Cute modern Italian spot with friendly service. There's a free parking lot in back of the restaurant (it fills up quick as it is shared). Ask about Adam's Foccacia, it's worth it. Really enjoyed the short rib tortaloni. The chicken parm dish was also quite tasty and has a bit of a kick.
This spot is more of a pasta place than an Italian restaurant. They make everything fresh and in-house. Fancy but doesn't have all the poshness. They had a tasting menu that was $165 or thereabouts. Though most of the items sounded pleasant when the menu was rattled to us, not everything sounded great enough to commit. So we opted to order from the regular menu. Ordering two appetizers and two entrees were enough to fill the both of us tbh. * Australian wagyu steak tartare: The "chips" that came with this was super thin and crispy and made tasting the steak much more delightful. The smoked salmon roe added nicely to the dish. * Smoked prosciutto: This was such a cluster of deliciousness. This pick was to die for. O.M.G. All the flavors and textures. The pineapple was inventive and added a sweet burst of flavor. Quite literally as well. The candied hazelnut a nice crunch. * Southern fried chicken parm: I've been eyeing this dish for awhile ever since seeing the menu. The chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Chicken choices are either a hit or miss, and this pick hit all the notes with bonus points for the portion. The pasta had a nice portion size too. The creamy collards and radiatore actually felt pretty subtle mixed in and wasn't really that noticeable. Overall a great pick for its flavors, portion, and value. * 20 yolk tagliatelle: This pick was different and tasty, but it didn't give wow'ing vibes. If you're looking for something on the lighter side and has more of a vegetarian-feel, then this would be the dish for you. The mushrooms were tasty, and I enjoyed each bite. The Tuscan kale kimchi was definitely different with a slight sour undertone. But there wasn't a whole lot of popping flavors. Everything was a little subdued. The flavors a hint of this and that. If you arrive early, they have a large sofa off in the back space area that guests can wait and order pre-dinner drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Overall the vibe of this place was hipster with its own charm. And the waiters/waitresses were super friendly!
Made this reservation almost three weeks in advance because one week was not enough. The steak tartare was great. It was not my very favorite beef tartare, that honor still goes to Staplehouse but it was quality meat. The chips that came with it were standard and the salmon roe didn't add that much to the dish. Prosciutto and pineapple excellent. You could tell the meat and pineapple was quality. I didn't expect the appetizers to be so well crafted so I was pleasantly surprised. 20 Yolk Tagliatelle was good. It's a elevated veggie pasta with mushrooms and kale kimchi. It had a sour note to it probably from the kimchi. I love kimchi though. The chicken parm was great. It was probably the best chicken parmesean I've had in a while. The meat was juicy and the crunch was perfect. Service was amazing with friendly and attentive waitress. Would I come here again? Probably. It's in a great location relatively close to Krog Street Market. It's one of the best pastas I've had in Atlanta right next to White Bull and No 246 in Decatur.
It's hard to get a reservation here on a weekend night, but we got one a few weeks in advance! The restaurant is easy to get to (Beltline, Marta, etc). The ambiance inside is good - good music and vibey. The cocktails were SO good. I got the swan song, and it was incredible. My husband got a Negroni and thought it was great as well. 10/10 on drinks. Service was also a 10/10 - friendly, attentive, but not over the top. The food was good. We got the following: Smoked fromage bruschetta Tuna crudo Black spaghetti Sorpresine with lump crab Basque cheesecake I would say the food was SOLID. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because some of the dishes were less refined than I expected. For example, the flavors in the tuna crudo seemed too intense and overblown, which really took away from the taste of the tuna. Crudo is typically more delicate than that. Same with the sorpresine - the crab was overtaken by the flavors. I still think the food was super good, but for the price I would've expected more refined flavors. I would definitely come back and try other things though! There were tons of things on the menu that looked/sounded really good.
It was a cold snowy Saturday so I thought I could get in last minute and I did! I even got there early enough to nab the tasting menu! This is my new favorite restaurant in Atlanta. The food was amazing, and unfortunately I did not take a pic of the menu. Every course was full of perfectly balanced fresh ingredients. The staff were super friendly. It was obvious everyone loved working here. I will be taking all guests here...if I can get a table.
BoccaLupo was a great experience! The food and drinks were amazing, and the service was excellent. The ambiance was interesting, we were sat near the front of the restaurant and unfortunately the tables are close together so if someone next to you is loud it is unavoidable. Also, they charge if you cancel or miss your reservation. Other than that, the dishes we had were delicious, I'd recommend the beef tortelli it was plated super cute!
