I have been a loyal customer for over 50 years and have had wonderful experiences at numerous locations from Ohio to Florida choosing to seek them out wherever I go. The past two experiences here at the silver springs Ocala Florida location have been very negative. My first being that I called for an order which I have been getting for years. After I arrived 20 minutes later I was told that it would be a few more minutes and then after another 15 minutes I was told they couldn't find the order. There was no courtesy and she acted like it was my fault and I was inconveniencing her. I simply left rather than be embarrassed in front of other customer's. A few days ago I decided to stop in and order takeout ...I really enjoy Bob Evans and I chose to overlook what may have been someone having a bad day during my last experience. I walked up to the takeout counter and was met with a gruff mature woman who growled "what do you want?". I placed my order and without looking up or offering a smile or being welcoming in any way she walked away. I ordered a quart of sausage gravy and a dozen buttermilk biscuits. I was subjected to a non stop diatribe of complaints which eventually got another woman involved and whatever the problem was soon became audible to everyone including the complaint that she had 8 customers when she opened and then the conversation became hostile until my food came and I left. When I got home I realized they gave no butter, utensils paper plates or napkins. I found the experience of listening to their complaints unbecoming of a Bob Evans employee much less 2 of them and in full view and ear shot of your customers. The sour puss attitude needs to be re thought as well. I have never been subjected to anything other than great service and excellent food with attention to detail. Don't sacrifice the Bob Evans reputation of being a consistent great experience.....be nice people..the experience is for the customer....not your problems and complaints. read more

We were in town for one day and remembered Bob Evans from a long time ago. We live on the west coast and they are not there. Standard booths and tables with a lot of natural light. ordered Thanksgiving dinner from them in the past and it was wonderful. Told our friends how good it was and planned to order again this year. We invited them to join us so we ordered the 4 Person Meal for $123 dollars and some odd cents. I was embarrassed and extremely disappointed. The turkey was dry and had no taste, the mashed potatoes were not mashed. they were more like potato pudding to be eaten with a spoon, dressing was extremely dry, green beans were awful. The best part of the meal was the corn. Pumpkin pie came with the meal and we order a pecan pie as well. Both pies were over cooked and had to be dug out of the pie tins. luckily we had ice cream with them so they softened a little. This is a very consistent restaurant. I like the choices they have for breakfast and how interchangeable some of the sides are. My sweet friend Gracie took me out for breakfast at this Bob Evans today. Our server Lauren was quite busy but still gave good service and was attentive and polite. Gracie and I each had tasty omelets plus I had a starter of grits with 1/2 & 1/2 on them instead of butter...my preference. Gracie also ordered a yummy burger with fries in a to-go container to take home for Tom's lunch. He certainly was pleased with that surprise. Complaints are: There wasn't any hand cleaner available after opening the door using the handle that everyone uses who enters. Also, Gracie signed for the credit card transaction using the 'pen' attached to the 'card reader'. I asked the staff if the 'pen' is cleaned. Staff stated "Not after every use". Given today's health issues...I believe the 'pen' should be cleaned after each use as well as hand cleaner should be provided after entering the restaurant using the door handle that has encounters many hands. Traveling break! I refer to a drive by meal- on the interstate- see a sign and pop in. We were actually going for something else a little faster but the line was way too long- so we opted to sit for a bit and enjoy a good meal. I love Bob Evans turkey plate and was very sad when our local one in Jax closed (on Hodges). So that was for sure what I ordered- John for the pork tenderloin plate- both meals were the smaller portions and $7.99 each- aka- lunch under $20! Heck yeah! Our server was very friendly and efficient and food was out pretty quickly- I love any restaurant that gives you bread ahead of the meal to eat so the gap between ordering and getting your food seems non-existent! It took the waitress a little while to come take our orders. Once she did we sat and waited and waited and waited for any of our food to come out. As soon as she took our order I asked for an order of Biscuits and Gravy. I was hoping this would have came out a little quicker than it did. The biscuits and gravy were pretty much the best thing that I had and the friend I was with had the whole time. For the main dish I got the roasted turkey which was good but kinda dry. We stopped in here for breakfast and the service was quick and the ambiance was what I could only describe as a sea of silver haired clientele. I was the minority for once with brown hair. Arrived just before noon on Monday. 3 employees I encountered were all friendly and efficient without being intrusive. A+ for service! Medium roast coffee was flavorful without the acid bite of overroasting or burnt beans, and our server kept it coming. Over easy and sunny up eggs were cooked correctly. Biscuits were on the table toot sweet, warm and fluffy. Hash-browns were crisp on the outside, creamy on the inside. Sausage patties had that smoky-sweet taste with a hint of heat. Wow. They REALLY do make you feel welcome. Pulled of the Interstate on Thanksgiving and tried to find a place that was open. EVERYONE on staff was cheerful. It's a nice clean, bright and friendly place with good service and quite good coffee. We ordered a seafood basket, chicken pot pie and turkey and dressing between the three of us. The side salads were good, the pie was good, the turkey and dressing was also good..the seafood was perhaps a little over cooked, but, given the style of restaurant, it was all a fair dinkum four stars. it's not the sort of place we would return to on a regular basis, but it's good, honest American diner style fare which fills the hole in a reasonably good way. read more

The ladies waiting on tables were sweethearts and had a wonderful positive attitude for a gloomy morning. Our food arrived quickly and it was prepared just as ordered (over easy eggs were actually over easy). I personally didn't care for the sausage gravy but I've been rather spoiled with grandmothers that made homemade gravy daily. It kind of had a fake taste to it to me. I think that's why I just can't make it to 5 stars. The service was 5 stars and the presentation of the food was also 5 stars. Everything was presented nicely on the plates and it all was cooked as it should have been though. I was impressed that they were open on the Sunday after Thanksgiving when most other breakfast restaurants were closed. read more
