I think Bocca sets the standard for service for in the area. Their staff right from the hostess to the waitress to the food runner was kind and friendly. Offered suggestions and a customization for one in our party who can't have alcohol was able to make adjustments to accommodate. The food, fantastic, from the calamari (not pictured) the steaks to the desserts were cooked perfectly, food came out hot and great portions as well. The restaurant was clean, set up properly. The staff should be proud of themselves!

Another amazing meal. Sorry forgot to take pictures. Steak tips, filet minion and chicken parm. Everything was perfect and staff was very attentive. Place is always immaculate. This has to be the best value in the greater New Bedford area. For just a few fallers more per meal over a chain you get a true first class meal.

Bocca continues to be GREAT! We stopped by for an early dinner, got seated quickly, menus in hand, and ordered some drinks in a minute. We shared a garlicky shrimp appetizer, and I ordered Apple Roasted Salmon, which came with mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus. DELICIOUS!

We are celebrating my mother in law ms 70 birthday, is The Pasta house a good venue ? Not looking for a super fancy but want something a bit special. Thanks!

I think the pasta house would be the perfect place for the occasion that you described. I personally wouldn't think of this venue as my first choice, but I know that a lot of people would disagree with me on this one. I have been back since my…

No issues with being seated or with having our drink order taken or house bread being offered right away. Just to skip more or less to the crux of the issue, it was about the details. Baked Penne with Meatballs Cheese Filled Ravioli Baked Lasagna The lasagna was as advertised and there was no real issue there. Good sized portion and the person who ordered that was very satisfied. The ravioli was presented in what I'll call a sauce rationed format. Small-ish swirl of sauce on the middle of the dish while everything not in the middle (give or take 65% of the portion) was raw dog dry. But mercifully, extra sauce was available, just in an odd format. Enter the penne. The penne itself were overcooked and the cheese on top was well beyond baked. More like a hardened helmet. The meatballs were served on a separate plate, and they came to the table, at best lukewarm but were swimming in a Buzzard's Bay of sauce that was dripping over the side of the plate on to the table. At the end of the day, the service was good and the food was sent out fairly fast. But with that said, one thing was more or less cold while its accompaniment was overcooked and another item was basically dry. If there is a next time, maybe we just skip entrees and go with the takeout pizza. That side of the restaurant had a steady flow of people coming in and out and seemed to be where the action was at. Note to file for the future.

I had my eye on the garlic prime rib special, which I enjoyed with mashed taters and pickled beets. My starter was the thick clam chowder along with rolls and dipping oil. My friend had the eggplant parm, which she gave high marks to. I had a 40 minute drive home or I'd have ordered the blueberry martini or any number of signature cocktails that struck my fancy. Next time! This is a place frequented by numerous locals and the bartender seemed to know everyone by name! The menu is extensive from bar pizza to seafood to hearty sandwiches. I'll definitely be back again when I'm in the area.

It started to go wrong when the waitress pushed the hot plate into my arm to get it in front of me. I didn't know she was there. I think I was turned looking into my handbag. Instead of saying excuse me, she just pushed it into my arm. Are you serious?? She was holding the plate with a towel. No smile. No you're welcome when told thank you. I was a waitress. I understand the job. She does not. The final blow was when someone in my party started choking. I jumped up and said help. No one came over. My waitress did not come over. She saw. A young bus girl was the only person possessing a brain and empathy. The person who had been choking ran to the men's room. No one from the restaurant approached or asked him if he was ok. Do better. Your establishment has a responsibility to be prepared and have a plan for a crisis like I have described. I don't need to spend over $100 to be treated poorly by an angry waitress. I always tip well. Even if the service might not be the best because I've been there and a waitress doesn't always have control over everything. You're lucky you got any kind of a tip from me! I won't be going back to Mike's even with the great food.

The pasta e fagioli soup was delicious and tasted as it should. We savoured it. Our salad tasted garden fresh. I asked for a basic spaghetti with meatballs. Delicious. Their meatballs meet my approval. And that is saying a lot because usually no restaurant meatballs measure up. Except for the meatballs my Grandmother, Mother and I have cooked. This is why I'm tentative about eating Italian out since we grew up making it, ourselves. Everything we tried here falls under the "did not disappoint," category which is an A all around. Even the rustic dining style with sentimental interior home furnishings and decorations. All of it speaks to the heart. They are a warm bunch and will talk to those just passing through. When I'm traveling the Eastern seaboard, I will make it a point to dine at Viola Cucina.

Mostly Smoke and mirrors.... At first glance, their website…read morelooks impressive, their menu looks authentic, and their staff promised 'everything' made fresh and to order. But upon tasting their food, it was clear, 'Viola' is just another Americanized Italian restaurant. We started with an a la carte order of: 'House made focaccia, roasted garlic spread, evoo, craft butter' This was fresh and tasty. We then shared the 'Caesar: traditional romaine hearts, foccaccia croutons, shaved pecorino cheese. classic caesar dressing.' This lacked any flavour, the romaine was cut into too small pieces, there was no hint of garlic or anchovy in the dressing. But the most disappointing dishes were the pasta dishes: 'Fettucini bolognese, house made, beef, pork, veal ragu, pecorino, basil, calabrian Chili.' 'Scampi viola, squid ink linguini, shrimp garlic, white wine, julienned vegetables, preserved lemon butter.' Although the pastas were freshly made, their textures were compromised; both pasta dishes were not 'al dente'. In fact the Scampi viola was drenched in a dark gravy and greasy. This is just not a very skilled preparation of pasta. A fresh pasta needs very little sauce, and should be dressed very simply so the 'textures' can be enjoyed. I ordered the: 'Zuppa di vongole: fresh little neck clams, vino biqnco, fresh herbs, crostini.' But this dish was replaced by a fried calamari dish. This was well prepared, actually the only star of the evening. This restaurant may succeed on its 'blandness' but will never attract the discerning diner who wants and appreciates authentic Italian cuisine. ~tiaotse~