First time here, and like others have said, you will need to have a reservation. However, the service and food were great, and I highly recommend anyone to try! We ended up ordering 3 pastas, the bolognese, baked pasta with lamb, and the black spaghetti. For the appetizer, we ordered the cannoli with prosciutto and cheese with smoked blueberry, and for dessert we got the skillet oatmeal cookie! To start with, they give you a drink menu (which doesn't make sense on purpose), and the waiter will come and explain each drink to you in detail. The first drink we got was a mild blended piña colada almost, it had a touch of milk, fruitiness, and was very creamy! We also ended up getting a cocktail which was alright by itself, but definitely ended up pairing well with the pasta and cutting through the flavor! The appetizer came first, and I really enjoyed the lightness of this appetizer! The cannoli was like a light, hollow baked bread, and the inside had a layer of cheese. It was wrapped in prosciutto that was almost like butter, and the smoked blueberries and sauce helped add some tartness to the dish. It was surprisingly light and very good! The first pasta we tried was the bolognese which was delicious! The noodles were wide and freshly made, tender but still with bite. It was very flavorful and very good! The same can be said about the baked pasta with lamb, which had a good amount of vegetables on it. Surprisingly, the vegetables may have been my favorite part, as they were sweet and crunchy to contrast with the pasta. The pasta itself also had the same great texture as the bolognese and the lamb was not gamey at all, making for a nice and cozy dish. Last was the black spaghetti, which came with ground sausage and shrimp. The seafood was fresh and light, and the green onions helped balance the garlic and stronger flavors. There was also a little bit of spiciness to it. While good, I think we enjoyed the first two pastas more. Lastly came the dessert, which was delicious! The oatmeal cookie had other mixed grains and nuts which gave a very nice texture to the cookie, and it came with ice cream! While a little bit sweet, there was some huckleberry and other berries to balance it out with a touch of tartness. Service is out of this world, our waitress had perfect timing and every dish came out also at the exact time, with enough spacing in between but not too long. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly, I had a wonderful time eating here! Ambiance is nice, dimmer lighting for a more intimate setting in the back of the restaurant, with more space in the front and more people for a more casual feel. Surprisingly, we felt very light even after eating so much pasta. Highly recommend coming and trying at least once!
Please book a reservation. The website will tell you to book a reservation. Reviews will tell you to book a reservation. I am telling you to book a reservation. I took their advice and booked a reservation. Once I arrived, they told me that they were no longer taking walk-ins. They were happy to know that I had a reservation and gave me a seat. I would not have been able to experience this venue if I did not book a reservation. This place my have a private parking lot around the back and there were plenty of free street parking. No issues parking. This venue makes sure not to over-burden their kitchen and staff. There will be open tables but they will only seat you at your reservation time. I like this. This is how a venue performs quality control. You have a much better experience when you have not been waiting on food for an hour or the kitchen has to rush. They do have outside tables for your wait. You can order a couple of drinks as you wait as well. First visit, I ordered the black spaghetti with rock shrimp, spicy sausage, and scallions. The black spaghetti does not change the taste of the spaghetti at all but it makes the dish looks cool. This dish has an amazing taste. The flavors explode in your mouth. Second visit, I ordered the 20 Yolk vegetarian pasta. The veggies really make this pasta stand out. Pasta tasted extremely fresh. I wanted to try their desserts. First visit, I ordered the Oatmeal and Cherry skillet cookie with cherry gelato and candied pistachios. This is easily the best sweet treat I have had all year. Second visit, I ordered the milk chocolate pinna cotta. The chocolate is very light and fluffy. Tastes like a cream. I cannot speak more highly of this place. You have to try this place.
I have always heard the best things about BoccaLupo so I was ecstatic to come try it for myself. The drink menu makes no sense but I promise they will explain it to you and go off of that! I got what are you the police and that is always on the menu so I was lucky. The drink was sweet and savory and well balanced -- for a strong drink it was so delicious and I would happily go back.
I come to Atlanta for work once and year so I keep a running list of restaurants that I want to try. BoccaLupo has been on my list for several years and I finally pulled the trigger and went. We had a reservation for 4 people on Wednesday evening at 6:45. Do note that they will not seat you until your entire party arrives, no exceptions. Our table was in the back on what seemed to be a heated enclosed patio area. Our waiter brought us the menus as walked us through the cocktail list. If there was one thing I didn't enjoy about our dining experience it was the cocktail menu. There are punny names with inside jokes and no description about what the cocktails basically at all. You have to ask your server for descriptions of each drink which does tend to get tedious if you order several rounds. That being said, our waiter was delightful and went through the descriptions as many times as needed as well as making good suggestions on both cocktails and food items. Favorite cocktails of the night were the "What Are You, the Police?" and "Doom Scrolling" For dinner we ordered entirely too much food to share. We had the ceviche, tuna crudo, tricolore salad, mushroom tagliatelle, pappardelle bolognese, goat cheese ravioli, black spaghetti, beef cheek ravioli and mafaldine cacio e Pepe. Did we over do it? Sure, but there were just so many items that we wanted to try! Everyone at the table had a different favorite dish but we really loved all of them. The food here is OUTSTANDING. My personal favorites were the salad, beef cheek ravioli and mushroom tagliatelle. For dessert we ordered the skillet cookie and the Basque cheese cake. They were both a hit but the skillet cookie was sensational. It's going to be really hard for me to choose a new restaurant next time that I come to town instead of coming back here every time. The menu changes frequently so I probably wouldn't be able to order something that we loved this time, but I know there would be new favorites. If this was in my city I would be coming here all of the time.
