It's a very nice place. It has the look and feel of an old English tavern with lots of reference nautical travel of the 19th century. If traveling Savannah it's a good place to stop. I though the She Crab soup was a definite standout. It was rich, creamy and a very good deal for the money. The food was good and the ambiance great but overall a little pricey. However, if you a visiting the city it's probably a must at least for lunch because it captures the feel of a waterfront eatery from a few centuries ago. read more

This place was on my list of restaurants to try so I was glad we were able to snag some seats at the bar on NYE. Hubs was starving and I was not so I figured I would sip on some drinks. The place was packed but there were 3 seats open at the bar luckily. We were greeted not too long after we sat and offered menus. We were then offered to place our drink order soon after. Hubs tried a local beer and I went for the blood orange margarita. It was really busy so I was waiting for my drink longer than hubs. It was a really good drink though. Hubs wanted some chicken salad fish but they only had a limited menu because it was NYE so he went with the chicken piccata. I chose the wedge salad. I missed out on taking pictures because we were distracted in conversation lol. My wedge salad came out a lot quicker than hubs' food but I'm a very slow eater so it worked out. My wedge was massive but I think there should have been more tomatoes and bacon. I requested extra dressing when I ordered and I'm glad I did because the lettuce was extra watery. Hubs enjoyed his chicken piccata and I thought it was really good as well. We spoke about desserts and hubs wanted the bread pudding, while I wanted to try the trifle. We went with the bartender's suggestion of the bread pudding. It's was sooooo good! Another couple seated close to us were intrigued and ordered it after us. I think it would be even better with some ice cream. The bartender offered us drinks to go and explained you can walk the streets with open containers. Since we didn't know what we were doing after, we ordered drinks to go. We were also given commemorative 2023 champagne glasses, so nice! We will definitely be back to try the regular menu. The ambiance was very cozy. It had an old feel, as well as a local's regular place to dine and drink. The flooring, construction, furniture, and over structure was old and that made it more cozy and likable. It was very busy and traffic was constant while we were there. It is intimate and did not appear too many tables are available. Makes sense because I did try to make a reservation ahead of time and there were no tables available. read more

this place did not have to be as good as it was. On the river, needing a break from walking, needing somewhere indoors with water. The food was surprisingly fresh and good. Nothing over-fried and several salad options. The daily special (steak wrap) hit it out of the park. I asked what was on the oysters and was given an ingredient list. When they came out, they had hot sauce on them which was not listed. Momma doesn't do vinegar, and they were so nice about brining a new dish. The manager even came over to apologize. Went to the resturant around 6 PM on Monday night. The resturant has a lot of personality and from the moment we arrived (4 of us) we felt welcome and at home. The hotess and bartender were awesome and took care of us. We were in pretty good mood already and Mr. Mody (spelling), the manager I think, took care of us the moment we sat down. He spent time with us to discuss the menu and we kidded around with him and he took it well and could dish it out to. It was basically a great time. Now the important thing, the food was excellent and they have the best Chicken Cacciatore and my crab cake was great. they have a full bar and craft beer. I wasn't sure what to expect after having gone past this place a couple of times on a sightseeing trolley tour, but the food was amazing and our server, JT made sure our experience was just as good. Located in what was formerly a cotton warehouse there is a touch of history as well. I had seen She Crab soup on many menus around Savannah so I decided to give it a try and I may just have a new favorite soup. It was super rich and flavorful; the perfect setup to the stuffed shrimp entree, which was every bit as flavorful. I was devastated when they told me they were out of creme brulee, so I finished off my meal with a slice of the tangy key lime pie while my husband had the decadent and rich, flourless chocolate torte. While there are other restaurants that are iconic to the area, I would say this one rivals them for quality of food and service. read more

