I enjoy dropping in year round. The scenery is gorgeous in any season. They have picnic tables with a view of the valley with the Sierras in the background. You can bring outside food to the picnic tables, there are no rules stating otherwise. Dogs on leashes are allowed in the picnic area across from the shop. But they aren't allowed in the shop nor near the outdoor produce stalls and covered dining area. During the Fall, they have a pumpkin patch and kiddo tractor train ride. They sell Xmas trees as well. I have been coming to Boa Vista for a long time for their produce. Great selection with a farmer's market feel. That said, their prices have been going up and up and up over the past couple of years. I guess prices are on the rise everywhere. While I still appreciate that the produce is generally fresher than the grocery stores, I wish it was "more affordable" like it used to be, relatively speaking. Still, I would give their produce 4 stars. My reason for only 2 stars overall is due to my bread and jam purchases there. I have purchased three loafs over the past few months, and all three loaves started getting mold within days of purchase. I bought a loaf two days ago (Wed 7/22), and today (Fri 7/24) I found mold growing on the upper crust. That means this loaf had been sitting there for several days before my purchase. I have had the same experience with a couple of BV jars of butters...open it and within days it is growing mold on top. Butter spreads (apple, pumpkin) should last a good long time on the shelf so I'm not sure what's going on there. Once could be a coincidence, just a bad batch. But it's happened twice now, months apart. I'm hesitant now to buy another jar. I expect the products sold there to be fresh. During the height of summer like right now, when it is hot inside your store, this might mean pulling the loaves of bread off the shelf sooner and taking a loss to ensure the freshest possible product for your customers. I have no doubt that your pricing structure can manage this small "hit," and don't you think it's important to do what's best for your customers? read more

We've been to apple hill plenty of times during the fall and enjoying the vendors, fruits, and everything else there is to do. However, we've never been for the strawberry days in the spring, so we decided to go this past Thursday morning. If you don't know much about this location it is an outdoor market stocked with a ton of fresh foods and goodies sourced from the local farms. In addition to all of the usual apple, fruit goodies, and other foods straight from the farms they were highlighting some strawberry foods for their strawberry days. They had plenty to choose from but there were items like strawberry fudge, pie, ice cream, donuts, pastries, and jams just to name a few and of course they had delicious fresh strawberries as well. We placed our order at the counter and the service is always great here. We decided to try the strawberry ice cream, glazed donut, and dumpling. They each were so good. The ice cream was light and creamy, the donut was perfectly sweet with a crispy glaze and a soft inside, and the dumpling had a crispy light pastry and was super filled with a strawberry jammy sauce. We also got one of their take home frozen strawberry pies to enjoy and it didn't disappoint. The pastry again was light, crispy, and flakey. While the inside was perfectly strawberry jammy. We visit at least once a year for blackberry wine. This year we also got blueberry and candy apple wines. The baked goods and ice cream smelled amazing but fell flat in terms of taste and texture. The donuts were so dry we unfortunately tossed them all. The ice creams were bland which we couldn't understand so dessert overall was a bust. Every year the Womxn of Color Collective at McGeorge law in Sacramento plan a fall social for members and for the past 2 years it's been at Boa Vista! The pumpkin patch is great for photos and we can't get enough of the fall flavors available for donuts, beer and cider! The only downside is the wait, takes half an hour to get a drink, half an hour to get a meal, and over an hour to get dessert! Overall, it's a must visit spot over the fall because the parking is great and the open market space is fun to explore but I highly recommend avoiding going there over the weekend to get shorter waits! read more

