    Lomo Saltado a lo pobre
    nicholas b.

I had the lomo saltado a lo pobre at Bocata Kitchen and it absolutely hit the spot. Under the egg was rice, and everything came together perfectly. The flavor was very good, the steak and fries were nice and juicy, and the egg and rice blended so well together. I ate every last bit of it. The passion fruit drink was also delicious -- sweet, refreshing, and very hydrating. On top of that, the chicken soup was the icing on the cake. It flushed everything down perfectly and made the meal even better. The neighborhood isn't the best, but it's close to home, which was a huge plus. I didn't have to drive out of my way for some lomo saltado, and I had been craving it all day, so this really satisfied that craving. The cashier was such a wonderful lady. She let me taste two different drinks and was incredibly kind. I'm a Black man, and she spoke to me in Spanish and encouraged me to learn. Growing up with Spanish friends and having a Spanish girlfriend helped, so I was able to hold a conversation, and she seemed genuinely impressed. Her service was amazing and made the experience even better. Great food, great service, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to. Highly recommend. I would also like to inform the owner to update the Yelp menu because the item Lomo Saltado a lo pobre I posted wasn't updated on here, just food for thought! Thanks for the great food and great service!

If you have not been to this amazing place, you are missing out! The food, the service all amazing! We drove over 3 hours to get here and it was well worth the drive! If you want truly authentic Peruvian cuisine, look no further! Can't wait to come back and try more deliciousness!

I came for the pollo a la brasa, and i was disappointed chicken was super dry sauces didnt help at all. So sad i cant find a good peruvian rotisserie chicken. The tallarin verde was good. The maracuya was delicious! The service was great we had a nice waitress. The place is nice but small and parking was limited. Will try and come back next time and try the Seafood platter.

    Very good food

The food is very good would come again The drinks are very good the staff is very helpful The restaurant feels very much like home

Saw an instagram post about this restaurant and was excited to try it. We get there around 3 on a Sunday, saw many people in tables with no food so I thought they were probably done eating and just chatting. Well, I was wrong!! We waited 30mins to get our drinks, soon we realized the people in the tables had been waiting to be served their food. So we decided to wait another 30mins for our food since it was super hyped on social media. The cebiche is by far the worst we've tried ever!! The aguadito is s soup and you would think it would be hot but no not hot/lukewarm, it was cold!! The lomo a la pobre was okay but I didn't enjoy it since the service was terrible and the wait for subpar food made it worst.

$3.20 for using card. BRING CASH

The unassuming charm of this Peruvian gem left an indelible mark on my culinary senses. Nestled inconspicuously, it may not flaunt the sophistication of places like Cabra, known for its enticing Lomo Saltado, but it far surpasses expectations in flavor and authenticity. Every dish bursts with meticulously crafted flavors, demonstrating an unparalleled dedication to culinary classics that your taste buds will undeniably appreciate. The service, though warm, could benefit from more efficiency, and the restroom needs a functional lock. These minor issues, however, don't overshadow the remarkable dining experience. I'm already planning my next visit later this month. Truly, I'm hooked. Bring cash. They charge $3.20 for swiping a card. Also parking is limited.

I mind of don't want to share this one. It's a little hidden gem a cute little restaurant. The BEST peruvian food I have ever eaten! I can't wait to go back. We had the ceviche with calamari and pollo saltado. Both even though I was full I couldn't stop eating! The service was really slow and annoying but the food was so good I don't even care about the service

    1. Is the rice cooked in chicken broth or beef broth or plain water? 2. Is lard or crisco used in the beans?…

I'm not sure if the rice is cooked in chicken broth for the most part it is steamed rice.

The Peruvian food is still as good now as it was then. I ordered the Aquadito de Pollo which is a chicken soup with a distinct herbal flavor. There is plenty of tender chicken in the soup. It was a good start to my main which was Saltado de Pollo, my favorite. The dish was nicely prepared with a good ratio mix of chicken, onions, tomatoes, and French fries. It was not too salty at all. Rosty seems to make an exemplary Saltado de Pollo. The Chicha Morada was refreshing with the meal. I would return to Rosty if I am in the area again. Dining areas are comfortable with staff being friendly and efficient. The neighborhood looked gentrified with many other businesses in close proximity to explore. I ordered the quarter chicken with rice and salad, and I was really impressed with the portion sizes. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and gave me the kind of authentic Latin food vibes that I love. The sauce was definitely the highlight for me--it was so good that I found myself adding it to every bite. The prices are also fantastic. For the quality and quantity of food you get, this place is truly a gem. That said, there were a couple of downsides. The restaurant itself is very small, with limited seating available. The customer service also wasn't the best during my visit. Since the dining area was completely full when we arrived, we decided to place our order to go. While we were waiting for our food, a table opened up, so we asked if we could sit down and eat there instead. We were told that because we had ordered our food to go, we were not allowed to sit in the restaurant. I found that a bit disappointing, especially since we had already paid for the same food as everyone else dining in. Overall, the food was excellent and definitely the reason I would come back. If I'm in the area and craving their chicken, I'd absolutely return--just with different expectations regarding the seating situation and service.

