Came here again for another hair cut. Sadly, the guy who cut my hair last time (Ken), left the salon. I still decided to give it another go with another person at this salon. This time his name was "Brandon". I remember seeing him last time when Ken was cutting my hair, so I assumed he would do just as great as a job as Ken did. So, the final result? Not bad actually. Looked quite similar to how Ken cut my hair. I still liked the way Ken cut my hair more though as he put more layers and volume on the top as I liked it. Brandon did a pretty good job with the layers. I just feel he thinned it out a little bit too much. Again, if you read my past review, I have really thick hair, so I prefer to have my hair cut thinner. But this time it's a bit "too thin" haha. I actually still have the picture of when Ken cut my hair. Maybe I'll take a picture of how Brandon cut my hair and compare it to Ken's. Brandon is a really nice guy, and he does his best to make a conversation with the customer. Only reason for the 4 star is because I wanted to keep the length, but I feel it's a lot shorter than how my hair was when I came in, plus the extra "thinness" in my hair. Other than that, he did a great job with the layering and wonderful customer service. Overall, I still would come back to this salon again. read more

Brandon and Bobby K does wonder for your hair at a very reasonable price. They are really great in what they do. They take time in asking what you want and give you recommendations. Very professional. Highly recommended ! The only downside is parking. It can be challenging so make sure you come in during off peak hours. read more

One of my uncle friend cuts my hair beautiful. I felt alright when he did it nicely to me today. He washed my hair and it was very relaxing. I looked great about my hair. The cutting from the scissors didn't hurt that much. It just felt like a poke but not really painful. When you see my uncle use the razor, it will be more painful if you move while he is doing it. So the best way is to be sweaty and just relax. Bobby shop is great. read more

Bobby is supposed to be a professional or at least he said so. My experience today and his customer service to me is no where near a professional. I am a repeated customer and also had referred many friends and family member. I trusted him to cut a new style for me. I called ahead, set a time, came in and waited for my turn. Everything was fine until 4 unscheduled guests came in with color/dye requests (more money). He rushed over my cut and even turned away a pre-scheduled customer. As he was cutting, I notice it was longer than the style he showed me. I pointed it out and he kept saying he wasn't done. Once he's done, it was still long. My band wasn't cut right either. I asked to shorten it; he hastily gave it two quick chops, then rushed to finish the cut. I was very understanding to let it pass but did tell him I still think it's long, willing to wait it out for a week, paid and left him $10 tip for a $35 cut. I came home and discovered the cut (in the front, by the chin line) to be uneven: right side is longer than the left side by an inch. I called back asking for a fix and explained I will be out of town the next day, so it cannot wait. He kept saying he had four guests to work on and the store about to close in an hour. Even after I repeatedly explained I won't be in town to come by the next day, he clearly wasn't listening. I felt he valued his higher margin jobs over my satisfaction. Bobby, I am very disappointed at your work and how I was treated today. My cut maybe less in money than the four color/dye jobs you prioritized over me, but my trust and loyalty are priceless. And that compounded with my future business and the business from my circle of friends and family is what you will lose forever. read more

I came here before while Ken was still working at this salon and he really was the only reason why I came considering the fact he was the only one that did my hair the way I wanted. However, this last time I came here, I got my hair colored. It was around 12PM and they were eating lunch when I came in and so we had to wait until they helped us.. So when they finally helped my friend and I, I told them exactly what I wanted which was to touch up my peekaboo high lights and to dye the rest black. THAO was so sloppy!!! She got black dye all over my face, neck, and ears and kept apologizing but kept doing it anyways. Not only that, but she also kept lathering my hair when she was dying it being extremely rough with it which caused my hair to fall out and break. She also burned my scalp when she was touching up my peekaboos and the bleach was flying everywhere because she seemed as if she was in a rush.. WE WERE THE ONLY CUSTOMERS AT THE TIME, by the way. Then!!!! As I was waiting for the dye to sink in, she left without telling me. And my hair was not done yet because she still had to touch it up. They did a horrible job on my hair. It has been about a week and my scalp is still full of black dye. Although my peekaboos only needed to be touched up, she messed it up horribly. I looked like a raccoon.. It was an even color before I came to them and after I left the salon, my blond was about 4 different colors ranging from a dark orange to white -____-" thankfully, the next day I went to Hair And Skin Beauty Salon to get it fixed. There is only one person I will trust to cut my hair every single time and that person is Tracy. She listens and understands exactly what I want and never pressures me to do anything I don't want to do unlike Bobby has done in the past. I will only request for Tracy because she makes me feel comfortable and she will cut the length I request, never cutting shorter than expected which I am so thankful for. I think its quite a deal for having a deep condition and a cut for $50. I will follow her where ever she is working but for now it is at Bobby K salon. read more