Savannah has many great places to dine. A large number draw the tourists which is great but if you want to dine where the locals prefer then the Boars Head Grill will not disappoint. I wish I could give a "0". I made a reservation for my son's college graduation dinner months in advance. I repeatedly confirmed the reservation on my own and when prompted by the restaurant. Now, 90 minutes before our time, I get a call saying they overbooked and could not get in any time tonight. They offered no comp or gift card . They just said we are screwed, FOR MY SON'S GRADUATION DINNER! Every decent place in town is long since booked because this is graduation weekend. Total POS attitude. What is this place, an f*ing airline?! Will make sure to tell everyone I know who has kids at SCAD never to go here. With this airline attitude, this place needs to be shut down. I might've just ordered the wrong meal, but I was very disappointed with my dinner here. I ordered the stuffed shrimp which is served over angel hair pasta and what they described as "a lemon butter sauce". I was imagining it would taste like shrimp scampi sauce. Unfortunately it just tasted like butter. And a LOT of it. My boyfriend ordered the chicken piccata and had the same complaint. This has been my mother's favorite spot In Savannah for decades. She now has great difficult with mobility. We went on a quick trip to River Street to watch the container ships and enjoy the views. One thing lead to another and we opted to go to the Boars Head. The wife went in and explained to the hostess the mobility issues and the entire restaurant went into action. One man brought out a set of ramps two other gentleman came down to the cobblestones to assist. We were able to get mom to the table. Alyssa, our waitress, helpful, knowledgeable, and served with a smile. We had several different entrees that were well prepared. The She Crab Soup and Grilled BBQ Shrimp have always been my favorite. When it was time to go the staff quickly and smoothly assisted in getting Mom back to the cobblestones and in her chair. Nothing will ever replace the tears in Mom's eyes as she looked around the Tavern thinking about the good times had there. Thanks for helping to create new memories. read more

My friends and I arrived on a Sunday evening and asked for a table for 10 thinking it would be a bit of a wait, but they were actually able to get us seated pretty quickly! Once we were settled, our server came over to take our drink orders and told us about some of the menu items to try. So many items on the menu looked good, but I was already feeling so gross from eating so much the day before, so I opted to order a spinach salad with grilled chicken. Others at the table ordered pasta dishes, steak dishes and even some sandwiches so we had lots of variety on the table when the food did arrive. They also brought over some warm bread with butter...and we obviously kept asking for more because we love bread! Our server was nice and made sure we had everything we needed including drink refills and utensils. My salad was really good and just the right amount of spinach and chicken. The dressing was a light vinaigrette and had just the right amount of sweetness too. Asking around, everyone at the table seemed to enjoy their meals. When it was time to order dessert, a few people ordered the creme brûlée which looked really good by the time it was delivered. Some said it was really good and others said it was just okay. I didn't try any so I can't give my opinion. But it did look good. Overall, this was a great spot for a drink and a nice meal. It was warm and comforting inside and the service was good. We were looking for a good local restaurant experience and found a great one. The menu, while modest in selections, was excellent. First, I had a martini which was well crafted. My wife had the she crab soup which she loved. The tuna wantons were also very good. My wife had the fried shrimp and raved about them and the sauce. I had the steak and crab cakes. First, we visited at a busy time. They did not overpromise--they said it might take an hour, and we were seated in 50 minutes. The atmosphere doesn't get any better. This competes with the New England origins--it is very much the look of a tavern. This building was built in the 1750s and has witnessed many things as it steeped in our history. By American standards, this is almost as old as it gets. It has the allure and scars to prove it. The atmosphere is immersive. Service was courteous and prompt. Everything that my party of five tried was fantastic. It was Ann all around five star experience for what I expected, and what it cost. I'm left with only one question. I have mixed feelings. Husband loves this spot - especially the shrimp and grits. Drinks have also been excellent. They have a spinach and chicken salad with Gorgonzola that's enjoyable. But some menu items seem slightly off. I was excited for stuffed shrimp but it lacked flavor. And the asparagus was undercooked and bland. I'm so happy I reserved dinner at Boar's Head for a fun start to our weekend in Savannah. The food was really good. My salmon was tasty, perhaps a bit too smothered with the tasty peach BBQ but you won't find me complaining! The cheddar grits were just perfect, and it also came with some tasty asparagus. I also enjoyed a small mixed greens salad and bread before my entree. The whipped butter was something else. My boyfriend loved his burger and I enjoyed trying some of the homemade steak sauce. He loved his drink but I did not try it - it would likely have been sweeter than my taste. Service was phenomenal - quick, super friendly, everything timed perfectly. Big props to our waiter, Kevin.
