There's nothing like decent cattle. I love a good steakhouse but don't frequent them nearly as much as I'd like, and usually have to strategically wait for a Restaurant Week to really get down. But thankfully a work colleague invited a few of us out this past Tuesday and I was able to sup on high quality wine and bovine without the assistance of Restaurant Week. Was it the most amazing steak ever? No, but it was really good and since none of it was my money, I can't even really yowl about insanely high price points. This particular Wolfgang's is only a few blocks from my office, so a very easy trek post-work. This neighborhood though has been utterly insane over the past month or so due to the Knicks' playoff run and ultimate championship win, coupled with World Cup insanity. This specific day happened to be a Match day, so there was definitely extra foot traffic in an area that's always really busy. Is what it is. As steakhouses go, this type of vibe isn't my favorite - the vast majority of the customer-facing establishment is just one giant room. There's at least one or two more intimate side areas by the restrooms but overall you're just sitting in a big square with other people essentially, with some obligatory wall space devoted to wines and spirits. Always a pleasant optic. We got there around 7PM and were seated right by the window in a corner, which in hindsight was probably ideal versus being in the middle of the chaotic square room. Understandably I focused my attention on the bovine section of the menu. No offense to what I'm sure are perfectly fine seafood offerings, but I think it's all about the cow at a steakhouse. It seemed pretty clear coming in that the signature entree is the Porterhouse for Two, so I mentioned my interest in it at the table and very easily convinced one or two colleagues to assist so I didn't come off as rude for ordering a dinner meant for multiple individuals. I don't actually have a ton of experience in high-end steakhouses, so it's always a pleasant surprise when the steak is carefully cut up for me like a young pup. Into it, since I definitely wouldn't just know instinctively where to slice it up. It was tasty, and in the moment very flavorful and on the delicate side. I usually don't go near the steaks with bone, but with the aforementioned pre-cutting (I'm sure there's a more sophisticated term) it wasn't an issue and I was also able to bring the bone home for one of my lucky canine chums. Honestly a little too fatty for me - I'm assuming that's part of the deal with the porterhouse but I'm just not into those strips of fat, which I'm sure are very much contributing some taste but I think the gamier texture of those strips cancels out the good. I also ordered the crab cake and some pecan pie to bookend this adventure. Both were very good but by the time we got to pie I was pretty much down for the count and definitely didn't appreciate it was much as I wanted to. And I'm pretty sure my corporate counsel colleague chum ate 90% of it but that was not the hill to die on that particular evening. Honestly the star of the show for me was probably the Opus One wine, which was one of the pricier wines I've ever had (they charged $600 for the bottle and we may have accidentally gotten two). I'm usually more of a white wine drinker but obviously red is the correct call at a bovine-centric eatery. Really fantastic - in the moment, I thought it was extremely smooth and velvety, which is a huge plus for me and also the reason I only buy Evian. The texture wins the day but all of the fruity notes were great too. I don't know that I'm plunking down a few hundred for a bottle of anything on principle, but I'm remembering this one for a future good time. The service was fantastic for the most part other than an odd blip at the end. Our waiter was very attentive and in what I felt was a great quality, instinctively knew that I should be given preferential treatment with the expensive wine, so he was over at my glass much more than anyone else's. They definitely paced out a lot of the food strategically, but towards the end one of my colleagues ordered a round of sambuca that took an insanely long time to get to us, literally close to 25 to 30 minutes. I wonder if there was a legit issue behind the scenes because it was uncharacteristic compared to the rest of the hospitality received. Very cool experience. I'm more into those old school steakhouses that feel a little cozier and not so corporate, but we don't say no to expensive wine and pleasant cattle situations. read more