A must-go restaurant. Read on for deep dive stuff or if you love a good novel... Vibe - is casual, but in a sexy and a solid-date-spot way. The atmosphere is fun and colorful in unexpected ways, and every team member we interacted with was really, really nice and seemed genuinely dedicated and excited to be there. Food & Founder - The chef/founder is **world-famous** and the taste, quality, and depth/breadth of the menu reflects this. Don't even get me started on the flavors. I heard that he named it "the hummingbird" because when he was growing up in Peru, he would be like a hummingbird, going from experience to experience, picking up knowledge and expertise. I love that. New to Peru - A couple members of our group had never had Peruvian food (including myself!) but we were guided in what to order and all were INCREDIBLE. We were like, jumping in head-first, trying dishes that rewarded us with outstanding flavors and SUPER fresh ingredients. Peruvian Pros & Overall - I've seen a lot of reviews and social media from dedicated Peruvian food enthusiasts, experts etc. who all highly recommend The Hummingbird. So we know they love it/approve. And from a newbie to Peruvian food perspective, I too would recommend 100%. Just so impressed and excited that I can't wait to go back. If you made it this far, good for you! And in summary, The Hummingbird is a total gem.

The word of the day is FUNKY…read more 1. Food. It's at best a 4 star. My favorites were the grilled salmon and lomo saltado although both portions fit into the palm of my hand (Well, everything we ordered did so beware - who needs Ozempic when you can go here for dinner?). Ordered a few ceviches (king salmon, yellowtail, scallop) and was not impressed. It was fresh but exceptionally fresh. Flavors were okay, I expected to be more impressed by the fusion but it just felt performative. The quality of the fish does not match the prices they charge. The teas were great but they were also $14 each for like a grande cup portion from Starbucks. Also everything is non alcoholic except some random THC drink and like a beer? Funky. 2. Service. FUNKY AF. I made a reservation for a birthday for a party of 7 (you have to DM them on IG for parties 7+ btw) earlier in the day. They DMd me back saying no problem and changed my reservation to a party of 7 (it was previously at 6, the max). My party gets there at the reserved time. Upon entering, there was no greeting, no welcome. I felt like I entered some secret society where everyone's in on a secret except you. The server (tall male) eventually comes up to us and the first thing he says is that our reservation was changed to 5pm without notice and seemed to be blaming us for the mix up. The Opentable app doesn't even allow me to edit my reservation since edits for parties 6+ are not allowed. It must have been a worker here messing with the reservations and we got caught in the crossfire and they ended up blaming us. The cherry on top was that they never did anything for the birthday person nor even acknowledged his birthday. DO NOT come here for a celebration because your vibes will 100% be killed by the end of the night. The servers here give "I put an ad out on Craigslist and hired whoever showed up". Not sure any of them know what they're doing. We were seated for 15 min with no water. I had to flag them down since they were busy chatting and hanging out. The server with short blonde hair in a ponytail passive aggressively brings us water and then zero cups. Who brings jugs of water with no cups? Then we had to chase them down again to get cups. "Chase" them down since the restaurant is the size of a garage so clearly it was intentional they were not checking in. Everyone had sour attitudes the whole night as if they are not willingly employed here. 3. Ambiance. FUNKY!!! Do NOT be fooled by the videos guys. This place is like a run down, local dive bar trying to serve Michelin food. You can just FEEL the inauthenticity and performativeness of the place. This place is musty. It's on the corner with trash everywhere and a bus stop outside, and no parking so there's your first red flag. There's no central AC so prepare to suffer. They play loud and constantly genre-changing music that makes no sense. I tried to DM them on IG to get them to explain the reservation mix up and avoid writing this review and I'm currently on delivered for 12 hours - although they're quick to respond to a reservation request! I wish I could rewind time and tell my past self to avoid this place at all costs. HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND and will never be returning. Holbox in DTLA puts this place to shame. Please go there instead of you're looking for fresh ceviche. The prices they charge actually match the quality of food and service. There are way too many better restaurants in LA for a place like this to continue to be in business. Good luck!
