My family of 3 came here for pre theatre dinner as one does for a 7pm show ( Death of. salesman) at the Winter Garden Theatre that is only about a 10 minute walk from the restaurant. The atmosphere, service and decor are classic and my son was fascinated with all the drawing of famous white way talent. We ordered the beef lasagna which was decent and plentiful- my wife ordered the chicken quesadilla which was delicious and my son ordered a cheeseburger with fries which was quite a hefty piece of burger! Overall a nice time - we got our check at 6:15 and made it to the front doors of the theatre by 6:30pm Next time I'll come up for a cocktail at the upstairs bar - take in the city streets from above read more

This place really hit the spot. Especially after seeing Cursed Child in Broadway! From the food, to the ambiance...it certainly was a magical experience. Also another thing were the impeccable staff. They really knew their stuff. Especially about the caricatures and the food. You felt at ease being here. You definitely would want to return again. My favorites for the evening were the steak and that dessert. I did not get to take a picture since I inhaled it. I believe it was a raspberry chocolate thingy. We went to Sardi's in early November for a girls' night before seeing Romy & Michele at Stage 42, and it was exactly the old‑Broadway, slightly kitschy experience we were hoping for. The room is lined with classic caricatures and feels very "time capsule," a little dated but in a way that's clearly part of the charm. And you're probably paying a bit extra for this as well. I had the Shrimp Salad, with jumbo shrimp over greens and citrusy vinaigrette, and my friend had the cannelloni; both were enjoyable and the service was impressively fast for a pre‑theatre crowd. There's a bathroom attendant, which always makes me feel a bit awkward, but she kept everything spotless and even helped me fix my dress, so she genuinely improved the experience. Overall, Sardi's delivered exactly what we wanted: solid food, quick service, and a very old‑school Broadway atmosphere before our show. read more

Walked in without reservations to have pre-show drinks. Located the heart of Times Square across from Shubert Theater where we were going to see a show. The place was super busy but we were able to get a small table upstairs that overlooked the street. Being from out of state this place is what I imagined an old school Italian restaurant would look and feel like - very nostalgic and even some customers speaking Italian (loved that). The walls are covered with caricatures of famous people that have dined there. We walked up to the bar to order our drinks and didn't have to wait long for them to be brought to the table. This is a very well known restaurant in the NYC area. It is located right in the heart of Times square and is a good choice to go to if you are catching a show in the area. This restaurant is filled with the walls covered in Caricature's of famous people who have once dined here. This is a big tourist spot. There is a small bar area to your left when you walk in too. My friend and I both had a salad for dinner and no cocktails. I had a cob salad and my friend got the chopped one. Hers looked better than mine. She said it was very good. We both ended dinner with cappuccinos and a I had a decaf one. If you use the bathroom here it's very chilly in there at least in the ladies room. And there is a bathroom attendant who is very nice. read more

We stumbled upon this spot simply because it was close to the Broadway theater district and had an open reservation -- and wow, did we get lucky! I later learned this place has a long history of celebrity visitors, which made the experience even more fun. The walls are lined with charming caricature portraits that give the restaurant such a unique, nostalgic feel. I tried one of their signature dishes -- the cannelloni with beef and veal -- and it was absolutely delicious. I ordered the appetizer portion along with a spinach salad with bacon dressing, which was the perfect amount of food before our show. My wife came to town and asked if we could go here for dinner. Due to the proximity to the show we were seeing I said yes. You're greeted by a welcoming host who gives you that old school charm that makes you feel like you're in a movie from the 60's. That's it, that was the highlight of the evening. Took about 10 minutes for a waiter to come over and my wife ordered a cosmo and me a ginger ale. Some above avg white bread and butter was brought over and we waited. And then we waited. My wife's drink showed up but mine never did, just a ginger ale mind you. The waiter eventually came over and we placed our order. My daughter wanted one meatball with her kids pasta so I asked if we could add that? The waiter muttered something about meatballs and I didn't have time to decipher what it was. (Still no ginger ale at this point). I ordered cooked shrimp in a cream sauce over pasta instead of Jazmine rice, the wife got a caprese salad and my other kid got a mozzarella sticks. It didn't take too long for the food to come out but long enough that we asked for the check as soon as it did because we were cutting it close to the show. I finally got my ginger ale and it was as flat as a board. I had to ask the guy who brought my food to get me a new one but he didn't understand what I was saying. Our waiter finally came over and asked what I had asked his colleague, and I said my ginger ale was flat. He came back about 5 min later to inform me he had to get it from the bar because his soda machine was flat. Awesome, things you could have been doing instead of giving me a play by play. I was literally finishing my last bites when I finally got my drink which was maybe a measuring cup of liquid by volume. The food was avg and bland at best. My wife's caprese salad was flavorless. Then we got the bill. The one meatball we asked for was an entire order of meatballs which were $25. My pasta instead of Jazmine rice was an extra $15, which I was never informed of. And my ginger ale was $6 which had to have been a dollar an oz. Total bill for 4 people was over $200 which for the time we were there cost us $4.25 a minute. Honestly, take your money elsewhere. It's fake NY charm where they charge you like an upscale restaurant which they are not. And tbh the majority of these "institutions" are some of the worst food I've eaten, it's all that nauseating overkill charm they do to make you think you're some VIP and then slap sandwich bread down in front of you and up charge you for everything. read more

The bartender delivered a perfectly crafted martini and instantly provided an appetizer of Ritz crackers and potted cheddar cheese when we were hungry. My first time at Sardi's-ambiance is great, and for such a big restaurant you can actually hold a conversation without yelling. Had oysters & the shrimp cocktail as apps, both solid but nothing to write home about. Main course-turkey club & a burger, medium. Wife loved the club, the burger was inedible. Looked & tasted like a hockey puck. Cut it in half, nice pinkness, but totally devoid of any moisture. Like eating a cup of sand, I don't know how they did it-too long under a heat lamp? Kristy and I found a spot to squeeze into and two very kind ladies who were getting ready to go gave us their spots. We ordered French martinis. At $20 a pop they were a little steep but were strong enough to sip slowly while we waited for the theater to open. They served food as well but we had just eaten. I chose this restaurant for dinner on Valentine's night because it was next door to our broadway show and it's a historic place. I also wanted to see all the caricatures. Luckily, we were able to snag a last minute reservation and we were seated in the upstairs dining room. The server was very friendly and our food was delivered quickly. The food was okay. Pasta didn't taste fresh and all the dishes were overloaded with cheese. Compared to other Italian spots, this place is pretty subpar. Our favorite part of dinner was dessert. We ordered the "Chocolate Decadence." The cake was really moist and had all the chocolate flavor without being too sweet. Lastly, during our dinner, they decided to move tables and chairs in the dining room. And although the servers tried to be quiet while doing it, the manager was really loud with giving directions. A landmark restaurant in the theater district is a must do experience at least once in your lifetime. Great before or after shows. The who's who from Broadway normally hangout in the upstairs bar. A speciality drink is the champagne cocktail (a sugar cube, dashes Angostura bitters, Champagne, finished with a lemon twist) a tried and true cocktail that has stood the test of time. Service can be a little challenging especially if the restaurant is full. I have been here on several occasions by myself or attending sponsored events. The staff is friendly and respectful. I always walk away very satisfied and feeling like I have walked where stars and power brokers have mingled over the decades. A true New York experience that should be on your bucket list. read more
