Mmkay... So I hate the process of buying/leasing cars... I think it is one of the most stressful things one can do with their time and I really really hate it. That being said, I leased a 2015 Mini Cooper S here yesterday from Garrett. Garrett is a funny, charming guy who tends to stay away from the slimy car salesman routine. I will say, he put me through the paces when I was trying to work out the exact dollars and cents but that's his job. He did it well and I still feel like I walked out with a good deal for my car. Also, I was trying my hardest to get myself a good deal and I think I did a pretty good job not showing that my blood pressure was through the roof until after we'd finalized the deal. (I really really hate negotiating and haggling. Gives me hives.) Anyway, I drove out of the lot super happy with the deal and I love my new car. Find Garrett and use him as your salesman. Out of all the car salesmen I've dealt with in my life, there are very few I would go back to to get a car. I would definitely use him again in the future... Haven't dealt with service on the car yet but I'll update when it comes to that. I am one happy Mini driver! read more

Worst experience I have ever had at any dealership. When I purchased the car I was told my plates would come in 4-6 weeks- they did not. Apparently the DMV changed some of the information requirements so the folks at Bob Smith took more than a month to ask for my VIN (which makes no sense to me as I would think they would have those records on the cars that they sell.) I am and was confused as to how a company of this size was so behind the ball on DMV policies. I also ended up getting a ticket for not having plates because of their inability to be on top of things. When I bought the car I added on a slew of additional warranties- I simply have no interest in investing my time into handling the logistics of maintaining the car. I happily paid extra money to avoid any hassles, I made it very clear to the sales team member who was up selling me that I was buying convenience. She informed me that run flat tires could not be patched and cost $650 to replace. I had not owned a car with this type of tire prior to my Mini and accepted that information as being true. I distinctly remember having a discussion around all the construction materials littering the streets of the city, based on the price point I was quoted it made sense to opt in. When I got a slow leak in one of my tires caused by a screw a few weeks ago, I reached out to the team at Bob Smith. First I left a message on a VM that their in house operator sent me to, no one returned that call. When I called back I was directed to the Sales Manager (Chris?) when I expressed my displeasure of having to call multiple times for what I consider simple information. As wonderful, warm, and courteous as he was; this manager was unable to locate the information I was after on our first call (the steps to replace a flat under warranty). I was surprised at the lack of internal organizational structure around such a basic component as warranties. He called me back the same day and told me that the tire was covered and to simply make an appointment with the service department. I did just that and brought my car in. Nicole, my service advisor was lovely to deal with- however again she was unable to quickly find the information about my warranty. She later called to inform me that the tire was not covered under any of the multitude of warranties I purchased and that the tire could be replaced for less than half of the price I was quoted by the sales associate which for me was the tipping point when it came to purchasing the add on begin with. To say my expectations were not managed is a gross understatement, to say the least. I am baffled as to why I got several different sets of information from employees in multiple divisions within the dealership. I find it upsetting to feel as if on top of using false information (I've also been told by several trusted sources that you can indeed patch run flat tires) as a sales tactic to be highly inappropriate to say the least. I came to this dealership in part due to online reviews and am saddened to say my experience has not at all been reflective of Bob Smith's reputation. After jumping thru multiple hoops I finally got my car back only to see that the knick I had in my rim (which was also "covered" under my warranty) was not fixed in the week and change they had my car. I was so frustrated I didn't even bother bringing it up. While the team that works there is lovely, I have no confidence in this organizations structure and I would really encourage you to do all your own independent research of warranties. I really regret that I trusted that what I was told as being true. Last but not least after this whole entire debacle the only excuse I was provided was a "once in a blue moon" clerical error which certainly doesn't explain away the ineptness with the DMV nor does it explain the slew of misinformation I received. Hands down, the best car buying experience of my life. Miklos Forgo was my salesperson, and from start to finish he did an outstanding job. I first came in to buy a car during covid, but then decided to wait. When I came back, over a year later, Miki