My go to drink is the strawberry matcha latte so of course the first time I had it was from boba guys so long ago. I've been eager to try one here in SoCal but not enough to drive to the Long Beach location. Hidden at the edge of this plaza area, you'll find it at a sorta outdoor ordering area. Located in The Camp, Boba Guys is nested in the edge of the mall surrounded by foliage. The natural patio vibe they are going for makes the space feel fresh. Be warned, sometimes there is no cashier at the register so you will need to flag someone down at the checkout window. Though pricey, it truly is worth it. Strawberry Matcha Latte: 5/5 Probably the most basic item on their menu, the Strawberry Matcha Latte is perfection. Perfectly sweet, this drink is SMOOTH. I don't know how they do it, but drinking this feels like you're getting it pumped directly into you via IV. Not too thick, not too thin, rounded out flavors of matcha and strawberry make this a masterclass for a what a well made drink should taste and feel like. The staff was nice and fast, but I feel like the quality of their drinks has gone downhill. Pandan Matcha Caramel: you couldn't really taste the pandan and the matcha wasn't mixed well enough so it was still gritty. They should've swapped the caramel for a different sweetener cuz it just sat at the bottom and didn't add any flavor except sugar. Korean Banana Milk: doesn't taste anything like real banana milk you can get in Korea much less HMart. Also very powdery and gritty. Oolong Milk Tea: it was decent but even 50% was very sweet. Boba was decent though. Good chew and honey ratio. Maybe just stick to the classics and don't try their experimental flavors. read more

Good tea and nice, chewy boba but their straws suck because they don't suck! Their straws are made from some environmentally friendly materials but they're flimsy and cave in when you try to suck up a boba. Go back to the nice plastic straws that don't cave in and deform and work as a boba straw should. read more

Not a fan of the standard jasmine green milk tea here (which is my go to order I drink at least once or more a week at various milk tea shops) I actually threw mine away in the trash after just a few sips and that was even after getting it remade: it just tasted so bland at first like super thick milk without tea and then even after the remake just like sugar milk too sweet and fake-syrup tasting. The reason for 4 stars despite hating their Jasmine green milk tea is that they offer Horchata with boba (non-caffeinated) which my kids LOVE and it's undeniably delicious! Does this boba shop stand out from others? No. It's priced fairly high, and the drinks aren't anything special. They have plenty of caffeinated options available, but only a few decaf choices. My husband got a Thai milk tea with boba, and I got a hibiscus berry fresca with boba. My husband said his wasn't anything more than average. My hibiscus drink had a description that said it would be tart. When I received it, it was so sweet it tasted like sugar water. I was eating lunch from another restaurant so my husband brought it back to see if they could make it less sweet. They tried, but somehow it was even more sweet. They kept offering other things on the menu to my husband, but I didn't want to try anything else. Seemed like the first two people helping didn't know how to process a refund. Once they got someone else up front, they refunded us which I appreciated. So who is this shop for? People who prefer sweeter drinks, and are just looking for something quick to grab. Boba Guys has always had a strong boba tea following up in the Bay Area and it's great that they've made their way to OC. They've got a cute little store at The Camp covered in greenery making it look like the perfect spot to take a boba break. Inside, there's a self-service kiosk where you place your order so I can't say much about customer service, but my drink came out quickly. They don't have as many drink varieties as some places. You won't find slushies or cheese foam here, but they do focus on quality tea drinks and have seasonal specialities like Pink Pitaya and Coffee Mojito currently. I had their popular Strawberry Matcha Latte ($6.75/ 24oz.) with boba ($0.65). They use premium organic matcha and their own housemade strawberry purée. I love that organic milk is their standard but you can also substitute oat or almond milk without an extra charge. I will say it was one of the best tasting strawberry matcha lattes I've had. It had good matcha flavor and the right amount of sweetness. The boba was cooked well and on the chewy/firm side which I like. As much as I appreciate that they use high quality ingredients in their drinks and earth-friendly bamboo straws, I have a hard time paying $6-7 for a boba drink. I love Boba Guys! I have been to their multiple other locations and I'm so glad they have one close by in Costa Mesa. Their drinks are always spot on and they will adjust just how you like it. This one is located in The CAMP in Costa Mesa, which isn't my favorite place only because of the limited PARKING! Otherwise, it's a great location close by to several other establishments and across the way is South Coast Plaza. Again, parking is limited and spaces are otherwise small so go during off-peak time! Drinks: I love their Korean banana milk (caffeine free), strawberry matcha latte, & their classic tea drinks. You can customize the sweetness levels (on most), ice levels, and the type of milk to be used. If there is something amiss about your drink, do let them know and they will try to accommodate. The business itself is more of an order and pick up kind of place since there's no tables/chairs to hang out at (there's only 2-3 chairs at least). With that being said, there are many seats around the plaza to hang out at. They have a pretty diverse menu. You can order at the kiosk or at the register. Horchata: This definitely tasted like Horchata. I would recommend if this is your cup of tea! Ube Latte: This drink is so aesthetically pleasing, haha. It requires a really good mix. It's pretty good, but it also isn't the best thing I've had. The pearls for both drinks were cooked perfectly. Not hard and not too soft, but just a great texture and taste overall. I have heard the Strawberry Matcha is really good if you are needing a flavor to try. Finally got to try Boba Guys after randomly stumbling upon it while walking around and have to agree that this is one of the best bobas I've ever had. I ordered the Matcha Tea Latte with boba which included honey for sweetness which was pretty unique. I'd recommend adjusting the sugar level of the drink because the honey overpowered the matcha flavor, but otherwise it was still pretty good. There are like two chairs available to sit inside and plenty of tables nearby outside if you want to sit down and enjoy your boba. read more

