Honestly, this is truly such a great place to stop by get a tea or pastry. Love the drinks and love the food. Although I mainly go for tea right now and my family likes the food and sometimes coffee drinks. The pastries are really quite tasty. They have great coffee sticks which I might try next time too. I love stopping at Philz whenever I travel to California. I was introduced to them back in the day when I was chilling in San Francisco. I love the quality of their beans. I was driving from Newport to Huntington Beach and came across this location in Costa Mesa. The store is a little hidden from the main road and not very spacious. But the drinks and customer service were great as always. I went in wanting to try something new, but defaulted as always to my longtime favorite Ice Mint Mojito. Phil Jaber founded Philz Coffee in 2003 and spent years experimenting with various coffee beans from around the world to create over 30 different unique blends. Each "cup of love" is custom made in front of you and finished off with their signature mint leave. The Philz baristas make sure your drink is to your liking before you pay. I LOVE all things Philz coffee. My 3 star review is not the quality of the coffee but the quality of the service I received here. I frequent the Orange location often and that place is perfection! They are kind, welcoming, and very helpful. This branch was not the same. The baristas were short, they didn't give eye contact when interacting with their customers. It also took so long to be helped when ordering. I was the only person in line and it took almost 3 minutes to get my order started. Happy to say I've officially visited all the Philz locations in the OC area! Since Philz originated in the Bay Area, I love supporting every location whenever I can. Each store has its own unique vibe, and some even offer slightly different menu items. This particular spot is spacious, located near South Coast Plaza, and--bonus--it's not inside the mall. Parking is easy and convenient, if you want to order ahead or pick up quickly. They indoor and outdoor seating. This location tends to get busy probably because it's by the mall and John Wayne Airport, so I recommend ordering through the app. You can grab your drink at the counter without waiting in line. Plus, you get a complimentary upgrade when you download the app for the first time, and you can start earning rewards right away. They also rotate seasonal drinks. I'm still hoping they bring back the Spiced Vanilla Soul--I tried it here and it was so good: smooth cold brew topped with little bits of cinnamon. I also remember getting a burrito here. It was a decent size and tasted pretty good; the hot sauce definitely made it better. If you're hungry and want a quick snack, it does the job. My husband and I went to Philz at Pacific City Friday night and got the Caramel Coconut Coffee for the first time. It was DELICIOUS. I said it was my top pick over all coffee spots. Lately Starbucks just doesn't cut it for me anymore. I like a deeply roasted coffee taste. Philz steps in as a very good option. I usually like to hit up moms and pops but have added Philz to my coffee rotation. I like the Philtered Soul which has hints of hazelnut maple and caramel, unsweetened, and medium cream. I have to admit, I need to branch out and try other coffees on their menu. When something is already so perfect, it's hard for me to try something else I order by app and pick it up before 7:00am so parking is not an issue. We went for a coffee stop after a morning workout. The parking lot is fairly small and half of it is a one way street. It wasn't super crowded inside and we were able to order as soon as we were ready. They have a decent amount of options and flavor combinations available. We tried the Nutty Caramel Nirvana and a Mocha Tesora to drink and ordered a breakfast burrito to go with it. The service was very average, there wasn't much conversation and they weren't really helpful when we asked questions. More specifically, when we ordered we asked for a breakfast burrito (not realizing that there was more than one option) and the person at the register asked which one and when we asked what kind they had she just looked in the general direction of one of the display cases and didn't say anything. Not the worst interaction, but the experience could've been better if she had taken the time to help us. The burrito turned out to also be very okay. It was only a little bit bigger than the packet of Cholula that came with it and did not have a lot of contents in it. The drinks were also very average. The coffee flavor was not very strong and the add ins didn't offer much of an improvement. It was very difficult to taste any of the flavors/ingredients that were supposed to be added to the drinks. This could've been my fault, but by the time we finished the Nutty Caramel Nirvana, there was just one large mound of cinnamon that wasn't very pleasant to consume at the end. read more

I walked here from the hotel. Safe and walkable area. It's Halloween, so has been fun seeing people's costumes! I had the gingerbread latte, hot. So delicious and better than pumpkin anything!
