We found Vermeer the last time we visited Amsterdam. We were so impressed with them that we made reservations two months before we were scheduled to arrive in Amsterdam. We landed at 11:30 and had reservations for 6:30 and were excited to be back. As we remembered the reception and service were as good as we remembered. We order the 6 course meal and an exquisite bottle of wine. The dinner was expensive, €€€, but well worth it. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

On our trip to Amsterdam we wanted to celebrate our anniversary someplace very special. After some initial research, we made a reservation at Restaurant Vermeer and couldn't have wishes for a more delightful experience. Upon arrival, we were seated in their cocktail lounge where we opted for two glasses of champagne per the recommendation of their incredible team of servers. While sipping, they dropped of some amazing snack, of of which was a dip of sorts. Instead of chips, you picked off endive leaves from a stem in a vase on our table. Pretty amazing touch. For their menu, you have the option of a 4, 5 or 6 course tasting menu. We selected the 5 course and it was just enough. You can also do a wine pairing, which for an anniversary dinner is a must. Throughout the evening, we were amazed at every dish that came to us, in perfect synchronization. From their mackerel three ways to their final dessert with ginger merengue (and espresso martini), we couldn't have imagined a better way to celebrate. And, the best part, was a little note from the Restaurant Vermeer team congratulating us on our anniversary. Simply perfect. Overall, if you're a fan of fine dining and find yourself in Amsterdam, I couldn't recommend this place more. read more

This is the second restaurant that I have rated with my own award "Food Porn" You have the table for the evening and the 6 course meal, which is more like 14 course meal is an unforgettable experience. I have been here twice and I would go every week if I lived in Amsterdam. The chef has been working here for 11 years, it is a 3 stars Michelin and well deserved stars. Pricing in on the high side but not crazy expensive so for 5 people, 6 course meal with several bottles of wine and cocktails it was about $800. We visited Restaurant Vermeer on our second night in Amsterdam. Vermeer promises a remarkable meal--during our visit, they delivered one of the top (and the single-most complex) dining experiences I've had. We found the service much warmer and less robotic than what one usually encounters at restaurants of this caliber (creepiest waiters award goes to Frasca Food & Wine in Boulder, CO). They were incredibly attentive throughout our four-hour meal--we cycled through nine bottles of water during the meal. Despite having selected the six course menu (90€/pp), we were actually served 11 dishes, in addition to a cheese plate (20€/pp) and six rounds of bread (which, as you might expect, is quite filling and, to our surprise, Vermeer elevated with some delicious butter from Guernsey). Given the fact the restaurant rotates its menu frequently and Vermeer's decision to not publish more than selected menu flavors, I won't go into detail about the various plates--that said, we thoroughly enjoyed the brussel sprout, the roasted pear, the beetroot, the sweetbread, the pheasant, and the dessert dishes. If you're looking for a complex meal where Chef Chris Naylor artfully interweaves a diverse series of flavors in order to produce complimentary yet discernibly different tastes, Restaurant Vermeer offers exactly what you're looking for. read more

A good but unremarkable experience. Certainly not a bad choice given the reasonable prices (for how upscale it is), but I was definitely left unimpressed. They start by offering you a drink in their cocktail lounge. The atmosphere here was very nice-- modern, relaxed, anyway views of the city square. Cocktails were solid but unremarkable. While you are drinking they offer you a choice of how many courses to eat. There is no choice for what these courses are. You don't even get to see what dishes you will be served. There is a list of "tastes" which will be featured if you get all six courses, but I found these to be a bit misleading-- ours included lobster, but there was not lobster in the six-course meal we were served. I won't go into specifics about dishes since they clearly rotate, but it was all pretty good. There was a raw herring dish which was absolutely fabulous. The rest was good but forgettable. Some of the issue here was probably just that it wasn't too my taste, but I'm counting that against then since there was no chance for me to order something I might have liked better. The wine list was quite good, and the sommelier friendly and helpful. My one complaint is that they seemingly forgot to inform us that wine pairings were available-- we found out about then too late and only because they were being served to the table next to us. Overall pretty good, worth checking out if you are spending a long time in Amsterdam. The prices are quite reasonable for the quality of service. read more

