Had the worst Bob Evans experience ever at our local Bob Evans in south Lakeland, FL. They bunched everyone together in one area when most of the restaurant was empty. Left salt and pepper shakers out for all to touch too. No COVID restrictions or precautions. Then the bacon was like rubber and our waitress went home after we asked her for coffee. I asked someone else 10 minutes later and she brought some nasty smelling and tasting coffee to us. So bad we couldn't even drink it. Someone from corporate needs to inspect this restaurant. Pathetic would be the best description of this place. My partner and I stopped here, as we both had gotten home late, and didn't feel like cooking. We were seated quickly , and that's about all that happened quickly. When the server finally decided to wait on us, she brought our drinks and took our order. About 20 minutes passed and we both started looking around the restaurant for our server, and couldn't see her anywhere. Finally another server asked if we needed something as he saw us looking around. We said we would like our order. He then went off and a few more minutes later our food arrived. My "some assembly required" hamburger came in stages, with the lettuce, tomato, and onions brought out in a small bowl by yet another server. After eating this mess, we headed for the cashier, to find no one working there. There were several employees in the area, but nobody working the register. When someone finally arrived she asked how everything was, we told her "not good" and asked for the manager. When she came out, we explained the situation, and got very little concern, basically she could care less. Believe me, this is the last time we will visit this place. read more

The waitress was a doll, but the kitchen staff and other staff were horrible. Our food order was taken 2 times and it was 45 minutes before we even got it. The bacon and pancakes were not cooked and the omelet was dripping in butter. Meanwhile the waitress was venting about how our order (not to us) was not made, because the cook is not speaking to her. After making a complaint to the assistant manager on duty, she kept cutting me off while speaking, talking about the other issues in the kitchen and only apologized for the time it took get our meals. I wish there was a lower score to give this so called restaurant. We have tried to eat there twice, and both times our service was horrible, waitress was horrible about getting our food right and food was awful. The second time we went abd thought we would gi e it one more chance, well boy were we so wrong. When we were seat the table was dirty, the waitrss took forever to get to our table. Not to mention when we went to order (breakfast)during breakfast hours. We were informed that the only eggs we could get was scrambled and they were out of sausage. Needless to say we got up and left. We will NEVER go back to this so called restaurant again. If you are smart we will never go there either. read more

Very disappointing experience. Definitely will not return. Went for lunch a little after 1:00 and there were only four tables occupied, and when the food arrived we understood why the place was almost empty. The only thing I would recommend at this place is take-out chicken noodle soup. It's great when you get a cold. read more

This place used to be one of my favorites. My husband and I went this morning for an anniversary breakfast. Our server ignored our table while fulfilling orders all around us. Our food sat in the window for several minutes while she continued to ignore us. I finally approached her and asked if our table had been overlooked. She replied no (all within managements ear shot) but then the food from the window was brought by other servers. Management took no steps to remedy our complaint. We spent over 2 hours in the restaurant due to excessively long wait times. Food was mediocre. read more

They changed their world famous sausage patties to a disgusting subpar patty. Its awful tasting. The cashier at the South Lakeland Bob Evans told me they are a test restaurant, and they are testing a different sausage patty. Why would they mess with perfection? Save your money and go to Village Inn instead. The food is average and not worth the poor customer service we experienced tonight. My wife and I arrived at 8pm tonight. There was no hostess in the lobby when we arrived. After 5 minutes, the cashier asks if we've been helped, we say "no", and she says she can help us at the cash register. My wife and I look at each other puzzled and then realize she thinks we're waiting to check out. We correct her and she finally seats us. Keep in mind, the restaurant isn't busy at all. Five minutes go by and finally the manager comes over and apologizes that no one has asked for our drinks, take our drink order and asks if we are ready to order to which we respond "yes". She says a waitress will be by to take our order. 5 more minutes and the waitress comes by to take our order - but still no drinks. After she leaves, the manager finally brings our drinks. At 8:35, our waitress apologizes for the delay and says there's been a problem in the kitchen, that the manager will be out to explain. At this point, we're not sure if we're going to get food. We decide if we don't get our food by 8:45, we're walking out. At 8:43, our food arrives, again with an apology from the waitress and a promise that the manager will be out to explain. We eat, and the waitress brings our ticket and asks if the manager has been out to talk to us, we say "no", and the waitress explains that they only have one cook in the kitchen so food preparation has been slow. We knew this already because the manager had explained as much to the angry couple with two kids sitting in the booth away from us. The waitress says the manager will be out to talk to us. We're expecting some sort of compensation for the delays. We wait. Eventually we get up to pay, go to the cash register where the angry couple have unloaded on the cashier. As they leave, flustered, she makes some mistake and calls the manager over to help her. The manager never makes eye contact with us and completely ignores us. So, three times we were told the manager would speak to us and four times she doesn't! This manager needs to be trained in customer service and how to handle guests when the kitchen is overloaded. The waitresses should also be trained in how to handle guests when they know there are going to be delays and be free to offer incentives. If they knew this when we arrived, they could have politely warned us. If they knew it only after we were seated, again, they could have forewarned us about the possible delay and offered complimentary beverages or some other enticement. If they only knew about it after the delay, the could have comp'd one or both our meals or offered free dessert. But, regardless, the manager should have spoken to us. We used to be loyal Bob Evans customers. No more. read more