Second time coming within the past month and both times were phenomenal. Both times were a party of 4 and everything we ordered has been good. The black spaghetti, bolognese, and the tasting special was great and well portioned. The best thing on the menu surprisingly is the tuna and crispy rice appetizer. Meatballs are a must order also. From a drink perspective. The clarified punch was one that stood out to us. I ordered a dirty martini last time and it was amazing also. The vibes is like a hipster type of restaurant in the best way. Not too fancy but just right for the area. Make reservations early and go...A LOT!
I'll start off that I am very biased about this place as it's a neighborhood staple and rightfully so. Very easy to walk and park to. You will need a reservation and give yourself time to get one. The first thing you notice when you step in is the relaxing and dark vibes with the friendliest staff in any restaurant in Atlanta. They are more knowledgeable than any server you will come across for the menu that night. There is always a tasting menu, I did not participate last night, but always worth hearing about and when Inhave had it in the past it does not disappoint. We had multiple drinks and each one is better than the next. If you don't normally drink make an exception. For appetizers we had a light and refreshing mussel dish on top of cucumbers and potato's. As well as my favorite the Tuna and Rice appetizer. I could have that as a meal and be happy. The menu changes often, but I had the one staple, Black Spaghetti. Always delish and the perfect cumulative spice. There was also the crab surprasese. So sweet and delish. Dessert was a chocolate and cinnamon puff. So light and the perfect finisher to the dinner. This is a neighborhood spot, but it's worth coming from far away to try it.
After hearing all the rave about BoccaLupo, I grabbed a reservation far in advance for a Wednesday night dinner. There is free street parking around the restaurant but it can be tricky to find. We were seated right on time. Service afterwards was incredibly lackluster. When we were seated the host said the chef would come by to talk us through the tasting menu. About 5 mins later another server finally came to fill our waters and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. We never got the run down of the tasting menu that we were interested in. We had never been here before and expected just more from service here. I have truly gotten better service from Chili's. We both ordered the what are you, the police? cocktail. Looking at the cocktail menu, descriptions are pretty minimal so I had to ask our server to give a walkthrough of the menu as he not once even thought it would be helpful? My friend did have a tree nut allergy and the server was attentive of that asked if cross-contamination was okay or not (it wasn't). This was helpful at least. The cocktail was so delicious and I would come back to get this cocktail and try other drinks. We ended up ordering 3 pastas to share: beef cheek tortelli, goat cheese ravioli, and black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage. All the food came out hot and steamy. We did get all pastas to share. The beef cheek tortelli was INCREDIBLY salty. There is absolutely no way anyone tasted this food prior to plating. Absolutely could not recommend. The only good component was the beef cheek inside the tortelli but the saltiness of the remaining plate killed this. The goat cheese ravioli was good and enjoyed the peach on top with cabbage. Nothing super amazing and wowing. The black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage was my favorite and I say favorite lightly. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, but I found this dish to lack a touch of salt. It felt like this dish was just missing -something- but found it to be okay. All tables had a little candle at their table and as the sun started to set, the host came by and REACHED ACROSS the table to grab the candle and light it. This was incredibly rude and she did not say anything or even a "excuse me". She could have easily walked between my friend and the next table to grab it without reaching in front of both of us. I would have preferred she leave it unlit as this really left a bad taste in my mouth. We were still picking at our plates when the server came by to start clearing the plate I still had in front of me with food in it... I asked him to leave it. Overall, I do not see myself coming back to BoccaLupo anytime soon and do not understand the hype. There are so many better Italian restaurants in the area that are cheaper, tastier, and have better service. The cocktails are good here, but the food and service leave a lot to be desired.
