My son and I visited this place on a recent visit to Cleveland. My son loved it. I would say it is Denny's with a southern twist. The service was great. We liked it so much we went two days in a row. They don't have this franchise in Florida so we definitely plan on coming back the next time we are near Cleveland. Place was not busy just seemed like all staff avoiding any interaction with anyone but each other. We stopped in here for breakfast and were pleasantly surprised despite the mostly negative reviews. Our server was friendly and attentive and we were seated and served almost immediately. I ordered the (new) steak tips and eggs and it was so good! The caramelized onions were flavorful and there was a great portion of steak. There is definitely a reason for the low ratings. Service is slow on a Monday at 945 AM. Took over 5 minutes for the waitress to bring me my drink order. -Should have left then.- Place was not crowded and when the food came 20 minutes after ordering, the potatoes we cold and the rest of the plate was greasy. I went out one weekday morning during a work trip in search of breakfast. My breakfast options were somewhat limited - the first breakfast place I attempted to visit - did not accept American Express - and I was out of cash. So I went to the Bob Evans closest to my hotel. I ordered an omelette with a side of bacon, and coffee. The omelette came out - with a side of hash browns - which were incredibly greasy, soggy, and not even on the hot side. And definitely not crispy. And my side of bacon was missing. I asked where my bacon was - the server apologized and fetched the bacon. The omelette itself was very average, and the coffee was weak. This might be the worst dining experience I've ever had. First of all, my mom's eggs and hash browns were undercooked, and brought out 20 minutes before my breakfast. I ordered the sausage gravy and biscuits, and waited 45 minutes for it. They attempted to recook her eggs, but returned them still runny, and on the same dirty plate. I used to like Bob Evans, but I think it depends on which one you visit. The one in Cleveland Hts on Cedar is really tasty but this one was...meh, at best. My food was not hot, the eggs were not cooked to my specification, the pancakes reminded me of cardboard with syrup and the service was butt awful. This was one of the worst restaurants I've been to! I order eggs, potatoes, grits, and bacon. The eggs were undercooked and the grits were stale. One of my orders had some bugs crawling on it. I don't even live up here anymore but I have such fond memories of eating Bob Evans with my family as a kid so I always try to stop in when I visit. This experience was nothing like what I normally experience. Location: This is not the normal location I go to, which makes me feel even more cheated by this experience, because I don't have issues at the Rockside location. This location is dysfunctional and has a poor sense of teamwork as well as customer service. Service: The system that they have put in place for the host station is unorganized and chaotic. There were 2-3 different people checking guests in but once someone put your name down, they'd walk away and not inform anyone else. Guests, including my party, had to walk up and inquire about our spot on the list after 30 minutes of waiting and no one being called. The minute you walked up, miraculously, you were next on the list. They even had one party inaccurately listed under a completely different name ‍ The final straw that ruined it for me was the lack of concern for the customer on even the smallest things. Upon the arrival of my food, I asked for plastic silverware. This is something that I've been doing since the beginning of the pandemic and it helps to calm my OCD. When I asked for this, my server came back to tell me that her manager said I was unable to get it. My server was just as confused and when I asked to speak to the manager, she completely obliged. When the manager came to the table, she dropped off some requested syrup and turned as if she wasn't going to mention the silverware. I stopped her and asked again if it would be possible to get plastic silverware to enjoy my meal due to me not feeling comfortable. She immediately, without second thought, told me "No, I can't do it". Her reasoning was they could only give it to TO GO orders because the pandemic created a shortage. KEEP IN MIND, I ASK FOR PLASTIC SILVERWARE ALMOST EVERY PLACE I DINE AT (Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Cleveland, etc) AND THERE'S NEVER A PROBLEM. I even offered to pay her for the plastic silverware, she still denied my small request. Her solution was to give me hot water to soak my utensils in. At first, I accepted it but then my nerves kicked in and I couldn't eat. I literally sat at the table with my food untouched. I understand that it's no one else's job to control my feelings but as a manager, your job is to ensure a great customer experience. Nikki acted as if there was just no possible way to help me. Which is crazy because I ended up getting it anyway, wondered if she even noticed... ***On the brighter side *** Our server, LA, was determined and focused. She made sure to communicate efficiently and provide us with speedy service. I never had to go looking for her or wonder when she would come past. A bit of a wait to get in, plenty of food choices (except they don't serve grits after 11am, boo), it was crowded with people waiting when we left but there were un-bussed tables inside, maybe they had people call in sick that day. The biscuits are good. They are not dry and the insides of the biscuits are light and fluffy. The outsides are great too. The biscuits have an appetizing color as well as a buttery and crunchy crust. The sausage gravy is very good. It is very creamy and the sausage flavor is good--savory and even a little bit spicy. I have found most places feature a bland gravy for biscuits; it really ends up just being a creamy milk gravy. Often, these other places don't really mix in the sausage that well to get that really great sausage flavor. The french toast here is decent. Several of their