The service was absolutely TERRIBLE. We waited about 15 minutes for our server to greet us after being seated... Initially I thought this was because they were crazy busy (it was a Saturday night in December), but then I watched him quickly greet the new people being seated at the tables near us... That didn't sit well with me. While ordering, he tried pushing an appetizer on us and when we said no, he rolled his eyes, grabbed the menus and quickly walked away. He later tried to push a second glass of wine on my husband and when he declined, our server rolled his eyes and was visibly annoyed. It was so RUDE. We came here to celebrate my birthday (and noted that on our reservation), however the server made NO acknowledgement of this... I don't need anything for free, but the least you can do is say "happy birthday" and try to give me a pleasant experience. Instead, we were met with a rude attitude and SLOW service. Visited on a Wednesday night and the place was fairly crowded, clearly a popular spot mid-week. Even though it was crowded, they make a great first impression with a complimentary spread of bread, parmesan, salami, and olive oil. I started with a cocktail with basil, gin, and lemon which was refreshing and nicely balanced. For my main, I ordered the rigatoni alla vodka. The dish was solid overall, creamy, comforting, and cooked well but I found myself wishing the sauce had a bit more punch, either in flavor depth or a with a little heat. Because the restaurant was so busy, it took a while to get the check, but the staff remained friendly throughout, and the atmosphere was lively without being overwhelming. We had a lovely evening - my first time at this restaurant but it's a fave of my friend. We had a reservation which was totally needed because of theater crowds. We were seated right away towards the back of the restaurant which was great because it was quieter. Overall vibe and ambiance of this place is very comfortable and warm. Service was pretty good given the crowds. We had several different servers throughout the evening. Once we placed our orders things moved quite well. The food was the highlight. Calamari was tender and delicious. For entrees both the salmon and the stuffed chicken were amazing (I substituted Broccoli rabe for the roasted potatoes and it was perfect). My friend and I made a last minute decision to dine here by looking at the menu outside. It looked nice from the outside looking in as well. Once you go inside they ask if you have reservations, but seems like you don't need one for a Monday night. We had the option of picking where we would like to sit. I must say the service was great! They kept refilling the water glass and came by often to check up on us. Although, they recommended a few dishes, we chose the special meat dish. It's called the Grigliata Mistadi Carne - a selection of grilled meats such as the veal loin, lamb chops, and chicken breast along with mashed potatoes and baby brocolini. All were great and it had a mix of protein, fiber, and vegetables. What more can you ask for? For appetizer, we got the pear salad and Panna cotta for dessert. We were recently in NYC and we had dinner at Bocca di Bacco in Manhattan. This is a wonderful eatery that serves fantastic food. My Wife ordered the Rigatoni and she enjoyed it so much I only got a small taste. I have been craving carbonara for quite some time and when I saw it on the menu my decision was easy. I make it at home and I'm very particular about how I like it. This was an incredible rendition of the classic dish. I almost licked the plate because I enjoyed it so much. I asked to speak with the manager to let them know what a great experience we had and they were delighted to hear it. I will definitely be back here on my next visit to the big scary city... Long-time Bocca regulars at this location. One of our tried-and-true spots in the 'hood. BDB is still the best lunch in town; not only because it's an amazing pre-fixe lunch (both in substance and price), but it's a great ambiance and setting whether you're having a romantic date lunch, dining with friends or holding a business lunch. But, it's also among our favorite local spots for dinner too. Food is great. Beautiful spacious dining room. Service is mostly good. Sometimes it lacks, but usually it's good. I was a little irked the other day when I chose not to have a bottle of sparking water (which is included as part of the pre-fixe) but was charged $4.50 for a small glass of club soda. That literally made no sense and lacked any rational logic. However I didn't make an issue as I was treating a friend to lunch and didn't want to impact his enjoyment. My mom and I had a great pre-theater dining experience here! We got there at 5:30. It was pretty empty but quickly filled up as the night went on! I had the