Visited this little spot while in Atlanta for a conference. Ended up sitting at the bar which is not usually my favorite, but it was fine since there were just two of us. My companion had the 20 yolk tagliatelle and you could taste the richness of every yolk! I had the house ramen and oh my gosh it was so delicious! I would come back here frequently if I lived in Atlanta. read more

This was one of the nicest experiences of my life. Best table in the house. They knew it was our Aniversary. We had an amazing waiter and six people touched our table. I visited this restaurant tonight after reading several articles that listed it as one of Atlanta's top spots to try. I hesitate to call it Italian; it's really an Italian-Asian fusion restaurant with several menu items like: "Bruschetta banh mi" and "BoccaLupo Ramen" that draw from both cuisines. Whatever the cultural inspiration; it's amazing. We started with the Buffalo Mozzarella, which was a chunk of the namesake topped with pesto and a variety of summer vegetables tossed around it, salad style. It was mild, light, refreshing and tasty. If ordering an appetizer again, I'd try the fried cauliflower. For my entree, I went with the famous "Black Spaghetti", which is house-made squid ink-dyed spaghetti tossed with spicy calabrese sausage, red shrimp and topped with a handful of scallions. I've never been a huge spaghetti fan, but this dish was amazing and it had a nice heat to it. The spicy calabrese and generous portion of chopped shrimp really added to the dish. I would definitely order this dish again. I was also really interested in the potato gnocchi with summer vegetables, oyster mushrooms and pecan pesto, but the black spaghetti won me over! Service was prompt and efficient, the food was unique and delicious and there were plenty of drink options! I will definitely return in future! read more

Delicious, covid-safe, and fantastic atmosphere. Our entire experience at BoccaLupo was perfect. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and provided great recommendations. We started with cocktails and the Root Baking Co bread app (not pictured because it was gone too quickly!) then ordered a bottle of wine upon our waitresses recommendation. Black spaghetti (satisfyingly spicy!) and chicken parm pasta followed. Would recommend to anyone wanting to celebrate something with a great meal and dining experience! read more

Sometimes, when life slows down for a second and I get a chance to reflect, I think about the last dish that I had here. It was the squid ink pasta, and it was perfect blend of spice, ocean, and noodles. I'm not even a huge fan of Italian food, but I'll sometimes wistfully sigh, wishing I could experience a dish like this in my hometown. The other dishes my tablemates ordered all looked great, and the shared appetizers were good but not memorable. The ambiance and service were great - I would definitely recommend it! read more

Stumbled upon this area after walking through a long Piedmont Park with a friend, so we were both naturally looking for a nice restaurant to eat at. This place is small, and can definitely get a bit busy during dinner time, but the waiting time was worth it. The woman serving us was so kind to share her recommendations on the menu as well as explain each of the items on the menu. I ordered the Black Spaghetti with Calabrese Sausage, and the pasta was perfectly cooked al dente, and the sausage added a pleasant but not overwhelming kick to the dish. Dishes are roughly $20-25 for a pasta dish and ~$15 for antipasti on their menu, and there also aren't a lot of choices. But considering how delicious my meal was, I would say that the quality stands out for each of their menu items. read more

Bottom line up front: Give it a try for yourself, words alone can not describe the experience I had here. Great food, great drink and great dishes In a quaint hip part of town, the first glance is cute outside. As I enter the door I am greeted by two excellent hostess. Immediate sense of elegance in the atmosphere from the decor, patrons, and staff. The tables are full with no seats left but the bar so reservations in the future are a must. I ordered the signature "Floridian" which is a gin based cocktail. Absolutely delicious and not fruity which is good in my opinion. Perfect hint of bitterness in each sip. For the first dish as my antipasti, I chose the octopus per recommendation and it was absolutely a hit to my palate, the octopus was perfectly charred and moist not dry which is common. I enjoyed the rich flavor of sauce it came with as well. For my main course I chose the black pasta which I absolutely was floored by, the noodles cooked to perfection, the sauce was distributed evenly and the shrimp was juicy. The added scallions gave it an additional flavor boost with some texture. Highly recommended. I haven't had pasta this delectable in ages. Jilean was my server and she was fabulous. This meal at BoccaLupa deserves 5 STARS!! Delicious from start to finish.. a meal that is unforgettable! This Italian restaurant is a Must Try here in Atlanta. Great for date night or a night out with friends. Word has gotten out about BoccaLupo so make sure you make reservations a few weeks out! This restaurant is more on the smaller, cozy, intimate side. Slow service and food. Pricey and Forgettable Food. Nice environment/ambiance. Wouldn't bother coming back for the food. I heard a loooot of good things about this place and decided to check it out. This place is popular. Get reservations if you can. The decor/ambiance is nice - totally a good date spot. However for the money you spend, I think you can probably find tastier options. Also getting from your appetizer to main will take a while - like 