remembered me. He gave me all the info I needed and helped me find the exact car I was looking for, at a very competitive price. I'm slow and indecisive about car shopping and took a while trying different cars, taking a while to find the right car. There was no pressure or pushy sales tactics- just a straight forward, honest and easy shopping experience. When I picked up the car Miki went above an beyond, spending over an hour showing me how to use all the car's features, making sure every detail with the car was perfect, and even installing a roof rack that I wanted on the car, himself. Loved the car I bought but purchasing from here was a nightmare. Manager was extremely rude and condescending throughout the process of purchasing and made us feel like we could not afford the car and should just leave multiple times. If I did not like the car I would not have stayed. Did not even negotiate the price and the manager was still saying we "did not have to buy the car" whenever we had any questions regarding the car. Sprung a last minute disclosure on us as well after we agreed to purchase telling us there was damage on the car. I took my car in for a simple oil change and it turned out that my car had multiple issues that needed serious attention or they could have caused my motor to break. The belts were all dried up, my bushings were old, my timing belt was dried up. Matthew took great care of the car and made sure I was able to get a rental for the time being. Also Patrick the tech was really amazing he sent me a video explaining and showing exactly where each issue was and telling me what he recommends should be changed and what was still in good condition. Do NOT buy a car from this dealer. They are the worst. The service is unsafe and they lie. We dropped off our MINI and they told use everything was fine. We later found out they just didn't want to do the repair and sent us home in a dangerous vehicle with tires that were about to explode! Then we showed up and the service wasn't there on time. They refused to give us our free loaner and said they would drive us to the rental car in a couple hours. Worst customer service anywhere. Cars or anything else. This review is for Josh Gates in the service department only. A review long overdue. Josh has always been extremely helpful throughout every service appointment with Bob Smith Mini of Calabasas. I came in today with a nail in my front tire. Earlier in the day I was advised one tire would cost $300. This was a stiff price to pay considering my lease is up in the next two months. I asked Josh if there was anything he could do. He researched other tire options and found a tire for $125. He also did a quick walk through and determined my front right tire would qualify for a fee of $150 once the car was returned and advised he could get me a new tire for $125, saving me $25. He took my car in for Maintenence as well ahead of time so I would not need to come to the dealership next month and also came through on a rental car with Enterprise despite my last minute tow in situation. I had my oil change, the service advisor is very nice. BUT I was warned before that this place will try to sell me everything and that I HAVE 29293 things wrong with my car. Which is true. After I checked in, she straight up told me 3-4 things that needs to be replaced. Then they wants to charge me 500+ to change my LIGHTS!!! Then around 4 pm she called saying I need this and that changed again. I totally felt ROBBED. Plus there was a coupon they posted for oil change ON THEIR WEBSITE. When I mentioned it to her she said that's already a discounted rate! WOW, why would you post a coupon on your website and not be able to use it!!! When I walked into the dealership for the very first time, I felt like I rode on a magic carpet leading me to a beautiful "Jasmine" looking sales lady (named Alexis Mata) !!! She was so kind, gentle, patient and definitely not pushy. She was so accommodating in having me test drive the car on the freeway which most salespeople would not even allow. The fact that she owns and drives two minis made her recommendation trustworthy. Despite the fact that I didn't purchase the car that day, she wasn't overbearing with me and trying to persuade me as most sales people would do. I actually feel terrible leaving this review because I have been in love with MINI for so long! But today was just not acceptable, so here it is. :-( I LOOOVE my MINI. I EVEN love the salespeople of MINI. And I even used to love having MINI serviced! Unfortunately, now that the MINI dealership is lumped in with the BMW dealership, I get the pleasure of BEING TREATED LIKE A SECOND-CLASS CITIZEN when I walk in the door. I've been here 2 days in a row to get service for MINI. For my first appointment, I chose to leave without servicing the car because they wanted $900 for basic maintenance. Apparently my warranty expired 2 months ago... It would have been nice if they notified me so I could bring the car in one last time under warranty, but NOPE. And this isn't the service department's fault, I know this. (This is gap in customer communication - one that I am hoping isn't intentional just to make a buck, but I'll leave that decision up to you). Regardless, the service I received this day from