It's more of a pick up and go type spot as there are only two seats available. There are plenty of seats, however directly behind boba guys at the communal area of the Camp. Service here is great. There is usually no line and I get my drink within a couple of minutes. My usual is the strawberry matcha latte with almond jelly. You can actually taste the quality of the matcha they use. It is smooth and not bitter while also slightly sweet from the strawberry puree. My only complaint is that it is pretty pricey. My drink was about $6.40 for a small. read more

Boba guys is finally in OC! The super popular chain from SF makes its debut in the busy OC Camp. It's abit hidden in the very back towards the native foods/vitaly side. The decor has that very trendy wooden modern feel with wood paneling everywhere for them foodies looking for a IG pic spot. Yeah they have an entire wooden ledge for pics or i guess sitting on. You can either order online first or order there. Probably suggest ordering online first especially if you need to park in temp parking to run and grab and go. Currently during covid protocol there are no tables or seats available inside but a standing room only waiting area in the open layout. Matcha Latte - Made with organic premium-grade matcha, milk and honey. One of there popular signature items can be ordered either hot or cold in 16 or 24 oz. You have a choice of whole milk, oatly milk or almond milk. You can also adjust sweetness level. All toppings are extra for $0.65 including boba. Nope can't adjust ice level. The drink itself is pretty tasty but when ordered cold the straight honey is really hard to dissolve at the bottom so you suck up chunks randomly no matter how much you stir it. And yes the matcha inside settles to the bottom if you leave it for awhile so stir often before drinking again! Ube latte - Light and airy - our housemade ube marmalade is shaken with silky coconut milk and a touch of spice. Caffeine-free. No adjustments allowed. Again can be ordered hot or cold either in 16 or 24oz. Your only other option is adding toppings and drop of cloud. Flavor wise its got a nice creamy ube flavor with the nuttiness from the coconut milk. Overall it's pretty good but definitely on the pricier side for the premium ingredients. I've been wanting to try Boba guys and I'm so glad they opened up shop in the OC! My go-to has been the strawberry tea Fresca, I'm a huge fan of fruity boba and I love LOVE that they offer almond jelly instead of boba. I also stopped by the try their Pink Pitaya, which is part of their summer menu, it's not my cup of tea, but then again I'm not much a fan of dragon fruit in general. Their coffee horchata is also a nice treat if you want a nice mix of horchata and the strong shot of espresso. Overall, am happy they not only offer a variety of flavors from all over the globe, but also make an conscious effort to be eco friendly, love that their straws are compostable! Years later, I finally got to try one of their drinks as they finally opened a spot in the OC at the Camp! The aesthetic/design of the place is modern and inviting with most of it being outdoors and the menu is pretty broad with plenty of drinks to choose from! I like the fact that they are alternative milk options for those that are lactose intolerant and I can tell that all their ingredients are fresh and they get high quality tea for their drinks! You can order in person or ahead online for pickup! For my drink, I ordered the Ube Latte and it was delicious! The ube marmalade mixed with coconut milk was a new flavor profile for me that I loved! You get the creamy ube flavor mixed with the sweet nuttiness from the coconut milk that works really well when mixed together with a little hint of spice! Drinks can be ordered in 2 sizes and service was pretty quick after ordering! Parking is pretty easy to find since it's located in the Camp and it most likely pretty crowded on the weekends but on a weekday like when I went, it wasn't busy at all! Overall I give Boba Guys a 4.5/5! If you are in Costa Mesa, I highly recommend giving them a try! Parking around here is a bit tough, but if you're able to find a spot or have a friend drop you off, they're quite efficient. Came here around 4PM on a Saturday and there was no line! I placed my order on the kiosk and had my drink in less than 5 minutes. Their boba had a nice consistency and the strawberry matcha latte was refreshing without being overly sweet. I decided to just use the entire gift card because who knows, this one might shut down too!!!! I got the Thai iced tea and the Hong Kong Milk Tea. Came here last night and had such a wonderful experience! I'm pretty picky with what boba drinks I like - strictly fruity things. So, I've only tried one drink from here but it keeps me wanting to come back! The strawberry tea fresca with boba is *chef's kiss*. I've been to other Boba Guys in California specifically the one in San Francisco, Long Beach, And when they had one in Berkeley as a pop up in the early beginnings. It's in the same area as the lab of Costa Mesa so the aesthetic is like hipster. I was looking for another place that served matcha and I remember that this place opened in Orange County. I happened to get strawberry matcha and the mango matcha latte. I would say strawberry matcha is pretty standard. Mango matcha latte was pretty good! What I didn't like so much was that we had to order from the kiosk and I would have preferred ordering from an actual person. Also there were a ton of teenagers that were trying to order from the kiosk and didn't know what they were doing and no one was helping them. I guess it's getting more of a chain feeling, but feel free to check it out if you're in the mood for mid-tier boba.