We were looking for a quick fix for lunch and our favorite home style restaurant (Egg Station ) was closed. We haven't been to Bob Evans since our last horrible experience 3 years ago, so I said "Let's go! It has to be different by now... Ambience is good, service was okay (at first) and all was well. We both ordered a hamburger: one with fries, one with home fries. Okay, no home fries (server 'forgot'), no toppings on one burger (named for it's toppings), one very sad piece of lettuce, mayo packets (really?) and all from a very overpriced menu. Soooo, looks like we returned too soon after all. Maybe 5 years too soon??? Go to EGG STATION or DWAYNE'S for quality breakfast and home style cooking. Easier on the wallet, too. read more

There are some restaurants so well run that you truly want to share that info with all your extended family and friends. This is not that venue. The first time we stopped here, the greeter asked us whether we had written our own names down on the waiting list to be seated. We left. We should have taken that as a sign. We tried again a few weeks later (any restaurant can have an off day) and had an experience so horrific, we were searching for the candid camera. We were laughing by the end of the visit out of amazement. We shared one set of silverware among three guests. We had to get up and ask the concierge for drinks and menus after noticeably being shunned by four waitresses for 15 minutes. Our concierge stepped in to take our order when she couldn't identify our server. The manager came to take our drink order and didn't return with half of them or coffee refills. When our food was served, syrup was spilled on my husband and we had to finally direct them to bring a wet towel. Half our order was never delivered. Well, we thought. The food was good and hot. Until we found the hair. We started to laugh instead of cry. We waited until we had to flag down a different area waitress to get the check and ask to talk to the manager. The manager didn't want to hear it - she just wanted to complain about staff and being "shorthanded." This was not just a bad day. This is an overall management problem. No complaints here. We had the Belgian waffle and pancakes with sausage and turkey patties. All were very good. Service was quick and very nice. The restaurant chain is very compatible with the prices and the food is always good. It always looks packed but its because of the surrounding establishments such as other eating places and hotels. read more

Tonight is the last time. The service is awful. The server gave us a meal we didn't ask for, but didn't give me the side salad because he forgot. Never received rolls or bread because he forgot. The serrver said that was the dinner we ordered. Ask for manger who said she has a coaching opportunity now. She thought offering bread when we were paying our bill and taking off the salad would make up for it. Well they can keep their bread. I wish this had been the first time but its not. Don't go to Bob Evans on Sundays with more than 4 people. We watched people come in after us and get seated - in fact, they cleared out the waiting area twice and we were still sitting there waiting. This location is just awful. It's been years since we've gone so we thought we'd give it another shot Saturday morning. Extremely early about 6:15. I didn't expect to be greeted by someone bright eyed and bushy tailed that early in the morning so it really didn't seem out of sorts. Until I realized the waitress was cheerful with every single other table but ours. Ok that's fine. We were the only ones in there under 70 and maybe those were regulars. Then I hear her ask the people that came in behind us if they'd ever been to Bob Evans before and if she needed to explain anything on the menu the whole time calling them "honey" and "sugar" Lol. At this point my child realized what was happening and said "guess she doesn't like us very much, huh?" Oh well. The food was ok. Not great. Not even what we could call good. Just "not horrible". On the bright side the cashier (I'm assuming it's the manager. But don't quote me) was really nice and cheerful. Maybe it's time he cleaned house and hired waitresses that don't discriminate against anyone that isn't a senior citizen and a few cooks that actually can. read more