I ate here with a group of friends last week and ended up with a horrible bout of food poisoning, I suspect from undercooked deer meat. I called the restaurant to inform them, hoping to spare future patrons a similar fate. They were not terribly concerned. Otherwise, I found the service to be mediocre at best and snobbish at worst. To have paid so much for such an awful experience was insult to injury. I have lived in Amsterdam for a while now and can attest that there are many amazing fine dining restaurants including de Kas and Daalder. Do yourself a favour and eat elsewhere! read more

One of the top 5 best and most thought provoking meals ive ever had. We did the 7 course. It was the first time i had duck ... pure culinary brilliance. I would reccommend the wine pairings too. Deserves more than 1 michelin star. Ive eaten at a 3 mich star restaurant, similar style of multiple courses. This restaurant blew it out of the water. In summary - AMAZING I got here on a Wednesday night and after long dinners the previous three nights this place was no exception. Originally we wanted to try to do the 7 course in 2 hours but they strongly were against it. I totally understand the approach to a long drawn out dinner at a place like this. I was impressed by their commitment to culinary excellence even though we didn't want to stay that long. We opted for the 4 course instead. Bummer...so I thought. Although we ordered the 4 course dinner, my friends and I counted a total of 13 quality dishes. I don't remember the names or description but let's just say there wasn't anything that was "ok." There was lamb shank, to dishes with fish, and there were three dessert services. All delicious. Service was excellent and not pretentious like you'd expect at a place like. We came straight from the office with our laptop bags, jeans, and polos. It's awesome that the servers rock a nice outfit with what appears to be skateboard shoes. Down to earth people who love what they do and enjoyed a few laughs with us. Not cheap but definitely worth a visit. read more

We traveled thru europe for a month- France and Italy included and this was the best meal we ate. Honestly it's probably the best service I've ever seen. The food was beyond delicious, inventive, smart- very very very well done. The waiter was kind, funny, attentive. Even the plates and the settings were beautiful. Absolutely stellar meal. Had 6-course dinner. Very spacious interior. Loud crappy music. Sponge cake for amuse Bouche. Pretty light and refreshing. Radish with avocado for the second amuse Bouche. First course: One of us got a huge scallop in shell, sealed with bread. Pretty creative and fun. Another one got ravioli with red beets and quince. Both came with a soup "bouillon?" Second course: Celery and pear sauce with radish, cauliflower and almond on top. Another one had squid instead of celery and pear. Amuse Bouche: Both of us got kohlrabi (cooked under high pressure) with cranberry sauce. Third course: Both got salmon eggs with sliced pumpkin and grape fruit Fourth course: Caramelized chicory sauce, granola, rice crispier, some vegetable Amuse Bouche: Carrot, fennel in carrot sauce (both from rooftop garden), honey, saffron Fifth course: One of us got pike perch with Jerusalem artichoke, parsley. We had a fantastic night at Restaurant Vermeer when we went there to celebrate my partner's 30th birthday on the 24th of February 2012. When I made the booking I was offered the Chef's table and I thought it might be an interesting experience to dine in the Kitchen. It turns out it was the best experience ever, as we got so much attention from all the staff, including the chef himself! We had conversations about what kind of food we like and what we felt like eating, and got a special meal prepared for us right in front of our eyes. The atmosphere in the kitchen was great. It was quiet and comfortable, but lively enough to keep it interesting, and it was such a great experience to be so well looked after by staff that we would normally not even see when visiting a restaurant. The food was really great, everything was cooked to perfection, and we enjoyed every moment of our time in the Vermeer kitchen! This is an experience that I would recommend to anyone planning a special evening in Amsterdam, as I can assure you, you will not be disappointed! read more

The food, presentation and the calm in the midst of the insanity of the tourist center of Amsterdam are pretty good. The pike dish was pretty tasteless though. If I knew what I was going to have to do to find a parking space and walk through the tourists, I would not have gone here in the summer. BTW - Parking costs about $25 euros (dinner and the walk takes at least 3 hours) on the street. It is near the red-light district and the train station, so the sky is the limit for parking. Costs that are not shown on Vermeer's website or on their menu at the restaurant - A wine pairing is 15 euros per glass - so for their 5-course menu - double the 75 euro price of the food. That makes it 150 Euros each for that meal - about twice what other comparable restaurants charge. Sparkling water is 5.50 euros per bottle. A cup of coffee is 7.50 Euros I will eat where they post the costs online and the locations are away from the crowds. read more