Kennedy was great. She was very kind and very patient and I greatly appreciate her taking the time to answer all my questions. Unfortunately, the lady getting service next to me wasn't so lucky. Whoever the girl who works next to Kennedy could use some coaching on how to speak with a customer. I felt so bad for the girl she was 'helping'. Moving on... The next day I came in and arrived 20 minutes before my appointment. Now, I recognize that I was early and the world does not run on my time, but I was hopeful when I was walking up and noticed so many associates standing around seemingly available. OH MAN, WAS I WRONG! I walked in and was greeted by no one. I didn't realize that the time, but I guess none of the people standing around chatting could bother with someone who drove up in a MINI... so I approached an associate named Brittney, who I very rudely informed me that no one around could help me because I was early and I don't drive a BMW. She informed the ONE associate working that could help with a MINI that I was there and told me to wait in the lounge before going back to chatting session with 3 OTHER PEOPLE! I sat in the lounge and waited... counting the number of people DOING NOTHING WHO WOULD NOT HELP ME... 4 at the front, including Ms. Brittney.. 4.. 5.. 6.. 7.. 8.. 9.. 10.. TEN ASSOCIATES SITTING AROUND JUST SHOOTING THE SHIT! But NONE OF THEM WILLING TO HELP ME because I don't drive a BMW. I guess I now understand why the BMWs are so expensive. You have to pay the salaries of 10 people to sit around and do nothing - how unfortunate. Now here's the thing. I'm sure it's about systems or training and not that no one WANTED to help me. But let's train them to service both! Let's give these folks something to do while we pay them (Yes, we... the $950 in maintenance goes towards someone's salary at some point or another, I'm sure!).... Or let's at least work on Britney's attitude. Regardless, I DID NOT APPRECIATE the way Britney spoke to me, the attitude and lack of customer service she provided, or sitting for 10 minutes and watching 10 people do nothing. Moving forward, I will be taking my MINI elsewhere and I will not be bringing any more business to Bob Smith MINI. There is a dealership in Studio City as well as a dealership in Camarillo - I RECOMMEND YOU GO THERE INSTEAD! I will be. It's rather unfortunate and it makes me a little sad to see this service department be so unwelcoming and uncaring... I've been a loyal MINI customer for 4+ years - telling all my friends to go buy or lease a MINI. Telling them to go to Bob Smith because the people are amazing and the service is impeccable. I actually had a wonderful conversation with a member of the sales team yesterday about trading in my MINI and leasing a new one in the next few months. But, again, I will not be bringing my business back to Bob Smith MINI, not to service or sales. The MINIs are not inexpensive and the maintenance/service is VERY expensive - all of which is not a concern when the customer service is excellent. But.. it's not anymore.. and YOU'VE LOST A CUSTOMER. Ask Britney if she cares... I bet I know the answer. :-( read more

I have had two great service experiences at Bob Smith's Mini Cooper in Calabasas thanks to my service technician, Matthew Bull. The first was a tire that went flat during a holiday weekend. I had some trouble getting through all the phone prompts, but once I got a hold of Matthew, it was a breeze. My car was ready in just a few hours and sparkling clean to boot! Yesterday, I took my car in for a regular service, while they were making the repair, Matthew sent me a video, and I noticed my rims were very scratched. At first, he told me it might take a few days to repair, but then Matthew was able to push it through to pick up the next day even though it was his day off. Exceptional service! read more

They don't like breaking-up. Getting into my lease was easy. I told them the monthly price I could afford and they showed my a beautiful car that would fit my budget. Only then did they point out that I REALLY did need end of lease insurance and other premium services, thus jacking up the price another $100 a month. I am not a strong negotiator, and it is my fault for getting cornered like that; but, I'd like to think a company more committed to providing a quality customer experience would not have put me in this particular corner. After my three year lease was over, however, all the smiles went away. Everything became my responsibility. I even had to provide them with copies of my original contract/lease and other communications with them because they couldn't find evidence for the end of lease insurance I had purchased. There were quite a few snags we hit as well because this dealership went through frequent employee turn-overs (not the pastry) during the three year period I had the lease. I was assigned to three additional salespersons after the original because each had departed after only a brief stay. As a consequence of these turn-overs, they appear to have mislaid quite a lot of documentation. This is why it was necessary for me to provide them with the documentation they should have had. In the end, applying that end-of-lease insurance was a hassle that was not worth the cost. First, as I