I made an appointment with Tracy for an updo since I was attending a wedding. My mom has previously gotten an updo here with Bobby for a wedding years ago and had a good experience. I don't know how to style my hair so it was definitely nice getting it done by a professional! I made my appointment about a week beforehand over the phone and texted Tracy an inspo pic. She spent an hour or so meticulously curling and styling my hair. Bobby also adjusted my face framing curls and did little touch ups. My hair was done by 11:45 am and lasted all day! Last minute, my daughter hairstyle cancel on us. I found this Salon on Google and was in the area. Came in as walk in , my daughter's bang needed to be trim. Was NOT greeted or inform. Waited for 15 minutes, when One of the guys was done with his customer blow drying the hair out and at the register paying I spoke to him excuse me can you cut my daughter's hair bang. He said yes if you wait 10 minutes and the other guy interrupts me in the back and said no there's no time. He or that other main person should have said something and let us know in the first place. Bobby has been cutting my hair since I was 10. So he has been my stylist for the last 16 years. I am never disappointed with how he cuts my hair. Even when he doesn't let me cut it the way I want and now I know why. It is because he knows what he is doing and how to make the cut look flattering. I was short on time and went to another salon and they did not give me the same care and treatment that Bobby does. I had to come crying to Bobby to fix my hair. I can never betray Bobby like that again. He takes the time to wash your hair, discuss the cut, and then start cutting. He makes sure things are perfect before you go. I went here for the first time this past weekend, and I must say that I enjoyed it! I think Bobby really appreciated that I called the day before to make an appointment, because it was SUPER busy when I went on a Saturday. The parking lot was really annoying. There are hardly any spots and they share the lot with a busy laundromat. The salon is also located on the ever-so-busy Tully Road which didn't make it much better. Technically you're not supposed to park behind the building adjacent to the fence, but people did it anyways. Even though I had an appointment, I had to wait around 15-20 min. before being helped because it was super crowded. Bobby told me to go get my hair shampooed by a woman towards the back of the salon. After that, the woman led me to a chair and towel-dried my hair, and then I had to wait awhile for Bobby to work on my hair because he was behind on his appointments. Finally he started cutting my hair, and I must say, he works FAST! I've never had anyone cut my hair as speedy as Bobby did. It was also great because even though I had printed pictures of the style I wanted (a-line), Bobby took one look at my hair and somehow could tell exactly what I wanted. He spent awhile styling my cut, which I think took longer than usual because I have extremely thick hair, and then he left to go work on another woman's updo. I think she was going to a wedding that day. Bobby's son came to blow dry my hair while he was away. Later on Bobby came back and straightened my hair and cut my bangs, and then I was finished! I could really tell that he has a great understanding of hair and is a fantastic hair stylist! He really thinned out my thick hair and I love my new do :) My cut costed me $25, without tip. This week I spontaneously decided to walk-in for a *trim* but to my surprise and disappointment, I ended up getting 3-4 inches cut off. Mind you, the stylist assigned to me didn't bother to take a look at my hair pre-wash, which is vastly different to how it looks wet (straight) as compared to dry (coarse and wavy). I stressed that I only wanted a trim and I was trying to grow out my hair. For some reason, he assured me that he'll keep the length. However, once I was on the hot seat, he went ahead and cut 3 inches of straight wet hair and immediately I knew I wasn't going to get what I came in for. When he was done with our appointment, he asked me if it felt good to have my hair lighter. I mean... sure it feels light, but it doesn't solve my original request of just getting a trim. If I got a trim AND my hair felt lighter, then yes it would feel good to have my hair feel a little lighter on my head. I'm pretty disappointed in my experience, and I'm learning my lesson to not be spontaneous when it comes to things involving haircuts. read more

Don't get me wrong. For hair I saw some great dye and cuts. However this review is based on their nail and pedicure "job" I received three weeks ago. It was painful and it was scary-- the lady that did my pedicure drew blood and put something I have no idea what it was on my cuticles. I should have just stopped there and left.... The pattern was uneven and not done well. She put the bottle tip on my toes instead of mid air... who know's what kind of feet was touched prior. My cuticles were also uneven and looked like I had taken a razor and went emo on my toes. I later found they do not use any type of disinfectant when they clean the spa, and the brush she used on feet, as well as the loofa and manicure/ pedicure instruments were not properly cleaned. The manicure was average and the women did not know how to do even french tips.... never going back.... read more

