I've been dining here and loving it for years, but last night's service, and the horrible attitude of management and the owner, have made me do something I have never done- write a negative review. I'll spare the reader the details except to say that one issue was that after an extremely long wait everyone was served and completed their dinners except the 5 year old who waited well over an hour after ordering until we were all done eating to finally get his children's menu Mac and cheese. Food was good went for happy hour. They wouldn't allow me to take home my leftovers. Was happy to serve me a glass of wine but when I asked for water they said they had to serve me a closed container. We were seated promptly,but left for far too long ( over 5 minutes, only one other party in the room) before our waitress came to ask for drinks, etc. When she came, she said we'd have 2! I feel bad for the waitress and waiter service as they are trying their best but the food is not good. Looking at their prices we figured we were going to get high quality food. Bland and boring. My wife, my sister-in-law, our four kids and I visited Bocca today for a late lunch/early dinner. The hostess greeted us and seated us in the pizzeria section. I just assumed that the dining room was busy or couldn't accommodate 7. We were seated at a table for 6 and put a chair at the end for my son. No biggie. After a bit my son had to go to the bathroom so i walked him and we had to go through the dining room and I noticed that there were plenty of tables we could have been sat at. The same size as the table we had but high top type tables. Oh well, too late to move by this point. Our waitress, who was nice took our order and brought our drinks. We ordered 2 pizzas, one traditional with pepperoni and one Coal Fired Chicken Florentine Pie. We also ordered a French Onion Soup, an order of Calamari, the Cheese Ravioli and the Short Rib Ravioli. The French Onion Soup arrived and it looked good with some crunchy onion straws on top. What a disappointment. The menu states that it is "slow roasted onions simmered in a rich herb infused broth: but nothing could be farther from the truth. There was no flavor in this offering and the broth certainly can't be described as rich." Absolutely bland, thin and lifeless with zero of the deep onion flavor of a true onion soup. Next up was the Calamari. Again, boring! It was really hard to tell if I was eating calamari or just the crisp coating. The coating was crisp and lightly fried but there weren't any nice plump rings or large tentacles to speak of. Overall it was flavorless and a disappointment. The traditional pizza was fair but the crust lacks salt. Easy to remedy which is something that I find very troubling. The Coal Fired Chicken Florentine Pie looked promising but it was anything but. It is described as, "diced grilled chicken, spinach, ricotta, fire roasted red peppers, and fresh mozzarella." Sounds great right. Simple ingredients that should play off of one another nicely while each providing their own punch as you bite into different pieces of your slice. If there is pesto in there I can't locate it and I certainly can't taste it. Spinach-bland. Ricotta-bland. Crust-Bland. The Cheese Ravioli were adequate. Nothing special to see here. The sauce was basic but had decent tomato flavor. The lone bright spot, but not overtly so, was the Short Rib Ravioli. It was served with sun dried tomatoes which added a brightness to the mushroom filled sauce. The pasta was adequate and the short rib filling was fairly flavorful but it really stood out in this sea of bland dishes. I was not impressed with Bocca although the decor is comfortable and the bar looked like a nice spot to sit and have a drink. The kitchen really needs more skill and a lengthy lesson on building flavors. The menu descriptions reflect some good ideas but there isn't enough skill or a capable enough palate in the kitchen to pull them off. This is bland food for bland people. Ate here a few weeks ago on a Friday night. We were seated near the bar area, which probably contributed to the fairly high noise level. Once the band started, though, we couldn't even hold a conversation. We don't get it---the band was excellent, but as is often the case, just too loud in a fairly small space. Great if you're there to drink and listen to the band, but otherwise not appropriate for eating and talking. As for the food, it was mediocre. My grouper did not taste fresh, although the server assured me it was. Service was fine, friendly. May try again with a better table and before the band starts. read more

2 of us came in for late lunch around 3pm on a Friday. Server was young and inexperienced, though well meaning and sweet. We received no napkins or silverware, and no offers of water. We had lunch there yesterday and it was pretty good! my colleague had the Gorgonzola Chicken salad with apple cider dressing which she enjoyed. I had the Ahi Tuna salad (or you could order the Salmon instead) with portioned balsamic dressing and I was impressed at the huge portion of the tuna! it was very tasty as well. I ordered a soda, but changed my mind and asked for it to be taken away to be exchanged for a light beer no hassle from waitress when I did this) and I tell you what that beer was COLD like none I had in a while. The waitress was nice and accommodating and although we did not sit a the bar; the bartender was polite to make eye contact and be pleasant. The specials were reasonably priced, but we opted for the full menu which I found reasonably priced as well. The ambiance of the whole place was very cozy and warm which I think we all here can agree on. As a local (Ventnorian); I am glad to see this restaurant in Margate, I wish them luck! The calamari came and included friend banana peppers (more than calamari) and some french fries thrown in (I think by accident) and a thai dipping sauce. Delicious! And super kid friendly! Loved the pizza dough they wrapped the crayons in when seating us. Kept my kids busy until the food came out! Staff was very kind, patient and helpful. I ordered a spicy Calamari linguini that was delicious, the pasta perfectly al dente. The kids pizza was big enough for both of my boys to share (3 & 5 yrs old). Don't go to Bocca if you want a good dinner and conversation with your companion. The place is loud, the seating uncomfortable, and the food is average to mediocre. I ordered the broiled flounder which came with garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The flounder was tasteless, as was the broccoli. The flounder was also of poor quality and a very small portion. The garlic mashed potatoes were thick and starchy, although the portion was large. My husband ordered chicken parm. The piece of chicken was very thin and had provolone melted on it instead of the traditional mozzarella. He felt it had an "odd" taste! The people at the bar eating bar food and drinking beer and wine seemed to be loudly enjoying themselves. I guess if you want beer and pizza it might be a good choice! read more

This restaurant has shared waitresses so each table has about 4 waitresses. You would think you get good service but NO. One item we ordered never came, nobody checked in after we received our food. We were missing a fork and were out of water. Also the appetizer plates were never cleaned, they just brought out entrees out but didn't care to take the old plates away. Terrible service, food was decent. Will never come back again and would advise others against it. And to make matter worse we talked to the manager when leaving and he could care less about it.
