Their housemade banana jam made the drink too thick, probably due to the fruit pulp and oat milk. I thought it tasted unpleasant, but my friends enjoyed it so I gave it to them. Boba Guys is a tea/boba shop located at The Camp in Costa Mesa. It's a nice looking stand alone shop with some seating available but you can always find places around the Camp to sit and lounge around. I had my eyes on their seasonal drinks like the Mango Matcha Latte and the Sticky Rice Mango Drink. You can order up front or at the Kiosk here. The drinks came out and the flavor for the Mango Matcha Latte was good but it took me a while to enjoy the Sticky Rice Mango drink. I love the combination with the Red Bean in the bottom but it was just ok in my opinion. I think it was the balance as it tasted more like milk with red bean dessert and lacked the flavor of mango. It's still a nice place to have tea if you're at the Camp, but it does fall into the industry average category to me. read more

The location itself is open-air and matches the vibe of The Camp, which is a refreshing change from the usual decor of other boba tea shops. You have the option of either ordering from the kiosk or ordering at the counter. The menu itself is extensive and they have a lot of signature drinks. My husband and I ordered the Hojicha Latte with almond milk and boba to share. The Hojicha flavor as strong but it paired well with the neutral taste of the almond milk. This is one of my favourite places to get boba whenever I am in the area. The only thing I don't like is the location because parking can be a hassle at times. I've tried a variety of their drinks so far and my favourite would have to be their strawberry matcha. I like how you can taste the strawberry, but it isn't overly sweet and artificial tasting and it pairs well with the matcha. The matcha quality is also pretty good since it isn't overly grassy or overpowers the other flavour profile of the drink. The banana milk drink is good, but I think it is too creamy in texture and very sweet (even for me!). I would recommend to scale down on the sweetness. The strawberry jasmine tea is very good and refreshing! I highly recommend getting it on a hot day. The tea isn't overpowering and the strawberry isn't too sweet. I can easily finish this drink pretty fast. I would advise against getting the ube latte. I couldn't really taste the ube component at all and then cardamom just overpowers the drink. It also has this weird aftertaste which was not enjoyable. I love ube so I have huge expectations for it. Overall, I would recommend checking this place out of you haven't been here yet. read more

FINALLY got to try Boba Guys! I was going to get something basic but I saw they had a Sapin Sapin flavor and as a Filipino, I JUST HAD TO DO IT. FOR THE CULTURE YOU KNOW haha My fiance ordered a Mango Matcha and I had the Sapin Sapin. The boba itself is so chewy, fresh, and slightly sweet. Excellent boba! But what really blew my mind was how accurate the flavors were!!! The Mango Matcha tasted exactly like mango and matcha! At first all I got was matcha, but after I drank it, I tasted the mango flavor which came in subtly at the end. And then the Sapin Sapin! HOW IN THE HELL DID THEY CAPTURE THE FLAVOR OF JACKFRUIT SO ACCURATELY?! I truly did taste ube and jackfruit with a hint of coconut. Jackfruit is sweet, but also has that funk...and I could taste that funkiness in the drink. I was so impressed! It tasted like Sapin Sapin in liquid form. Happy AAPI :) Great boba! My boyfriend got the lychee oolong with boba. The lychee oolong was fruity, delicious, and refreshing. I love the aromatic of the lychee and the boba was very chewy, soft, and not hard. He would give his drink a 5/5 the BEST drink he has ever had. I got the Korean banana milk with boba. The Korean banana milk was very interesting it was milky, great scent of banana, and you can taste the banana in the drink. It was honestly good, delicious, and sweet. The boba was soft, chewy, and not hard. I would give this drink a 5/5 since it was good. The service was fast & employee is very nice and friendly. The store has a great atmosphere, spacious, and clean. There is a little seating inside the store. There is plenty of parking, but hard to find one because it was packed. I've been to this Boba Guys location before along with locations in LA but my most recent visit to this location was extremely disappointing. I got the black milk tea with boba with their recommended sweetness of 50% just like I always have in the past, but this time, the drink tasted terrible and flavorless. It tasted like water with a hint of tea flavor and sugar. I asked them to add more sugar, hoping it would fix the drink, but it still tasted gross. The boba was chewy but had no taste to it. I'm a decade late to the hype, but I finally had the iconic strawberry matcha tea from boba guys for the first time! Although aesthetically pleasing, it definitely wasn't the best matcha. The profile was very mild and it mainly tasted like milk. I could also barely taste any strawberry flavor :/ The reason I give boba guys a 3/5 instead of 2/5 is their mochi topping. It's an extra $1.25, but it was such a fun texture and not offered at many other boba cafes. My fiancé was not a fan he thinks it's a 'snot-like' texture, but I loved it! Parking was a bit tricky, but there was a steady flow of people coming and going so if you follow someone leaving, you should be fine! I've tried Boba Guys in Northern California before and liked it with the mochi add on, so I was happy to see they have locations here too. This spot is all outdoor seating, so if it's a chilly night, definitely bundle up. I went for the ube latte since I wanted a caffeine-free option. It was okay, not bad, but not something I'd get again. But i'm I glad I gave it a shot. Ordering is super easy with a button to call someone over or a self-serve iPad. Service was fast and friendly! Cute spot, great location! Their staff is very friendly and helpful. Their boba wasn't quite ready when we arrived so we waited another thirty minutes and I'd say it was worth it. I got the Dirty Horchata with almond milk and boba. It was really good. The balance of coffee flavor and sweetness was delicious. It was also very creamy! I also tried some of the Hibiscus Mint tea with boba and it was strong in flavor and very refreshing. I think it was slightly overpriced. The majority of their drinks are. I say this because in comparison to a lot of other boba places I've been to, Boba Guys doesn't have quite as many topping varieties, such as the jellies or fruit. Let's start this review with, I LOVE Boba Guys. Ever since I went to my first one in NorCal and fell in love with their drinks, I follow their social media pretty closely because their start story and their brand collabs are great. So obviously when one opened closer to me, I was stoked. I came to this location and parking was easy enough. There's a ton of parking for this plaza and just a small walk through the walkways to get to where Boba Guys is located on the corner. They have a self order kiosk and then also a register. No line on a Sunday afternoon. No one was at the register but there's a bell you can ring to get someone. I know what drinks I want to I went to the kiosk. I placed my order and waited about 10 minutes for my drinks. They have oat milk options for those who are lactose intolerant. No extra cost either to change to Oatly oat milk! Big win. Now you must be wondering, why only 3 stars when it seems to be an all positive review so far? Well, 2 stars off because the milk teas I got were really weak in tea flavor. Which is never the case at other locations. Another negative was that the boba balls were too soft and slightly slimey, also usually not the case. I generally do most of my drinks here at 50% sweetness here but my tie Guan Ying oolong felt way sweeter than normal. Here's the drinks I got and the ratings I would give each: 6/10 Espresso Milk Tea- oat milk 6/10 Espresso Milk tea - half & half strauss 1/10 Tie Guan Yin oolong Tea- oat milk 7/10 Dirty Chai latte 5/10 Chai coffee cloud 9/10 Dirty banana milk I'm not 100% sure I would come back to this Boba Guys location. The workers in the kitchen also made my drink fast love the efficiency here. This drink is the best dessert it's light and refreshing and the boba is perfectly chewy and sweet.
