I was expecting better... Fried shrimp were in a giant blob on a skewer for $18. When I tried to pull the shrimp off most of the breading came off. They tasted good though. Halibut sandwich was ok. Were planning to go for something else for lunch but decided we really wanted fish and chips and this place had been recommended by a friend who used to live in Homer. It is an order at the counter and be seated and they will bring it to you situation. I ordered the halibut fish and chips and my husband had the cod fish and chips. The prices were a bit high, but the fish was excellent (anyone who knows me knows that I am very particular about my fish and chips.) The breading was nice and light and the tarter sauce was not at all cloying. The fish was cooked to perfection. I did prefer my halibut to the cod as did, surprisingly, my husband. It had nothing to do with how the quality of fish, just a personal preference. The fries were good, not at all greasy. The portion, while pricey, was just about the right amount of food to not put a lot to waste. I would definitely count this among the top five fish and chips I have had. read more

Do NOT eat here!!!! COD salad was covered, literally covered, in some kind of grease....ugh....Halibut salad wasn't any better. We ordered one fish and chips, one salad, one cheeseburger, 2 sodas and a water and it was $74!!!!!!!! Worst decision of my trip to Alaska!!!! We really enjoyed this place! Both my wife and I got the halibut fish & chips, but the staff offered to grill the fish instead of fry it when we talked among ourselves about the amount of fried food we just ordered. Great suggestion! It really worked well and tasted great. My daughter got the veggie burger, which was a quality patty with whole peas and other veggies visible. When we also ordered calamari as a starter, the staff suggested changing up some of the fries to slaw etc... Question: Why would a restaurant in the Halibut Capital of the world charge so damn much for Halibut? Answer: Because they can. And in my opinion, it's wrong. Yes, the season is short, so I understand they try to make as much money as they can in a single short season, but puh-leeeze...there is a ridiculous amount of freshly caught Halibut in this town. It makes no sense at all that "Market Price" for four small squares of fish (and chips) is $22. UNLESS the goal is to gouge the tourists who come to Homer determined to eat Halibut. I've traveled to many Caribbean islands, and fish, mangos, lobster -- all are really cheap because they are so plentiful. Halibut is plentiful and easily accessible in Homer, so why the crazy prices??? (End rant, moving on.) The Cod and Chips were significantly less expensive, so we did a test. We got Cod and Chips and Halibut and Chips, and tasted them side-by-side. Not only was the Cod portion bigger, but it was lighter, flakier, more flavorful, and moist and tender. Husband and I both preferred the Cod over the Halibut, no question. Disclaimer: we spent close to $600 today on a charter to catch Halibut (we netted 26 pounds of fabulous meat), so we are not in any way pro-cod and anti-Halibut. (Is there such a thing?). Point is, we love Halibut and we're willing to pay for it. But the restaurants as well as the fish markets in Homer are (in my opinion), taking advantage of the tourists who come here for Halibut. Food quality and preparation was really good, so if you want tasty fried fish (cod or Halibut) and are willing to risk the fries (one of our orders was perhaps "last of batch", so a bit stale, while the other was hot and delicious), AND you're not turned off by the crazy high prices, then definitely give this place a try. (But get the cod and chips, not the Halibut and chips). read more

Such a disappointment! We had lunch here because we thought it had a good selection for both the adults and children in our party of seven. My family ordered the halibut and chips, chicken tenders, chili in a bread bowl, and a cheeseburger. The halibut was way overpriced for the serving size. Sit down restaurant prices, serve yourself service. Paid "market" (over $20) for an 8 inch bamboo skewer of halibut over fries. Fish was cooked well and tasted good. Paid $2 for kiddie cup size drink at the self serve soda machine. 6 different drinks, 3 of which didn't work. Ice machine was empty. Overall seating area was clean and the view was great. Dear visitors to Alaska, ALWAYS ask where every piece of seafood that you are considering ordering comes from. Here at the Boardwalk the shrimp and prawns are NOT from Alaska, which is quite insulting to us (Alaskans) and the reason I won't be coming back here. If you can't get it w/i 200 miles don't serve it. I feel you are trying to pull one over on your customers, right or wrong, they assume your stepping up and providing them with what they are looking for, shrimp from Chile/Mexico is not it. I love this place, the clam chowder in a bread bowl is out of this world. I tell out of town guests and they speak highly of it also. You are right out on the spit boardwalk with a great glacier, mountain and inlet view. The food is abundant and delicious, service is very good and they offer inside and outside seating. The loud music gives me a headache and makes it difficult to have a conversation. It can be unpleasantly hot inside on sunny days. We were ripped off at this place, Lunch for the two of us was $54.00 and some cents, three little chunks of Halibut fries and tasteless slaw, and No drink. It started with market price for the Halibut So we asked 20.95. My husband wanted the Halibut and I was going to have the crab cakes they were out? so we both had the halibut basket, fries and slaw,so we thought. We were shock when the bill was 54.00 and some cents but their was a line behind us so we moved on and the checker (tall Dark haired Girl) did not give us a receipt. So when the young girl delivered our food we asked her if she knew why our food was so much.(No) We asked to speak to the checker. After a long time she came over and snidely told us that our cold slaw was $4.00 each of course we would of scratched the slaw if we would of only had a receipt, or the checker would of said that it was extra (slaw). I am sure they have a racket going here! Some one is getting money under the table. I think the Alaska Attorney generals office needs to here about this place!!