Whoever did my hair the first time charged me a flat rate. Whoever did my hair the second time charged me $5-10 more because he based it on the length of your hair. What the fuck??? Who does that. Not worth a fucking penny of my time. That service is shit. Again, I am no longer sure which of the two guys who did my hair is Bobby K. One of my good girlfriends recommended me to this place so I really, really wanted to like this salon! After resisting for months, I decided to try something new... When I got there, a lady washed my hair and she was quite nice and friendly. However, I was a bit annoyed that she kept splashing water into my ear and it was running down my neck...Water was splashing everywhere! She said, "I'm also cleaning your ear." I thought, "WTH? I came here to get my hair washed and cut, not my ear..." Whenever I get my hair washed, the stylist was always very gentle and careful not to get into my ears. She then put some hot oil into my hair and put me under one of those hot air machines. They kept hiking my hair up so the air would penetrate more into my hair, but the reason why I kept leaning and slouching down was because that thing was burning my scalp from being too hot! I was VERY uncomfortable... After a while she washed my hair again and once again...cleaned my ear and water was dripping down my neck. I had my hair blow dry by one of the guys who works there. After my hair was dry, Bobby came over and asked me how I wanted my hair then immediately answered his own question and said, "Trim and layers right?" I said, "Yes, I want it a bit shorter since spring is here." He started to cut my hair and within a few snips (about 10 mins max), he was done. They styled my hair a bit and the total was $45 ($30 for haircut and $15 for hot oil). I feel like I either have almost a mullet or a boy-ish haircut with long hair in the back. I'm so frustrated every morning trying to figure out how I should style this hair! I felt like he used the same mold for every asian girl that walks in there...but this one just didn't suite my face at all. Sigh...Like I said, I really wanted to like this place.... Well, back to my hairstylist! Pros: -The workers (including Bobby) are very nice! -They work as a team. -Their hot oil smells REALLY good! Cons: - I wish the hairstylist could spend a bit more time on each customer and see what their individual needs are. - The place looks like it could use some cleaning...stains...dust...used combs...etc. - They will wash your hair as well was your ears...at least mine did. read more

