Watch these crooks. On a party of 12, they added a large part charge of 18%. Ok, thats typical. In what math world is 18% of $12 $9.23 ? As a matter of fact, thats 76%. To add insult to injury this was on a Saturday night during artwalk, the restaurant was empty, it took half an hour to get drinks because they were short a bartender and the server had to help the bartender with the drinks. Had dinner w a group of 5 on a weekday evening. Lots of other people were studying with their laptops, and only a few others were dining in just to eat. I ordered a house chardonnay and a handheld plains, which came with a side of chips and a pickle. The burger was just okay. Will have to try some of their main dishes at another time! Our waitress was super attentive and nice! The parking was limited since it was evening, but you can find some spots a few blocks down easily, just harder to find spots closer. LOVE the clean and sophisticated ambience this cafe has with comfy seats and accessible plugs; a great study spot! My drawback is that the coffee/food/wine options are good but nothing extraordinary and will frequently be more costly than other comparable options in the area. That being said, I still think by atmosphere alone makes this cafe a standout option compared to other nearby cafes in Galveston, as I have had plenty of late night study sessions with friends here and will continue to. We enjoyed the food. Also, the wine picks were curated, and although they weren't the standard picks, I could tell that someone was thoughtful about what wines were being served. First of all I would like to commend the waitstaff...they are incredible. They work harder than any CEO I have ever met. Always friendly, kind and efficient! The atmosphere is classy and upscale. Coffee is great, always fresh and plentiful. The reason for only 3 stars is the food is less than stellar. I had the granola berry parfait which was served in a bowl, tasted fine but nothing special. My husband had the brisket burrito and was found to be quite lacking. He was unable to eat the tortilla wrap as it was much akin to the consistently of rubber. Not able to cut or chew it so it was left on the plate. We noticed several other people ordered the same dish and also left the tortilla on the plate. The potatoes were stale with little flavor. This was not our first time eating here. We really want to like the food because the place is really classy but I just can't endorse it. Come for a drink and atmosphere. A nice little cafe that seems pretty normal after the exterior coolness of The Tremont Hotel. I ordered a breakfast cold Chia seed oatmeal type cereal and it was, surprisingly, awesomeness in a bowl. During my stay at the Tremont the staff was very welcoming and accommodating. The food was hot and fresh and the Chef did allow for menu modifications. I had a group of approximately 21 people and the staff took care of our needs on an exceptional level. Although the menu is limited...there is something for everyone. What a respite from the casual Galveston scene! I love this tucked-away upscale spot in the hotel, but open to beach bums like me. Woody Allen said "I wouldn't want to belong to a club that would have me as a member". We enjoyed a great brunch, and our server Jiji was lovely. The food was very fine dining but the prices weren't. We had brisket eggs benedict and it was delicious along with coffee and mimosas. The service was excellent, we also had dinner at the rooftop bar the night before and were again blown away by the service and food. You must stop here if you are in Galveston, its a short walk to the cruise terminal so we will certainly be back. read more

Thanks giving day in Galveston is dead. Nothing open so we ate here. This is the hotel we were in so why not. I know this is a tourist kind of place but it has prices like a Michelin restaurant. I got a Cuban Sandwich and my wife shrimp tacos. $29.23 a bit much for poor service and lousy food. My sandwich,the bread was over toasted to rock like consistency the pork also suffered the same fate the ham was grizzle. It came with chips and a pickle the chips were from the bottom of the bag. My wife's 2 tacos had 4 small shrimp each. And a lot of cabbage and pico de gallo on the side. It took twenty minutes for this. We eat lunch at the CIA in Hyde park N.Y. for less. Croissants are not fresh. I ordered a croissant ( fresh pastries on the menu) and I was dreaming of these fluffy, crispy pastry ...What was served was something flattened on a plate, in the shape of a croissant, half cooked, smoking and ... cut laterally. My husband croissant sandwich was at least crispy! I suspect mine was initially from the same source ( that would explain the lateral cut) but went through a microwave. I honestly wouldn't know it was a food place until someone else suggested this place to eat. There was only one waitress for our group of about 10. She did the best she could and was nice. The cafe was small but had a more sophisticated feel to it. Food: (4/5). Paid $13 for a chicken pot pie that came with a salad (menu does not indicate so). It was a good pot pie but it wasn't worth per se $13 when I can go to Boston Market and get it for $8. The average price of entrees were $13. The flatbread weren't sandwiches but pizza it was pretty good. The sandwiches were incredibly small. It was half a half of a foot and came with a cup of soup. The cafe is inside the hotel, just walk through the front doors up the stairs and toward the lounge and it's on the right. It's a beautiful modern setting with high ceilings and skylights. I've tried probably half the menu and while everything is really great I'm completely obsessed with their tomato & mozzarella panini, chicken pot pie, and potato salad. Healthy, right? I also love their tomato basil soup- super fresh and healthy. They also have a good selection of salads and flatbreads that I've had my eye on for my next few visits. They serve breakfast lunch and dinner everyday I believe, and the staff is amazing. And even though it's not on the menu, you can substitute a side of fruit for their regular sides. Definitely one of my favorite downtown spots! UPDATE The flatbreads are personal size and run about $13. I've tried the chicken pesto flatbread and it had a little too many overwhelming flavors going on. It was okay but I wouldn't get it again. read more

