On a mission to find chilaquiles, we set our objective for this spot. Felt like we were in Mexico City with the smell and the atmosphere. The lady greeted us warmly, recommended tamales and horchata, we ordered chilaquiles, one verde and one rojo, one pork tamale, two aqua fresca and settled in. Chips and salsa hit just right, chilaquiles were solid though the rojo was a bit on the saltier side, the star for me was the tamale. I would drive back here for those alone. Delicious Mexican food. I dropped by for an afternoon snack, which ended up being a meal because the menu looked so darned good! I ordered a horchata, a carnitas taco, an asada taco, and a lamb taco. Despite the small order, I was brought chips and salsa while I was waiting. The food came out quickly, so I didn't eat toooo many chips, just too many. ;) The tacos were excellent. I don't think the tortillas were house made, but they were still pan fried and generally held up to the fillings. There was a generous amount of meat in each taco. I visited Taqueria Mi Mexico on a Saturday afternoon with my husband. We decided to check out restaurants we did not know that were on the divey side over the Valentine's Day weekend. This place has Valentine's balloons all over the restaurant. We walked in and sat ourselves and grabbed menus. The menu has a ton of great options including Tex Mex and a lot of fish. I was ecstatic when I saw Lamb barbacoa on the menu. Always a favorite of mine. This did not disappoint and came with rice and refried beans and veggies including perfect avocado. My husband got the pork Quesadilla which I tried and thought tasted a bit too fatty. The restaurant is a bit of a hole in the wall which I like, I want good food, I don't need fancy. This is a specific review for their tacos they serve since I normally get take out as the the actual store I don't have too much to say, it's just looks like your average Mexican restaurant of on Armenia St, and it kinda seems so. As a man who comes from a Latin Family, these tacos really are the best I've tried in the area of Tampa, heck even all of Tampa Bay, that feel like they are the closest to being real tacos made in Mexico or Latin America. The meat in the pork carnitas and pastor tacos were too dry for my liking, the pastor was served with pineapple. They also have items items you don't normally see in "cleaned up" Mexican restaurants including cabeza (brain), lengua (tongue) and tripa (tripe) for the adventurous souls. While lacking in flashy fanfare, the food is very tasty. 4 Stars for Food. SERVICE: Very casual, polite and friendly. I came here today because my friend told me they have a mariachi band on Sundays and it was amazing and made us feel like we were in Mexico. The music really adds to the atmosphere of the place and is just a good time. It is definitely no frills and very very casual, so don't expect anything fancy and you won't be met with any disappointment. I ordered shrimp and steak tacos and they were really good, seasoned really well and the steak was cooked well. The service was really friendly and attentive. The guacamole is one of the best I've had in Tampa and so fresh. The tacos are only $2 each but the dinners are around $10+. The menu definitely had a lot more options than any other hole in the wall place I've been to. They also serve beer and margaritas. There is plenty of parking in front and also a parking lot in the back behind Noa Noa Mexican grocery store. It is definitely quite small so I can imagine it being crowded when it's busy because the tables are very close together. I ordered cabeza , lengua, and buche. I had to tell them to make me a new lengua taco because my tounge taco was crunchy . Anyone that knows about tacos knows lengua is supposed to be very soft. I felt like our food was from a day or two ago. The salsa was very plain . Not spicy at all. I drowned my tacos in salsa and nothing. Pura salsa de tomatillo . I was sorely disappointed in both the service and quality of food here. My co-workers and I stopped here for a quick bite. Both of our servers seemed uninterested in helping us and when we ordered our food we were asked, "Are you sure you want to order? It is going to take so long." What? Does that mean they didn't want us there? We only had 30 min left before getting back to work and so there was not an option to go elsewhere. When I went to the back, the bathrooms were located right next to a food prep station where a large pile of sliced steak was being cut. What? I tried not to think about it too much and was relieved to remember I didn't order steak. I definitely won't be back. The food was mediocre and the service was atrocious.