I am very unhappy with my visit today. I came in for a trim. When I first came here about 2 years ago, a trim was $20. The next time was $25 then $30 and now $40. Come on, for just a trim? Honestly the cost wouldn't have been as big of a deal if everything else wasn't so bad. My issues: 1. The haircut cloth had hair from the previous client (a good amount like they didn't even bother to dust it off) 2. They didn't bring out new or even clean scissors! And they use the same pair at the same time with another client. 3. Felt like Bobby K rushed through it 4. I would never come back here. Bobby was trying to rush through to do my hair-cut. I told him I wanted to keep the length and a nice layer; he chopped off more than an inch of my hair! He was rushing through it so fast that there was hair all over my face. I did not like the lady who was washing my hair as well. She did not do a great job. Worst part is they charged me $40 for the cut. I don't mind paying 40-50 dollars but this place is totally not worth it. Came here to get my hair done before I went to Vegas all I wanted was for a lightr brown color, unfortunately bobby wasn't there so the lady said she was absolutely SURE she can do my hair the way I wanted it... But the outcome she fried damaged my hair bleached it TWICE and my hair turned out orange .... 0 stars. Came here for red ombre and he had like 3 different guys or "colleagues" (I think they where just his friends he was helping out) working on my hair. I was tryim g to tell them it burned and they didn't understand me. Bobby would check in time to time and I told him it didn't feel right. He told me to be quiet or he would burn my hair when I tools him I didn't want my hair fried. He said it jokingly but my was ruined. This happened in 2013 right before my college graduation. I told him it didn't look anything how I wanted and he shinned me on and took my $120 because I had long hair. In the weeks to come my hair turned pink and then orange then it was like hay. They ruined my hair and didn't even care. It literally took 3 years to get my hair to normal health but it was never the same after that. Big lesson learned for me. You get what you pay for. I love Bobby! I've been going to him for over 7 years now and I always leave his salon happy. I recommend that you make an appointment with Bobby if you'd like him to cut your hair. He's also really good at coloring since he gets the concept of color theory unlike other Vietnamese salons. came here with my mom to get a haircut for her. it was our first time here, and we didn't know what to expect. some guy washed her hair, etc. and then bobby zoomed in, came to cut her hair, then on to the next one. he was super fast, and at first me and my mom were thinking it was just going to be a normal haircut like every AzN place out there, but after one of his subordinates was done blow drying, it was like she lost 15 years. she looks so much younger and it's....awesome. she loves the cut. +20billion points. the total came out to $30 not including tip. on a side note, the workers are very nice here too :) read more

i was reminded why i stopped going here years ago today. I went in thinking okay maybe i can get a great cut. I asked for a long bob, and showed him the picture i wanted. He looked at my phone and made a grimace and said "no..will not look good on you. not good on asian women." and proceeded to tell me i needed layers. Where should I start? I've been going to Bobby K for as long as I can remember for my hair cuts, colors and such. I came in this time for a hair cut and end up perming my hair too! WOW! I was really nervous, I have not done anything extreme like this. BUT I have alot of trust in Bobby K. So I went ahead with my perm and LOVE it! He never let me down. I usually don't write reviews, but if i dont write this review i dont think i can sleep well at night. I went in with my husband, we both wanted a haircut. Bobby charged me $35 and my husband $10 but he spent 10 min cutting my hair and 30 min +cutting, styling, and massaging my husband's hair. Wow we all know why! Used to be my favorite place to go to get my hair cut, but the last time I went, I was really disappointed. It was like they didn't even cut my hair at all. I went home and had my little sister cut it cause I was really disappointed because it was still too long and there were barely any layers. Had specifically requested Bobby the owner to cut my hair since I heard he is skillful at what he does however he really does not listen well to customer request. He spent a long time trying to convince me to have my hair cut his way (much more layered and shorter at the bangs) and I gave in and thought, what the heck, he's the hair stylish, he should know what looks good, right? NOOO! I decide my own hairstyle next time. My bangs was just too short and my hair too layered making it feel super thin and my face overall looks too young, and somewhat tomboyish - not what I was shooting for at all. Sigh. Oh well hair will grow back. His skill at layering is good, but I think this style that he likes to cut will look better on someone with longer hair. read more

