This was so a cute small place for brunch. We went for a friends birthday with a party of 10. The music they played at first was like a strange techno sound but we asked if they could change to something a little more upbeat with words like pop r&b or something and they switched it over shortly after. They had a lot of bar type seating with the higher bar stools but we like seating like that. We had the bottomless mimosas for 18 bucks because one mimosa was eight dollars so might as well get bottomless right? For the mimosas they just brought a bucket with ice that had a carafe of orange juice and bottle of champagne (I can't remember the brand...but it was good and that's what counts!). It was pretty simple, once you were done they brought more! Our server Matt was on top of getting us another bottle of champagne. But now for the food. I had the chicken and waffles with the Nashville hot add on. It was amazing! It was so flavorful and the savory but sweet with an added kick of spice was perfect. I wanted to go back the next day just for that. My friend got one of the sandwiches I can't remember what kind but she like it. My other friend got the steak and eggs which they made wrong and took a little min to get out a new one but she said it was good. Overall great atmosphere and I loved the food. Stopped by for burger and beer week! I knew their grilled cheese was legendary but this burger-a highlight no doubt. The burger is a sexier older brother to the Big Mac with fresh ingredients and much better executed sauce flavors. I went to Bodega for the happy hour with half off wings. The restaurant has a nice layout with character from the wooden seats and tables. I got the North Mile High beer which was referred to as the "Champaign of Beers". It was an ok beer for the price. I don't think it deserves that title. The wings we got were buffalo and maple chipotle. The maple chipotle sauce was so good! The sweet and smoky flavor of the sauce complimented the wings. The buffalo was your traditional flavor. The loaded Tat'R bites were very good. They had a mashed potato inside which I loved. The bacon and cheese always make potatoes taste better. I definitely will be back for more beer and wings! Visited Bodega on a Wednesday evening for dinner and drinks. To our surprise, happy hour was still going on (it ends at 8) so that was a big win as most local HHs end at 6. The waitress was polite and quickly informed of us their special for the evening which was half price chicken wings (another win!) We ordered two different flavors of wings, the maple chipotle and buffalo. Both flavors were tasty, but the maple chipotle was extra tasty. I was a little skeptical of the maple chipotle combination, but the sauce was sweet and spicy simultaneously and that's how I like my wings. We also tried the loaded tater bites. I expected tater tots, but the bites were more like fried mash potato balls and were really good. The huge draft beer selection at HH prices was the icing on the cake. I will definitely be back to Bodega and next time I'm bringing more friends! read more

I REALLY like the vibes here and the happy hour prices are awesome, but overall I'm not sure it's worth the hype. We came in for dinner on $1 grilled cheese night. It was packed, but there were three window seats in a row that we were able to snag. It was seat-yourself, so I guess no one saw us come in, but we weren't greeted at all and no one ever came to take our order. I'm not sure if this is typical or not, but we eventually went to the bar to order. The bar tender was helpful and took our drink and meal orders, but he kept walking away in the middle of our sentences and seemed to be annoyed to be serving us. Overall, a weird experience. We were enjoying ourselves people-watching out the windows, and our food came out quickly. I ordered the grilled cheese with jalapeños and the tempura fried green beans. Honestly? I was underwhelmed. The grilled cheese, while I wasn't expecting anything amazing with a $1 price tag, was two pieces of white bread with barely melted cheese. Definitely disappointing because I could've easily made something better at home. The tempura fried green beans were an interesting appetizer that I was excited to try, but they ended up being difficult to eat and not really seasoned at all. Their only saving grace was the small cup of aioli. I might come back to Bodega on a different night, or if I was looking for something quick, but overall I wasn't really impressed. read more

I visited Bodega last Thursday for Happy Hour and left a bit disappointed. This was mostly because of their food and not due to their drinks. The beer selection is phenomenal, with 47 beers of tap, 1/2 priced between 4 and 8 pm Mondays through Fridays. Bodega's first class beer selection and full bar is the main reason to visit. However I felt the food selection, especially their happy hour specials, was lacking. The only food special that day was a 6-piece wing meal for $6. It's a great deal, since you get essentially 6 large chicken legs. Unfortunately, the flavor and the BBQ sauce didn't really penetrate into the meat. It's one of those dishes that would prolly taste better the next day, after the sauce has time to soak into the meat. My buddy also got the poutine for $8. It was just okay. The cheese curds were not right and the fries seemed a little overdone. The pulled pork was flavorful though. Being from Canada, i'm a little picky when it comes to poutine. He also got a cheeseburger, but told me flatly that he could have made a better burger. I'll definitely be back for drinks, but i'm not sure if I will bring hungry friends here, especially for happy hour. I think there are many other places with better food options. read more