Awesome pre-Rangers/Kings game dinner at Wolfgang's. We usually go to the Greenwich St location but were in the area so decided to try it. We were warmly greeted by both hosts upon entering, and promptly seated. Had a nice spacious corner booth table, and as the dining room was filling up I appreciated how they spaced tables, didn't just fill ppl right next to each other as most places do. Large parties had room to stretch and couples had privacy as well. We were warmly greeted by our server KENNY. He advised us that he'd worked at the Tribeca location for many years and was now here. He promptly took our order, crab cake and the ribeye, medium. The crab cake was good but dry, like it'd been sitting out a while but the ribeye was stellar!!!! The ribeye didn't arrive as hot as I would've wanted but I think it might've partially been because I'd asked to receive both dishes together. Nonetheless it was delicious, flavorful and tender. For dessert I chose the tiramisu with whipped cream & strawberries and it did not disappoint. As the dining room filled up however, we didn't get as many check-ins as I'm accustomed to at Wolfgang's. After our steak was served we ate and were ready for dessert and flagged down a server, worried we'd be late for the game. Great restaurant, as they have others in the area and each spot is spot on. Good service and ambiance. Steaks are on point with good table service. The wolfgang salad is a great starter. Good amount of veg with thick bacon. On point as a starter before the proteins. A must is the bone in rib-eye. Great flavor tasty tender steak with a char. End it with their wonderful cheesecake which ends a meal well. Always a great meal at any of their establishments and this one in midtown by MSG delivers. I found myself in Wolfgang's Steakhouse, 2 negronis deep and a bottle of Chianti on the way when I mustered up the gumption to ask the server, "Does Mr. Puck ever come in?" The table laughed in unison. One of those laughing-at-you laughs. My blood began to boil. The waiter informed me that the founder is Wolfgang Zwiener, not Wolfgang Puck. Someone at the table snickered and said "You didn't know that Johnny!?" "WELL OBVIOUSLY NOT, SHARON. HOW MANY WOLFGANGS DO YOU PERSONALLY KNOW? DON'T MAKE FUN OF ME FOR AN HONEST MISTAKE." I responded vehemently. I realized, as I was buttering another complimentary bread roll, that I am getting too defensive. This table will smell blood if I show any more weakness. I turned on my best Shai Gilgeous-Alexander nonchalant demeanor and said "Y'all are right, I'm dumb. I'll get back to the drawing board and get better." At this moment, the Porterhouse for 4 hit the table. The unmistakable noise and aroma of meat crackling into the ether cheered me right up. A true feast for the senses. Perfectly medium rare with a slight crisp on the edges... damn I'm getting hungry just typing this back. Melts in your mouth. This might be a hot take, but I much prefer Wolfgang's to Peter Luger. The food is directly comparable, but I was shocked at the ambiance at Peter Luger: bright lights, patrons dressed in sweats and hoodies, and servers who only care about turning tables quickly. We had a 7:30 reservation and after being told 3 times that our table was coming up, we finally were sat around 8pm. Restaurant is very busy, but a nice interior, I like the ceiling in particular. The thick canadian bacon is a must and a great way to start, as was the shrimp cocktail, though quite pricey. 6 for $49. The steak though was fantastic and one of the best I've had. We had the porterhouse medium rare and it was amazing. So tender and flavorful...exactly what a steakhouse steak should be. The creamed spinach was also spot on and perfect. The mushrooms were average at best and hashbrown potatoes were mediocre and wouldn't order those again. I saw many orders of fries which come out like a nest of fries, so maybe try that next time. For dessert the key lime pie was just ok...a little overly sweet. But the cheesecake was light and perfect way to close the dinner. read more

Had a friend from overseas visiting and so had to take them to a nice steakhouse so chose Wolfgang. We've been here years before and had a good experience. We had a weekend lunch reservation right at open and were seated right on entry. Service was friendly and very prompt. We ordered the porter house with sides of cream spinach and onion rings. Everything was pretty good and their house sauce gave the steak a nice zing. We got medium rare and while there was one piece that I thought the middle felt a tad not warm enough, all in all it was good. The restaurant itself is quite nice and spacious. Stopped for dinner after a matinee show and it was pretty quiet for a Sunday evening, though it did get busier. The interior has a very modern feel and look out into a courtyard. The mezcalita is worth getting. We ordered Caesar salad, split the ribeye, baked potato, and broccoli. The filet mignon and kids chicken tenders (yes...) were also on order for us. The steak was more medium rare than medium but cooked nicely on the heated plate. The ribeye was very good and even the sauteed broccoli was tasty (good enough for a mention here). read more