I used to always go to Bobby, he was the first one to give me my A-Line cut that I've had for two years now. Came back every 4 weeks for my trim. I really liked it the first year he cut it, then he just started rushing on my hair! His assistant Brandon cut my hair a few times, but it didn't come out as nice as Bobby's. I'm giving this place four stars because of Bobby, without him this place would be a mediocre Vietnamese hair salon. The parking is a little pathetic since it only fits like four cars in the middle of a busy street... I almost got into an accident a couple of a times. The workers aren't exactly the most pleasant either... I feel if any other race besides Asian went there, they'd consider this typical Vietnamese courtesy rude but hey, they do decent hair. I've gone here for various different reasons. Drastic cuts, updos, highlights, trims... They do a good job in my opinion. But with the really complicated stuff I definitely reccomend Bobby. My first time was to cut my shoulder length bob to a boy trendy looking cut above the ears. It turned out awesome. I was very happy with it. Bobby was in a rush since he had another appointment but it still turned out really nice. He knew what I was trying to go for and gave me some feedback too. I asked him if he could cut it shorter but he didn't want me to end up looking like a boy which was needed. It cost me about $30-$35 with tip. I've also come here for an updo for prom and they do a really nice job too. It definitely lasted through the night with all the hairspray they used. This too was about $30-$35 bucks. The last time I came here I got some highlights done which cost me around $40 but I had short hair at the time so I'm not sure how much it would be if my hair was longer. I've gotten trims etc, from the other workers too and my advice it TO BE FREAKIN' SPECIFIC. If you want a trim, make sure you specificy how much you want to cut off. Specify meaning, show them with your fingers/where on your face, etc... Overall, I like this place. Definitely better than the other cheap crappy Vietnamese salons around. read more

I used to love coming here because I usually walk out with a pretty decent cut, lately I've not not walked out with a cut that I specifically asked for. Dont get me wrong, the cuts and styles they give me are nice but not what I wanted. The last time I went in, showed them I wanted a mid back length with thinned out straighten layers (that's what I usually get when I come here and they know that), but Bobby decided he wanted to keep my length (which happens to be passed my butt) and give me curls (uh i wanted it straighten because I already had naturally curly hair). So final result was nice but I was really disappointed because it was not what I wanted at all. I didnt wanna fight it and just paid for it since it was still pretty nice. I used to come here when I thought I knew what I wanted from 13-17. They have two styles. Long layers or short with really thin bottom layers. Trim ? No such thing. I consider them the asian supercuts. They get the job done, don't listen to you, and charge more for what they offer. I came here after four years of being away because my usual place was booked for the next month :( I thought why not? I used to be satisfied here. Regret. Came in for a trim, got two inches and my thick hair thinned down to nothing. One star because they're really nice and know my mom, another for doing my eyebrows really nice. Yay for layers and nice hair cut! I was recommended by Layla to come here to get my hair cut. I always want to keep the length long and I want layers and my hair with a bit of volume. I went to Donna Le and she is a great hair stylist. She cuts my layers very nice and the length she kept it long just like I asked her. She even showed me how to have volume in my hair... sucha simple way. Donna Le is great, should get a hair cut from somebody that LISTENS... and does not overcut! I might even come there to bleach my hair... but I will see. Price is not that expensive as well! read more