No longer the cramped, dingy hipster hang out it once was - which means it is clean, polished, and roomy. No more scattered tables and chairs - tall tables with plenty of space. My guess? They got rid of all the people that came "to be at Bodega" by making it painfully obvious you weren't here as a patron. Yes, it's not as crowded, and not setup to make it easier for everyone to take over a table and then never leave. It's harder to just come and hang out - meaning Bodega actually draws paying customers! Oh, and the whole "lack of a beer choice" - yeah, they used to have a great national selection. Like every beer store. Now, they focus on Ohio brews - so they are a spot you can direct people to that want to try a range of what Columbus has to offer without sending them to every brewery directly. Remember people, it's not all about you. I haven't eaten there, because I was never a fan of the food the few times I had been there prior. Everyone loved the grilled cheese, because, well, if your fanbase goes crazy at the loss of dollar grilled cheese, I guess it says a lot about the clientele. They love their grilled cheese - so I guess I have to come back and try it once. So - the bartenderes are attentive, the place is roomy, the beer selection is Columbus strong. I like the new Bodega. Awesome happy hour deals! Half-off all drafts from 4-8 PM, including many, many local OH breweries, which is my preferred brew. They also have special deals each day - we happened to be there on Monday, which is $1 grilled cheese night! An unexpected bonus! Bodega was one of the few bars open in the Short North on a recent Monday, so I was excited to try out their HH (only there previously for brunch). I was impressed with their COVID precautions - temperature taking prior to entering, well-spaced tables, QR codes for menus, and all team members wearing masks. Definitely made me feel more comfortable. For my drink, I opted for the Platform Pink Martian - a local brew, and a great taste for the hot weather! It was a sour, which was so refreshing and had lovely tropical tones of guava and mangos. I appreciated our server's insight on which one to get - he made a great rec! He also provided me with a little sample of the other sour on the menu (Nocterra Tahitian), which was very kind. We both got grilled cheese, which were actually pretty substantial for only being $1! They were pretty standard, just your cheese and bread, but the bread was pretty hearty and large, so we got decently full off of them. Overall, Bodega had an awesome happy hour with great deals. While it wasn't our first choice for HH, I am so glad we got to check it out and honestly, I was so pleased with it. Always a big variety of beers to try and they always have drinks specials that change per day (also food). I love love going to Bodega on any night of the week. It is definitely much calmer during the week (Friday and Saturday get very busy), but I will say that the vibe is always fun. I have been many times and never been disappointed. Also, they have great happy hour deals (Tuesday $3 tacos and Wednesday half off wings)! The manager, Joey, allowed me to be assaulted and battered multiple times by the "DJ Security". However, any small woman whom walked to the exact same spot I stood was allowed to order and remain without confrontation. Bodega is more pleasant to drink or eat inside since its renovation. It was always too crowded with people there just to be there. The place still gets crowded like the rest of the bars for its great happy hour but you're actually able to find a seat. It still has an impressive beer menu with cool cocktails. The food is very underrated here so try some. I stopped here last weekend to avoid the horribly overpriced Comfest beer. If you're paying $6 to $7 it better be fucking good beer. The best of the local ones include Barley's Blood Thirst Wheat, Jackie O's Razz Wheat, Land Grant 1862, Mad Moon Unglued Caramel Apple, North High Wildcard, and Seventh Son American Strong. All these are about $6 to $7. Much better than shitty PBR. Be sure to come in Mondays for half off drafts and $3 wells. They also have great cocktails. Have a beermosa for brunch. The lemonades all are good. It also has the best Tom Collins. The veggie burger is the best thing on the menu. It's made with black beans and brown rice. Kind of expensive at $11 but try it once. Another highlight is the events. The Monday grilled cheese specials are popular and trivia night brings in a crowd so maybe avoid it then. I would say the best time for Bodega is when it's not crowded. Since the renovation it's much easier to move around inside. They have a fantastic Happy Hour that lasts until 8pm, which is perfect for those of us who can't get off work early enough to make the normal 6pm Happy Hours. I ordered the Barley's Blood Thirst Wheat beer, which is always delicious. A friend recommended that I also order their $1 grilled cheese (available during HH on Mondays), which turned out to be surprisingly tasty. While Bodega can get fairly crowded at times, I went a few months ago with a large group of friends and we were able to get a couple tables shortly after they opened without any issue. We decided to try this place for Sunday brunch after reading a good review. There was a young lady there that was so drunk she could not stay standing. After the 4th fall I got up and asked if she was okay, one of the guys she was with said they work there and just got off at 5 am so they stayed. It was noon at this time. I asked the bartender if she could do anything. She said it wasn't her problem. If there is someone so drunk they can't stand, I feel the staff should do something especially if it is one of your employees. None of the 3 drunks had masks on either which is currently a mandate on Columbus. Also our drinks were not refilled once. This is simply one of my favorite places in the short north, and probably the place I most often end up at for happy hour. At some points over the years, I estimate that I came here 4-5 times a week for happy hour! Happy Hour: On the topic of HH, Bodega (along with Forno) has the best happy hour in Columbus. First of all, it lasts until 8 pm which is absolutely incredible. You don't have to feel rushed trying to get a drink ordered by 6 pm, because at that point, you still have 2 more hours to enjoy yourself. The happy hour itself is 1/2 off all draft beers, and there are many many to choose from! If you are unsure, ask the bartender and they will be happy to recommend something. Personally, I always go for the Blood Thirst Wheat! I believe that there is also a special on Wine (maybe $2 off) and well drinks ($3 per drink), but I honestly always go for the beer! Along with the drink specials, there are some food specials. The most notable of these is Monday, when they do $1 grilled cheese. If you choose to partake, splurge and add bacon ($1 extra) on your sandwich - you won't regret it! Bar Food: I wouldn't recommend coming here for a meal; there are food options available, but there are better places to actually have dinner. However, if you are here and hungry, the parmesan fries are incredible and can hold you over if you need a snack! If you need a meal, the Big Mic Burger is actually quite good, but there are better burgers in the short north. Brunch: I absolutely love brunch here, mainly for the bottomless mimosas! For $17, you get entire bottles of champagne and carafes of orange juice served to your table. This means you get to make your mimosa as strong as you want, which for me means just enough orange juice to change the color of the drink! Honestly, there is no better option in the city to get mimosa drunk on a weekend. Forno also does bottomless, but theirs costs $20 and servers will start to push you out after 5 or so glasses. As far as food goes, I have been a big fan of the bagel and the omelette! The everything bagel with cream cheese is a great light meal, or you can choose to add salmon to it to make it a little more filling! Atmosphere: Bodega can get quite loud and busy inside, especially during happy hour. If you show up after 6:30 on a nice day, you will have a hard time finding a seat anywhere inside or outside. Speaking of the outside, Bodega has a small patio with roughly 10 stools and some benches to sit at. I estimate that it could accommodate up to 15-20 people comfortably. read more