mentioned, they had to verify that I had it. Then, after they assessed $1400 worth of wear and tear, I had to wait for BMW Financial to send me the adjusted amount after the insurance was applied. But instead I just got a bill for $1300 (i.e. Insurance NOT applied). So I contacted the dealership which asked me to send in the BMW Financial bill to the them (because BMW Financial could not provide a copy to the dealership directly????), who then submitted the bill to the insurance company. Evidently, the insurance covered about $1000, with about $400 left over for what amounts to a restocking fee (waived if I had stayed in the dysfunctional relationship by leasing or buying another car). However, I received no communication from either Bob Smith Mini, BMW Financial nor the insuring agency that I had a remainder which I owed them. What I did receive, about 6 months later, was a warning letter from a collection agency about the remaining $400. I paid it the same day I received the notice of course. My thanks to both Bob Smith Mini and BMW Financial for the ding to my credit rating (which, however, remains over 800 anyway). Failures across multiple departments, in multiple communications, and across multiple years is not simply an anomaly but rather the result of systemic problems and probably institution-wide policies designed without any concern for the customer. If you are looking for customer care, quality service, or professionalism, go somewhere else. If, however, you seek to be abused and condescended to, this might be the place for you. FYI: I did provide them feedback via their own surveys in which I indicated that I would appreciate follow-up communications to address these concerns. For these, however, I am still waiting (although, to be sure, I'm not holding my breath). Hope this helps!! NOTE: (10/07/19) the customer service response (below) totally and completely fails to respond to the issues I've described, thus providing us (unwittingly) with yet another example of their institution-wide policies of disregarding the customer. read more

This review is overdue - 6 months overdue, to be exact, which I know because Andre just sent me an email to say "Happy 6 month Anniversary!" I had such a great experience leasing with Andre and Wayne, and got a fantastic deal on a fully-loaded manager's special Cooper S. Due to circumstances beyond their control (a pebble breaking the windshield on the way back from detailing, etc.) it looked like the special was going to expire before I had a chance to sign my lease. Wayne and Andre worked hard to make sure corporate would honor the original deal, and were extremely communicative throughout the process. I've dealt with some shady leasing companies and dealerships (looking at you, Hooman) and these guys are the opposite. What makes me give Bob Smith Mini 5 stars is the interaction I had with the sales team. I went in for a service knowing my lease was almost up and that day I was able to walk out with a new Mini Cooper at an amazing price! Brittany, my sales rep, was incredible nice and helpful. She made me feel so comfortable on my test drive and also pumped me full of candy. Wayne and Julia went out of their way to get me the car I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. I finally found out they are gouging. Went there myself, a woman has no idea about car. They charged me about $450 to change a light ball of my Mini Cooper and went there again today to fix a different problem and the cost was too expensive! I asked my guy friend to check the quotation whether it is decent or not and he checked it with his mechanic said, they charge too much!! Ok. This place offered me over $910.27 to fix my car and I went to a car repair place in Pasadena, I paid $191 to fix my car!!! Omg.. Even they are kind but NO trust this place!!!! read more

I had the best experience ever buying my Mini Cooper here! I didn't go through the regular salespeople, I went through the fleet manager. I put my order together gave it to the fleet manager and 2 months later I had my beautiful little car. I paid a little less than sticker price and did not have to pay the $2000-$3000 premium that they were adding to the price due to demand. The only problem was that it did not arrive with the racing stripes I ordered, but they put the stripes on for me at the dealership without an issue. They even gave me a BMW loaner to drive around in while they put the stripes on. I can't comment on the regular sales process there...but I advise anyone who wants a Mini to go through the fleet sales at Bob Smith. They are very professional. I'm writing this crying. I'm a 20 year old UCLA student I bought my dream car - a 2011 lightly used Mini from these guys 8 months ago for 21,000 dollars. I was in the service department EVERY three weeks with every issue under the sun. It was a LEMON. The check engine light was constantly on. I went in yesterday to talk to a dealer about my options and she offered me 8 thousand dollars! I'VE HAD THE CAR 8 MONTHS!!!!!!!!!! I have been physically ill and I have not stopped crying. If you get a good Mini. Yes, you're in good hands. But what if, like me - you pick one thats a lemon? Guess what? They don't care about you. They got their commission. Their work is done.