I literally just got back from this place an hour ago, with some great hair and a four-star review for this salon! Knocking off one-star for my sister's previous time here (she'd doesn't Yelp so I'm doing the honors). She had another guy do her hair because Bobby wasn't available, and man...HAHAHAHA at the end result. It was SO bad! Tough luck, sis. Girls--fight tooth and nail for hairstylist Bobby! My mom insisted I get my hair done at Bobby K before going back to school (she and her friend swears by this salon) but I resisted and she persisted so I ended up making a 9:30 appointment with Bobby. I was sooo skeptical of this place because my sis had came out looking like a deranged chicken, but I surprisingly came out with some great layers! The way they set up their work is pretty cool. It's almost like an assembly line--one lady washes, one guy cuts, and another guy dries. Bobby works UNBELIEVABLY FAST! In one hour, he managed to cut THREE heads (that's $100 in an hour--hot DAMN!!!). He worked on my head first, and while another dude (spiky blonde guy) dried my hair, he moved over to another lady and worked on her head, and it kept rotating like that. After the third, he returned to my dry-finished hair and finished layering. I have long thick straight hair, and didn't know what to do with it so I just asked for some layers but to keep the length. Bobby's REALLY good with layering. He cut my bangs too since he assumed it's what all the young people go for, and the end result is pretty good. Best of all, he managed to keep close to my original length! It IS a pretty safe cut though, so if you're going for something daring and outrageous, dunno how you'll fare. Thanks, Bobby!!! read more

I've been here on and off for 6 years now. You get what they feel like at the moment. They are usually either thorough and beyond amazing or crappy like you just walked out of Supercuts. Always get your hair cut, colored or designed by Bobby. He can identify what works for your face shape when it comes to cuts or what hair color works for your skin tone. But sometimes he is a hit or miss. I've had him walk off to eat a rice crispy in the middle of cutting my hair. Very unprofessional. I went in here recently to get my hair colored. They had to strip the black out of my hair, which Thao did. She is very chatty but nice. She is sloppy in applying the bleach. It splashed over my shoes and face. I walked in at 4:30pm and came out at 7 looking like a splotchy dog. She told me she will continue it the next day to achieve the color i want. I originally wanted a strawberry blonde but she tried talking me into a fiery copper. The next day i came in and Bobby happened to be there. He took one look at my hair and fixed the spots that haven't been stripped yet. He also told me what color looks best with my skin tone. Thao kept trying to push me to dye my brows to match the hair color which i kept telling her i did not want! Bobby disagreed with her which made her stop. Brandon is another hairdresser that you should definitely see when Bobby isn't there. He listens to how I want my hair cut and is knowledgable of haircolor. I came in last year to have my hair colored blonder. He talked me out of it and to put highlights and lowlights in my already orange-y hair. The results looked beyond fabulous. I had so many compliments on my hair color. Hai should also been seeked when Bobby and Brandon are busy. He is very gentle with washing your hair and hair dying. Ive also seen him cut other customer's hair and it looked awesome. My sister had her colored by him and he did a great job. I give -1 star because the color stripping wasn't done very well. Overall, i love my new hair color. And the price was decent. 120$ for both color stripping and all over color, not including tip. read more

Despite the more suspicious area, Bobby himself is a good hairdresser. However, depending on when you go (whether it is busy or empty), the attention you will receive to your hair and the quality of your experience will vary. On good days, I love my haircuts here, although it is a couple of dollars more than other places I have gone to. On busier days, I feel like I am a neglected customer. I hardly write reviews but every time I looked at myself in the mirror then I think I should (even it has been over two months now, I am still upset).This store is totally a joke. It was my ONE time visit, never come back. First, It's overpriced for the location (come on, east side San Jose) and the people who works there including Bobby are disrespectful, one of the lady asked me where I used to go to cut my hair, after I sincerely told her where, she started to bad mouth about that store that made me felt like I was both stupid and old fashion to choose that store for my hair cut. I had my hair done by Bobby and I really disappointed because he thinks he's pro so he just did what he wanted, he didn't care about what I want or how I will look after the haircut, he cut my hair really short and trimmed so much without asking me.