20 minutes. My server told me that they pace/time out our courses. But the way, I and other customers were waiting, I doubt that. They are probably just slow. I had three dishes. The first one was Octopus & mortadella spiedino. Pretty much octopus on a skewer. I thought this was cooked really well - the octopus was very tender. This dish was tasty. The only complaint was that the octopus was salted way too much. This was probably the best thing I ate from there. The second was the black spaghetti. The most popular dish on the menu. If I were you, I'd skip it. Personally, I thought the dish/flavors came out muddled. There's too much going on in a bad way. Two flavors really dominate the dish: spice and a green vegetable that I assume is scallions (it was too dark to see). The last thing I got was the Chocolate mezzacotta. Definitely a great Italian restaurant with a little twist. Bocca Lupo is like your Italian grandmother, except she's 24 and hot. The dishes and pasta were classic, but the dishes were fresh and innovative. I ordered the Yolk Tagliatelle with wild mushrooms and kimchi and it was delicious. The pasta is made in house so it's fresh and supple. The sauce was light and refreshing and the kimchi gave it a nice kick. A wonderful palate of flavors and textures. The atmosphere is rustic in a sense. The restaurant itself seems to be an old fire station or something of that sort. They have since converted the garage to an "outdoor" sitting area. The place feels classy, yet inviting and inclusive. The dress code is casual but most people I noticed were in a business casual. The age range here seemed to be 25+. My friend and I are 20 and we felt a tad out of place. My only gripe is that it was just a tad too dark. I could barely read the menu without using my phone as a flashlight. Service was quite fast for the restaurant being just about full. Almost all of the tables were full on a Wednesday night, yet I still received my food in a timely manner. Third time visiting this restaurant and had very high expectation. However, food was extremely unnecessarily salty, to the point I couldn't eat it. We ordered Tuna Crudo for the appetizer and had to request the waiter to take it back because it was so so so so so salty I couldn't even eat it. FYI not me being picky because I usually use tons of soy sauce and salt cooking as well. Of course for the main I got the black spaghetti and Rest In Peace my tongue and my throat because they were destroyed by the salt. I was drinking water the entire night afterwards in pain. I felt bad and didn't ask for another serve of the black spaghetti but it was just sad. The recipe is still insane but the unnecessary amount of salt is a little depressing. Will give this restaurant another try but please don't make food this salty. The macroni was the highlight of the night, very impressive. Thanks. read more
"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens..." - the Sound of Music This place is truly one of my favorite things. Bocca Lupo is the TRUTH! I don't give out 5 stars that often, but this place right here consistently has great food, drinks, and service. Hands down my fave Italian place in town. Ambience: This is a funky, intimate space - dim lighting, small tables that encourage conversation, a couple booths, a L shaped bar and a great covered outdoor patio. This is a great place to take bae, future bae, or "just met you and I want to get to know you better" bae :) Food: I've never had a bad meal here. Seriously. Some of my faves are the black spaghetti and surprisingly the southern chicken parm. While it seems innocuous, that dish takes you places. This night, me and the lady had some appetizers and we split the risotto of the day and the chef's tasting menu (4 course dinnner). Some of the highlights: Octopus: OMG. So flavorful! Peppery taste, skewers in pieces that melt in your mouth. I'm not sure that I've had octopus this tender and tasty before. Veal: I know there's some strong feelings and controversy around eating veal, but man this was good! Super tender and packed with flavor! The veal sat on top of smoky mashed potatoes and was accompanied by some smoky mushroom that tasted like heaven. Risotto: who ever heard of gumbo risotto? Never would have thought of it, but it was awesome. Their risottos are always good, by this one had oysters, shrimp, and a hearty roux that brought you to NOLA. Verdict: come here and the come back for more... and more... and more. This food might make you fall in love! read more

This spot is hidden away on a corner of Edgewood and easily missed (at least it was by me the half a dozen times I've driven down this road). But BoccaLupo is a well-known Atlanta staple, and if the challenge to get a reservation during peak dinner hours (7-9pm) is any indication, certainly not a well-kept secret! I'm just so glad I had the chance to have this incredible fine dining experience. Atlanta has no shortage of great Italian restaurants, and this one is notable for the fact that they use such fresh, locally sourced ingredients. I actually can't even remember word-for-word the names of the dishes we had because they were using ingredients I'd never heard of before! The website menu isn't up to date currently because their seasonal items change so frequently, so the risotto we ate tonight had a specific kind of rare mushroom that I'd never heard of before--I wish I could remember the name! Nevertheless, everything here was INCREDIBLE. Truly a foodie experience worth having. Try to make a reservation in advance, or else you'll be eating either a very early or very late dinner! Parking is a breeze thanks to the gravel parking lot in the back, thank god. They have a nice patio too, but I believe it's