave us, his spirit will soar, Surrounded by loved ones, he lives at our core. He will always be with us, ring the bells in the steeple, Tell the stories of Sweet Charlie who thought he was people.

I can't express how much comfort PetHospice provided when our nine years old best companion got stricken by a rare form of liver cancer and needed to transition to the Rainbow Bridge. We decided to do this at home because we did not want the rushed experience that we previously had. PetHospice's care team was full of compassion and empathy through the whole process. Danielle was so gentle and caring with our Cody. He just slowly and gently left for the Rainbow Bridge. There is no denying that dealing with the loss of your best companion is tough. The house becomes emptier. As part of the service, PetHospice also provides a toll free 24/7 counseling phone line. I had to use it a couple of times when I was awake in the night.

Blue Pearl made a devastating morning manageable. Late Thurs. we found out our sweet girl had liver cancer and multiple organs failing. Being a 10 yr.+ old Great Pyrenees we realized with help of doc that this was not treatable. We then scheduled her transition to Bridge for Mon. so as to have the weekend for the family to say goodbye. Started palliative care that night... but by morning Lucie-a.k.a. Lulu went from feeling lousy to suffering which with our furry kiddos is not ok. Our vet's office does not do home life end treatment so we researched online and found Blue Pearl. From start to finish Blue Pearl was exceptional!! It started with Leslie on the phone, who was gifted with the ability to soothe in an effective professional manner. Being that Lulu is a 130+ Lb. Pyre all previous companies had 100 Lb. limit on processing cremation after she was gone. After Leslie found out that Blue Pearl had some challenges as well with her size... she took it upon herself to escalate the process to her leadership, and they managed to pull it all together to make it happen. All of this in just a few hours to minimize our baby-girls discomfort. At 10 am Dr. Rose came to our home and was everything we could hope for on every level, guiding us as gently as possible through this tragic experience. I believe that there are people with gifted abilities to participate in life experience... Leslie and Dr. Rose definitely fall into this category. Thank you both for your compassion, swiftness, and love of our family member Lucille, you both shine bright in a dark experience. Forever Grateful, Michael & Jill

Need to help my 20 year old cat across the bridge. But funds are low and prices are high. Wish to give her a peaceful, respectful crossing in/near Oakland if possible ASAP before she has a more difficult time?

Bridge was so amazing with us back a few months ago when we said goodbye to one of our boys. Yes, it’s a lot of money, the kind you never want to spend. But knowing that we were able to make his last few hours with us calm, and the peace it gave us…

When I contacted Restful Paws, I didn't know what to expect. In fact, I felt bad crying on the phone because I couldn't imagine trying to talk to someone like me at that moment. But the staff couldn't be more understanding and supportive. Unlike making end of life decisions for your fur baby, the process of scheduling this appointment was very easy. Restful Paws asked all the right questions, set the expectations, and made this process that much easier. And on the day of, Dr. Ami arrived promptly at the scheduled time. She was very caring and understanding, and she put all of us at ease. We could not have asked for a better last day for our Sodapop. I'm thankful that we reached out to restful pause, and grateful that they were able to come to our house to help us get through this phase. Weeks later, we received a card from Dr. Ami sending us her condolences. Thank you, Restful Paws, for doing the service that you do. I'm sure it's not easy, and I can only imagine how sad it is to do this on a daily basis. Thank you so much!

We weren't sure we were making the right decision, and she answered all our questions with kindness and reassurance during a really uncertain time. We made her as comfortable as we could, injected fluids in her everyday, and she had strings of good days, but then on Christmas Eve, her body just couldn't take it anymore. I got referred to Dr. Van Horn and his services from a family member and a couple of friends, and my wife and I are so glad that there are angels on earth in the form of Dr. Van Horn, Zayn, and Jennifer. They were all incredibly kind, compassionate, and professional and in spite of having to play phone tag and change the day of our appointment a couple of times. It's not easy at all to do what Dr. Van Horn did, but he did so with the most calm, kind, and understanding heart. He explained everything to us very clearly and even went so far as to share things about himself and stories about his pets to help us through things. He was so patient and gave us all the time we needed to say what we needed to say. He was gentle with her and helped her not suffer any longer. Kara was in excellent hands with Dr. Van Horn, and I highly recommend him if you are in need of services for your pet in their last moments. It was the most peaceful day, spending time with our Kara on the couch on Christmas Eve, and having Dr. Van Horn help ease her passing, and now we're so relieved that our kitty doesn't have to suffer any longer. Dr. Van Horn even went so far as to make himself available to us if we needed someone to talk to in the future, and if I ever see him in the city, I would gladly go up to him and say hi. Thank you so much, Dr. Van Horn, and all of your associates, for helping our last moments with Kara be so loving and meaningful!
