This was my second time trying Mario's - first time we picked it up and this time I dined in. The food is absolutely delicious and so flavorful. They do not mess around with their portion sizes! I got the lomo saltado and that could literally be split between three people. The meat was juicy and tender and the fries and onions and tomatoes were cooked very well. The rice was also well prepared. Even though I don't really drink soda, I had to get the traditional Peruvian Inca soda which pairs so nicely with the food. They also start you off with the fresh yummy bread and butter. The staff is very sweet and the service is really good. The prices are extremely reasonable, especially considering the portion sizes. They have a parking lot that is shared with the other business in the strip mall. The place is popular and will get busy on Fridays and weekends especially. But worth the wait. read more

TL;DR: Steak Lomo Saltado is excellent. Beef fried rice was so flavorful. Food is great, worth the wait. We have been here before but I never left a review. This place deserves a great review. We got here in a Sunday night at 7pm and they close at 8pm. Quite a few people ahead of us and all the tables were full and it seemed like many of them were still getting their food. Plan ahead to go well before they close. Of course we went with our favorite: Steak Lomo Saltado. Always sooooo good. Some reviewers did say that the steak pieces are tough and dry and I can see that. But we have never had that problem. The french fries, onions and steak all pan fried together was soft and juicy. With the side of rice it's a large plate of food. Excellent! We decided to try the Beef Fried Rice this time. Kind of an Asian style pan fried rice with the same steak pieces. Some green onion and eggs and the fact that it was moist and mixed with a juice made it surprisingly good. So surprised that this dish was so good. The reason why I said go well before they close is because when we and another three person group for seated, the waitress said that they don't have anymore steak. So anything but steak and shrimp dishes are available. All of us were so disappointed. The waitress said she will check one time and asked what we were going to order. Between the two tables, we're going to order two Steak Lomo Saltado and one beef fried rice. She came back and said they have just enough steak for those three dishes. Tragedy averted, dinner turned out great but if you are going and intend to or a steak dish, make sure you go well before they close. But overall this is still our favorite Peruvian spot. read more