first come first serve because the online reservation system is for dining room only. I was really pleased by everything we had tonight; the 20 yolk tagliatelle is one of their most popular dishes and had a distinctly lemony flavor, whereas the flavors of the risotto were more balanced. I was very pleasantly suprised how hip and trendy this place was when I showed up. For some reason on Yelp I got the impression this place was a little more stuffy and intimate, and while its definitely a dimly lit, nice place, its very lively and modern, with its colorfully painted outside and bright open patio hanging with greenery. I grabbed the last stool at the bar around 8pm on a Wednesday night. Not too long after I sat multiple spots opened up so it wouldn't be too hard to get seating with a small wait. The bartenders were friendly and provided me with their favorites from the menu. They have a nice cocktail menu but seem to be more well known for their wine selections. I started with a beautiful, picture worthy cocktail that was light, frothy, and delicious. I had come with my mind made up about getting the 20 yolk pasta based on reviews but the server really expressed that her favorite was the chicken liver ravioli so I ended up going with that. It was a beautifully served dish with so many different colors and elements and shapes to the dish. And it was a nice serving too. Sometimes I get worried with ravioli that there will be like 3 on the plate but this was a healthy portion. And at $17-19 for all their main entrees, this place is extremely reasonably priced. The inside of the chicken liver raviolis were so smooth, salty and delicious and the pasta was perfectly chewy. I almost wish the dish was a little simpler to highlight this part of it, because the raviolis themselves were soo good. There was a ton going on with the rest of the ingredients. The beans provided an interesting texture, almost a bit gritty and thick accompanied with the smooth chicken liver. The lettuce provided a very nice crunch and balance to the decadence. Some of the greens added a bitter bite and raw flavors from the greens, and then there was a sweetness as well. I almost found myself eating around some of the toppings to just taste the raviolis. Overall, the dish was very good, but a lot going on. For dessert, I got the chocolate eclair which was good but a little one-note. I would definitely come back here again to try more of the menu! read more
So when my Italian friend who's entrenched in his culinary roots reverberated my claim that, "BoccaLupo has the best pasta in Atlanta," I knew that my intuition was right about this quaint little Inman Park restaurant. On my first visit, I was blown away by the octopus and black spaghetti, but I thought that I might've just been a little giddy. However, I visited BoccaLupo last night and fell in love all over again. Our server, Tim, was very relaxed, but he was also helpful at the same time. He went over the night's specials and tasting menus, and he expressed his thoughts about items when we asked for his opinion. Since the two of us who had visited before were dying to have a second taste of our first impressions, we opted to order a la carte as opposed to the $65 chef's tasting. Our first course entailed roman fried cauliflower, octopus & mortadella, and foie gras with ravioli. Each of these was fantastic, but the fried cauliflower was the thing that I thought of throughout the meal. Fun fact, the chef, Bruce, told us they make the mortdella in house, so give it a try! Next, we sampled the black spaghetti with baby shrimp, chicken liver ravioli, and the 20 yolk tagliatelle. The black spaghetti is a must if you haven't had it, but I was really impressed with the chicken liver ravioli. Honestly, I could eat the chicken liver ravioli with a little bit of salt and pepper and be happy. The 20 yolk tagliatelle is for those who don't like bold flavors, and it was a little bit forgettable. The third course came out with the daily risotto with duck, the bucatini, and the pappardelle bolognese. The headliner was definitely bolognese. Every time I go to an Italian restaurant, I order the bolognese because it's sort of a right of passage. If the bolognese is good, I'll return; if not, it's scratched off in my book. Clearly, I came back, and I'm still enamored with the pappardelle bolognese. Unfortunately, I don't think our server remembered that we order the southern fried chicken parmesan, so we weren't able to try that. For dessert, we had the gelato with a chocolate cookie, the brown butter cake, and the chocolate mezzacotta. Get the chocolate mezzacotta. It's topped with marscapone and peanut brittle, and it's sooo yummy. The oozy chocolate paired really well with the gelato we had from one of the other desserts. And one last thing, the playlist never disappointed me once. It was a mix of 80's skating rink music, 90's r&b, and even Childish Gambino's Redbone. So, stay woke, and give BoccaLupo a try. read more

Omg this place was amazing! Some of the best flavors I've had in a while. The menu is very unique and they incorporate many different flavors together in ways that give the dishes a lot of personality. The drinks were very tasty. Our server, Connor, gave us great recommendations on those. The meatballs were good as well, the homemade ricotta with the marinara sauce was great. For the prices on the menu the food is a great bang for your buck. I will definitely be back! read more