I had high hopes for this café as our stay at the Tremont Hotel has been so lovely. My husband and I ordered breakfast. His waffle order came out wrong and had to be sent back. It was corrected quickly. My bananas foster waffle was fine. Unfortunately, my pouched eggs tasted absolutely horrible. I tried to mask the flavor with salsa but it too was repulsive. Rosa, the restaurant manager, came to collect our plates but did not ask how our breakfast was. I wish she had as I really wanted to give our feedback. I stopped by the Tremont cafe on the way out of Galveston to grab a quick bite, and while I had a good experience, I do have a word of advice for others in my situation. The good part was that the food was tasty and seemed freshly made, the building itself was nice, the employees were friendly and prices were reasonable. Lastly, the portions were very generous, all three dishes were hearty and no one left hungry. The bad was the wait- given that it's a cafe I was expecting to be in and out much faster than I was able to because we waited approx. 30 minutes for our food. It probably didn't help that we were hungry, and should have gotten some of their soup to tide us over, as well as somewhat in a rush, but most cafes can serve you in half that time given that the food options tend to be limited and simple! So I would go again in the future if I was looking for a casual "quick" meal in the sense of it not being a full sit down experience, but not if I was in a rush. read more

My wife and I really enjoyed the Tremont Cafe tonight. We wandered in and found a jazz quintet playing in the lobby... they were amazing! The Cafe is just off the lobby with a full view of the quintet, so we enjoyed their music as we ate. As for the cafe itself, the ambience here is very nice for a "cafe". You order at the counter and they bring your food to your table after it is prepared. I enjoyed the Asian Chicken Salad. A nice Asian dressing, white and dark meat chicken, lettuce, carrots, and chow mien noodles. This was a very light and refreshing dish on a hot evening in Galveston. The portion was generous as well. My wife ordered the Barbecue Chicken Flatbread which was also very good. Cooked in a brick oven, the crust was thin and crispy, plenty of chicken, and very tasty. One caution, the menu lists the ingredients for each item, but we found both of our dishes had either added or missing ingredients compared to the menu. If you are particular about an ingredient or have an allergy, you should ask the staff before ordering. read more

Went here for breakfast after having had it the morning before in our room. I had the classic benedict and my wife had the frittata for both instances. Both were excellent and well prepared and automatically came with my preferred side of sliced very red tomato. The small pot of Starbucks coffee was just the proper amount for the two of us. Service was quick and clean. Would come here again to eat even if not staying here. My only negative would be that the grapefruit juice certainly seemed to come from a bottled ultra sweetened store brand that tasted a little off. read more

This is the coffee house you wish you knew about when your sitting at the noisy, over crowded, and worst of all, slowed Internet, of other coffee houses near by. The food is fresh and made hot to order with affordable prices. I ordered the Roasted chicken panini with a side of cuscus for $11 which was very good. They also have the convenience of serving all our favorite coffees from Starbucks. The internet is fast and the atmosphere is so calm and relaxing that I could literally write a book here with how effortlessly focused I feel when I am here. Not that I ever had the desire to write a book, but I often wondered how could J.K. Rowling write such an accomplished series as Harry Potter in a coffee house, but I imagine she found a place just like this. Normally we come here for breakfast and it's pretty tasty and a good portion. Lately we have been noticing that the quality of the food isn't what it used to be. We went for dinner and ordered a spicy chicken wrap, Thai flatbread, and a soup and sandwich combo (tomato basil and Roasted chicken). The spicy chicken wrap wasn't spicy and didn't indicate that the chicken was breaded and fried. It ended up being more breading than chicken and the chicken tasted like it was from a package. The potato salad that came with it was doused in mayonnaise. The Thai flatbread had a weird peanut sauce on it but the veggies were fresh and the bread was tasty. The soup and salad combo was disappointing too. The soup was tomato basil and it tasted like marinara sauce. It was extremely chunky and there was little basil. The roasted chicken sandwich came between two pieces of ginormous focaccia-too much to really enjoy the sandwich. The saddest part of it all was the dessert. We got the apple tart and the creme brûlée. The apple tart was all dough but the ice cream was delicious. The creme brûlée came out with granules of sugar on top were a few were melted together in an attempt to create the topping but I ended up eating just granules of burnt sugar and cold creme. The only reason I even gave it three stars is because the breakfast is pretty good most of the time. read more
