Found this quaint little place. Nothing fancy more like a local tavern but the food was good. Some things were better than the others. The burger was well cooked, the oysters were good, the steak was average, because it didn't match the price tag, the lamb chops were really good. The fries were out of a bag which felt out of place considering it should be a pub staple. The deserts were decent but nothing to write home about, the Savannah triffle was okay, the pecan pie was sweet as expected and the chocolate torte was a bit on the bitter side. Made a reservation here via Open Table. Was in search of a place open fairly late to accommodate my fasting schedule due it currently being Ramadan. Additionally, was looking for nice, but casual place to take our 15 month son who sometimes can get noisy. This place was perfect in terms of the atmosphere and service we were looking for. Very big with plenty of seating. The food however was just OK. My tilapia with lemon caper sauce was a disappointment. It was battered and fried with very little sauce, which I wasn't expecting. I haven't had a meal this good in a very long time. I had the Shrimp Primavera and it came to me hot and fresh. There was ample amount of shrimp and they were cooked absolutely perfect with a delicious flavor. The Vegetables were cooked perfect and not over done, the sauce was wonderful and flavorful. The salad was mixed greens and often times when I get a salad like this the greens are getting old but this was fresh, the dressing was very tasty. Hats off to the chef, excellent job. After walking all over town and exploring, we were ready for something good to eat. We walked up and down River Street, and places were either too crowded or just gave us a bad vibe. We turned the corner and found Boars Head and we were promptly seated. We found the menu to have a good variety of local favorites. We settled on the fried shrimp and blacked fish sandwich, with a local microbrew from Bay St, not far away (our server's recommendation). Food was EXCELLENT. Service EXCELLENT. We were more than satisfied with our choices we made. As an aside, our server gave us a lot of background of the restaurant and stories around the annual hurricanes. We learned a lot about the building and the original architecture. This all enhanced our experience in visiting Savannah for the first time (we are from Charlotte). This was by far our best dining experience during our visit to Savannah (other places we went included Vic's, Collins Quarter and AJ's). The shrimp and grits were outstanding, as was the bourbon chocolate pecan pie paired with a tawny port. My husband ordered the stuffed shrimp with angel hair that was great as well. Our waitress was wonderful as well. The building has a great ambience with exposed brick and I think was built in the 1700's. We went for our anniversary dinner...it was a louder, fun atmosphere and would also feel comfortable taking our kids here if we came back to Savannah. Highly recommend this place! read more

Best dinner I had while visiting Savannah. I am allergic to seafood and shellfish so that plays a role with dining in a heavy seafood area. We had reservations, though not needed. Brian was a great server and explained all. I had Savannah salad which the blackened chicken was probably the best I've ever had. Omg what a special treat. Boars Head is off the beaten path, but don't let the location or name fool you. I visited this restaurant on a Wednesday evening at the beginning of May, and was seated right away. My server, Hayley, was awesome. She gave some great suggestions and was attentive throughout the entire meal. I ordered the Blackeyed Pea & Ham Soup and the Stuffed Shrimp. The soup was good and even though the consistency was thick it wasn't to the point where you would eat it and become stuffed. Now on to my main meal, the stuffed shrimp, omg easily one of the best meals I have had in a while. It was so good. The flavors flowed together, and the lemon butter sauce on the pasta along with the cooked asparagus was delicious. The prices weren't bad either. Very frustrated. First visit to Savannah and was looking forward to trying this place. I made a reservation for my party at 11:00 and it was accepted. We arrived at the restaurant about 20 mins early and just waited. A hostess came out and was setting up signs. At 11:00, we go to the door only to be stopped by this same hostess to tell us the restaurant didn't open until 12:00 Come again? Wonderful place overall. Service was very good during a busy lunch rush. My wife had the warm chicken salad sandwich on a croissant. Very good! I had the daily special of teriyaki beef kabob with steak fries. Mine was five-star incredible. Beef was melt in your mouth excellent with a perfect teriyaki taste that was not overwhelming. I am not big fan of steak fries, but these had the peel-on that was crunchy with the potato nice and crisp! Outstanding! We ordered the chicken alfredo, chicken piccata and shrimp cocktail. The cocktail sauce for the shrimp had a kick to it and was delicious. The pasta dishes were excellent. The pasta was cooked al dente and properly seasoned. The service was spot on. The bread that came out before our meals was also great! Man oh man. The shrimp and grits was the best meal I ever had in my life. Friendly staff and great atmosphere.