Boccalupo is quickly becoming my favorite restaurant in Atlanta. The small neighborhood-restaurant vibe and incredible food just a few blocks from KSM is unbeatable. I've been to Boccalupo three times now, and each time, our server has been better than the last. If I ran a restaurant, I would hire any of the waitstaff here on the spot. My last time, the waiter made introductions and remembered our names and took time to explain the special tasting menu of the night multiple times, helping me decide on dishes. Both the drink and the food menus change pretty frequently, so I've never ordered the exact same thing here. The latest visit, I opted for a rye cocktail that set the meal off to a great start. The waiter on my most recent visit sold me on the tasting menu (inspired somewhat by the chef's recent New Orleans trip). It was (to the best of my memory): - a shrimp & rice arancino resting atop a bowl of the rest of a classic etoufée - squid ink fettucine with thin pieces of veal steak and some classic southern veggies in a lemon/marsala sauce - Italian fried chicken with more veggies in a savory sauce - an Apple frangipane tart with vanilla gelato The highlight was the fried chicken, but every single plate tasted great and was creative and artfully-presented. Every single time, though, I make sure to get the seasonal variation on panna cotta. Theirs is unrivaled, the best I've found to date. The funny thing about this place is that the menu can seem confusing because of the way it's worded but at the end of the day, it's pasta. Although it was on the pricey side, I do appreciate freshly made pasta and this hit the spot in that respect. We had the bruschetta to start and it was delicious. For dinner we had the tagliatelle bolognese, black spaghetti, and bucatini (listed wth some fancy descriptions in the menu but that's what it was). For dessert, we had some chocolate gelato with some cookies that I didn't care for. Overall, good experience and very fresh pasta. read more
Chicken Parm you taste so good. BoccaLupo is a chain but a damn good one. This location is top notch and I can't wait to bring friends and family here. ATMOSPHERE People can come here casual or classy, but the establishment itself tries to lean towards a classier experience, it's got a great inside with a nice patio, which is where we sat. FOOD The absolute best Chicken Parmesan I've ever had. Hands down. I wanted another one once I was done with mine. The bolognese noodles were good, and had a rich sauce. There was this cauliflower appetizer that was just OK, and the breadsticks at the table are interesting but not my cup of tea. SERVICE I can't necessarily remember, but the service was decent, nothing out of the park, nothing poor. We didn't need much help on the menu, but some people like their server to spice things up with recommendations, but we did not receive that. BOTTOM LINE Can't wait to go back, I dream of that Chicken Parm. Moderately priced. read more
I travel a good bit and always look for a good squid ink pasta and I Love love love the black spaghetti from this place. My fav in the USA!! If black spaghetti isn't for you, I have eaten basically all the items on the menu and all are as delicious! They have a great wine and cocktail menu as well. Very limited seatings though so make your reservation. We usually just casually walk in, grab a drink, and wait for a seat at the bar. They have a nice outdoor waiting area to enjoy your drink while you wait. Bar staff is very friendly and they'll go out and grab you when a seat is ready. read more
Have dined here a few times. My favorite pasta is the black spaghetti and the Occhi di Lupo. Personally I think the 20 yolk tagliatelle is kinda bland. Recommend doing the pasta tasting, pretty sure the whole table does NOT have to participate. Can't believe it took us so long to try this place! We made our reservations a few days in advance and had looked at the menu online and decided we wanted the black spaghetti and the bucatini. When we arrived, our waiter immediately told us about the tasting menu ($62/pp) with wine pairings ($25/pp) and it sounded WONDERFUL. Oh and it was. Course 1: Fried cod on polenta with basil and sweet potato crisp. Fried cod melted in your mouth. Course 2: Black pepper pasta with duck confit, arugula, and turnips. I've never had black pepper pasta before but it was absolutely delicious. I could eat a whole plate of this alone. Course 3: Rib eye with cannelloni. Typically served medium rare. I asked for it to be cooked medium and they happily fulfilled my request! Course 4: Pine nut tart with honey ginger gelato. Wine pairing was actually a glass of port. I finished my tart and then realized I didn't take a picture.. Oops. Guess I'll have to go back ;) The wine pairings were supposed to be "half glasses" but they were very generous with their pours. We definitely splurged on this meal and it was well worth it for the tasting menu because it forced us to try things that we don't always order. Another excellent Chef's tasting menu for dinner with an impressive third course of dirty rice, rabbit sausage, wagyu and squab! Our server was fun and his knowledge of the wine pairing was also extremely interesting I felt like I was taking a wine course. The all-around service is impeccable and I enjoy the date night atmosphere and the music. Our first course with sheep pasta and lump crab was excellent.our second course with the red snapper was even better than the first! The after dinner coffee was so good and just the right cord of smoky and sweet. My only suggestion is to definitely make reservations otherwise you'll be waiting for a while for walk in seats. read more