This popped up just down the street, was busy but not packed, and seemed decent. We sat right down. And waited. And waited. And waited. They were clearly short-staffed; 2 servers for Sunday brunch? And they did a fine job, as well as they could, but service was slooooowwwww. Water took awhile. Drinks took awhile. (And don't make Sweetie wait for coffee, especially with a baby.) Our food took a normal amount of time; the check took awhile. They only serve brunch items during brunch time. Which is fine, but would have been nice to know before we were given so long to peruse the menu. And then... You know how some places you go in and there are 20 choices and you want 15 of them, so the problem is how to decide between so many great things? Here, I saw two things on the brunch menu that I kinda wanted. Like, kinda, not really, wanted. 2 out of 10, and not "oh yeah" just "well, I suppose." Harumph. I picked the Everything Bagel, which was the high point of our visit. Great bagel, good toppings and accompaniments (salmon, avocado, egg salad, etc.) Really good all in all. Sweetie got the crispy potato cake, which we both were interested in. And- nope. Nothing like a potato pancake, more of a mound of hash browns smashed down and cooked too long. She passed immediately, I tried to eat some and gave up, we declined a box. Her bacon and fruit cup were pretty good. It's a cool little spot, and maybe when it's not busy it's better, and there were items on the main menu that we would have liked. But, braving Short North parking for no return on our investment of time is a losing proposition, so we won't be back. read more