The porterhouse was sad. It was dry and tasteless; the plate was drenched in 'meat juice', which I suppose was an attempt to compensate for the steak's toughness and blandness. Check out steak photos from other reviewers too - They can't seem to get the sear and juiciness right. The Brussels sprouts were flavorless, crunch-less, and tasted like they were heavily blanched. The onion rings were meh - Thin and plain. DRINKS I'm not an expert in this area, but the cocktails felt diluted and not well mixed. SERVICE The servers were arrogant and rude. It kind of felt like they were trying to be posh but weren't? We only received one water refill, and that was after we had finished our meal and were finally able to wave down service after a few attempts. We also asked for hot water because someone in our group was sick, and it was served in a plastic cup without handles, on a dinner plate... Grateful; but I didn't want to take it but he insisted - it was a little awkward. - nonetheless- a great gesture - Long story short; the entire staff replicated this type of demeanor the entire time making our experience one of the best I've ever had. First and foremost, service was absolutely atrocious. We were completely invisible. A table next to us and seated after us got their drinks and appetizers in a reasonable time while we still waited. About 30 minutes after ordering our drinks, I finally was able to grab the maitre d' and get our drinks. Nonetheless, we still waited for appetizers. Food and drink were decent. I agree with many other reviews here it is at least slightly overpriced. They tried to sweeten us up at the end by giving us a slice of cheesecake on the house. This was definitely the weakest of the food items we had and really a sad attempt to make things right. Almost as limp as the maitre d' saying things throughout the dinner like, "Everything is under my control now," and "Now, you will receive only the best service." Overall, solid first experience visiting Wolfgang's. The food was excellent and prepared as expected to seat a table of 6 for dinner. Our reservation was easy to make and seated on time. Our table enjoyed both a porterhouse and the tomahawk to share along with various sides. Only areas that didn't meet a 5-star expectation were the service and ambiance. It is an incredibly crowded restaurant, which gets very loud for fine dining standards, and you're going to struggle carrying simple conversation (especially if loud birthday chants happen on any particular night). The waitstaff don't necessarily share tables, so it takes some time to track down the appropriate POC to get you what we need. They mixed up our wine order, which is just a symptom of having so many people crammed into the dining area and so many tables to cater to. read more

This was one of the most disappointing customer service experiences I've had, especially for a fine-dining restaurant like Wolfgang. Before arriving, we called ahead to confirm our visit and were told that 8:30 p.m. was fine. However, once we were seated, it immediately felt as though the staff was trying to rush us out. As first-time guests, we wanted to take our time reviewing the menu, but the staff seemed impatient to take our order. Less than five minutes after our appetizer arrived, we were already being asked to place our main course order, which made the experience feel hurried and uncomfortable. The bread was served cold, and while one staff member kindly warmed it after we mentioned it, this should have been addressed before serving. We also ordered a sirloin cooked medium-rare, but it was served rare. What made the experience even more frustrating was that we were only told "not to feel rushed" when we asked for the bill and a to-go box--despite the entire meal feeling exactly that way. We spent over $350 on this meal, and for that price, the experience was absolutely not worth the money. This dinner was meant to celebrate our anniversary, and instead, the rushed service and lack of attention completely ruined what should have been a special evening. My partner and I are usually very understanding when it comes to service, even when it's not perfect, but this particular location fell well below the standards expected of a Wolfgang restaurant. **WORST SERVICE EVER**!! I felt as if I was in an episode of Downton Abbey where the staff looked down their nose at me. During my entire dining experience I was very uncomfortable. The NEGATIVE Service: No introduction, Lack of response, did not ask if we had questions about the menu, when reaching over us or adding items to the table did not say excuse me, pardon me, may I? Just reached over us with knives, they did not crumb the table, did not suggest a second glass of wine(loss of revenue, I'm a drinker). I could go on and on. MAJOR ISSUE! We wanted to pay separately as I drink alcohol and my friend does not, they will not share the cost of alcohol. I asked if we could have a separate check or pay separately I was told to do the math myself. Huh? While this is not a Michelin rated restaurant it's not cheap. I refuse to work to pay you for my dinner and receive bad service. I have never been to a place where, on one check shows the different meals or where they can print out two slips. If that's not the case here this restaurant is not for me. The server had no problem asking if we were paying the tip separately. However, last night I was with a friend and my daughter. Ken's service and attention was consistent to my business dinners. He patiently answered all of my daughter's questions, gave helpful suggestions and even chatted with us about Futbol (Soccer). All 3 of us ordered different temperature steaks and they were cooked as requested. Made a reservation through Opentable for 5:30pm today. We were greeted warmly and sat down at our table. Salem was our server. He was very attentive. We ordered crab cake, and bacon for appetizers. For main dish we got porterhouse for 2, and my son got filet mignon. My daughter had plain mac and cheese. All food were piping hot and extremely tasty. Our steak was so tender and flavorful. My daughter said her mac and cheese was one of the best she had ever eaten. Overall very happy with the experience. It is not cheap of course, but we think it is worth the money. read more