Don't expect fancy amenities; When going to Marios, you are truly only going for the food. This place has been on my to go list for awhile & glad I finally got the opportunity to try it out! WAIT/PARKING: Because it's such a popular spot, be prepared to wait... for a bit. I waited an hour just for single seating on a Saturday night. They get PACKED. It's a tiny plaza & a small restaurant. The parking lot is tough because it's small & limited spots shared with the other businesses in the same plaza. I'd recommend street parking & walking a little in the residential neighborhood. Like anywhere in LA be wary of all the parking signs to avoid a ticket. SERVICE: Great staff, it always amazes me how they can juggle so many tables & orders!! The lady that took my order was quick & efficient. Was about 10-15 min wait in between ordering & getting my food, which isn't bad on a Saturday night when the place is packed to the brim with large parties. The waitresses were friendly & accommodating! FOOD: Ordered the ceviche de pescado & lomo saltado ! Great size portions, I came starving but ended up with leftovers for the next day. Ceviche was nice & tart, & love how they stacked up on the red onions. I thought it was interesting that they added celery(?) - it was my first time having Peruvian ceviche with a decent amount of celery in it. I usually go for the Lomo Saltado because it's so delicious but i think from now on i'll be going for the chicken saltado. This is our first time trying Mario's. My fiancée and I have heard how good it is. So we put it to the test. We went during lunch hours. Surprisingly, it wasn't crazy busy. But the parking situation was bad. We had to look for parking on the street since their parking area was very small and shared with other establishments. But besides that, they let us choose our seats. Service was quick. They brought out the menus, then drinks. They started you off with some bread. Might I add their bread is sooo soft and delicious? Most places their bread is hard. If you go to any Peruvian spot, you know you have to go with their Lomo Saltado. The Lomo Saltado; Where do I start? Easily the best Lomo Saltado I have ever had. The plate was full of flavor. The meat was tender and juicy. The fries, onions, and tomatoes were soaked in the juices. Delicious!!! FLAVOR!! The rice was just plain white rice, not a bad thing because you're getting plenty of flavor with the meat. It just levels everything perfectly. I practically left my plate empty, which I never do, and still ate some of my fiancée's food, since she was already full. Big back activities. They don't hold back on their portions. We could have easily shared one plate for the both of us. If you like your food with a nice spicy kick, I highly recommend their green sauce. It gave the food an extra kick of flavor. It's quite spicy, so don't go crazy. My fiancée told me to give it a try, and I'm so glad I gave it a go. The ambience was quite nice. It seemed like a lot of office people come here. My husband heard of this restaurant after reading an article about ordering the specialty dish at LA restaurants. We came in on a Wednesday evening, and they have very limited parking in the lot so we found street parking by the school. We got the last available table, great timing! This place was happening with several to go orders getting picked up. It had a neighborhood feel and our server was friendly and helpful. We asked what was popular and she rattled off the 2 most popular numbers! My daughter and I ordered lomo saltado to share and my husband ordered the same dish but with shrimp. It was delicious! The steak with the veggies over fried was just so good and the flavors worked well together. And we all tried the spicy aji verde sauce, and loved it! It just elevated the dish even more. I've been frequenting Mario's for 15+ years and it always hits the spot. Starting with their spicy Aji sauce over the bread(wish they had butter but honestly the green sauce totally stands alone. I went with the steak Lomo Saltado with fried egg(extra). The dish is has a unique and amazing blend of Asian and Latin flavors: filled with umami, sweet, spicy, and the perfect balance of acidity and sweetness from the tomatoes. The beef was nicely done with a great sear on the outside but still not over done and left amazingly tender. Fries had a nice crisp on the exterior and fluffy on the Interior. I asked for an over medium egg cuz who doesn't want more yolky umami? Bonus, the serving size is huge! come and share or order your own for leftovers the next day(tip: the flavor stays the same but texturally not the same) All in all an amazing meal at Mario's come get you some Peruvian food here asap! I've been meaning to review this place. I've been coming here for 10 years, and it definitely needs improvement. The quality has gone down, and consistency has fallen off, while prices have gone up. Don't get me wrong, some days you'll get a good plate, but when you're spending $26 on one plate, you expect a bit more. Not to mention that some of these people just don't know customer service, them being family of the owners doesn't give them a right to be rude. I've been looking for a good Peruvian place since I moved back from NYC and finally found it. This place is a hole in the wall OG style with huge portions. Service is great - I really recommend Nati (short brown hair Spanish woman). Super positive energy and nice. All I got was Lomo Saltado. One for me and one for my gf who's never had Peruvian. Next time I'm getting the calamari as well but let me tell you - that serving is MASSIVE. Lomo was very very good, also a large portion so I had left overs. I'll be back soon - highly recommend!!!! I've been coming here for on and off of nearly 10 years and always waited in the long lines. I am only leaving 3 stars because I came early about 30 mins before they opened so I can park in the very front. I went for a walk to kill some time. When I came back, I saw the door already opened and a guy moping the floor. I didn't step on the floor yet but I asked the employee (looked like a manager with glasses) nearby if I could use the restroom before I wait. She just kept saying "can't you see, can't you see the floor is wet.". I asked if I could use the restroom after the floor dries and I am waiting for them to open so I can eat. She just said no and closed the door on me and called me Papa. Luckily the Church across the street, was nice enough to let me to use their restroom. The food was still great and the service in general is good, but the way they treated me to use the restroom, like I was a bum off the street really bothers me. Finding good Peruvian food in LA can be tough, but Mario's is a solid choice. I walked in about an hour before closing, and the servers were welcoming and happy to seat me. The menu offers a wide selection, mostly seafood-focused. I went with the Lomo Saltado, mixed ceviche, and Chupe de Camarón. The Chupe de Camarón was an excellent choice for the cold weather--rich, comforting, and packed with great seafood flavor. Hearty portions makes this soup great for sharing. The mixed ceviche also came in a generous portion, but something tasted a little off. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it lacked the freshness I typically expect from ceviche. It still tasted good, and I finished it, but I had some reservations. The Lomo Saltado was the standout dish of the night. The beef was tender, with that perfect Peruvian-Chinese fusion flavor you hope for when ordering this dish. It came with plenty of purple onions that complemented the beef well, along with a side of white rice. They also have a green sauce on the table (not sure of the name), but it added an extra kick that made the Lomo Saltado even better. I'll definitely be coming back for more. read more

This was my second visit, and unfortunately, it confirmed that I won't be coming back. We ordered Lomo Saltado (x2). First of all, the steak was extremely tough--well beyond chewable. I'm not sure if it was a quality issue or just poorly prepared, but it was rock hard and genuinely painful to eat. The fries were soggy, the vegetables seemed thrown on purely for looks, and they had no real flavor at all. Nothing on the plate felt balanced or thoughtfully prepared. Maybe this dish is what they're known for, but at around $20 per plate, the quality just isn't there. It's not worth hurting your jaw over a meal at that price point. This place use to be good a while back. My last experience was disappointing. I ordered arroz chaufa de marisco (seafood fried rice) the night before (they closed) and it was spoiled. I called them that morning and explained what happened. They said there was nothing they could do. I even spoke to the manager. They didn't even offer a discount. Very disappointed, I used to come here as a kid and my parents said i loved it but now...The Ceviche de pescado was horrible it only tasted like celery and super sour, presentacion was sad nothing looked right it was missing camote and cancha and who serves it with celery. It looked like aguachiles a mexican dish not ceviche peruano. That was the only plate that took the longest to get served and it was just bad. They didnt have any maracuya or chicha morada because the only person that new the recipe is old and gone per our waitress and no one there can make it, so they just opted by replacing that with horchata, jamaica and tamarindo...really? There is nothing peruvian about that unless they make the restaurant half mexican. Place was small and limited to tables of 4 only, bigger problem is parking but definitely will not be coming back. This place has my heart!! I first came here in July or August with friends and family.... Oh boy!! I am not a big meat eater but the Lomo Saltado! It is juicy, savory, hot, flavorful what a delightful dish! Accompanied by rice, delicious rice! The sauce they have on the table WOW!! They bring you freshly made bread and water.