limoncello spritz to drink. It was a great spring cocktail with lots of lemon flavor! To start, we shared the meat and cheese board. It was fabulous! The presentation was beautiful and the three cheeses paired great with the salami and prosciutto. The cheese also goes great with their complimentary bread and I love that the board comes with honey. Salty/sweet is the way to my heart! Only negative was that our appetizer took a while to come out and then our entrees came out not long after. The pacing could have been better. For my entree I had the cacio e Pepe. It was very good, but I've definitely had better in New York. It was a very large portion for the price, which was a plus! Overall, I loved the rustic, yet elevated vibe in here and would definitely come back. What a fabulous place to enjoy a special evening. The venue is immaculate. The staff ( ALL of them) were fantastic and kept it up throughout even after we stayed past closing. Pleasantly surprised by how good the food is here! Went for restaurant week dinner and was impressed with all three courses especially the gamberoni (skewered shrimp with Lima beans). A couple of slightly annoying aspects of the experience was that the portions were very small so I'm not sure we really saved much money versus ordering the regular menu and splitting. The tiramisu was tiny, like they took one portion and cut it in four. Though the menu had only two dessert choices, the waitress told us the cheesecake had "sold out", and no they would not be substituting another option. Understandable if it had been late at night, but we put our orders in at 6pm! Accessibility: there is a large step to enter the restaurant. We sat outside so I didn't inquire about a portable ramp or check out the bathroom. The outdoor dining patio has a small step up. Overall it was good but the beets could have chopped into smaller pieces. The rigatoni a la vodka was one of the best I've had. The tiramisu was did not disappoint. The reason I'm giving it 4 stars is I walked into the restaurant because I saw sangria was on the menu and when I asked for a glass, I was told they did not have sangria. I also like the fact that they have a wide variety of starters. I paid the $2 supplement for crab cakes. It comes with a warm mushroom salad but I asked it be left off my plate. Next up chicken parmigiana with spaghetti. Absolutely fantastic. Final course was tiramisu. I don't typically eat dessert so I took it to the doorman in my building who raved about it. The 3 stars were primarily because of service. It's like pulling teeth to get our orders taken, our plates picked up, and the next dish to be served. Between when we were seated and when we left, it took 2 hours. I had to go to the bar to pay because asking for the bill didn't seem to work. I made a reservation weeks in advanced based on the menu and fairly good reviews. We arrive on time to find it packed to the brim and loud as could be. The maître d was short and not very welcoming. We were sat at a crammed table with the cushion on the bench seat so low that I wished I had a phone book to sit on. Our wait was terrible. My friend is elderly and he was visibly annoyed when she took more than 30 seconds to order. We never received bread. The food arrived quickly and it took more than five minutes (not exaggerating) for someone to bring by cheese for our pasta. I reminded the waiter of my friend's cocktail. He said he was sorry but he wasn't the one making it. The table next to us who arrived after us received their drinks. Halfway through our meal the lights dimmed to the point of struggling to see our food. I flagged down the maître d and asked if he could raise them slightly. He said he'd take care of it. Nothing changed. I flagged down the waiter again and reminded him about my friend's drink. She said if it wasn't at the table in under 1 minute she no longer wanted it. It appeared in 30 seconds -- more than 20 minutes after we ordered. We asked for the check and my friend went to pay by credit card. The waiter had a handheld machine and stood over us as she asked me what to tip. Again, he was annoyed by her less-than-speedy response. If it had been me I would have asked that the drink be removed from the check and I would have left a smaller tip. The food was good but not excellent. The pasta wasn't hot enough and was cooked more like American pasta than al dente. I would never return nor would I recommend the restaurant to anyone. They brought out a complementary appetizer that included olives, salami, cheese and two types of bread. We ordered the Branzino and the lasagna, and both were so good. The Branzino was spectacular! It came with vegetables that included artichoke, zucchini, and squash, and to say it was cooked to perfection is an understatement. The lasagna was very authentic, delicious!
