So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. Overall, would definitely recommend PMC - they're easy to work with, fair and transparent about pricing and you're sure to be met with professionalism!

They even went above and beyond in disposing of an old piece of furniture that we ran out of room to store. I have also had past moves with them that were very short notice and small. The only issue was that they left several long, noticeable scuff marks on the wall in my narrow hallway. That was unfortunate, but it felt fairly minor in the grand scheme of the move. Overall, the movers were professional, efficient, and easy to communicate with. I would still recommend them, but I would suggest keeping an eye on the walls in tighter spaces.

This was not a moving service; it was a grossly unprofessional, overpriced disaster that showed a complete lack of planning and disrespect for the client's living situation. This company completely failed to deliver on their advertised promises to make the move "smooth and stress-free" with "transparent pricing." First, the simple things: My appointment on November 5th was scheduled for 9:00 AM, but the crew didn't bother showing up until 10:30 AM. For a company that claims 14 years in business as a local establishment, they clearly should know local traffic patterns and how to manage a schedule. To compound the terrible start, I had reserved the loading dock and elevator specifically for their arrival. Over the course of the hour and a half they were late, I had to repeatedly ask at least three different trucks to move from the dock area. This logistical incompetence, right upon arrival, caused significant, unnecessary stress before the move even began. This initial lateness was critical because it spiraled into a catastrophic failure regarding my condo building's rules. Sales person Dustin was explicitly told about the 3:00 PM elevator reservation limit, a time he even wrote down. Despite Great Job Moving's claim that they are "prepared for every situation" and "reserve elevators," they didn't finish until well after 5:00 PM, jeopardizing my relationship with building management and adding immense stress. Pricing and Deception (A Clear Bait-and-Switch): The quote from Dustin was $1,100 - $1,300. This estimate was given after detailing the complexity of the job, including an essential stop at a storage unit and removing items from the garage. Despite these factors being known upfront, the final base bill was over $1,600--a difference of over $300 from the high end of the estimate. I was completely misled regarding the true cost of the move, directly contradicting their promise of "free, upfront estimates and transparent pricing." Quality Failures: The moving crew themselves were hardworking and professional, which is the only reason this rating isn't zero stars. However, their physical efforts were completely undermined by the company's disastrous scheduling and logistics: They failed to put boxes in the right rooms, forcing me to haul misplaced heavy items myself. Their extreme tardiness and eventual failure to finish on time caused massive downstream disruption. I had hired people to help me unpack and take care of other things at the condo, and the crew's delays resulted in a lot more delay and cost on my end for that assistance. A Note on the Tip: I felt terrible only being able to leave a $100 tip (bringing the total paid to over $1,700) because the base bill was already hundreds of dollars over the estimate. The company's deceptive pricing directly impacted the crew's earnings, which is unacceptable and unethical. Paying over $1,700 for this level of incompetence and deception is a complete rip-off. They failed on time, cost, and basic logistical planning. They are Great Job Moving and Storage in name only. Do not hire their management team

When they finally showed up 5 hours late we had no other choice but to begin our move late. We needed to move everything to a storage space before 10pm. As the 10pm deadline approached we realized that we weren't going to be able to get everything in the storage that day, and all thanks for these guys not showing up on time. What they had to do now was to load up the truck with the remaining furniture and then go to the storage next day at 6am and load the rest of the furniture to the storage units. They finally moved everything into the storage space the next day, then came the horror part of this story. When we went to the storage to look at the furniture a couple of weeks later we encountered the biggest mess I have ever seen in my life. Everything was literally thrown into the storage unit without any order at all (LOOK AT THE PICTURES I'VE UPLOADED). A lot of valuable furniture pieces were heavily scratched.

I called and was told I was on the schedule for regular refill two days after the storm. Storm comes with feet of snow. Suburban shows up says they won't deliver because of snow. Ok, that's understandable. Of course, it's why I called in the first place before the storm hit. I get the place plowed and then Suburban wants documentation that the bridge to my property is safe for their truck. This would be the same truck that has been crossing that bridge for the PAST FORTY YEARS! When a truck does show up, it's a driver who has delivered here many times before. He zips right in. When asked about the bridge, he says it's no problem.

I appreciate that they were willing to acknowledge that my experience did not reflect the level of service they expect from their crews and that they made an effort to make things right. The reimbursement does not come close to covering the significant damage and loss I experienced, but I do appreciate the gesture and their willingness to respond. My original experience with the move itself remains unchanged, but I wanted to update this review to be fair and to recognize the company for their response after I raised my concerns.

Nightmare pricing scheme. Moved our furniture into storage in 2021, really affordable price for 3…read moremen, a truck, 5 hours of packing and transporting to their warehouse $1100. We only stored our large furniture, no small items. Year and half of storage we finally found a house. Decided not to pay $5,500 to move the items a few hours away. Choose to pick up our items from the warehouse and use a uhaul. Owner wanted to charge $1,800 for what would take only an hour to accomplish. This was $1,000 for them to retrieve the five crates and put them at the warehouse door, and $145 an hour for 2 of their guys to unwrap the furniture with a minimum of 5 hours charged regardless of how long it took. Picked up items, owner finally agreed to only charge for the time it actually took them to unwrap items (we loaded the trucks). Total for about 45mins of work was $1,225. Be careful about storing your items in the warehouse once they have your personal belongings you will pay 2x-5x to get them back.

I wholeheartedly agree. Their website was easy to navigate and easier still to create a rough inventory of your belongings (take your time and confirm, room to room. Trust me: you own more than you think.) Once I'd submitted that Charlie reached out to me shortly after and was my point of contact throughout. I was able to make updates and adjustments up to the week of the move and even then I got 2 confirmations, one a day prior and one the morning of the move. A 4-man crew managed to move a 2-bedroom condo and a 4-bedroom condo into a single townhouse with a single truck, 1 trip between each location, and all in under 8 hours. Good men that busted their asses all day and earned every penny of their salary. TMM is not cheap but this is very much a case of quality work coming at an worthwhile rate; sometimes you need to pay more for the best service. You can certainly find less expensive movers but you would be hard-pressed to find movers of a higher quality. Book sooner than later, feed your movers, tip your movers.

Somehow, my friends, who are not professional movers, didn't need to do this. But the professional movers did? And didn't put it back? - were not former Marines or US military. And this one might be the biggest deal to me. Don't advertise that you nearly exclusively hire former military and veterans, then send me an entire team of none. As the daughter of a Marine, I I consider this to be on the level of stolen valor; you're exploiting the veteran status when all you did was hire people off the street. - the management and customer service team won't return my emails or phone calls. Today I'll be calling the Spotsylvania County Better Business Bureau as well as the Fairfax County Better Business Bureau to figure out log a complaint. If you can't complete the business transaction, you shouldn't be allowed to do business.