The atmosphere was ok. We were a party of six. Initially our server was attentive but after delivering drinks she faded out. I tried to get her attention for additional dressing for my salad and let's just say that didn't happen. She did spend a good bit of time at other tables though. The food was ok but not quite star quality. My entire party started noticing that our server was everyplace but where we needed her. Only one person in my party had positive comments about their meal and that was on the pork chop. The Oster Rockefeller fell short and was missing a few components for a good taste. The shrimp and grits was different. The grits were almost of a pasty consistency and the gravy was almost sweet and had a bit to much dairy. Trying to be fair on this but the overall consensus was we will not be back. read more

He was very friendly, offering us waters and drink suggestions. We ordered our meals and were brought fresh hot rolls. The only negative thing I have to say is that the menu was seafood heavy, which I wasn't expecting but we were still able to get some non-seafood items. We did have one member of our party order the catch of the day, fried tilapia with a creamy lemon butter sauce and grits, which was outstanding as well. Loved this place for the historic qualities and the location to the river. We had a table with a window out to the river and could see the island and boats going by. I had the spinach salad with grilled chicken and my husband got the grilled scampi. Both were done very well and seasoned correctly. The bread was yummy as well. My wife and I arrived in Savannah on a Thursday and this was our first dinner out. I had a 7 p.m. reservation. The tavern has a great location, on the corner of one of the city's historic riverfront buildings. We were welcomed and promptly seated at a table with a window view. The lighting was fairly dark, and the bricks on the walls in our corner had seen many, many years, including a fire decades back. We ordered the fried green tomato appetizer, and that was our first good decision. Adorned with goat cheese crumbles and a small amount of balsamic glaze, these tomatoes were not the least bit greasy--yet were perfectly breaded, piping hot inside, and (most importantly) absolutely delicious. For her entrée, my wife had the Spinach and Chicken Mediterranean, which she really enjoyed. It was light but filling, fresh, and the dressing was perfect for the pecans, gorgonzola cheese, and other ingredients. Second good decision. I had the Local T-bone Pork Chop, with fresh peach chutney on top and a sweet potato mash as its wingman. As a t-bone, the chop made me work to get to the meat of the matter, but it was well worth it. The chutney was a nice complement, and the sweet potato mash also went well with the pork. Third good decision. Some restaurants give you too little food; others give you too much. Boar's Head gave just the right amount. This was most fortunate, because it left *just* enough room in our stomachs for dessert. The creme brulée was not only scrumptious; it was also large enough for two people (at least two people who love each other) to share. Fourth and final good decision. The dinner was pricey, but so is virtually every good dinner in Savannah. This food was worth it. The service was friendly, knowledgeable, and just the right level of present. A manager also visited our table to make sure that we were enjoying our experience. Boar's Head is a good place to go for a nice, somewhat expensive dinner, but it's also a good place to get a big burger and chill with friends. There was a large wedding party in the next room, while next to us a family of four with two small children was having a regular dinner out. There you go. read more

Visited here tonight for the first time on vacation with family. Even with limited capacity and staff thanks to the Covid mess everything was absolutely terrific! The oysters Rockefeller and BBQ shrimp starters... excellent! The prime rib... superb! The key lime pie... among the best we've had. The theme of the restaurant is an old style tavern. It is very casual. The bar is at he front as you enter and seating is in the rear of the space. A great dinner spot looking out over the Bay Area of Savannah! Are here last night with my family on two-day visit to Savannah. We were able to make reservations quickly and easily just a few hours before we ate there and were promptly seated upon arrival. For an appetizer, the four of us split their fried green tomatoes and oysters Rockefeller; both were very delicious! For an entree, I personally had the chicken and spinach Mediterranean salad which was so good! Just the right amount of food and the chicken and spinach salad with currants, cheese, pecans, and vinaigrette dressing was a great contrast of flavors. To accompany my meal I had a southern mimosa: a traditional mimosa with peach purée added in. The perfect drink for a hot summer day! To finish the meal, my sister and I split a piece of their Jack Daniel's pecan pie which was absolutely to die for. Hands down the best pecan pie I have ever had! Our waitress was very friendly and attentive to our needs, making sure to check in on periodically and ensure we had everything we needed. Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience. I had the best meal of my life here. The restaurant is cozy, with beautiful views of the river. The prices are reasonable and it doesn't have the hipster pretentiousness of a lot of the bars and restaurants in the area. It's just a great, casual atmosphere. Get the low country shrimp and grits. It's so good it should be illegal. I don't even like grits and I was full halfway through, but I ate the whole dang thing anyway. Also, we shared the chocolate bread pudding, which was the best dessert we had the whole weekend, including a certain sexually-suggestive dessert restaurant that is twice the price of this place. I'm going to book a whole trip around the shrimp and grits next time so I can eat it every day I'm here. read more

In Savannah...there are plenty of places to grab a delicious bite to eat. One place that I like for it's location, bar and ambiance is Boar's Head. Located on the River walk, this restaurant sports a lot of indoor seating, and a full bar. So if you have a large group or a small group headed out for dinner this place can take a lot of customers. As for the menu, I suggest grabbing. A cool libation and trying the Oysters Rockefeller and she crab soup to start. The fried green tomatoes also make for a delicious starter (especially if you like to bar hop and try different apps as you go) menu has a lot to offer and you'll find that it's pretty hard to go hungry here. read more

Boar's head is a staple for my boyfriend and I when we come to Savannah. We love the cozy atmosphere and the food is always incredible. The chef and owner can regularly be seen In the kitchen and it shows in the food. The steaks are amazing, both the filet and the ribeye.