My friend loves Bodega so much that we always end up here at least a few times a month for their happy hour so it's turned to be one of my favorite bars in Columbus as well. Love their huge beer selection, love their happy hour, love their $1 grilled cheese on Mondays (but spend the extra few bucks for a cup of tomato bisque to dip in, it's worth it!) and their $10 fish and chips on Fridays... but I'll pass on their brunch next time. One day I deviated from my normal daily specials and tried their banh mi on the dinner menu which is also a hard pass for the future. Specifically for brunch, I had quote on quote "the best chicken and waffles you've ever had" so of course I had high expectations and they fell short. I gotta admit the churro waffle was light, unique, and reallly good but the chicken pieces are actually chicken strips so I've definitely had better. Also, I've seen this menu item on social media and mine had no strawberry slices neither the cayenne butter nor the fruit compote that was advertised on the menu??! One of my friends had the steak and eggs which ended up being 3/4's a bland "potato cake" and a cheap cut of chopped beef seasoned waay too much with cumin. Honestly, I'd give 2 stars for their brunch but I'm keeping my review 4 stars because otherwise I have a good time here when I come mostly for happy hour and continue to come back regularly for it! read more

I come here some Monday nights before heading down to the Shrunken Head for open mic night comedy. It can't be beat for value. $1 for a grilled cheese? Hell ya. Of course, my bill ends up being much larger because of course I have to get a couple drinks and fries with my grilled cheese. My order: - Grilled Cheese: Delicious. Bigger than you think. Simple. $1 dollar. Need I say more? - Fries: These are underwhelming, but I shouldn't complain because I believe they do have a loaded fry option with toppings. They're thicker than shoe string fries but barely. Drinks: Let's break this down - Pitcher of Moscow Mules: This barely had any liquor. I felt like I was drinking a ginger soda. You do feel like you get a lot in the pitchers, but mostly because the glasses they give you which are the water glasses. They're extremely small. So you might get 5-6 glasses from the pitcher but a "glass" is more like a giant shot glass. Probably won't get a pitcher again, there's not value compared to the individual drinks. - Rosé Sangria: This was awesome. Refreshing for the summer. This was on the strong side and surprisingly rocked my world after the lackluster Moscow Mule. Just be prepared, if you come on Monday night's, you're going to have to fight for a table. It clears out at about 9 pm, and you'll have no problem finding one. However, they also have a small patio out front which I can sometimes find seats at. I'm giving it 3 stars because it's kind of small and I get overwhelmed by the people. There's not a lot of space. It has a weird set up with the tables. Also, the menu doesn't overwhelm me with options. The beer list is awesome though. Also, the music is super random. Sometimes they plays alt-rock (that works) and then they switch to annoying EDM-Esque music and seem the crank up the volume. I don't really come here for the ambiance, it's confusing. read more

I was in the short north on a Saturday and was looking for lunch and came here. The place was seat yourself which was fine, but I did notice some tables had signs saying they had been sanitized when they clearly had not been. It looked like there was one server taking care of the place and he seemed spread pretty thin. My table ordered the prickly pear drink, tea time drink, wings, truffle fries, two tacos, and a burger. The prickly pear drink was very good, but they were out of the tea time and after letting us know the server left before my friend could order anything else and never came back before giving us the check. The wings were good but very expensive and the tacos were not very good at all. As far as food I can only recommend the fries and burger. The music was also very loud in this place, I understand it is a popular spot for drinks but it was still very early in the day and there were many people dining in. I probably wouldn't plan a trip back here, but stop by for drinks if I am in the area. read more

No matter where you live "2 blocks away" and you want the steak and eggs again, don't go during a parade. The bartenders sit and talk about how horrible it is to have the "white people from Easton" and the bartenders treat you like garbage if you don't appear to fit in to their style or look. Ordered food, had a drink, canceled, paid our 7 dollar tab, tipped 40 cash as a pleasant "F You" and left. When I think of Bodega I usually think of the early 90's version known for their panini sandwiches, soups, and salads. I had the chance to stop in for lunch during a nearby conference. The service was a little slow and kept us from getting back on-time but I believe it was because they were shorthanded. It wasn't too crowded. The beer selection here is one of my favorites in Columbus. Always something interesting on tap that I haven't tried, and their half-off drafts during happy hour is a great excuse to try them all. Now, the layout of this place is not my favorite. There are always way too many people for the amount of tables, so you gotta play that awkward "imma stare at your table until you leave" game. With that said, everything else about this place is A-OK with me. They have food specials throughout the week ($1 grilled cheese what's good??) so keep an eye out for that. And they have karaoke on the weekend I believe. I can't really speak too much on the food cause I've only had the fish and chips here (which were pretty good btw, fries were nice and crispy), but I would highly recommend this place solely for their beer selection.