Wow wow wow, amazing dinner tonight, everything was perfect and the service was immaculate, the fact that our server Rinor and all of the staff were working so hard on New Year's Eve says so much about how much they love this place. We're in town for NYE and from LA, we didn't know what we wanted but we knew we kind of wanted to share with each other, once we told Rinor he suggested all of our dishes and we totally went with it, the presentation was perfect, from the beginning they were absolutely on top of making us feel so special, the food was perfectly balanced and the portions were large and more then enough for all 5 of us, the steaks were delicious and perfectly prepared, the elegant ambiance was perfect and it ended up being one of the most memorable. We will definitely go back to this location next time we come to NYC, and we will definitely be visiting the Beverly Hills location when we are back in LA. read more

I'll give them 5stars on the collective of a bunch of what I'll call 4-4.5 star night. Porterhouse for two was ordered medium rare. My friend is Brazilian and always get medium rare as I do. It was more to the medium side +. Creamed spinach was good. Sautéed mushrooms average. French fries well there French fries. We shared some baked clams that were good. Service was ok, they were working hard and it seemed overwhelmed at points. Ambiance was what I felt it should be for a midtown steakhouse. Would I go back.... Not 100% sure. The waiters were also fast, efficient, gave us great drink recommendations, and all worked very well to bring our food. They even cut up our steak, and plated on our sides. this was absolutely divine. despite the torrential rain as i was walking drenching myself with rain. i asked for a towel or even a tablecloth to dry fof and the waiter provided it graciously. then the starter of raw littleneck clams were served ice cold, horseradish and spicy sauce. amazing. the beefsteak tomatoe and onions were amazing nd the waiter suggested the BBQ sauce which worked amazingly. the best part was the ribeye, served with a simple dry rub and cooked perfectly! served with side of onion rings, German potatoes and spinach were absolutely divine this dinner was accompanied by the best onion rolls filled with onions which brought me to my childhood. and they gave me 4 to take home, no charge. what restaurant anywhere does that the server Sarko is the man! request him and his colleagues are so generous and kind this was and will remain my choice for NY steakhouses. absolutely one of the finest steaks houses in my life and so happy to learn about this place Kudos! read more