breakfast items are good like their sausage patties and sausage links, but the sausage gravy and biscuits is definitely the star attraction here. Prices are good. Prices at Bob Evans are similar or maybe even a little less expensive than what you would pay at an IHOP or a Denny's. Service from my waitress was good. She was friendly and attentive and had that twang in her voice that I have come to expect at this restaurant in this area. Checks are paid at the front and I felt the manager/cashier was a little lackadaisical and not as friendly and welcoming as you would get at a lot of other Bob Evans locations. In terms of decor, this Bob Evans looks almost exactly like all the other Bob Evans locations. The outside looks like a big red barn while the inside features a dining room of a lot of booths and a counter for quick dining. There is also a little store in the front where you can buy candy, Bob Evans pantry items and souvenirs and such. Even though Bob Evans is a chain and a big chain in the Midwest, their sausage gravy and biscuits is a good breakfast dish. Their other breakfast items are decent and probably better than what you would get at a Cracker Barrel, Denny's or IHOP. If you've never been to a Bob Evans, I think it would be worth one try for breakfast. You can probably skip lunch or dinner here, but they have a few okay non-breakfast items (and their lunch and dinner menus are less expensive than a lot of chain restaurants). Like most Bob Evans locations, this one has its own free parking lot. It is easy finding an open space. read more

What do you really expect at Bob Evans? So I've never had Bob Evans but heard a good stories from my colleague who grew up on it. We were seated for dinner and I decided to have a meatloaf. My complains were: brought me in green beans instead of corn which they brought in later on. We had to return our plates because of cold mashed potato. The server seldom checked in so with this two issues imagine the time it took to correct it. The meatloaf was OK - it was a little burnt. When we asked to move away from the chilly window table we got a sharp response but yet only two other tables occupied at the time. People that arrived after us got served first. Ever since Bob Evan's was sold, the restaurant has continued to go downhill. I think today was my last day there. Country Biscuit Breakfast used to be potatoes in the bottom of a bowl, topped with a fried egg then sausage, a good deal of gravy and cheddar cheese. There was enough gravy so that it flowed down and mixed with the potatoes. But the new owners have changed a good thing. It's now served on a plate. Biscuit, egg, and sausage on one half, and potatoes on the other. On top of the biscuit is now about two tablespoons of gravy and a few shreds of cheddar. What was once a well balanced breakfast is now a breakfast of dry potatoes and an underwhelming biscuit and egg combo. On an up-note, the waitress was very sweet. read more

I have visited this restaurant 5-6 times in the past month while traveling on business. Usually, the food is great and the service is OK. Tonight is different - I asked to be seated at a larger table in back (brought my laptop to get some work done). Once I sat down, I was ignored. Not sure if communication is that bad between the staff or if I upset someone by sitting just outside of their usual section, but I literally sat here for 20 minutes and asked for a server twice before someone came over to help me get a server to my table. When this happened, it was obvious that the guy in the host role and teh servers do not seem to communicate/get along very well. Usually things are much better - does this restaurant have a MANAGER? If so, I recommend that he or she get out of their office and into the restaurant where customers are sitting. They might learn something about what's actually happening in their restaurant. Maybe, if they show their face once in a while and provide some supervision, they can make an improvement in in the current customer service debacle. Needless to say, I am offended and very disappointed. UPDATE - a couple who arrived two tables down from me just got up and left - they told the host that they were frustrated with the service. OMG. Bob Evans always hits the spot with my breakfast needs. I came here because I was up too late for my hotels breakfast, and sooo don't regret it. I walk in to the amazing smell of Cinnamon... those tricky peeps.. so of course I got a Cinnamon burst ( which is like a Cinnamon roll all fancied up). SOOOO good. I ordered the breakfast skillet which has eggs and bacon and sausage and has browns ( i was hungry)... they brought it out and said they were waiting on biscuits, unless I wanted a different side.. um.. NO WAY... I waited and they were amazing... the best biscuits I have ever had... I would always recommend to find a way to get a biscuit into your meal :) This is one place I miss as we don't have them where I live now... So much better than I hop and Denny's. I wasn't impressed with my visit today. I ordered the chicken breasts with loaded french fries & salad. It took 15 minutes for a side salad to come. I know it isn't your fault that I only had 1 hr for lunch until I had to go back to my meeting. When my meal finally came the french fries were cold. I needed ranch for my chicken and jelly for my biscuit. My server never checked back with me for me to even ask her for these 2 items. I'm a regular customer who frequents often, but was very disappointed due to treatment received on New Years day, 2019. Placed a take out order for the 2nd time within 30 days. My food wasn't ready when i got there and i gave them an extra 40 minutes more than what they requested. I ordered the 3 course turkey dinner with desert which they said they had when i placed the order. However, i was told that they didn't have it once i got there. When the cashier checked, they said they did have it but it had to be put together. Well im a diabetic and asked for some cold slaw or something for my inconvenience. There were two young women behind the counter who looked over and turned around to do whatever they were doing.