This is the classic must-visit place when it's time for all things fall! The cider flights are definitely super good and what they are best known for. The peach, pomegranate, and blackberry ciders are my favorites, as I really enjoy the sweeter tasting alcohol. Along with their BBQ stand, the meat is just so tender, soft, and melted in our mouths. The Apple glazed donut was packed full of dough in a good way. Almost like an old fashioned donut which are my favorite The vanilla apple was divine and definitely one of my favorites. The frosting on top was sweet but not too overpowering that I can still taste the apple in the donut. The apple fritter used fresh apple pieces in it, it felt more like a combination of apple pieces and donut and definitely different from any other fritters I've tried. The different apple alcoholic drinks ranging from apple beer, apple pomegranate, apple peach, and apple cider. All were delicious and refreshing, especially the apple peach which tasted almost like juice! This was only the bakery and drinks portion of the place. The rest of the place is a grocery store with amazing things that are offered such as, salsas, hot sauces, wing sauce, jams, preserves, alcohol, frozen pies, and useful utensils. I got myself some amazing hot sauces, and the most recommended one is mango jalapeño hot sauce, definitely try that one. The lines are long but trust me it goes by fast! I kept seeing online that the crowds get crazy in Apple Hill during that time of year. My boyfriend and I got up at the crack of dawn to make the two-hour drive so that we would be there right when it opened. The cool thing about Boa Vista is that they have wine tasting with unique flavors. We tried their Apple Blackberry which was great! We also shared a slice of their Dutch Caramel Apple Pie and an Apple Cider. I like how they had a cute little market portion where you could get fresh fruit and crafted food items. A basket of strawberries was only $2.99! Of course I got one of those along with a bottle of their queso blanco, which turned out just alright. Get their early to avoid the crowds! read more

I was quite amazed at the selection since they literally sold my top three favorite apples: Fuji, Honeycrisp, and Pinklady. What surprised us most was the apple bar in the back of the barn. We rang the bell and a worker came immediately to serve us some samples of apple beer, apple wine, and pomegranate cider. The prices for the beer were decent and the aroma was amazing; strong smell of apples! I did not sample the apple beer or wine today, but my husband and brother-in-law both said it was delicious! So good that my husband bought bottles of apple beer and the pomegranate cider so I could try them later. We bought some pastries, caramel apple with peanuts, and hot apple cider. The apple donut was delicious, and the apple fritter was also good! Both pastries were fresh baked goods with strong tastes of apple and were not sweet. The hot apple cider was perfect on a cold day! The only thing that was ok here was the caramel apple with peanuts. I love eating this but would only rate this as average. The peanuts with the caramel outer layer was good but the apple (especially locally grown ones here) did not have a crunchy texture. They also used a red apple instead of green so it did not taste as good as other places because the red apple brought out a sweeter taste compared to green apples, which were generally more green. I had a higher expectation since they used locally grown apples, which should have tasted better. There was a bbq section area that sold bbq brisket sandwich. We were so tempted to order that but were in a rush to get back to the Bay Area. Seemed like a very chill spot! Boa Vista Orchards is a beautiful orchard that is open 323 days of the year (except Christmas and Thanksgiving). There's plenty to eat and drink and buy here. I think it's currently off season right now, but all that means is that there wasent that many people, so thats nice. They sell produce by the bulk. But also by the lb as well. As well as by the cartons. I like their sample station. You can try different things, including their apple cider, fruits, desserts and many other things. They have a bakery that you can by baked goods as well as a bar area where they have flights of their own beers, ciders, wines and other drinks. Large middle area to buy different Boa Vista inspired utensils and gear. Overall people here are friendly. You can sit in the back and overlook one of their orchards. Im sure theres more to do here but their produce is amazingly fresh and of very good quality. read more

Whether it's apples, cider, pies, pickled goods, jars of goodies, candies, hard drinks, veggies, whatever, they have it here. My personal favorite beyond the incredibly delicious Arkansas Black apples is their BBQ offerings... so exceptionally good. Come here hungry! I always get the brisket sandwich as it is some of the best brisket anywhere. Truly. Tender, fresh and cooked to perfection. You order and pay for the sandwich, or any BBQ item, at the cash register and then bring your receipt to the location where they prepare them. You may need to wait a bit while they cook it, but well worth it. The sandwich comes with a bag of chips. To the side is a station with a variety of sauces, napkins and other condiment items. There are lots of place to sit to enjoy your meal. This time I liked seeing the discount vegetable items. They small batch together various combinations of produce and I got quite a deal, including lots of green onions (scallions), tomatoes, cilantro. Perfect for salsa! This is one of my stops every year in Apple Hill for Apple season, but they offer harvest days, where they create a menu for a limited time of bakery infused items with whatever the fruit of the season is, its a nice drive with scenic views all around and away from the city. I came in for Peach Days! I have always wanted to try Apple wine so I bought some, along with the apple cider, a staple for me, some canned spiced peaches, canned spicy pickles, sun dried tomato stuffed olives, and some pear and peach vinegrets. Also, I'm not sure why these aren't advertised anywhere on the floor, but if you ask they do sell Boa Vista souvenir shirts in the back. Samplings of fruit in season and some jarred treats is a great thing. Made me go back in for more. Haha... I also got a nice juicy watermelon. For peach days I tired the peach infused lemonade and a peach ice cream sandwich, this consists of peach ice cream sandwiched between a peach sugared donut and drizzled with a peach glaze. read more