My first time to try this new location at Midtown near Hearld Square and Times Square. Of course, our order was Porterhouse for Three(medium rare), creamed spinach and sautéed mushroom. Impressive chef, cooked the meat just the way we like 'em. We were treated VIP because we were the only customer mid afternoon. The place look very neat, Staff are friendly especially our server Harris and his team with his superb customer service. The Manager keeps checking on us and making sure we are doing great. What can I say, this location of Wolfgang Steakhouse have an excellent customer service for us. The only reason why I gave 4 stars is not because of food or staff. On our way to bathroom, that hallway stinks, awful, just like the smell of the subway station, it smells pee. The bathroom inside is clean but it has the same smell from the hallway. Wow just wow! I actually was planning to visit the Park Ave location because I would pass by and see how they did their outdoor structure but we couldn't get the timeslot we wanted. We decided to go to their Broadway location. We made reservations for 7 but we got there earlier--that wasn't an issue and we were promptly seated. Food My foodie friend and I decided to get salads to start, my friend got the Wolfgang Salad (similar to a wedge salad with chunks of Canadian bacon, tomato, shrimp and onion) and I got the Caesar Salad. Both were good but we didn't finish because we wanted to make sure we had room for the main course. Speaking of main course--we got sirloin steaks (my friend got medium well and I got medium), lobster mac and cheese, creamed spinach and asparagus. Our steaks came out sizzling and I noticed that one of the servers brought out two small plates prior to bringing out the steaks and turned them upside down. I was wondering why but it became apparent when they brought out the steaks--it made the steak plates tilt slightly. The portion sizes were huge--I wasn't expected that. We decided to tackle the steaks and we could take the rest home to go. the steak was perfection, cooked just right and cut like butter. The lobster mac and cheese was delish--was super rich; the asparagus was huge, I don't think I had asparagus that huge before. Basically, everything on our table was drool worthy. We washed this delicious meal with prosecco. Service It's one thing to have a great meal, it's another to have a great meal accompanied with impeccable service. From the time we walked in to the time we left, the service was top-notch. Our server, Yulli was extremely personable and so was the manager, who checked in on us. He even came over when he saw how much food we had and jokingly said "wow, can I pull up a chair and join you all?" A lot of people say that they wish they could give 10 stars, I've never said that about any place I've reviewed but I'm saying it here--if it was possible to give 10 stars, I would. I had the thick-cut bacon, tomahawk steak, the onion rings, steak fries and creamed spinach. All were great. Tomahawk steak was fantastic - very flavorful although a good amount of fat and gristle at the end of the bone. This thing was absolutely enormous (see picture) and fed two of us. Service was fantastic throughout the night with one slight exception- one of the waiters unknowingly spilled hot soup on someone in our party during the night while walking past. None of the waiters seemed to notice during the bustle of service but it wasn't a huge deal (not a lot of soup). The ambiance was more of a modern brasserie, with darker mood lighting and modern furniture. The bustling restaurant can get a bit noisy at peak times. Having just been to Peter Luger a couple weeks ago, I would say you can't go wrong with both. Peter Luger's thick cut bacon was better than the one at Wolfgang's but the steaks are fairly comparable in that both were fantastic. Peter Luger's restaurant atmosphere feels more old-school and intimate while this Wolfgang's feels more corporate and modern. read more

The place is spacious and has great decor, their whine cellar is a huge and has such a great selection of whines to choose from. I went here for my wife birthday dinner celebration, made reservations just hours before the same day and submitted a reservation online with special requests about it being her birthday. Request got accepted almost immediately, which is awesome! We went in 5 min earlier then our reservation and got seated right away. We had sea food platter for 2 and the porter house steak for 2! Sides were macaroni with lobster and German potatoes; food and service was outstanding! I'd highly recommend this steak house. read more

Absolutely delicious steak, and very fairly priced. We are steak aficionados, and I was skeptical based on some reviews. Our filets were perfectly prepared, which was an incredible feat based on how thick they were. The wedge salad left a lot to be desired (skip it, seriously), but the exceptional service made up for it. The serving staff was very personable, kind, and gracious to my 10 year old daughter, making her a special drink. A job well done, and we will fit this into our rotation when we visit the city. read more

Really great place for affordable quality food. My mom and I went here prior to a 7pm show but needed to be at the theatre to meet someone at 6pm. So we just got all seafood--lobster bisque, which was not the best lobster bisque I've had, but it was very good. It did not have a cream base like they usually do, and had some interesting spices and herbs. The seafood appetizer sampler had very fresh lobster tail, jumbo shrimp and crab. The bread was also so good! We expected it to cost more than $80 for the two of us. You can pay more for far less in Manhattan. I read others noted how crowded it is. I'd recommend going either early like 5pm or after a show. I do love steak and will need to go back read more
