This is the "finished" interior - yes, that is the top of an old bench and screws sticking out of a 2x4...
    Sheri L.

If I could give zero stars I would. Yes, I called Bret at 9pm on the Friday after Thanksgiving for an emergency board up. I would have preferred he tell me he couldn't do the job instead of what he did. Arrived at our house after 11pm only to discover he didn't have any wood to do the board up. Wouldn't one think that a board up company would bring wood with them to a job? He disappeared for over an hour, returning after 12:30 am and you can see from the photos below how he boarded up the broken window -- it is a joke. An old bench top? A stolen real estate agent sign? Screws sticking out of the wood - a huge danger! He finished somewhere around 2am. I asked him to please come back and at least put some plywood on the inside of the window/door to make it more insulated and safe! After complaining that my husband (below) had given him a 1 star review he did agree to come back and redo the board up in exchange for a better review. I agreed. He never showed. Our text exchange is that he would arrive at 10am and he was free until 4pm. I started texting at 11am inquiring as to his ETA - never got a response. So instead of "revised review" thanking him for fixing his very unprofessional and inept job, Board Up Boys is getting a negative review with all the details and photos. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! UNPROFESSIONAL AND INEPT.

This is the job he charged 375 for. Took him 5 hours from when we called for him to finish. What a joke. Looks terrible. Embarrassing.

Do not use this company. They charged us 375 for this embarrassing end product. Called him at 9:20 pm. He didn't finish til 2am.

They knocked out the broken glass and then just left.

They charged me $800 to nail a piece of plywood on my wall. I was desperate because we just had a break-in. It seems kind of predatory.

I reached out to start the quote process a little before Thanksgiving and was quickly responded to. I scheduled a Zoom-based overview of the materials and services offered with David, as well as provided some information about my property and the windows that I thought I'd need to have replaced. The next step involved David visiting my home to measure each of the windows and assess their surroundings when putting together an estimate. He even brought a floor model window for me to test the ease of sliding it open and closed (it was very easy). Next, he provided me a quote for the six windows we had identified replacing, which included a Black Friday discount. The total was around $5k for materials and labor. I ended up swapping one window for another and he quickly updated the estimate for me. No pressure or need for down payment. After consulting with my wife, we agreed to move forward and the next step was for a technician to come and measure the windows to a quarter inch so that the dimensions would be sent off to the SoCal manufacturer and the windows constructed over the next 2-4 weeks. The technician also assessed the surrounding area of each window and told me what would need to be cleared to make space for the installation. Soon we got a call that the windows were built and ready to install. We were scheduled for first thing on Saturday, Dec 27, and were told that it would take most of the day but all of the work would be completed in the one day. On Saturday morning, Frank the installer arrived with another installer and got to work. We had moved lots of items away from the windows as needed, and throughout the day we saw the technicians as they would traverse the stairs and through the front door with materials, occasionally saying "hi" and just checking on how things were going. Later in the afternoon, Frank called me up for a walkthrough and then informed me he had two major problems: 1. All six windows measured were such that they required spacers around them to fill gaps that were visible on the inside. For some reason, they were not ordered initially. 2. Only five of the windows had been sealed from the outside because one window had a tree encroaching on it and they couldn't get a ladder up to seal it. Neither of the two visits had noted that. Tom was called and apprised of the situation at the end of the walkthrough, and with a new storm a few days away and one window not sealed, I went into panic mode. I emailed a full recounting of the situation to David, and began hunting for a tree trimmer to come ASAP so that the window could at least be sealed or the old window reinstalled before the rains. The next day, Tom called me and told me they were ordering the spacers and would have them by Monday, and that Frank could come and trim the tree so that I wouldn't have to pay for a separate trimmer. We ended up scheduling for Tuesday, and Frank showed up solo to finish the job. He trimmed the tree and disposed of the materials, added the spacers and sealed everything remaining. When all was said and done, we were happy with the windows and the way the company worked to make it right (and on a tight schedule). We did have to keep everything in its temporary locations for another few days, and we did have to get vocal about our frustrations, but Smart Window Company finished the job and called to check in on us after to make sure everything was good. The next storm hit and we haven't had any issues yet. The product is solid, and the company cares where it matters.

Hermosa window door didn't paint the inside of the jamb before install. Who doesn't do that! Funny I had the house tented prior to install. But again Justin said I need to tent my home. It's my fault termites are eating the door I guess. Zero possibility they were with the wood they brought. The workers arrived at the appointed time and cleaned up each day afterwards. The only suggestion that could be offered is that in the future the customer be forewarned to remove items from the attic if possible and clean up the area day by day. The removal left debris of the old shingles' aggregate and wood splinters and chunks where any wood had to be replaced. Also, some nails fell into the attic. Since we were trying to be as energy efficient as possible we requested an estimate for placing more insulation in the attic. This was a reasonable estimate and we decided to go ahead with the job. It was scheduled immediately and the work done by Beto Flores and his son was excellent. The came early in the morning and completed the job and cleanup before eleven o'clock that morning. That's when I found The Glass Guru of Torrance -- and I'm so glad I did! Corey returned my call within minutes after I left a message and even came out personally to inspect the job and provide an estimate. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, honest, and patient in explaining our options. He gave us two choices: 1. Replace the glass, install new rollers, and replace the 30-year-old screen. 2. Replace the entire sliding door unit with a brand-new frame, tracks, door, and screen. I also received estimates from larger well-known companies like Renewal by Andersen and The Home Depot, but their prices were significantly higher and lead times were 6-8 weeks out. After thinking it through, replacing glass in a 30-year-old door that barely rolled and had a broken lock no longer made sense, so I called Corey back and ordered the complete new sliding door unit. What really impressed me was Corey's attention to detail. He personally returned to double-check all measurements because I had read horror stories about improperly sealed doors and installations that required tearing out plaster around the frame. Corey assured me they could install everything cleanly and professionally -- and he absolutely delivered. He originally quoted about a two-week turnaround, but the team actually completed the installation even sooner. The finished result is beautiful! The new sliding door operates perfectly, looks amazing, and the entire area was left spotless when they finished. Corey and his team provided exceptional customer service, outstanding workmanship, fair pricing, and excellent communication throughout the entire process. To fix the issue, I brought both the table and the glass back to the store so they could measure everything correctly and recut the glass. The owner, Dan, told me he was not completely certain whether the glass was tempered, but believed it was not and decided to proceed with cutting it anyway. During the process, their machine broke down, so I had to leave the table and glass there until they repaired it. Dan quoted me $10 for the job. Two days later, I received a call saying the glass had shattered during the cutting process and that I would need to pay $124 for a replacement. I explained that I did not believe I should be responsible for replacing the glass since they had inspected it, determined it was likely not tempered, and chose to proceed with the cut. At that point, the conversation became extremely hostile. Dan became very aggressive, insulted me repeatedly, and told me he "didn't give a f***" about me or my glass. He then threatened to throw my coffee table in the trash "if did not f***ing pick it up by the end of the day". What shocked me most was not the broken glass, but the way I was treated as a customer. I remained calm throughout the conversation and genuinely tried to resolve the situation reasonably, but I was met with outrageous profanity, insults, and threats instead. Everyone makes mistakes in business, but professionalism and accountability matter. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding this business.