I loveeeee Boa Vista!!! We always stop on our way to Tahoe. People associate Apple Hill with Autumn but my biggest advice is to go during summer also!!!! There's less crowds and some of the coolest events of the year, like Lavender Days, Watermelon Days, Chocolate Days- literally a different theme every other week. Boa Vista goes all out, with pastries and ice cream and drinks for each seasonal celebration, and there's so many different ones. This is one of the most well known and highly advertised apple hill orchard. I get emails from this orchard year round. This was our 3rd stop on our apple hill adventure. We arrived around 11:30am on a Sunday. Things were in full swing when we arrived. We snagged a space right by the pumpkin patch. Someone had just pulled out. This is the first apple hill stop that has a vast pumpkin patch that I'm aware of. This pumpkin patch is the perfect size for small families and those with adorable doggies. There is no fee to go into the pumpkin patch. Pumpkins are sold by size, not by pound. The small pumpkins are only $2 each. There are many cute wood signs for photo ops. There is one that is a ruler so you can come year after year and show how much you've grown up going to this pumpkin patch. I'd come again just for the perfect photo ops and I highly recommend this stop for their delightful pumpkin patch. There is more here then the pumpkin patch. They have a bbq running for all your lunch needs. Lunch is located at their Cider Barn. If you are facing their cashiers the Cider Barn is on your far right. You can't see the BBQ from the main store. It's hidden on the right side of the Cider Barn. We got the brisket sandwich. The sandwich was piled high with meat. The initial line is short, but it takes awhile to get your food. There was a little fat on the brisket, but other than that it was tender and delicious. They have several bottles of different types of bbq sauce you can add to your sandwich. All sandwiches comes with a bag of lays chips. The sandwiches are cut in half and it's enough to share with a hungry friend. They also sell individual apples, pears, peaches, and plums. Tomatoes and other produce. This place has so much to offer. This is one of my sister's favorite spots for fruit up at Apple Hill so we made our way over for a visit. Great selection of fruit and great prices! We ended up with a box of apples and some pears. More recently we tried their Asian pears and they were really tasty- crunchy and sweet! The store is spacious and they have a nice bakery as well. Boa Vista Orchards is a good one to visit. It's right off the road with ample parking and very convenient. They offer free samples of produce and cider and because of that we were able to find something we loved. We have had Asian Pears before and they are fine but the woman running the sample booth offered us a variety of items including Olympic Asian pears. They were delicious and we would not have known about them without Boa Vista. We purchased two bags full to bring home and ate every one! They are "dog friendly" and we took our pup to the sample booth and to some of the vendors but they are not allowed in the store, so when we made the purchases only one of us could go in. This worked out fine because I was able to walk our dog across the street to their pumpkin patch but for people traveling alone with their dogs this could be an issue so just be aware. We paid with cash at the market and received a 4% discount which was nice. They also have signs posted advising about this policy which I appreciate and is important to me as a consumer. Yes, the lines are long but they have good stuff what do you expect? And as far as the "dispute" between Boa Vista and the other Apple Hill growers, I don't care for my neighbors either and it all sounds pretty ridiculous to me. Don't let a dispute you know nothing about stop you from patronizing one of the better farms here. read more

What an unexpected and delightful stop. I've driven past this place for years and finally decided to check it out at my husband's suggestion. For a farm/fruit stand-type spot, the restrooms were impressively clean. I enjoyed browsing the produce, jarred goods, dried items, and beverages, there was a great selection of appealing products, all reasonably priced in my opinion. We picked up a glazed apple donut, a chocolate apple donut, a Dutch pie, and a couple of tri-tip sandwiches, along with some bargain fruit and wine to take home. The bargain fruit was an absolute steal. The donuts were good, though the chocolate didn't quite beat the classic glaze, and the brisket sandwich was generously portioned.