After a long Saturday of running errands, my wife and I walked out of target at 5:15pm and we both realized how hungry we were. We instantly started brainstorming where we could get a bite to eat and she threw out pasta and I responded with Boccalupo a little half jokingly since the last time we tried to go on a Saturday sans reservation the hostess pretty much said better luck next time (in a very nice way I might add). But this time would be different. The restaurant didn't open til 5:30 and we thought we'd have a good shot at getting seats at the bar if we went right as the place opened. Lo and behold, we were the first ones there. We took our place at the bar and we're greeted by the bartender who explained the specials and the tasting menu. He suggested we order one tasting menu and whatever caught our eye from the regular menu. That of course meant my wife was getting the 20 yolk tagliatelle and we added the octopus as a first course. First course: southern grits arancini and the aforementioned octopus. The octopus stole the show here. Wonderfully charred on the outside but still super super tender. Amazing. The arancini was very creamy yet airy on the inside and also had great flavor and crunch on the outside. Second course: orrechetti with grilled shrimp and sausage Easily my second favorite dish of the night. The shrimp tasted like it was just plucked from the sea. The pasta had a nice bite to it and the sauce really rounded everything out. Very well balanced with the sweetness of the tomato, richness from the sausage, and then bitterness of the greens to cut through all of that. Great dish. Third course: 20 yolk tagliatelle and also a wagyu tri-tip with foie grois and fig. With 20 yolks you'd expect the pasta to be super rich and dense and taste very eggy. But it was light and the sauce it was in had a lot of bright notes. It was like the taste and texture were the opposite of what you would expect. Very good, wish I could have more. The steak and foie were very rich. The foie melts in your mouth and was perfectly paired with the fig to brighten the dish up. Dessert was an Asian pear upside down cake with ice cream. It was a decent dessert, not great, but a nice way to end the meal. Overall, a five star dinner we just kind of stumbled into. First time I've had a tasting menu at the bar while wearing flip flops and a baseball cap. read more
I've never been a huge fan of Italian food but this place changed my mind. The pastas aren't overly rich and heavy like a lot of (poorly made) Italian-American pastas that I've tried in the past. Parking wise, we did street parking though I think there's a private lot right behind the restaurant. We went on a Wednesday evening and the place was packed so I took that as a good sign. We had a 8:15pm reservation and had to wait ~30min or so to be seated. Normally this would be very annoying, but the waiters couldn't very well ask people who were chilling at their table after dinner to leave. So we stood around the bar area and grabbed drinks. The manager (I think) even came by at some point and apologized for the wait and gave us our round of drinks for free. Great service really goes a long way!!!!!! After being seated, they brought out these garlicky oniony breadsticks that were very delicious and light. We ordered the black spaghetti and the 20 yolk tagliatelle and both were SO GOOD. Great flavors, light but filling, and did I mention SOOO GOOD?? Also, the waiters were constantly refilling our glasses of water which was pretty cool. I definitely want to come back and try their other pastas. The only drawback is that they are pricey...but that just comes with the territory of great food I guess. Many thumbs up!! read more
I can't believe it took me so long to try this place out! The experience was wonderful! On a Friday evening in July, the interior seats had just filled, so we opted for the patio, under the fans. While it was warm, it wasn't unbearable, and it helped with the relaxed pace of the evening. We started with the fried cauliflower, which was amazing - crisp, flavorful bites with a nice tang from the lemon and herbs. The octopus was tasty, tender, and moist - not at all chewy. If I hadn't known, I never would've guessed that it was octopus. I chose the famous black spaghetti which was delicious - perfectly cooked pasta with spicy bits of sausage. I'd also considered the southern fried chicken parm and creamed collards, so I was delighted that one of my dining companions chose it and I got to try a bite. It was a highlight of the meal, with the acid of the tomato, the cream and slight bitterness of the collards, and pull of the melted cheese, and the perfect al dente tooth to the pasta. The lasagna was good, but as it was a white lasagna, a little drier than I would've preferred. The 20 yolk tagliatelle was good, but at that point, I'd already fallen in love with the spaghetti and southern fried chicken parm. For dessert we shared the zeppole and the fruit crumble/cobbler. The zeppole were light and fluffy with just enough crisp on the outside, perfectly bite-sized to feel like a treat, and not at all greasy. Fruit cobbler/crumble was solid - heavy on the fruit and light on the topping, just the way I love it. Service was great, particularly in keeping our drinks attended to, our water glasses full, and knowing the specials. read more

Yes, BoccaLupo takes reservations through Resy. Walk-ins are welcome but reservations are encouraged. Bar seating is first come, first served with no reservation necessary.

They don't have gluten free pasta, but several of their appetizers and other entrees are gluten free! They told us they are able to accommodate those with gluten allergies
Can you eat at the bar? I like to go out and eat on my own at times but not at a table.

If you get there earlier and put your name in the wait is normally 45-1:15 from my experience, which goes by quickly if you grab a drink from the bar!
Does boccalupo offer any nondairy alternatives for cheese?
Unfortunately not. However, we can omit cheese from certain dishes.