I came in for touch up highlights and haircut. I got an appt with Bobby but woman name Thao help with most of my hair. She is VERY sloppy when it comes to bleaching your hair, washing your hair, and dying your hair. She kept splashing water all over my face and kept apologizing. But than she almost put hair dye in my eye. It was annoying and unprofessional. At first, I was just planning to do highlights, but decided to get bobby's cuts that I heard so many girls rave about. He showed me a hairstyle pic in a japanese mag, which was very cute. Side swept bangs and layered. I told him I didn't want to cut off too much of my hair, like an 1in at most. But it looked like he chopped off 2 or 3inches. At first, I liked the haircut. But after a couple of hours of playing with my hair, the look of it started to irritated me. It's so freaking poufy on top. Fast forward 3 days later, I still hate my haircut. It is like a mullet. And it didn't flatter my head shape. Its poufy on top and hella thinned out and long on the bottom. I spend an hour in the bathroom teasing it and figuring out what to do with this shitty haircut. Than I finally just clip it up. The highlights touch up was just okay. It's not bad but you can still the uneven color. Haircut sucks, now I just have to wait for my hair to grow up. At least I gave this place a shot. I came here to trim my hair layer shorter 4 inches. My hair is naturally wavy and I dont have to take much time to make it nicely layers. Even though I showed the pictures, the guy chopped my hair UNEVENLY 10 inches. After going home, my friends and family said it didnt look right, so I came back and asked them to fix for me just a little bit at the tail. I waited 30 mins and Bobby fixed for me. The only thing I can say about this place is that it is terrible. I first went here when I was 20 (a recommendation from my mom's cousin), and I made the mistake of not specifying what I want. I said to the stylist I wanted a layered look, which I thought would be a lightly layered look with some volume retained. See, I have thick hair (a lot thicker than what you would attribute to Asian hair), and I always ask for that cut. For the most part, I've gotten what I want at other salons: the stylist would layer it to give it some texture, but mostly leave the natural volume untouched. Well what I got here was the shag cut, which may look lovely on some girls but was NOT for me. It was a shag kind of cut that was heavily thinned out at the bottom and really voluminous (like a lion's mane) at the top. OMG, I was devastated -- I had to go to a wedding w/ this atrocity of a hairdo. Anyway, afterwards, I reasoned it was kind of my fault. So, 3 years later, I came back (stupid me?). I distinctly told the stylist (not the same one as last time) what I wanted: LIGHTLY layered; no heavy thinning; volume retained. And guess what I got? -- THE SAME CUT as last time !!!!!!!! I wanted to die. The stylist did not listen to what I wanted at all. I don't understand what is wrong w/ those people!!! It's like this is the only cut they do. I read some other Yelp reviews, and some girls got the same cut (which they didn't like btw), so I was convinced. I'm a SJ kid born & raised, but I go to school in Socal. So it's tough getting your hair done unless you know where to go. Since I left for college a few years ago, I've always gotten my hair cut at a place in K-Town, LA. It's tough finding somewhere and particularly, someone who can do your hair perfectly the way you want it. I've been a loyal customer to them the past few years, but if you're getting your hair done at a professional and well known place in LA, it's guaranteed to be pricey! I've always grown up knowing this side of town in SJ like the back of my hand...At least that's what I thought until my best friend introduced me to Bobby K's Salon. I was amazed at the fact that I had never even spotted this place before, especially since it was right across from Lion Plaza. Everyone and their moms know where Lion Plaza is. This area is basically Viet central in San Jose. If you're from here, you know that there's a Lee's Sandwiches, Lee Noodle House, Sweetea, a bunch of bakeries, laundromats, and the Lion Plaza Market. I can't believe I never heard of Bobby K's before. Otherwise, I would have gotten my hair cut here all the time instead of going to LA and draining out my wallet. A few of my friends had been talking about how great this place was, so I had to try it out myself. First, I would like to mention that the limited amount of parking spaces they have sucks because the area is shared with the liquor store next door. The guy who works at the convenience store is a douche bag. I parked my car in a space right in between the salon and his shop, and he came out to scold me to move it. He might have been having a bad day or whatever, but that's definitely not how you treat a lady. Jerk. That was just my little rant about the guy next door. So don't let this affect your impression of Bobby K. Just make sure you don't park directly in front of the liquor store. Next, what I'd really have to say is that although it is a small salon, they'll have people ready for you. If there's even a wait, it shouldn't be too long. They're good with teamwork as in having one person washing your hair, cutting it and another coming right in to blow dry. I was highly impressed. Not to mention, they were all extremely nice and polite. The guy who cut my hair only needed to ask me once how I wanted it done. An actual good Asian Hair Salon place ? F**K YEAH ! The workers here all look like fashion divas and they talk like it too. All very friendly and they ACTUALLY LISTEN TO YOU. My experiences with Asian haircut places is that they seem to have a set haircut that they all practice and what ever you ask them, they will just ignore it and do that one routine to your head. Bobbys on the other hand, they acknowledge your request, give you a little bit of their input and ask if it's OK with you. If you say no, it's a no. If you say yes, they will jump on your hair like its a blank canvas. The plaza is really small and parking isn't the roomiest of places but the vibe in the store is a different impression. The worker I had was named Quynh, it was her first time cutting a guys head because she specializes in female haircut but she did a great job for a first timer. She was a little slow because she was nervous but she did everything according to my request. I asked for a 1 fade but another veteran worker told me to do a 2 fade because it would look nicer with my cut. So I complied and went for it and boy am I happy with it. I have really thick hair and a lot of it on my head so I'm assuming the workers like my hair a lot because at some point during my cut, I had 2 workers cutting my hair. Took about 30-40 minutes to cut my hair, wash it, and style it. On another note, one of the workers is a MASTER at teasing hair. A girl came in and asked if they could make her hair a little bigger. Her hair was pretty compact and dense and a few seconds later, I looked at her again, her hair was ginormous ! I never seen anyone tease hair with that skill and that speed before. I came here to cut my hair of course. I've always heard that bobby k is the place to go. I use to have a good salon place to go to too except, she disappeared and was never to be found again :(. So.. I decided to come try this place out. I have really long hair so any one who cuts it short I will be devastated, yes I came here in hope that they wont hurt me. and gladly that wasn't the issue but..... First of all shitty a*s parking lot, no space whatsoever. It took me 10 minutes to park my car by moving in square inches.I was trying to park in this one space but there was a huge ass truck in front so i tried squeezing my way through, I even had to fold in my side mirrors. That didn't work out so I waited for someone to leave. Literally once you turn in front of the place you have to squeeze your way through and possibly drive your left wheel on the side walk to park. Kay, now hair cut time.. I told Bobby I only wanted my top layer short and leave my last layer the same length. he pointed out Kim Kardashian's hair on some magazine cover and i said "Yes like hers!". as he was cutting away, nothing had gone wrong, but over all my hair looked like a trim. After, he started curling it and I swear I thought this was some kind of complimentary so I didn't ask about it. When I paid him he charged me $40. I have mixed feelings about this place because sometimes I'd go in for a cut and I'd leave very happy and other times I'm just feel mediocre about my new cut. Normally I get my hair cut from the gentleman that has spikey hair & popped collared shirts. A 'trim' to him means 3-4inches chopped off. I usually leave the salon disliking the way it looks but after a few weeks of my hair growing out it starts to look nicer. I went in last week to get my haircut again but ended up getting stuck with the younger lady there (not Bobby K's sister). She asked me how I wanted it cut and really i had no idea besides the fact that i was tired of how my hair looked. She suggested that I get more layers so its choppier on top that way i can have more volume but keep the length of my hair since it'd be more fitful for my face shape. At the time i couldn't picture what she was trying to describe so i just told her to go ahead. I didn't feel rushed at all because she took her time. My hair came out wayyyyy nicer than i had imagined and so far i've gotten lots of compliments about it. I am definitely going back to her! Price is decent. $30 for a wash and cut and $5 to trim your bangs. Their soap and conditioner smells REALLY good too! Staff is extremely nice, they provide helpful tips on how to style your new haircut. I've run into some of the stylist outside of the salon and I'm surprised they do remember their customers even though I go get haircuts once every 4-5 months. read more

This is so far the best place to get a haircut, and I have tried places like Egomechanics, Santana Row. The owner Bobby really knows how to layer Asian hair. I use to hike to the city to get my hair cut after failing to find a good and trusted stylist here in the south bay. I am so happy with my hair cut from Bobby that there is no need to make the trip to the city anymore. He is great at picking the right color too. The color of my highlights was exactly what I wanted. He charged me $110 for cut and three colors for my highlights. Cons: He likes things his way and it's hard to change his mind. I have a weird habit of arriving too early so I was in there at about 10:45 for my 11:00 o'clock appointment with Bobby K who hadn't arrived yet. Another lady was just chilling so she said "let me curl your hair so when Bobby gets here you are ready." I got in the chair and she started curling away. I thought that was so nice of her since I would have just been sitting there reading tips on how to turn him on in the July Cosmo. She was just about done curling when Bobby walked it and he worked his magic right away. In a matter of minutes he was done and voila, he did an excellent job! Probably the best updo I have ever paid for. My hair looked even better than my real wedding hair do. I loved it! He did exactly what I wanted without me having an accurate picture or even giving him a good explanation, it was like he read my mind. If you are the type of person who needs a fancy/trendy salon with the wine and hour long hair cut then this is not the place for you. I have tried salons across the spectrum. However, the bottom line is you gotta find a stylist that fits your needs. I usually go to Joanne at Limon, however it is nice to have someone who is close, inexpensive, and convenient too. This is my second time here. For $30 you get shampooed, conditioner, cut, and style. The first time I was here, I got my hair cut by Brandon. It was a very simple straight cut. He was very fast, but he did try recommending a couple of times if I wanted layers, but I told him no. He was also nice to straight my hair since I had a too curly perm from a few months before. I usually go to Hai but he doesn't work here anymore and now Dan (i think thats his name, his station is the one nearest to the main door), cuts my hair. Dan takes his time and is very careful, he also shampooed my hair before and after the hair cut. My last two visit i have been asking for the modern quiff and he cuts it just the way i wanted. A little higher charge compared to other Vietnamese hair salons but one of my favorite barber shops. Come here very often.

I love Bobby and his crew and i go for the haircuts here. All people know what they are doing. Add the very modest price.

(Please take note that I'm writing this review from what I experience through a friend and not from my own experience.) I real skeptical with Vietnamese hairstylists. Especially the ones that doesn't sweep right after each customer, their main clientele compose of Vietnamese people and has Vietnamese movie playing in the background. Apparently it's the spot that my friend usually go to to get his haircut and he trusts them so I wanted to see for myself how they do. His hair was already short as it is but he felt that he needed a trim and since we were in the area, I suggested that he might as well take advantage of the time we're here. After all, he lives 30 miles away from the place. When I hear trim, I assume that Vietnamese people will automatically trim 3" off. So I was fearful for him. After they were done, I briefly scanned his head and looked at the results. To my surprise, they did a pretty good job. Well, the lady did anyways. My friend said that she was "detailed" in her cuts. Which is always a good sign. So, the verdict is: I think this is a spot for guys to get a hair cut. It's about $10 a cut. I am unsure how they would do for women and since I didn't see any women there getting their haircut, I wouldn't recommend it. (I have one hairstylist that I go to and I'm sticking with her! =]) Try it the spot. read more

Went to Bobby K's for the first time after getting tired of my stylist of 18 years. I wanted something new and flattering, something my stylist has tried but I was never satisfied. I came away very happy with the cut, color and highlights. Bobby, who seems to cut everyone's hair and oversees the coloring and blowouts is very confident but was flexible when I wanted a darker shade of brown than he had selected. I felt uncomfortable when the other stylists checked out my car (nothing head turning) while I was in the chair. The shop was clean and the people friendly. Everyone that came in seemed to know each other. I also ran into my orginal stylist and he was impressed which says a lot. read more

I've been a customer at Bobby's for the past six years. I remember I was really satisfied the first time Bobby gave me a hair cut. I get the usual from him now: super layer all around, side swept bangs, and the V cut in the back. Make sure that if this is the first time you get a "layer all around" haircut, you buy a straightener 'cause that hair will go Mufasa on you every morning! It takes some taming and effort every day to get the layers to settle down, but the look is worth it. Walk-ins are always welcome at Bobby. I usually come in at odd hours like 2 or 3 so that it isn't too crowded. read more
